Today’s episode is a little different. Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, I figured it would be nice to publish this episode that wasn’t going to come out until the other episodes I had in my queue were published. In this episode, the tables have turned. I hope you get something out of it.

Considering how much has been ingrained into us through society, culture, education, upbringing, ideology, among others, it may feel impossible to unlearn the things that no longer serve you. This video shows you a simple way to get started in the unlearning process so that you can begin the journey of learning new things that benefit you.

Hey how's it going. I'm Nic, the host of the Ekho Academy podcast. I must admit. Since I've started the 2nd iteration of the Ekho Academy podcast, I've felt completely energized and filled with purpose. For those who might not have been aware of the 1st iteration of the podcast, which I'm sure is most of you since I would get at most 10 listeners per episode, it was about my journey going through clinical depression and what I'm learned from it and about myself as I worked towards recovery. But that concept drained me. It forced me to bring up painful experiences and constantly served as a potential trigger for me to fall back into a depressive state. And as much as I care about spreading the message of mental health awareness, I definitely didn't care enough to put myself under that strain again. So I knew that if I still wanted to contribute positively to society, I needed to shift the theme of the podcast. So when I restarted the podcast in November of 2019, I wanted to focus on something I was interested in to maintain my excitement while still giving back and helping in some way. So I focused on the workplace, specifically, tools and strategies to help your career, and by extension, your life. As the podcast gathered steam and I began to find my footing. I realized that I also wanted the podcast to be an expression on how I saw the world. And that is, we are more than our careers or the jobs that we have. Life is a tapestry of shared experiences. Some good, some bad, but all lessons as we grow and become better versions of ourselves. And that is what I would like the podcast to focus on. Moving forward, the Ekho Academy podcast will focus on (1) the stories of resilience from those who've attempted or experienced challenging endeavours, and (2) subject matter experts who can help us better understand the psychology and the mindset required to be resilient. As a species, we are naturally resilient. That is a fact. So why not tap into our collective wisdom and shared experiences to better understand how we can be stronger mentally as we navigate life in the pursuit of our dreams. Welcome to Ekho Academy 2.0.
