It's been a few weeks since Patrick bested Nextlander's Brad Shoemaker in a classic setup: who can beat the purposely difficult and arcane Volgarr the Viking and Volgarr the Viking II first, when played back-to-back while streaming? In its wake, Patrick chatted with Kris Dürrschmidt, CEO and creative director at Volgarr the Viking developer Crazy Viking Studios. You'll do fine listening if you haven't played Volgarr the Viking, as they spend most of their time discussing the nature of challenge, gotcha design, and the evolution of gaming's relationship with difficulty.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This week on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, Jemma and Kirk discuss the latest rumors swirling about an upcoming Nintendo Direct. September is one of the most common timings for a Direct in Nintendo's history, so we use the evidence to weigh things up. A lot like Kirk is doing in Ace Attorney Investigations, a game he's reviewing at the moment. Meanwhile, Jemma is playing the brutal Volgarr the Viking and Stumble Guys. We also talk The Plucky Squire, Snufkin, Star Wars Hunters and REYNATIS.

Game Informer's plug was shockingly pulled last week, bringing the last of the major US videogame magazines to an unceremonious end. We'll leave it to others to properly eulogize GI, but we'll mark its passing by inviting Dan Amrich and Dave Rudden (both former editors of GamePro and other mags) to talk about five of our all-time favorite game magazines. Then we'll get into Volgarr the Viking II, World of Goo 2, a new Darksiders, and some things you were introduced to by videogames. Question of the Week: What's the first game magazine you remember reading? Specific issues if possible. Break song is the Nintendo Power commercial jingle. Marc starts things off this week talking about the mental strains of their injury and thoughts on new and future content for the site--like maybe the return of Animezingly Baka (finally)--before getting to what they've been playing with Volgarr the Viking II, The Lullaby of Life, CONSCRIPT, Roots of Pacha, Cattie, Cilla, and I Want To Go To Mars. Anyway and as always, thank you for watching or listening, I hope you enjoy this here episode, and I hope you have a wonderful wonderful rest of your day. You ready for some retro-inspired punishment of the Nordic variety? If so, you've come to the right place. Volgar the Viking II is on the horizon and I've asked Kris Durrschmidt (Creative Director / CEO of Crazy Viking Studios) and Calvin Vu (Producer, Digital Eclipse) to join me to discuss all thing Volgarr and the games that inspired it. Well hello there dear listener, and welcome back to another episode of Trophy Talk! In episode 115 we have some more trophy lists to review for your consideration as well as all the normal run of the show including Patreon topics, and shout outs to our fantastic community members and the platinum's they've earned in the past two week period! The game's this episode run the gambit. First, Josh reviews the list for the upcoming Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, a game that appears to take a refreshing stance on some storied mechanics in Souls games. Strangely the price point for Flintlock is much lower than we would have imagined as well which points to this experience being shorter (which is a good thing). Next up Darryl reviews the first person narrative horror game Still Wakes the Deep, developed by The Chinese Room, a studio in Scotland... who would have guessed! The game looks great though, and being a first person narrative spin on horror, is one that's right up Darryl's alley. Lastly, Colin takes us to the era of the Viking in Volgarr the Viking II, an 80s arcade inspired action side scroller known for its brutal difficulty and demanding mechanics. While this game is short, and seemingly simple, the first Volgarr was one of the hardest games that Colin has ever played. As noted, this episode of course features some Platinum shout outs from our Discord, appeals to our Rage God, and answers to your Patreon submitted questions. What is our favorite animation in all of gaming? What PS2 classics do we want brought to the PS4 and PS5 next? Do our spouses ever help us earn trophies, or accidentally make us miss a trophy at the last second? Only the play button has the answers. Thank you for listening, and enjoy!
