CrowdScience listener Po wants to know whether AI could one day replace all human jobs. And while he requests that CrowdScience continues to be hosted by people, it made presenters Caroline Steel and Anand Jagatia wonder – could an AI really present this show? To find out more about how AI models work and what they're capable of, Caroline Steel speaks to AI journalist Alex Hern from The Economist. She creates an AI version of herself with Nicky Birch, Innovation Lead for the BBC's generative AI program, and hears how the BBC is attempting to navigate the ethical use of this new technology. Anand Jagatia speaks to phonetician Prof James Kirby about how synthetic AI voices have become so convincing, as well as why they still sound slightly unnatural. And Anand and Caroline ponder whether there could ever be a place for AI presenters on the airwaves. In this episode, Konrad Olsson speaks with Stefan Ilkovics, an AI and creativity expert working across fashion, beauty, and luxury. Stefan is currently Creative Director and AI & Innovation Lead at Puig, and co-founder of the generative AI studio Naughty Society. Over the years, he has worked with brands including Cartier, Hermès, A.P.C., Chanel, Saint Laurent, Dior, Nike, and H&M.The conversation explores where AI stands in spring 2026, how it is changing creative work, and why the real challenge for brands is not speed, but direction. Ilkovics argues that AI should not be treated as a creative force in itself, but as a tool that can extend human vision, if used with discipline. He also reflects on the growing risk of sameness, the future role of creative teams, and why strong brand understanding matters more than ever in an era of unlimited content production. In this episode, we discuss:•Why AI should be treated as a tool, not a substitute for creativity•How fashion and beauty brands can create value with AI rather than simply cut costs•Why strong creative direction matters more in an age of abundant content•How brands can stay distinctive as generative AI becomes more widely adopted Hosted on Acast.
Small and medium-sized enterprises make up the backbone of Singapore’s economy, yet a new Flo Energy survey finds that 62 percent still prioritise cost over sustainability when choosing an energy provider. As Singapore pushes toward its net-zero target by 2050, what will it take to bring SMEs on board the green transition? Matthijs Guichelaar, Co-founder and CEO of Flo Energy, and Jeryl Yep, Co-founder and Innovation Lead at Semula, join the Breakfast Show to discuss what’s driving the gap between ambition and action, how SMEs can balance cost with sustainability, and the kinds of support that could help smaller firms play a stronger role in Singapore’s low-carbon future.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In our latest Leadership in Insurance Podcast episode, I sat down with Garrett Droege (SVP, Director of Innovation & Digital Risk Practice Leader at IMA Financial) for a fascinating discussion on InsurTech with some thought-provoking insights that challenge conventional thinking about insurance technology. With 20 years exclusively on the brokerage side, Garrett brings a unique perspective as a former startup founder and self-taught software developer. As both Innovation Lead and Digital Risk Practice Leader at IMA, his role sounds incredibly broad, but as Garrett says, both sides serve each other—you need wide ranging touchpoints across tech ecosystems to stay ahead in both innovation and risk.In this episode, we cover: Build vs. Buy Decision Framework: Garrett's approach is clear: build customer-facing proprietary solutions that differentiate your business and serve your customers, but make sure it works with existing technology. The POC Framework That Actually Works: Forget 12-month POCs that drag on and lose momentum. Garrett advocates for highly targeted, 45-60 day maximum POCs with clear KPIs and the right team selection upfront. His advice to founders? "You think you want a 12-month contract. You don't. Let's prove your platform works fast and furiously, or let's wait until you're ready."The Bold Take: Garrett's view on how the industry has gone about InsurTech all wrong and allowed it to become a series of Band-Aids for the real problem: antiquated core systems from the 1980s and 90s that were built before APIs even existed. The result? Frankenstein workflows requiring 7-15 platforms to complete a single task, with 80% of users still working around the technology the same way they did 20 years ago.The AI Wake-Up Call: Despite AI being "transformational unlike anything we've ever seen" (and Garrett argues it's under-hyped), its promise is severely limited without access to core data systems. Garrett stated "You could build a fully agentic AI brokerage much easier than you could reverse engineer and retrofit an existing brokerage."The Investment Landscape: With 80% of recent Y Combinator and Broker Tech Ventures companies being AI-focused InsurTech solutions, the momentum is undeniable. The dot-com parallels are real—there will be winners and losers, and consolidation is coming. What Technology Can't Replace: Despite all the transformation, some challenges remain timeless: renewal management, client communication, trust-building. As Garrett notes, these require human expertise that AI augments rather than replaces. This conversation is essential listening for anyone in insurance, InsurTech, or risk management. The future of insurance isn't just about innovation—it's about getting the foundation right first. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

That's just as true in data as in software. Focus on automation, lowering cognitive load, hiding complexity, etc. If provisioning decision specifics don't matter, why make developers deal with them? The key to a good platform is something your users _want_ to use not simply must use. That's your user experience measuring stick. When building a platform, you want to hide a lot of the things that don't matter. But when you start, especially with a platform in data mesh, there will be many things you aren't sure if they matter. That's okay, automate those decisions that don't matter as you find them but exposing them early is normal/fine.Relatedly, make that hiding easy to see through the curtain if the developer cares. Sometimes it matters to 5% of use cases but also often, engineers really want to understand the details just because they are engineers

Are your customers happy? When they interact with your brand, is it a positive or negative experience? Do you have the metrics to fully answer those questions? Anuj Bhalla brings years of expertise in customer service and analytics to this episode, showing why you need data to track when things go right and when they go wrong. Data is key to better understanding your customers and product, and part of that is being in the game long enough to gather those metrics and test them out. Some products will fail, some will succeed, and you need to be in a market long enough to understand the difference. After leading the service analytics practice at Accenture, Anuj left to forge his own path by founding serviceMob, a tech company at the intersection of customer service and analytics. He believes this field is ripe for better study and transparency, and he's here to explain why. Key TakeawaysCreating win-win situations for your business and your customers is possible, it's not an either/or. Both can be satisfied.Understanding your customers–knowing how and why they interact with your company–is key to growth. Are you tracking the customer and usage metrics that give you insight into your customers' business? As a founder, you need to be in a market long enough to learn where the pain points are so you can solve them.ResourcesAnuj's LinkedInserviceMob website Blue Collar VC by Mucker CapitalAbout Anuj is Founder & CEO of serviceMob, a Southern California technology company on a mission to fix the many inefficiencies in how consumers access and interact with companies when they need customer service. Prior to founding serviceMob, he led the Service Analytics practice for Accenture Strategy, and served as the Innovation Lead for Internet & Social Media clients in Silicon Valley. Anuj holds a Bachelors in Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MBA as a Sloan Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he concentrated on innovation and analytics at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
