Brian Haney has watched it happen more times than he can count. A client comes to him with what looks like a straightforward financial situation, but six months later, they're calling his office feeling completely overwhelmed. Not because the plan was wrong, but because something fundamental was missing. In Brian's case, one example was a recently retired client who had plenty of money and a solid income plan. She should have been celebrating, but instead she was paralyzed. The issue wasn't her portfolio or her budget—it was that she'd never actually managed her own spending before. Her late husband had handled it, then her kids stepped in to help. Now she was on her own and terrified to spend a dime of her own money. This conversation digs into what happened next and why it changed how Brian thinks about partnerships in financial services. We talk about the moment he realized he wasn't the right person to help her with this specific challenge, and what it felt like to tell a client she needed to work with someone else.Brian shares his perspective on why some advisors still operate in silos while others actively build their bench of trusted professionals. He explains what makes a coach outreach actually worth his time versus the messages that get ignored, and why he thinks the future of financial services looks more like a law firm than the current model. And we explore his four financial concern areas framework and why he believes most people in the financial industry suffer from the same training gap. Plus, you'll hear about the million-dollar-earning surgeon who couldn't get approved for a loan and what that taught Brian about the difference between earning money and handling it.If you've been thinking about reaching out to build partnerships with others in the financial industry but aren't sure how to start, or if you're curious about what collaboration actually looks like when it's working well, this conversation gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how these relationships really develop.Links & Resources:Ultimate Growth GuideJoin the Facebook groupBrian HaneyFinancial Guy PodcastKey Takeaways:“I'm not the person to help you with that, or at least I'm not the best person to help you with that.” Learning to say this to clients isn't a weakness, it's the foundation of excellent service.Stop trying to be the expert in everything. Just like law firms have specialists, financial practices work better when you master your lane and partner for everything else. The million-dollar surgeon with terrible credit proves this truth: It doesn't matter how much money you make if you don't know how to handle it.When reaching out to potential partners, lead with curiosity, not your pitch. “I'm really interested in understanding what a day in your life is all about” beats any sales script.Blue ocean thinking: There are plenty of fish in the sea for all of us. Focus on adding value to the marketplace instead of competing for the same clients.Your clients should use you as a resource to find other professionals. When they call asking for referrals to specialists you don't know, that's a sign you're doing partnership right.Four financial domains everyone needs help with: daily money management, major purchases, planning for the future, and planning for the unexpected. No single professional can master all four—and they shouldn't try.

In this episode, Mardi Winder-Adams has an uplifting conversation with Stephanie McPhail, who is not only a certified crisis counselor but also someone who has been through the highs and lows of divorce. Stephanie shares how, despite looking like she had it all together as an accomplished teacher and professional, she was struggling behind closed doors in a difficult and even abusive marriage. Her story will resonate with anyone who's ever felt isolated, embarrassed, or stuck in the idea that they must keep up appearances while holding things together.Stephanie talks about how easy it is to get trapped in comparison, whether it's looking at others in equally unhealthy relationships or scrolling through social media and seeing everyone's happy posts while you're feeling lost or overwhelmed. She discusses the pressure, especially on high-achievers, to pretend everything is fine, even when it's not, simply because opening up can feel risky or shameful. Mardi adds from her experience as a divorce coach and advocate, reinforcing how common these feelings are, and they both agree that the secrecy and pressure to handle everything alone can make things so much harder than they need to be.They also break down some of the traps people fall into during and after divorce, like waiting until things are legally finalized before reaching out for support, or expecting your lawyer to guide you through emotional healing, when you may need someone who understands the whole picture. Stephanie introduces the Divorce Support Network, a practical resource she co-founded that matches people with specifically vetted professionals, from financial advisors and therapists to real estate agents and mechanics. The goal is to make sure nobody has to fumble through the process alone, so you can spend less time worrying about where to turn and more time focusing on your own well-being and future.Throughout the conversation, there's a reassuring message: however you're feeling right now, you're not alone, and it is possible to create a new, fulfilling chapter after divorce. With the right kind of help and community, the process doesn't have to be isolating or overwhelming. Let's talk about what it really means to take care of yourself—not just on the surface, but deep in your bones. In this episode of Operation Be, I'm joined by Dr. Jason Hamed—a brilliant mind in the world of chiropractic care and functional medicine, and someone who's played a massive role in my own wellness journey. But this isn't just about back pain or posture. It's about the structure that holds you up—physically, emotionally, and energetically. We talk about the hidden ways chronic illness can shape your mindset, and how true healing goes far beyond prescriptions or quick fixes. Dr. Jason shares how intentional care, real connection, and hiring with heart (yes, even in your business) can radically shift the way we operate as leaders, partners, and humans. We also dive into: ✨ The emotional weight behind physical pain ✨ How your environment either supports or sabotages your healing ✨ What makes a practitioner actually effective ✨ And yes—a hilarious moment where my fiancé decided to “test” Dr. Jason for himself  This conversation is a reminder that healing isn't linear. It's layered. And sometimes, the biggest breakthroughs happen when we stop pushing and start listening.

Psychiatrist Carolyn Rodriguez studies hoarding disorder and says that all of us have attachments to our possessions. But for many, these attachments can disrupt daily life and even pose health risks. For those with loved ones who struggle with hoarding disorder, she says treatments exist, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Lately, she's been studying how virtual reality can augment CBT through virtual discarding practice and ways brain stimulation may improve symptoms. But, Rodriguez says, never underestimate the value of empathy for those in need of help, as she tells host Russ Altman on this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast.Have a question for Russ? You've probably heard the phrase, “It takes a village”, but what does that actually look like when you're choosing to become a mom on your own?Today's guest is the perfect example of why becoming a single mother by choice doesn't mean you have to raise your child alone. You'll hear exactly what it can look like to build a deeply supportive village, both before and after becoming a solo mom.In this episode, I'm joined by Sige, a psychotherapist and solo mother by choice who brings a wealth of wisdom from both her personal and professional life. Sige shares how a low AMH diagnosis and a breakup led her to pursue solo motherhood through IUI, and how she beat the odds by conceiving on her first try. But it's her unique approach to communal living and her commitment to building intentional support systems that truly make her story stand out. Together, we talk about what it takes to raise a child without a partner, not by doing it all alone, but by choosing interdependence, community, and creativity. In this episode on building a strong support system before and during solo motherhood, we discuss:How a low ovarian reserve shifted Sige's timeline and led her to IUI;The emotional pivot from partnership to solo parenting; What it's like to conceive on your first IUI attempt, despite low fertility markers; The practical and emotional benefits of communal living;Navigating dating and boundaries as a solo mom;How to create a village of support when raising a child alone;Introducing donor conception and donor siblings to your child;Reclaiming creativity and rediscovering yourself after early motherhood; And so much more.Connect with Sige WeismanYou can learn more about Sige's therapy work on her website.Connect with her artwork on Instagram, @sigeweisman.art or at www.sigeweisman.com.Resources mentioned in this episode:Book: How to Conceive Naturally: And Have a Healthy Pregnancy after 30
