Episode 100 - Sales Inspiration and Motivation (feat. Stacy Mayer)I have a very special episode for you today as I celebrate my 100th episode of A Life You Love podcast. Amazing! And I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than with my good friend, executive coach, and promotion strategist, Stacy Mayer. I started this podcast during the pandemic to escape all the negative news about covid and focus on something I was passionate about – sales! My amazing executive coach Stacy Mayer encouraged me to showcase my thought leadership on a podcast. Stacy told me to find something I was passionate about and start a podcast. After thinking long and hard, I told Stacy that I don't have anything I'm passionate enough about to start a podcast. The only thing I get truly excited and passionate about is sales and my work at WorldStrides. And to think, here I am 100 episodes later, still having a blast sharing sales tips and tricks on a Life You Love podcast. Especially when 90% of podcasts don't make it past episode 3 and of the 10% who make it past 3 episodes, 90% of them don't make it past 20 episodes. Unbelievable!!! Thank you to all my listeners who have supported me on this journey. I couldn't do it without any of you!Stacy inspired me to start this podcast and she continues to inspire me to this day and coaches me always to be reaching for more. Krysti leads off with the Opera Garnier Paris and its illustrious history. This opera house spurred rumors of a phantom, has an underground lake, and is all sorts of fancy to boot. This historical building fields 400+ performances per year and was built to be a safe place for the elite to see performances without coming under attack. This was the opera house that spurred the Phantom of the Opera novel. Krys also covers the Rue de Chantres and its gruesome story. Tori goes back to her roots and covers, you guessed it, a cemetery. Arlington National Cemetery in Fort Myer, VA has long been a draw when you visit Washington D.C. The history of this cemetery tells us that the owners of the grounds before it became the cemetery backed the wrong team. This cemetery has one of the most stringent requirements for burial out of all the national cemeteries. So. Many. Stories. Episode 53 - Building Good Habits in SalesI just came back from an exciting week at my company's One WorldStrides EDGE conference to kickoff 2022. Almost 700 employees attended from 5 countries – such an amazing and inspiring time. The word EDGE in the conference name stands for Education, Diversity, Growth, and Experiences which is the backbone of what we do in developing study abroad and educational travel experiences. This conference felt so good for my soul. Just the ability to see so many of our teammates in person, laughing and bonding together. We listened to a fabulous keynote address from Erica Dhawan on connectional intelligence, product showcases highlighting all of the divisions at WorldStrides, a conference hall with all of our ERG booths, we hopped on buses for an educational tour of DC (mimicking our middle and high school programs) and finished off the conference with an International Gala. We had food stations from all of the world and met Jufu – who is the new sponsor of our Gap year programs. All in all, a terrific time and so glad we were able to come together in person for this very special 2022 kickoff. Now that we're back from the conference, it made me think about good habits in sales that each of us needs to exemplify in order to be successful in 2022.The difference between an average salesperson and a good one is staggering. Average reps hit their quota – most of the time – while good ones don't just consistently hit, they have blow-out months and quarters. Good sales reps earn their prospects' admiration, loyalty, and referrals. They skillfully handle objections and preemptively surface concerns to make them disappear. A good salesperson has more to offer customers and prospects than an exciting pitch – they're enthusiastic individuals with resilience and they take the time to get to know their customers' needs, show empathy, and deal in a product in confidence. They also know how to handle rejection and learn from both their most successful deals and ones lost.A few of these characteristics include being delightful. A positive first impression is important in establishing a professional relationship. As a salesperson, you should have a well-put-together appearance and an inviting demeanor.Good salespeople are enthusiastic. They will put the work in even when it gets tough. Being motivated to get the job done shows that you are passionate. While friendliness is a good trait, you have to let your customers know you're prepared too. Customers want to make deals with salespeople who are dependable, fact-driven, and likely to ask questions and deliver the answers they're looking for. Salespeople also need to be resilient, attentive, and thorough. Sales numbers can vary from time to time, but that doesn't deter a good salesperson. Instead of getting discouraged, you'll rethink your game plan and get back to work. Salespeople understand that each customer has different needs. Actively listening to their pain points can help you create a deal they'll value. They are also an expert in what they're selling. Demonstrating that you're knowledgeable makes you more reputable in the eyes of customers. Let me know how you build good habits in sales - message me on LinkedIn

Episode 50: Setting Yourself Up for Success in 2022I am super excited to announce this is my 1-year anniversary of publishing A Life You Love podcast. I can't believe it! I started this podcast during the pandemic as a way to escape all the negative news about covid and focus on something that I was passionate about – sales! My amazing executive coach Stacy Mayer encouraged me to showcase my thought leadership on a podcast. Stacy told me to find something I was passionate about and start a podcast. After thinking long and hard, I told Stacy that I don't have anything I'm passionate enough about to start a podcast on. The only thing I get truly excited and passionate about is sales and my work at WorldStrides. And to think, here I am one year later, still having a ball sharing sales tips and tricks on a Life You Love podcast. Especially when 90% of podcasts don't make it past episode 3 and of the 10% who make it past 3 episodes, 90% of them don't make it past 20 episodes. Amazing!!! Thank you to all my listeners who have supported me on this journey. I couldn't do it without any of you – thank you!As I dive into this week's anniversary episode, I'm going to discuss strategies to set yourself up for success in 2022.Sales is a profession where you need to always be on and ready to land your next client. As one of my colleagues says, “you always need to be ready, so you don't have to take time to GET ready”. With the beginning of 2022, many businesses are getting ready for sales kickoff – and I love sales kickoff. It's a time where we can all come together, and yes, for the first time in 2 years we will be gathering in person in Washington, DC (I can't wait)!!Sales kickoffs are a time where we can reflect on the past year, what we did well, where we can pivot and build out sales strategies and campaigns for 2022. Kickoff is an opportunity to motivate and inspire your sales team to reach for the stars!

Read the complete transcription on the Sales Game Changers Podcast website. JENNIFER'S TIP: "Move forward. You have to keep moving forward. Have that courage to try something new, pivot, change. Just move forward. As long as you keep moving forward, you're going to be okay." CLINT'S TIP: "You succeed only – and I underscore only – when your customers succeed. Pick a customer, sit down with a blank piece of paper and see if you can articulate your customer's top three business priorities. Draw a line and then see if you can articulate the three biggest problems they face to achieve those opportunities. If you can do it, great, you're well on your way to helping your customers solve their hardest problems. If you can't do it, you need to go back and do some more listening and some more investigation about what's important to your customer."
This season on the BTB podcast we plan on continuing to learn more about the speakers who share their stories with our students each summer, but we will also introduce our listeners to the movers and shakers that make our programs worthwhile. Today I am joined by Yolanda Golden, the new head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at WorldStrides. She has spent The last few years at Envision, operating as one of the Vice Presidents of Education Experience before moving into her new role.
Episode #39 Unstoppable DriveHow do you build, develop, maintain unstoppable drive?Drive is a trait common to virtually any successful person in sales. Motivation plays an incredibly important role in achieving success. Motivation will cause you to want to jump out of bed each morning and it will keep you thinking, with excitement about how you can improve or pivot your sales strategy to bring in new business throughout your day. This drive and enthusiasm is not limited to those who are naturally ambitious, anyone can develop a burning passion, excitement and love for sales that makes you feel like you've got the best job in the world (which is how I feel everyday) getting up and going to work at WorldStrides.Motivation is ultimately about the strength of our associations between reward and punishment. If I hold a gun to your head and tell you to stop procrastinating, do you think you'll stop and start taking acting? Probably, I know I would. Similarly, if I offered you a million dollars if you can stick to your diet for another day, I bet you'd be a millionaire. By taking control of these associations and continuously reinforcing them, you can strengthen your motivation and drive. Here are my 3 tips develop and maintain unstoppable drive:1. Create urgency in taking steps to achieve your goals2. Build momentum, remember, motivation follows action.3. Surround yourself with positive and inspiring friends and colleaguesRemember this, you control your motivation. As long as you believe that there are steps to control and manage your motivation, you can utilize it. If you feel that motivation is something that ebbs and flows without your control, then you will be forced to operate at a suboptimal level. Increase your drive and you increase the chances that you will achieve your goals.Connect with me on LinkedIn and let me know how you leverage motivation. This was an exciting first for STAMPED; this episode was done live! As a part of ISA by Worldstrides February 2021 Live Expo, we had the opportunity to interview Malaika Serrano, VP of Diversity and Inclusion. Malaika is a powerhouse in the industry and someone I look up to in the field. For nearly 20 years, Malaika has led diversity and inclusion initiatives in academic, non-profit and private sector spaces. In her current position as the VP for diversity and inclusion at WorldStrides, she works closely with Senior Leadership to define vision and strategy. This includes a number of education and organizational initiatives designed to foster a community of inclusion and a diverse workforce. During Malaika's tenure at the University of Maryland, she created and taught several international service-learning and social justice courses. Students were invited to examine their social identities in both domestic and international contexts, as well as challenge assumptions around race, class, ability, and gender. We hope you enjoy "A conversation from the field with Malaika Serrano". Follow the Fun on Instagram and LinkedIn

Read the complete transcription on the Sales Game Changers Podcast website. JENNIFER'S TIP FOR EMERGING SALES LEADERS: "Focus on what you can control, what's right here, right in front of you. Whatever business you're in, every interaction is about adding value to your partner, adding value to your client or prospect. How are you going to do that? Clear out the minutiae around you and focus on what you can control. When you do that, you’re not letting it happen to you, you're making things happen. That's very positive and that's exciting."
Kelly Bryant is the Director of Global Experiences at WorldStrides, where she partners with top universities and business schools to arrange short-term global immersion programs. The Global Experiences team works closely with faculty and deans to connect university students with local organizations and nonprofits to facilitate educational meetings, service-learning activities, and consulting projects. Prior to working at WorldStrides, Kelly worked in financial services in a business-to-consumer brand marketing role where she focused on consumer promotions, emerging business trends, and corporate branding. In that position, Kelly was a key member in researching and sourcing new vendors and partners, strategizing promotional concepts, and managing campaign logistics for multiple programs simultaneously. Kelly holds a BA in International Business from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. She lives and works in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Jan Sikorsky, the VP of Innovations at WorldStrides, offers a unique perspective on importance of STEM in the evolution of experiential learning. Our host, Amanda Whitener, asks thought-provoking questions to create a space for Jan to use colorful imagery as he describes what is needed to successfully deliver educational content, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This episode is insight into path he took to become a leader in K-12 product innovation, a path he admittedly did not start his journey on, and then leaves you wanting to learn more about how you can stay innovative while things are rapidly evolving around us.
Today’s assemblage of pertinent information is brought to you by the College Inn, a place that is ready to bring you a variety of food and beverages throughout Charlottesville via delivery. That includes ice cream! Place your order online at thecollegeinn.com or phone 977-2710. The governors of both New York and New Jersey have placed Virginia on a list of states from where travelers are expected to self isolate for 14 days if they plan to travel there. According to a press release from Governor Phil Murphy, this travel advisory applies to states where the seven day positive testing rate is higher than ten or where the positive rate is higher than 10 per 10,000 residents. In New Jersey, that applies to 31 states as of yesterday. That applies to New Jersey residents who have traveled to Virginia or those other places. Travelers to New York arriving by airplane are now required to fill out a form with information about where the 14-day quarantine will take place. The Albemarle Board of Supervisors will meet at 1 p.m. to discuss a potential return to Phase 2 restrictions in the county. The six-member body discussed the matter last week and asked staff to come back with information about how the county might enforce guidelines intended to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus. *The school year is fast approaching and the conversation over whether in-person classes should be held continues. The athletic director for the City of Charlottesville has “decided to suspend upcoming athletic conditioning and workout sessions” until it is more clear whether sporting events will take place this fall. Rodney Redd sent an email to city school parents Tuesday announcing a decision about to proceed locally will come after the Virginia High School announces their plans for the upcoming school year. That’s expected to take place on Monday, July 27. The City School Board will meet on Thursday July 30 to determine their path forward. City Schools Superintendent Rosa Atkins has proposed starting school on September 8, the same as Albemarle County. Right now both jurisdictions are preparing a series of options to proceed, including online-only options, and a final decision for both is fast approaching. Albemarle County will hold three town halls to gather input on how to proceed, with the first happening on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The other two dates are Friday, July 24 at 2 p.m. and Monday, July 27 at 6 p.m. Until then, both systems are continuing to provide meal deliveries. Charlottesville City Schools are still doing meal deliveries on Mondays and Wednesdays. Albemarle has a series of events on different days. (Albemarle Return to School page) (Charlottesville schools page)*The Greene County Board of Supervisors held an emergency meeting last night to discuss their next steps now that the Rapidan Service Authority has taken an action that puts the creation of a new reservoir in jeopardy. On July 14, Greene Supervisors voted to increase monthly facility fees to help fund the White Run Reservoir project. The Rapidan Service Authority's Board of Directors consists of two representatives each from Greene, Orange and Madison Counties. They met on July 16 and Greene County Administrator Mark B. Taylor said there was no indication that the RSA would take a vote that could end the reservoir project. "The RSA agenda makes no mention and gives no indication of what turned out to be an obviously prearranged action that was taken by the RSA Board and that is an item to consider termination of facility fees," Taylor said. Taylor said the RSA hid the item from Greene County's view and the public's view. The four representatives from Madison and Orange voted to terminate the fees, while Greene's voted against that idea. A press release sent out on July 16 by the RSA that “as of July 17, the RSA Board of Directors will require that all water availability fees in Greene County be paid directly to the Rapidan Service Authority” and that the RSA “will no longer bill or collect water facility fees or sewer facility fees.” "It should be pointed out that that is contrary to agreements signed by both the RSA and Greene County," Taylor said. The expansion of the water supply for Greene County's designated growth area has a cost estimate of between $45 million and $60 million. Taylor said RSA has been made aware of the plans to date. Greene Supervisor Chair Bill Martin, and RSA member, said the county has anticipated that its future growth depends on a new reservoir for water storage rather than relying on taking in water from the Rapidan River. He said he objected to the motion."I also followed that up by saying that 'Am I now hearing that water service can't proceed with the run of the river philosophy, even after these years of knowing we needed more than what was coming down out of the mountains down under the bridge at 29 where the water intake pipe is," Martin said. The Greene Board of Supervisors took no action. Look for extended coverage in the Greene County Record. (RSA July 16, 2020 agenda)* A Charlottesville-based firm that arranges educational trips for school children across the country has declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to an article in the Daily Progress. Worldstrides was sold to a European private equity firm in 2016, and the filing in the Southern District of New York offers a path for the original owners to buy the company back. A press release quotes president Robert Gogel as saying the pandemic brought the tourism industry to a standstill, but “our owners and our lenders continue to believe in the long-term opportunity for WorldStrides.” The company is the 6th largest employer in the city of Charlottesville according to the Virginia Employment Commission. (press release)In other meetings today, The Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board (MPO) meets at 4 p.m. The two Charlottesville City Councilors and two Albemarle Supervisors will review the area’s Smart Scale submissions. They will also discuss an update to the federally-required Public Participation Plan, consider support for the INVEST in America Act and the Long Bridge Act, The Charlottesville Housing Advisory Committee will hold a virtual meeting at 12 p.m. (agenda)The Albemarle Broadband Authority (ABBA) meets at 5 p.m. for a virtual meeting. Always think about how you are helping that other person and by doing that, you're going to fall in love with what you do.
