...in which we gather at YHA Borrowdale for a wide-ranging chat about hostelling in the Lake District: the people. the places and the passion. In the company of Aaron Jones, manager at YHA Borrowdale; Christine Thomas, co-owner of Elterwater Hostel; and Elterwater team member Charlie Spiller, we begin by asking what fanned their hostelling flames (family holidays, illicit treks and Amsterdam's red light district respectively). Looking back over the early, then glory, days of the YHA – when the charity operated 300 hostels; when you were expected to arrive "under your own steam";, and when guests mucked-in with chores – we proceed to today, where a professionalised 'home from home' hospitality approach is championed by both the YHA and a thriving independent sector. Immersing ourselves in hostel life, we profile a typical working day at both Borrowdale (buzzy games room, thriving bar) and Elterwater (table service, sticky toffee pudding) before quizzing our guests on their favourite hostels. Delving deeper into the business of running a hostel – a sector in recovery after the strains of Covid – we learn about the highs and lows of hostel operation; about the satisfaction that comes from facilitating new friendships, and about why, in an increasingly divided world, interactions in hostels are as important as ever. We're back! Over the summer the Youth Hostel Association announced it was selling off some of its properties in a bid to stay afloat. It seems like a cruel irony at a time when many of us had reconnected with nature over the lockdowns. The charity has long been committed to opening up the outdoors to more people, especially children and young people, says Sally Nutland. But is there a way to save the YHA hostels? We talk about what the loss of these hostels means with Talia Randall and Haroon Mota, and why it's so important that everyone can access nature in rural and urban Britain.Plus: What made one listener throw up in their cornflakes??GuestsSally Nutland, Communications Manager, Youth Hostel Association (@YHAOfficial)Haroon Mota, Founder Muslim Hikers and the Active Inclusion Network (@Haroon_Mota / @Muslim_Hikers)Talia Randall, Writer, performer and podcaster (@TaliaRandall)More informationRead more about the sale of the 20 YHA properties in this John Harris column (Guardian)Support the YHA's No Child Left Behind Campaign for children who are unable to afford a school residentialVisit YHA Boggle HoleLearn more about and support Muslim HikersListen to Talia's podcast 'Blossom Trees and Burnt Out Cars' on BBC SoundsLearn more about the Right To Roam campaign and listen to our episode on it Read more about the benefits of parks and green spaces and research by Natural England on engaging under-represented groups in nature Hosted on Acast. In this episode I visit the Aurum Institute Pop Inn Clinic at Loftus Shopping Center in Pretoria and have a chat to Mmakgabo Seopa about mental health challenges and options within the LGBTQ+ community. I was happy to hear that just like me when she favours CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) when counselling. Mmakgabo Seopa is a 29year old mother of one, who is ambitious, committed and a hardworking female. She has recently obtained her Bachelor of psychology degree from the Pearson Institute of Higher Education (now Known as Eduvos). She is a qualified Registered Counsellor through the Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and currently employed at Youth Health Africa (YHA) as a psychosocial counsellor. YHA is an organization that is partnered with The Aurum Institute and is focused on empowering differently-able youth with employment opportunities in the healthcare sector.

The youth hostel industry in on the verge of collapse, according to its own industry leaders. Covid is largely to blame. After 89 years in business the YHA recently announced it is permanently closing 11 properties due to border closures and the lack of international tourists. And the report by the Backpacker and Youth Adventure Travel Association and the New Zealand Hostels Association says it is no longer an issue of struggling individual hostels, but a whole industry in jeopardy. Eve Lawrence, general manager of Haka Tours, helped compile the data. She talks to Lisa Owen.
This week, Michelle & Chambers are back to discuss the week's news - from border reopening dates, to YHA closing, to the new Traffic Light system coming in to play soon. Then we spend the rest of the episode covering off our top tips for entering Business Awards and being successful. These tips have been compiled by talking with award organisers, judges and from our own personal experiences. If you've ever wanted to enter an award, but don't really know where to start, this podcast is a great place! The closure of Kiwi YHA hostels is a massive blow to tourism.Due to financial difficulties, the eleven hostels will close from December 15.Haka Tourism has used the YHA hostels for its multi-day tours for the last few years.General Manager Eve Lawrence told Kerre McIvor the YHA had an amazing holding in New Zealand, knowing what clients want and need.“In some of the regions, this is gonna be a huge blow to the tourism infrastructure. And some of these new hostels like Tekapo, Mt Cook, Franz Josef — they're actually pretty lovely hostels.”Lawrence says the company could offer a seven-day isolation package to international travellers to help the industry.“But the problem is offshore partners and airlines simply just will not sell New Zealand when the rest of the world is open if people have to isolate for seven days. They just won't sell us.”She says the industry will be lobbying the Government to get rid of the isolation as it will still prevent many tourists coming to New Zealand.LISTEN ABOVE

The Youth Hostelling Association of England and Wales has just published a new report ‘Outside Voices' challenging the assumptions and stereotypes around access to the great outdoors for everyone. The report featured a number of stories from a wide range of people from different backgrounds including visually impaired people. RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey caught up with Anita Kerwin-Nye, YHA Executive Director of Strategy and Engagement and Sue Bott CBE, a lifelong disability rights campaigner and former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Disability Rights UK who featured in 'Outside Voices' to find out more about the report and publication. Anita began by telling toby why YHA wanted to spend time researching into access to the great outdoors for everyone and publish the findings in ‘Outside Voices' along with stories from a wide range of backgrounds and view points on access to the great outdoors. Sue explained to Toby why she wanted to contribute to 'Outside Voices', what Sue enjoys from getting out and about into the great outdoors around her home, some of the barriers she and many other visually impaired people face when putting on their walking boots and exploring the countryside around them and further afield along with her thoughts on what can be done to make the experience more accessible for visually impaired people. To read a copy of the YHA publication 'Outside Voices' and to find out more about the Youth Hostelling Association of England and Wales do visit their website - https://www.yha.org.uk (Image shows RNIB logo. Amerika bilang nuklir Korut membahayakan AS dan dunia. Sedangkan Korut ngancem AS bakal krisis ekonomi.
Across the globe, the restrictions imposed by COVID-19 are beginning to ease. Foreign travel may not be an easy option for most people in summer 2021, but being able to explore your own country probably is. In this episode of the podcast, we look at some of the accommodation choices available to touring cyclists including wild camping, hotels, hostels and reciprocal accommodation sharing with contributions from WarmShowers' Tahverlee Anglen, wild camper Tim Millikin, the YHA's Simon Ainley and Simon Kershaw from Scarborough's newest hotel, Bike and Boot.
Here is Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 164, featuring an interview with YhA of Suffering Hour. Minnsesota's Suffering Hour are an antidote to the hordes of newly popular "primitive" and "caveman" death metal bands. As chaotic as the trio's mix of death and black metal gets, at its core is a progressive mindset that sets the band apart from their peers. I spoke with guitarist Josh "YhA" Raiken about how Suffering Hour emerged from his previous progressive/gothic thrash band, Compassion Dies. We also discussed how the band members worked remotely on Suffering Hour's upcoming second album, The Cyclic Reckoning, and whether it's a challenge to write metal songs if you don't listen to the style anymore. My thanks to Josh for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening. It has been a big week in the tourism industry. We heard from our new Tourism Minister and it's fair to say he has ruffled a few feathers by saying we only need to focus on the wealthy travellers. In this episode, we break down the value of the youth market with YHA's GM Marketing & Sales, Brian Westwood. We cover why we shouldn't ignore this sector, the value they bring (aside from visitor spend) and some ideas to solve some of the infrastructure issues NZ tourism is facing. We also discuss time management as Brian is another very business tourism professional and he shares some great tips for youth who may be looking at a career in tourism. This is a great episode, enjoy! Thanks for listening. www.destinatenz.com #tourismmarketing #infrastructure #YouthMarket #Backpacker #AdventureTravel
The government's proposed "reset" on tourism - focussing on attracting high net worth visitors - continues to stir up reaction in the industry. The Youth Hostels Association has published an open letter to Tourism Minister Stuart Nash, saying the youth market's significance to the New Zealand economy should not be understated. It says young travellers historically inject $1.5 billion dollars a year into the economy, the most by any age group. YHA executive Brian Westwood speaks to Corin Dann.
Yha, namanya juga dalam menjalin hubungan ada yang namanya penyesuaian. Menurut kita sih sepele, eh, gak taunya buat pasangan kita ternyata bikin kesel.

Teacher and writer Jeffrey Boakye, sitting in for Michael Rosen, talks with charity strategist, writer and educator Iesha Small. They explore the language of power and inequality in modern education and leadership, and whether they've both learned to speak 'straight white male'. They also look at the ways in which words that are seemingly innocuous and commonly used in schools conceal deep social inequities, such as the word 'disadvantaged'. Producer Beth O'Dea. Photo copyright: Antonio Olmos More about Jeffrey Boakye: Jeffrey Boakye is an author, commentator, writer and English teacher. He has a particular interest in issues surrounding education, race and popular culture. Jeffrey, originally from Brixton in London, has taught English to 11- to 18-year-olds since 2007. He began teaching in West London, moved to East London where he was Head of English, and then moved on to Yorkshire where he now lives with his wife and two sons. Jeffrey started writing his first book, Hold Tight, in 2015 when cradling his first born son in the early hours. Hold Tight was published in 2017 and is recognised as one of the first seminal books on grime music. He started writing his second book, Black, Listed, when cradling his second born son in the early hours. Published in 2019, Black, Listed was praised by David Lammy MP as ‘a book that gives a voice to those whose experience is persistently defined, refined and denied by others’. Jeffrey’s third book, What is Masculinity?, a book for children on masculinity, broke with tradition and was not written when cradling a newborn son. The ex-CEO of the YHA, Caroline White, describes how the YHA aligned their mission, organisation and strategy
In this bonus episode we chat to Caroline White, ex-CEO of the Youth Hostel Association, about the role of segmentation in the revitalisation of the YHA. Caroline is an experienced strategist and didn't use the structure we covered in episode 2 but whether you use a tool or a more intuitive approach, the key is to be aware of the many segments that you can and do serve, and thus the range of options on offer. At the end we discuss how the segmentation approach we described in our episode might have been used at the YHA, so you have an idea about how to use this tool in practice.
Dengan sangat berat hati kata ini harus terucap di episot ini. Karena kondisi yang tak terkendali. Kami tak bisa melanjutkan lagi. Yha, kami berdua harus pamit undur diri. :(
