Listeners of Tough Conversations with David Wood that love the show mention:I was recently interviewed about my new book by Kathryn Thompson, host of Be the Sought After Entrepreneur. We had an exciting conversation about my book, Mouse in the Room, and I went over some key points on being the bad-ass leader people want to follow! We discuss: How to have radical personal transformation. The RIGHT way to say what's on your mind so you don't have regrets. Your roadmap to truth. How to take advantage of the 3D Process. Create the space for what's truly meant to come to you. A request for help! If it resonates, we would love for you to be part of the mouse naming revolution! Here's how you can do that: Get the book at Mouse in the Room or Amazon. (Psst! There are some amazing bonuses for you!) If you think Mouse in the Room deserves 5 stars, please leave a review on Amazon. Post on social media that you got the book. Mouse naming is hard to do in isolation and easier if everyone does it! Let your friends have the opportunity to mouse name as well. We have some awesome promotional content and assets you can use on our site. Kathryn Thompson is an award-winning marketing and communications expert, and the Founder of Creatively Owned.

There's a dark or shadow side to everyone, and often that dark side shows up when we're emotional or have charge with someone. The key is to heal that 'shadow' and communicate with compassion and respect - as difficult as that may be. In this episode, I interview Matthew Mitchell, a transformational speaker and coach I think may be even bolder than I am with speaking his truth. We talk about: -Shadow sides and what shows up in his shadow -What is the shadow and who has one -What made me trust and respect him more -The dangers of not speaking with compassion -Why it's important to speak with love -What I realized was missing from my Tough Conversations model -How to access love, respect and compassion even when you have charge -The importance of knowing where your lines are drawn -The power of modeling behavior -How not to vilify the other person and more. Are you able to speak with love and compassion when you're in disagreement with someone? I'd love to hear about a conversation you had with love - or one that you wish you did! What do you do when someone stands you up? Do you address it? Or... Don’t rock the boat. Don’t make waves. Don’t bring up something that might be awkward for both people and could go horribly wrong. Do these seem like familiar strategies? Unfortunately, staying silent can harm the relationship. I deliberately recorded this episode while very sick in bed; barely moving. Many spiritual paths teach us to practice gratitude and appreciation. My teacher always said “What is the maximum potential of this moment?” Byron Katie might say “Love what is”. Well that seems all fine and dandy for minor annoyances in life, but what about when you’re truly suffering? Well I hit record and then gave it by best attempt – to truly enjoy my experience of being incredibly sick. This role play may just have saved a marriage. Super tricky conversation where the participant’s husband accuses her of cheating, and she’s worried he’ll ask her to leave. I was surprised by the amount of love and tenderness that emerged in the role play – and the participant seemed to shed quite a few tears. Outcome? She left with a completely new, and loving, way to approach the conversation. Listen to the end to find out how it actually turned out when she approached her husband. *** For show notes and past guests, please visit http://playforreal.life/podcast Sign up for David’s email newsletter and download the 4-Step Tough Conversations blueprint at http://playforreal.life/blueprint See if you qualify for a free discovery session to explore coaching with David at http://playforreal.life/coaching Join the free weekly zoom call to role-play your tough conversations at http://playforreal.life/zoomregister 70% of employees are avoiding a tough conversation. Listen in to hear why people aren't talking to each other in families, communities, and corporations - and how to break the cycle! Why Jason focuses on startups David’s unusual connection with Jason Why it’s critical to override our natural instinct – both in life generally and specifically when it comes to tough conversations. Pause, make a new choice. Why Jason believes humanity is in trouble. How Jason makes life and death decisions, and how it helps him not freeze in essential moments. No response IS a response. How we humans are conflict averse and how it causes us problems. Jason’s vision for the world. Ninja tip: Speak to someone ELSE about your difficult conversation first, to release charge. Then the actual conversation will be much smoother. Plus, they can listen for clarity and power. How Jason’s family stopped talking to each other because they didn’t know how to solve problems. We learn: – The classic children’s story that inspired her to escape – The difficult decision she had to make from the very beginning – What happened when she put a gun to her head, aged 11 – How many attempts it took to escape – Her help from the outside world – Being blindsided by betrayal, and … – How she’s now challenging the supreme court! Everyone wants the short route to success, right? In this excerpt from his talk at my live CoachMBA event, Jack Canfield talks about why some people see success and achieve their goals and why others never do. Jack explains: How responsibility can change your life How much control you actually have over your outcomes Blaming others vs 100% responsibility The best formula for achieving success What we avoid that makes success improbable – or even impossible! David Wood interviews Byron Katie on how handle the negative self talk of “I’m a failure”, “I’m going to fail”, and “What if I fail?”. Specifically, she takes David through a situation he’s freaking about: “Jack Canfield is coming to speak at my life event; what if I can’t sell any tickets and Jack turns up to talk to three people?”. Where do you feel like you HAVE failed? Katie dives into the worst situation possible for David, to investigate if it’s true: “I’m a failure”. What’s the impact of that negative thought? Who would you be without that thought? How do you treat Jack when you believe this thought? How can you turn around “I’m a failure”? BYRON KATIE QUOTES “I don’t know how it gets any more successful than that” “It’s a fearless life” “The worst that can happen, and the best that can happen, are the same event” “If you have something of value you offer it, and people come or they don’t.
