Band It About - Proudly Supporting Live Music

Seated behind the other musicians is the person who is driving the train, having the right person in that seat is far more important than your regular punter realises. So what makes a great drummer? The greats are great because of their hard work and tireless practice, but what drove them to pick up the sticks for the first time? It all comes down to a few key character traits, and there are some that all great drummers have in common.what skills and qualities do they share? I have always said that if your drummer isn’t great chances are that your band isn’t going to be that great either. Audio Reign's drummer Dieter Schoell is definitely high in my list of Great drummers here in Adelaide, South Australia and I would certainly be surprised if he wasn’t in your list too! What was it that drove this young boy from Whyalla to want to learn how to play such a physically demanding instrument? During my informal chat with Dieter, I discovered who inspired him to play, and how a young man's insistence and passion led to him eventually being the Engine Room for the Adelaide progressive metal band Audio Reign. We end the episode with Dieter and I having a bit of fun by playing 20 questions in 2 minutes, can you guess how many he manages to get through before the timer goes off? Music (intro and outro); 'Betrayal' by Audio Reign, please use this link to watch the video of 'Betrayal', this song was the first single released off of their self titled debut Album: 'Betrayal' Audio Reign (video) YouTube Don't forget to Like the video and subscribe to their channel! As a well-off middle-aged white guy, I often find myself at a loss. A little stuck as it relates to the racial tension in the world. In this week’s episode, I get to ask some awkward questions to an expert on the subject. Dante Williams is the Founder of CommUnity Frontline a non-profit who serves the black community and brings awareness to many of our racial issues. As a youth growing up in Fort Worth, Dante and his family lived all over the city.Because he was the son of a single teen mom, he and his family experienced many of the same hardships that others in our overlooked communities deal with today. Although his mother worked hard to provide and instill core values in her children, tough times came still. From the loss of a sister, at birth and witnessing the hit and run accident, that ultimately took the life of his younger brother. These and other events fueled his passion for ensuring that the community knows that there are men that are willing to enter into and help alleviate the things our communities suffer from.Listen in as Dante and I have an open and honest discussion about race, leadership, religion, and our varied views of Black Lives Matter.Note: Dante is a successful entrepreneur and the proud Owner of DIG Contracting DIG Contracting is a general contractor and owner representative specializing in commercial construction for over 15 years.Useful Links and Book Mentions:Manhood Restored by Eric MasonDIG ContractingCommUnity Frontline

It’s not uncommon to occasionally “vomit” our own bad mood onto others, but just how are you supposed to avoid this? Our moods are ever changing, but despite whatever mood we may be in we are in we are each responsible for how we choose to respond to our feelings. The T-Uncut co-hosts share their rules of engagement on how not to be an a**hole when dealing with a bad mood.   Learn tips on how to recognize patterns in what triggers you, how to be assertive without making a**hole moves, and how to be controlled when responding to the a**holes in your life. Summary Maybe you just got bad news, walked away from a heated argument, spent 3 hours in traffic. Maybe it doesn’t even feel like there’s a rhyme or reason as to why your mood feels like crap, but when it does show up, how well are you handling it? Nikki Young, Jolene Daly, and Alyssa Najera share their personal tips on how not be an asshole when you’re dealing with a bad mood. “I have to acknowledge, at times, I am the asshole. . .” Jolene Daly Examples of Asshole moves Getting crabby with a waitress or waiter in a restaurant When something’s not going right and you attribute to the person in front of you (AKA taking it out on someone else). Letting personal stuff coming our at work with your co-worker or in your customer service Let’s be honest. Most of us probably fall into either the (1) I’m typically the a**hole or (2) I’m typically the one dealing with a**holes. Our moods are ever changing, but despite whatever mood we may be in, we are each responsible for how we choose to respond to our feelings.   How not to be an A**hole  101 Practice self awareness and be aware of your triggers: What kind situations and/or personalities typically result in you feeling upset or annoyed Notice what other important people in your life would say about how you control your emotions Be open to listening to feedback “Today is about challenging yourself in noticing what patterns do you notice in what ticks you off and asking yourself how you usually respond to those patterns .. and if it’s something that works, Great! But if it’s something that’s not working and you’re kind of the asshole in the group, what do you want to do about it?” – Alyssa Najera “It’s okay to be angry. It’s Okay to be irritable. It’s okay to be off. IT’s okay to have that mood . . . but let’s just look at how we handle ourselves.” – Nikki Young Consider how your behaviors and emotional responses are impacting those around you and especially those who are important to you. Tips on ways to avoid being an asshole Remembering, “I have 100% control over my behaviors when someone else is communicating with me in a poor way. I don’t then in turn get to say, ‘well, I’m going to treat you look crap because you’re treating me like crap.’ ” – Jolene Daly You are the only one responsible for how you feel, choose how you’re going to respond. Don’t take other people’s behaviors personally. Remember to see the human being in front of you. When you mess up, be accountable for your behavior and APOLOGIZE. Take an adult time-out and communicate how long you need Use a form of Non-Violent Communication Step 1: State the observable fact. Step 2: State how I feel. Step 3. State what I need or reasonable request. If you have poor communication habits, break them and make a new habit by trying “over and over and over again.” Useful Links https://www.nonviolentcommunication.com/ Thanks for Listening! GSD stands for “Get Shit Done”. It’s one of my favorite aspects about my next guest. He recently ran over 400 5k’s in a row and lost 50 lbs. He’s a cyclist, real estate investor, aircraft mechanic, prior military, race car builder and overall community builder! Eric Daniels has reinvented himself before my very eyes. I’ve become great friends with him in the past few years and even spent a week with him hiking almost 100 miles on the Appalachian Trail last summer. He started his career in FW as an engineer at Lockheed Martin leading a team of other engineers in designing the leading edge of the F-35. One of the most hi-tech jets in the world. But then He found himself at a crossroads in his life and decided to set aside the scientific calculator and join the crazy world of Real Estate. In just a few short years he has figured out how to become an elite level realtor and still be a great dad and husband. Eric has an incredible mind and I was able to uncover what makes him tick. In this episode, we look at 3 podcasts I recommend for improving your mental health. Join Tiny Leaps Plus: http://tinyleapsplus.com Part 1: The Problem There are currently over 1 million podcasts out there for you to choose from with over 30 million episodes available. At least those numbers are from April so you can bet there are even more now. So what are we to do?? This week I want to shine a spotlight on podcasts that I think are invaluable when it comes to our mental health. So without further delay let's get into the list. Part 2: Digging Deeper The first show I want to highlight is one you might already be familiar with. It's called Therapy for Black Girls. Now I've got a bit of a confession to make *deep breath* and I'm not sure how to say this so I'm just going to say it....I am not a black girl... I know I know, shocking news. But I've never given this show a chance specifically because of that. I thought "I'm glad this resource exists for black girls and women but based on the name I probably won't get much from it". Girl was I wrong and I'm happy I was. Therapy for Black Girls is hosted by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford who is an actual licensed Psychologist and the podcast covers a number of topics that people of all races genders and ages should be exploring. A recent episode I listened to was on the importance of self-compassion. Dr. Joy covers a lot of other important topics like embracing yourr queer identity, whether or not relationships HAVE to be hard work, Collective Grief, and Loneliness. While the podcast does live up to it's name by providing many excellent episodes specifically targeted to the struggles that are unique to Black women here in the United States, there is plenty to walk away with regardless of who you are or where you are at in your own life. The second podcast I want to recommend is Tori Dealing With...Hosted by Tori Deal who made a name for herself on the reality show The Challenge the podcast shares first hand perspectives on various challenges and issues that every day people face each day. Similar to what I try and do here on Tiny Leaps, Big Changes. Tori talks about dealing with topics like anxiety, change, love, failure, forgiveness, cannibis and really anything else you might be thinking about on a day to day basis. In each episode she shares a story that helped guide her views on the subject, is crystal clear that she is just sharing her own experience rather than trying to push something on you, There is a ton of value in this podcast that you'll be missing out on if you choose to avoid it. Part 3: The Solution So these are the two podcasts I'd recommend looking into for mental health topics. I'd love to hear from you, what podcasts are you listening to that have helped your mental health? In this episode, we take a look at one simple habit you can build that can help you set up your day for success. Join Tiny Leaps Plus: http://tinyleapsplus.com Part 1: Presenting the Problem One thing we've always known is that starting our days off right can be the difference between feeling successful and productive or feeling like the day got away from you. But how exactly do you go about starting your day off right? The common answer here is to develop a morning routine but morning routines can often be hard to keep up, long, and difficult to fit into our lives. So I started asking myself....if I could only do one thing in the morning to get my day started what would it be? What is the tiny leap, the smallest, most impactful step you could take? Part 2: Diving Deeper Well it turns out that the answer is stretching. Yeah, stretching first thing in the morning is one habit that, if done can have massive effects on your energy levels, mood, and overall experience throughout the rest of the day. According to an article on South Dakota State University's website: "Stretching first thing in the morning can relieve any tension or pain from sleeping the night before. It also helps increase your blood flow and prepares your body for the day ahead." Overnight as we sleep our bodies are rarely moving. As a result our muscles get sore, our joints get tight, and our blood pressure goes down. When we wake our bodies naturally work to reset these but a good stretch can be an excellent short cut to help make this happen faster. Here's what an article on Scientific American has to say about blood flow to the brain: "Part of the reason exercise enhances cognition has to do with blood flow. Research shows that when we exercise, blood pressure and blood flow increase everywhere in the body, including the brain. More blood means more energy and oxygen, which makes our brain perform better." Part 3: The Solution Increased blood flow to the brain can improve alertness and energy levels through the rest of the day Reducing aches and pains can improve mood Getting back into your body and reconnecting with the physical world can help you stay present through the day All of that just from stretching each morning. Easy right? So while having a full morning routine that includes stretching would be a good thing, if you find yourself with less time to work with or if you find yourself struggling to be consistent with that routine just focus on stretching and you can still get some huge benefits.
