Walter Wallace Jr.'s police shooting murder, a Philadelphia man in a mental health crisis who attacked policemen with a knife, sparked widespread uproar in the city. PBWW reported on many incidents of police personnel being assaulted and withdrawn from protesters on the first night of turmoil. On the second night, however, it seemed as if the officers were the ones rioting, and an innocent woman and her baby were caught in the crossfire. #rickiayoung #walterwallacejnr #officerdarrenkardos #usa

There were only 18 days last year that did not see a police officer kill a civilian in this country. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Walter Wallace Jr, Daniel Prude, and Rayshard Brooks, were among the 1,127 people killed by police last year. And we know that Black people are more than three times as likely to be killed during a police encounter as their white peers. A year after the murder of George Floyd, systemic, transformative change is still desperately needed at every level of government, but too often police unions and their lobbying efforts obstruct that change. Joining us today to talk about all this is Dr. William P. Jones, a history professor at the University of Minnesota and the president of the Labor and Working-Class History Association, whose work focuses on the relationship between race and class, as well as on the history of unions and organizing in the U.S.

Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks about Katie Hobbs making sure the Arizona election results are accurate, Andrew Cuomo’s new COVID rules just in time for Thanksgiving, and the insane demands of a student strike at Haverford College. Dave begins discussing Katie Hobbs, the Arizona Secretary of State, who is overseeing the incredibly close election results of the Arizona election. While being trusted to deliver fair 2020 election results, some of her past anti-Trump Tweets have come to light which call her bias into question. Meanwhile New York Governor Cuomo has announced some new COVID restrictions that don’t seem to “trust the science”. He is imposing a 10pm curfew on bars and restaurants despite there being no science saying that the virus only comes out at night. Finally congratulations to the students of Haverford College who’s strike was able to use the fatal shooting of Walter Wallace Jr. by Philadelphia Police in nearby Philadelphia as a justification for changing their grading system and throwing more money at diversity training, and equity programs. A cell phone video of the killing of West Philadelphia resident Walter Wallace Jr. was viewed more than a 1 million times. Then, on Nov. 4th, the Philadelphia Police Department released the official body camera footage of the shooting, which was undeniably disturbing. There are two schools of thought about whether videos of police killing Black men should be released. One says they should, because they raise awareness about police brutality and systemic racism, while another says no, because watching them could be traumatic, especially for Black and brown people. Guest Layla A. Jones of WHYY’s Billy Penn explains about the mental health effects of viral police videos and what people who are traumatized by them can do to help themselves heal.

The US 2020 Election is today. If you haven't voted, please do so. In light of the moment and all the work we've done to get to this point, we wanted to take this opportunity to talk about the reasons we joined this fight. What started out as an episode about our motivations for doing this work ended up being a review of some of our most important show topics. Everything from racism in the wellness space to de-funding the police. This work has given us the privilege of learning more about what's happening in this country and also the great organizations doing amazing work to help solve the problems or alleviate the pain caused by them. No matter what happens in this election, the fight continues. Justice For All is the main objective. A fair and equitable world is what we fight for and no matter who wins, we have our work cut out for us. So take a moment to breath, rest and reset. Then, let's get back to the fight. We say the name of our fallen this week, Marcus-David Peters and Walter Wallace Jr. And we highlight Vote Save America working to inform and push people to the polls and Ashley Lukashevsky and artist painter using her skills to provoke, uplift, and inspire. One day at a time, we'll get through this. Stay encouraged and stay active. And as always, thanks so much for hanging with us as we unlearn the BS and relearn the good stuff. 1. At least seven people were taken to hospitals, according to Omaha Scanner, a service that monitors official radio traffic. In Omaha, an estimated crowd of more than 6,000 people jammed into risers outside the airport. Though the campaign checked temperatures and provided masks, many people didn't wear them, the World-Herald reported. After Trump's speech, where he promised that “we're making that final turn” on COVID-19 in a state where positivity rates now exceed 20 percent, per the World-Herald, Trump flew away on Air Force One around 9 p.m. Attendees began lining up for buses to return to their cars. By nearly 10:30 p.m., though, there were still no buses in sight. “President Trump took off in Air Force One 1 hr 20 minutes ago, but thousands of his supporters remain stranded on a dark road outside the rally,” tweeted CNN's Jeff Zeleny. https://www.inquirer.com/politics/nation/donald-trump-rally-buses-attendees-cold-taken-to-hospital-20201028.html Remembering. Walter Wallace Jr.’s family says they called for an ambulance on Monday afternoon because the 27-year-old was in the midst of a mental health crisis. Police arrived instead, and Wallace was shot and killed by two officers. Only three weeks earlier, the department announced a new program calling for a clinically trained behavioral health worker to help identify 911 calls that require a different kind of response. WHYY reporters Ximena Conde and Nina Feldman explain why that initiative wasn’t implemented in time, potentially costing Wallace his life.

Riots Erupt Across America Episode 40 Riots Raging across America over police shooting death of Walter Wallace Jr in Philadelphia Hundreds of protesters marched through the US city of Philadelphia for a second night, demanding racial justice after police fatally shot a black man. The family of Walter Wallace Jr says he was suffering a mental health crisis when officers opened fire on him. Police say they shot him because he would not drop a knife he was holding. The National Guard as well as police reinforcements have been deployed. Authorities say 30 officers were hurt during Monday night clashes. The city's police have also accused protesters of looting and ransacking businesses during the unrest. Mr Wallace, 27, had bipolar disorder, and his wife told officers this before they shot him, a lawyer representing his family said. Philadelphia also saw large protests earlier this year over police brutality and racism following the death of George Floyd in Minnesota. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/hollywoodandchinadollshow/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hollywoodandchinadollshow/support
