In this episode of The Birth Lounge Podcast, HeHe sits down with Sally Hayes, founder of Matrikas, to talk about what it really takes to build a solid, supportive village for new parents. Together, they unpack the importance of continuity of care, how to create a trustworthy referral list, and the reality of navigating a maternal healthcare system that often feels broken and fragmented. Sally brings her wisdom on radical acceptance, the role of virtual care in expanding access, and why maternal health education has to start earlier than most people think. HeHe and Sally also dive into how to properly vet practitioners and what to do if client feedback uncovers red flags in your referral network. If you've ever wondered how collaboration between providers (and communities!) can change outcomes for families, this episode is for you. Tune in and discover how to build the kind of village that supports birthing people and their care teams. 00:00 Introduction and Purpose-Driven Care 01:03 Client Testimonial and Birth Lounge App 05:04 Healthcare System Challenges 06:33 Interview with Sally Hayes: Continuity of Care 08:00 Building a Referral Network 25:45 Virtual Care and Overcoming Healthcare Deserts 36:26 Personal Experiences and Advice for New Doulas 40:03 Building Connections and Championing Others 41:05 Embracing Authenticity in Your Work 41:54 Finding Your Perfect Client 42:33 Creating Unique Services and Standing Out 43:02 Building a Referral Network 45:40 Aligning Values with Referral Partners 51:59 Handling Mismatched Referrals 01:05:42 The Importance of Preemptive Education 01:11:31 Final Thoughts and Encouragement Guest Bio: Before founding Matrikas, Sally spent 20+ years as a prenatal and postpartum massage therapist, working intimately with thousands of clients through some of the most transformative chapters of their lives. Her hands-on work illuminated a critical gap in the maternal health landscape: while there are countless talented practitioners, many work alone, disconnected from one another and often unsupported. Matrikas was born out of this need for a more connected, collaborative, and community driven model of care. Through Matrikas, Sally champions relationship based referrals, cross discipline education, and building a shared village that supports birthing people and the providers who care for them. Send us a textMy guest on the podcast today is the wonderful Dawn Llewellyn. Dr Dawn Llewellyn is Associate Professor of Religion and Gender at the University of Chester. She researches and writes about gendered experiences and structures that are often silenced by patriarchal ideologies, and focuses on women's lives (inclusive) in contemporary Christianity and feminist spiritualities. Dawn herself is in a longterm relationship but she is childless by choice and has been researching, publishing, and speaking publicly about pronatalism, motherhood, and childlessness for over 13 years. She co-founded Storyhouse Childless which is a weekend long series of events at Storyhouse in Chester and she is part of the volunteer steering group that programmes the Festival — which, if you're listening to this episode the week it comes out, is happening this weekend — the 12th - 14th of September 2025 — and you can still get tickets if you fancy going, which you may well after hearing this conversation. Dawn and I talk about so many things, not least how religion, and how if your faith is a big part of your life, it can be incredibly challenging to navigate being a woman who has either chosen not to have have kids, to has ended up not having kids. I found it absolutely fascinating hearing from Dawn about the impact of religion on many women without kids as it's not something I've ever talked about on the podcast before. We also talk about the impact of pronatalism, we talk about the grief that so many women suffer around their childlessness, and Dawn also tells me all about the wonderful Storyhouse Childless festival which she pays such an important role in.03:28 Exploring Religion and Childlessness07:20 Personal Stories and Struggles15:28 Navigating Guilt and Stigma18:33 Dawn's Personal Journey27:43 Redefining Fulfillment and Success31:20 Introduction to Storyhouse Childless Festival31:45 The Inception and Growth of the Festival34:15 Festival Activities and Themes34:51 Diverse Experiences and Intersectionality36:56 Panel Discussions and Personal Stories42:36 Navigating Grief and Identity48:27 Support Systems and Coping Mechanisms57:02 Event Details and Final ThoughtsFind out more about Storyhouse Childless: https://www.storyhouse.com/seasons/storyhouse-childless/ Support the showPre-Order my book, SHINY HAPPY SINGLES (UK) / THRIVE SOLO (US & Canada) at: https://www.lucymeggeson.com/book Download my FREE PDF 'The Top 10 Answers To The Most Irritating Questions That Single People Get Asked On The Regular...& How To (Devilishly) Respond'? Welcome to this week's Blonde Intelligence. I am your host Ms. Roni and I always seek to give you exquisite cranial repertoire. What's the difference between a true friend and someone who's just using you? Can authentic friendships exist in the cutthroat world of entertainment? These questions drive our unflinching exploration of friendship dynamics across both everyday life and the high-stakes entertainment industry. We dive deep into the "frenemy" phenomenon—that peculiar relationship marked by public camaraderie and private rivalry. Think about those reality TV personalities who smile in your face while talking behind your back, or industry colleagues who support you only when cameras are rolling. The entertainment world magnifies these dynamics, as careers often depend on who you know and how you leverage those connections. When Jay-Z claims he and Puffy were merely "business acquaintances" rather than friends, it reveals volumes about how relationships function when fame and fortune are on the line. The red flags of toxic friendships deserve your attention: constant criticism designed to make you feel inadequate, visible jealousy when you succeed, manipulation that positions you as the problem, attention-seeking behavior, and perhaps most telling—one-sided support where you're always giving but rarely receiving. We explore the psychology behind these dynamics and why so many of us ignore these warning signs until it's too late. Most importantly, we discuss the power of trusting your instincts. If you're constantly questioning someone's loyalty, that uncertainty itself is your answer.Ready to evaluate your own friendships with new clarity? Listen now, and don't forget to subscribe and share your experiences in the comments. Is there someone in your life who exhibits these toxic traits? Or have you found genuine connection despite the challenges of modern relationships? We want to hear your story.Support the show

In this episode of Breakaway Wealth Podcast, Jim sits down with Jill Schulman—US Marine veteran and positive psychology expert—to break down the science of bravery and why action - not motivation - moves outcomes. They map a practical path to confront fear, build daily reps, and apply courage to business and money decisions. 3 Key Takeaways: Bravery reframed: not heroics, but voluntary action in the presence of fear toward a worthwhile goal; most modern fear is social (failure, rejection, embarrassment), amplified by a comfort-first culture. Action over fear: use graded exposure and “mastery experiences” (Bandura) to build self-efficacy; schedule the hard task early, track behaviors not outcomes, and let consistency—not motivation—carry the work. Environment and systems: build a “brave tribe” to leverage conformity effects; apply PERMA (Positive emotion, Engagement/flow, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment) to raise performance; treat early failures as required feedback on the way to results. Thanks to Jill for outlining a clear model for building bravery and putting it to work! If this episode moved you to act, take one small step today and track it. What if your parish's faith formation is creating consumer Catholics instead of disciples? In this episode of EquipCast, I sit down with my team to unpack what faith formation is really supposed to do—and why so many parishes get stuck. We talk about the difference between just teaching information and actually forming hearts and habits. You'll hear why small groups matter, how to spot a healthy ministry, and what it takes to move people from simply learning their faith to living it—and then going on mission. We talk about launching apostolates, forming others, and becoming the kind of disciples who don't just consume content but live it out with joy and purpose. Plus, we share some honest stories, practical tools (like the Discernment Rosary), and plenty of laughs. Summary Amy introduces Dr. Adam Rosen, an orthopedic surgeon and author of "OR Confidential: Confessions of a Gen X Surgeon," highlighting the book's exploration of the challenges and mental health struggles faced by physicians, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. She emphasizes the book's relevance to both medical professionals and patients seeking to understand the physician's journey, its consequences, and recovery . 00:00:02 Dr. Rosen shares his lifelong aspiration to become an orthopedic surgeon, detailing his training and career until his mental health crisis in 2023, which led to a year-long absence from work. He reflects on the initial desire to help people that drives many into medicine, contrasting it with the systemic pressures that erode empathy and compassion over time . 00:01:38 The discussion shifts to the impact of COVID-19 on surgical teams and patient care. Dr. Rosen describes the efficiency and synergy of his pre-COVID team, where experienced members anticipated his needs, leading to streamlined procedures. He contrasts this with the challenges of working with traveling staff during the pandemic, who, despite being highly paid, lacked familiarity with the hospital's systems and procedures, causing frustration among permanent staff . 00:04:47 Dr. Rosen elaborates on the emotional toll of striving for perfection in an environment of constant staffing and supply chain issues. He recounts his hypervigilant state, driven by the need to ensure optimal patient care amidst systemic challenges, which ultimately led to his mental health breakdown.
