. . We're starting a new feature on VUX World: The Run Down. Dustin Coates and I are getting together each week (or bi-weekly) to discuss the recent happenings in the voice space and how that'll impact designers, developers and brands.Alexa settings APIWe're starting off by discussing the Amazon Alexa feature that developers have been clambering for since 2016: the settings API.With the settings API, you can access the user's timezone (among other things) and use that within your skill to personalise the voice experience for your users. You can send them targeted push notificationsat the appropriate time and use their preferred weather measurement (Celsius or Fahrenheit). We discuss Eric Olsen's (3PO Labs) in-depth review of the settings APIand how it could be the beginning of something bigger.Scott Huffman's 5 insights on voice techWe also discuss Scott Huffman's post (VP Engineering, Google Assistant) on the five insights on voice technologyand how they should impact your approach. For example, focusing on utilities and understanding what kind of things people use Assistant for at different times of day.Voysis and Voicebot vCommerce studyWe delve into the Voysis and Voicebot study on vCommerceand discuss how voice on mobile is so important, yet how it's bubbling away under the surface, not grabbing many headlines.Alexa skills challenge, Storyline and icon creationFinally, we discuss the latest Alexa Skills Challenge: Games, in-skill purchases on Storyline (check out VUX World with Vasili Shynkarenka, CEO, Storyline) and the new Alexa feature that allows anyone to create icons for their skills.Where to listenApple podcastsSpotifyYouTubeCastBoxSpreakerTuneInBreakerStitcherPlayerFMiHeartRadioOther linksThe Power of Habit bookHooked book See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. As the years have passed what passed since the invention of the personal computer, what passes in the world of technology has changed dramatically. So what’s next? Voice computing is once answer. Voice computing is one of the hottest and most fascinating areas of today’s’ technology landscape. Peter Cahill is the CEO of Voysis, an Irish startup using AI to make voice computing more realistic, and a part of more online retail experiences everywhere.
According to a recent study conducted by audio and AI company Voysis, more than half of voice commerce is conducted on mobile phones with assistant programs like Siri or emerging platforms that are enabling audio conversions. However, the rise of mobile voice sales is also a result of retailers investing more heavily in voice-activated mobile apps and technology, according to Ryan Macinnis, director of marketing at Voysis. "Secondhand Commerce" is changing the way that we purchase luxury goods - from watches and handbags to sneakers - secondary markets are finding life after the initial purchase. Plus: Macy's acquires Story in a move to bring experiential retail to big the department store. Special thanks to Ryan MacInnis of Voysis for joining us on this episode of Future Commerce! We’ve covered plenty of voice first designand developmenton this podcast. Well, that’s what the podcast is, so we’re bound to! Most of what we’ve discussed has largely been voice assistant or smart speaker-focused. We haven’t covered a huge amount of voice first application in the browser and on mobile, until now.Mic checkYou’ll have noticed the little mic symbol popping up on a number of websites lately. It’s in the Google search bar, it’s on websites such as EchoSim and Spotify are trialing it too. When you press that mic symbol, it enables your mic on whatever device you’re using and lets you speak your search term.Next time you see that mic, you could be looking at the entry point to Voysis. On a lot of websites, that search may well just use the website’s standard search tool to perform the search. With Voysis, its engine will perform the search for you using its voice tech stack. That means that you can perform more elaborate searches that most search engines would struggle with. For example:“Show me Nike Air Max trainers, size 8, in black, under $150”Most search engines would freak out at this, but not Voysis. That’s what it does.Of course, it’s more than an ecommerce search tool, as we’ll find out during this episode. In this episodeWe discuss how approaches to new technology seem to wrongly follow a reincarnation route. Turning print into web by using the same principles that govern print. Turning online into mobile by using the same principles that govern the web. Then taking the practices and principles of GUI and transferring that to VUI. We touch on why moving you app to voice is the wrong approach. We also discuss:Voysis - what it is and what it doesGetting sophisticated with searchesDesigning purely for voice vs multi modalThe challenge of ecommerce with a zero UIThe nuance between the GUI assistant and voice only assistantsHow multi modal voice experiences can help the shopping experienceMaking the transition from GUI to VUIThe similarities between moving from web to mobile and from mobile to voice - (when moving to mobile, you had to think about gestures and smaller screens)Error states and points of delightThe difference between designing for voice and designing for a screenTesting for voiceUnderstand voice first ergonomicsOur GuestBrian Colcord, VP of Design at Voysis, is a world-leading designer, cool, calm and collected speaker and passionate sneaker head. After designing the early versions of the JoinMe brand markings and UI, he was recruited by LogMeIn and went on to be one of the first designers to work on the Apple Watch prior to its release.Brian has made the transition from GUI to VUI design and shares with us his passion for voice, how he made the transition, what he learned and how you can do it too.About VoysisVoysis is a Dublin-based voice technology company that believes voice interactions can be as natural as human ones and are working intently to give brands the capability to have natural language interactions with customers.LinksCheck out the Voysis websiteFollow Voysis on TwitterRead the Voysis blogJoin Brian on LinkedInFollow Brian on TwitterListen to the AI in industry podcast with Voysis CEO, Peter CahillRead Brian's post, You're already a voice designer, you just don't know it yetWhere to listeniTunes/Apple podcastsSpotifyStitcherTuneIniHeartRadioPippaAny other podcast player you use or ask Any Pod to play V.U.X. Episode Summary: Over the last couple of years there has been a definite but small shift from mobile as the primary interface focus for businesses to voice. With home assistant devices like the Amazon Echo and the Google Home becoming more commonplace, we aim to focus on how voice based AI applications are being used by businesses today and what this adoption will look like in the future. In this week's episode of AI in Industry, we speak with Peter Cahill, the founder and CEO of Voysis, a voice AI platform that enables voice-based natural language instruction, search, and discovery. Peter explores areas where voice related AI applications will be used by businesses in B2B and B2C spaces today and what this might look like in five years. Voice is dominating commerce experiences: but is it kitsch or is it kismet? What separates retailers who are implementing voice strategies? Ryan MacInnis of Voysis joins us to talk about how to give your brand a voice in a world spoken by Alexa. Plus: Facebook Fiona and Aloha - one more smart speaker / tablet to contend for our attention.
Today, I'm talking with , the Director of Marketing at the SaaS startup . Voysis uses AI to instantly adds natural language voice search to ecommerce apps. In layman's terms, this means shoppers can search and shop by simply saying things like, “Show me running sneakers” or “Add these in size 11 to my cart.” Ryan has taken the marketing lessons he's learned working for companies like Twitter and applied them to smaller startups, managing to double traffic and triple leads with a budget of only $1,000. In our chat, Ryan shares how he did that and how you can take those lessons to build your own marketing machine without a large budget. If you're struggling to generate predictable growth without breaking the bank, then this is the episode for you.
Today we’re chatting with Ryan MacInnis, the Director of Marketing at Voysis, a voice AI platform for ecommerce brands. Ryan joins us to share his story, how he got into tech & ecommerce, how he joined Voysis and what their platform is all about, why voice is so exciting for both B2B and B2C brands, what it’s been like competing against the largest native voice platform (Alexa), and much more. So let’s get started!
Ronan talks to Peter Cahill the CEO and Founder of Voysis. Peter talks about his background, what Voysis does, the differences between Voysis and Watson, and how Voysis works with different accents. Peter also talks about voice and AI, GDPR, how voice technology has improved over the past 20 years., the hiring of Ian Hodson from Google, and their plans for the next 5 years including hiring more staff.
An all-star duo (Brian Roemmele of ReadMultiplex.com, Ryan MacInnis, Director of Marketing for Voysis) discuss the latest in voice technology news, including Amazon's experimentation with Alexa skill monetization, Amazon's controversial IoT-based "Amazon Key" home offering, Google's 50 new #VoiceFirst experiences for children, Cortana's growth in number of skills developed for Microsoft's platform, Adweek's exploration of Facebook's data advantage, and much more. Hosted by Bradley Metrock (CEO, Score Publishing) and part of the VoiceFirst.FM podcast network.
In the October 2017 episode of "Artificial Intelligence," host Bradley Metrock (CEO, Score Publishing, and host of VoiceFirst.FM podcasts "This Week In Voice" and "The VoiceFirst Roundtable") interviews Dr. Peter Cahill, CEO and founder of Voysis. The discussion covers Dr. Cahill's decades of experience in voice and speech processing, how Voysis got started, how Voysis interacts with clients to manage data and glean insights that will inform the construction of voice services, and much more. ("AI" is part of the VoiceFirst.FM podcast network.)
I focused a few of the last conversations on the growing importance of voice-first technologies that have us swiping/typing less and talking more to our devices. And as consumer adoption of devices like Amazon’s Echo and Google Home, among others, takes off, companies need to get serious about how this will impact customer engagement. And next year is the year to start figuring it out, according to Eric Bisceglia, VP of Go-to-Market for Voysis, a voice AI platform that enables voice driven natural language instruction, search, and discovery across mobile, web, and devices. Below is an edited transcript of our conversation. To hear the whole interview click on the embedded player below.
Peter Cahill has been working in voice technology for 15 years. He has a PhD. in Text-to-Speech, was a professor of speech technology at the University of Dublin and more recently founded speech technology platform, Voysis. Voysis raised $8 million in VC funding in February 2017 and has offices in Dublin, Boston and Edinburgh. While Peter expects Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri will have great success in many consumer applications, he founded Voysis to provide businesses with a flexible platform enabling them to own the entire end-to-end customer experience. Every new technology platform shift generates new billion dollar valuation companies. Could Voysis be among this group for voice and AI? Peter discusses the challenges of voice technology, how TTS differs from STT, what Voysis is up to in voice commerce and where the industry is headed. Enjoy.
Suddenly, every tech company wants you to talk to their machines. Mashable tech intern Freia Lobo joins to talk with Ian Hodson, distinguished architect at Voysis and a veteran of voice-based technology.
