Matthew 7:24-28The Sermon on the Mount ends with people in awe. More than just at the beauty of Jesus' words, but at the gravity surrounding Him—the Authority He carries, the Life He is. His final Word rings out as a definitive Statement of Truth: Life is in Me.If Life is in you, if you are built on The Rock, then you will know a Life that is unhindered and unassailable. Everything else is burning up to reveal the always remaining Truth.
If Life and Hope are evidence of fruit in a Christ follower, so are Cross and Glory. No question, cross is a familiar, but difficult word. But perhaps, in bending to take up our own cross and carry it each day, this is where we begin to understand true glory. Not ours, not glory of our own knowledge, hands, or will, but the inexpressible glory of God. Listen in.

If Life is a Simulation - How that Worldview Affects your Mindset. You've seen the Elon Musk tweet: "If you don't think there's at least a tiny chance that you are an NPC...you are an NPC."Everyone is talking about NPCs. Some people consider themselves as the hero in a video game or Simulation and everyone else is an NPC.Perpend is back and we talk about Simulation theory - that life is a simulation or we are in someone's else's simulation. And how that worldview and NPC thinking affect your mindset. We talk about NPC thinking and its root in Transhumanism and Gnosticism.Perpend: "I read somewhere that maybe the NPCs are really something to be admired because they are being very efficient with their life because they're not expending any energy, time, or dialogue on anything that doesn't matter to them.Even the NPC in the game is doing that. The NPC in the game is here to give you the key if you say the right password or you do the right thing. So it will not do anything outside that. So it's actually being the most efficient and therefore it is just preserving energy and being a good citizen."Episode website: https://thrivingthefuture.com/npcSponsor:Elderberry cuttings and comfrey crowns and root cuttings are now available at Grow Nut Trees - https://grownuttrees.comWe are having a contest drawing in Feb for a copy of Roxanne Ahern's book "Holistic Homesteading". What if this world is a world where immortals come to take a break from the tedium of immortality? It's tempting to say ‘why would a god need to take a break?' Well that's your definition and your projection of what YOU think a god is supposed to be-and then you expect god/consciousness to fit your definition of how it/she/they/their are supposed to be. Direct quotes from this episode: “If you can get bored then why can't God? As above, so below. You were created in THEIR image, so if you can get bored, so can the gods” “If [Life] is a dream, then doesn't that mean that YOU are sleeping? And if you are sleeping, then doesn't that mean that you are a god asleep?” “If outside of form, you feel all one and connected to the universe; all loving, all knowing and capable of anything, then outside of form, you are god.” “The moment we ‘other' [and demonise] we make demons out of our selves.” “Evil stems from ignorance of and not knowing your true nature.” #philosophy #technophilosophy #nonduality #alanwatts #Buddhism #hinduisim #westworld #advaita Youroneblackfriend.com

If Life is a School, then ultimately we're here to learn lessons. And how do we know if we've mastered a lesson? The Universe inevitably has to offer us a test. So how can we check in with ourselves and work out with we're facing tests or opportunities? In this episode, Kate goes over three "rules for life" that are from Dr. Cherie Carter Scott. She then offers three areas of inquiry from Lacy Phillips (from To Be Magnetic) that can help us really check in with ourselves and see whether we're facing a test, an opportunity or possibly even a bridge to the future we desire. After losing yet another family member to domestic violence I wanted to continue to relationship series to perpetuate the message for young girls and even grown women to take their time when they are dating, and not rush into a relationship before giving it enough time to mature. I had a chance to speak with a young man who voluntarily shared his thoughts on the subject. Friends, this is a massive step outside my comfort zone… I’ve decided to start implementing videos with some of my Daily Guinness episodes on the podcast. I’m not sure what it’s going to turn into but like all things, it has to start somewhere. So, to toast the one thing we must all experience in order to grow… the death of comfort… let’s talk about my new theory of “Micro Death” and what that means when living a curious life because, If Life’s Not Binary, Why Would Death Be? If Life is Gouda... Why are we talking about cheese? Cheese production is about something larger than whether you throw a good cheese party or not. It’s larger than whether a single cheese shop in your trendy neighbourhood stays open or closes. Cheese is a multi-billion dollar industry that ties together networks of people across the world. It is a commodity that sustains us, and makes us into certain kinds of people: someone who likes Kraft Singles, or gruyere. It's just one moment in a larger and growing world of critical food studies, in which scholars across the world understand food as a larger production of culture and identity. Please join us as Professor Kevin Lewis O’Neill sits down with Professor Ken MacDonald––a founding member of the Culinaria Research Centre, Toronto’s new hub for food studies. -- This podcast is sponsored by the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies at the University of Toronto. The world was moved a few years back when Cherie Carter-Scott published her bestselling book, If Life is a Game, These are the Rules. It is a simple, but profound rendition of what we can expect on the journey. Not knowing the simplified rendition of why we are here, and what we can expect can keep us running into the walls we find everywhere in our consciousness. But Carter-Scott's book provides us with a template for living that will not soon be forgotten once it is absorbed. And we are going to be talking with her today about these rules for the game of life. So, if you are wondering what the heck is going on—tune in. You are not going to want to miss this exciting and powerful show.

Depression. In ancient Mesopotamia, they called it demonic possession. For Hippocrates it was an excess of black bile. In the Renaissance the culprit was witchcraft. In the Enlightenment it was a weakness in temperament. Abraham Lincoln had a tendency for melancholy. Georgia O’Keeffe often wept uncontrollably. For William James it was a crisis of meaning. For Winston Churchill it was a black dog. I too have suffered from spells of depression in my life and so it is an honor to offer this conversation with my very own doctor, David Rabin. Dr Rabin is a board-certified psychiatrist, a translational PhD neuroscientist, and an inventor. Dr. Rabin co-created Apollo, the first scientifically-validated wearable that improves focus, sleep, and access to meditative states. Along with Rael Cahn MD, PhD (USC), Ben Kelmendi MD (Yale), Joe Tafur MD, and MAPS, Dr Rabin is organizing the world’s largest psychedelic study: the Modern Spirit Epigenetics Project. On the podcast Dr. Rabin addresses any listener currently experiencing depression (:12). We talk about the myth of the “chemical imbalance” (:19) and how psychedelics interrupt neural pathways that associate depression with identity (:32). We cover preparation and integration (1:06), nutrition to support mood health (1:24) and finish with ways to help a loved one experiencing a mental health crisis (1:33). Dr Rabin is a psychiatrist and he’s my psychiatrist, however he is not your psychiatrist and so this episode is intended for entertainment purposes only. We hope you get something amazing and meaningful out of it but no podcast is a substitute for good therapy. If you are experiencing depression please reach out for support. Also it’s important to mention that while we tackle the myth of chemical imbalance and the overprescription of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) we are by no means saying that depression isn’t real. It is real and it can be terrifying. But there is always hope. If Life is a Festival, we have to learn to dance with the black dog sometimes. Do you feel compelled to defend yourself when you feel you've been done wrong? When you enter a new situation, do you feel you need to prove yourself? In this, her 24th episode, Suzette concludes Season One with an honest examination of what motivates our responses. Sharing from her own experience, Suzette raises the most important question: WHO ARE YOU? Not the you who feels threatened or the you who feels he or she has something to prove, but the you whose presence requires no validation. In her thoughtful and penetrating style, Suzette explains why: the who behind who you are has nothing to prove, but everything to be the invitation to the room qualifies you to be in it the struggle isn't with others as much as it is with yourself writing a different definition of what makes you enough is essential ...and much more More About Suzette On March 17th, Suzette started her podcaster journey. At the time, she knew nothing about podcasting except she wanted a platform where she could speak to a broader audience. Everyone who has downloaded, subscribed and commented have been an integral part of her journey. Together, you've downloaded this podcast 943 times! Not too shabby for Season One! She's taking a break for a few months, but look for Season Two the Spring of 2020. In the interim, she and her team will be talking to subscribers and listeners to hear about what they enjoyed, what they didn't, and what topics they'd like to see featured as well as exploring other ways to make this podcast even more relevant. Things that made me go hmmm "I created this situation because I didn't know my value so I let my insecurity bully me into submitting." "When you're trapped in a mindset of performance, you don't really know the difference between the performer you and the Being you." "You are not what you do, you are the brilliance behind it." "When someone asks 'who are you,' it's how you answer the 'I am' that makes all the difference." "The struggles as well as the celebrations are to help you to get clearer and clearer about the everything that you bring into this life space." "If Life offers you the seat, Life has already decided that you belong. It's your work to find out why Life offered you the seat. Because if you don't do the work to find out why Life offered you the seat, you will not fully own your space." The Older you get, the more serious Life and Death seems to become… More people fade away, pass away. Sometimes after sickness, sometimes all of sudden. Either way it’s not easy to process the death of people that you are somehow ‘connected with’. It’s a true pain when realizing you won’t receive anymore e-mail from the person that passed away, or the person who died will not be featured in a new series or movie anymore. If Life is all about the renewal and refresh of the memory, than we have to take life more serious than ever! The Afterlife doesn’t mean that you ‘will be back’ in another life as the same person you are now. The Afterlife can refer to ‘you’ that is becoming another ‘you’ without the ‘knowing’ of the current ‘you’ that is ‘I’. One thing is for sure: the music that scores today’s episode is likely to survive us all. Next generations will be able to listen to Spacemusic 11.14 and all included music even 100 years from now. Unless there’s someone taking care of our archives and the technology we call ‘RSS’. We better start documenting our piece of work and think of ways to let this beacon continue for a long time…. [New Year, New You] Day 21: If Life is a Game, Here Are the Rules Life is a game. Unfortunately, it’s a game that has become so steeped in confusion and seriousness that few people even realize they’re playing a game anymore. It’s as if we all started playing a game of Monopoly, but then instead of being the player, we started to believe we were the pawn. When we get stuck on the “jail” square, or experience other losses and difficulties, we forget that it’s just a game--that we can just wait our turn and roll the dice and hope for another chance around the board. Life calls to us to roll the dice, every day. Every day there is a new sun that rises and a fresh start to begin again. Every hour the hands of the clock make another spin of the dial. In an ideal situation, you continue to improve your ability, responsibility and influence over life. The more you know, the better life gets. Each moment, when we choose to allow it, is another opportunity for us to press the reset button and start again with more hope and a sense of adventure, keeping our eyes on our goals. How much fun would a game of “Snakes and Ladders” be if there were no snakes? Who would bother playing soccer if there was no opponent? In overcoming the obstacles that stand between us and our goals, we can have a spirit of adventure and play much like we would in playing any game. Life’s obstacles have become overwhelming because of the degree of confusion and misinformation that has prevented us from understanding the rules of the game, or identifying a clearly defined playing field on which to play. So in the interests of creating a great new adventure and overcoming life’s obstacles with more confidence, I’d like to introduce you to a few elements of the game of life, so we can get busy playing! You can catch the full blog post here.
A few years ago I was consulting with a telecom startup. One day the chairmen of the board (and primary investor) called me to ask a quick and simple question. “Dale will you take over as CEO?” I did not answer immediately - but somewhat out of obligation felt I needed to step up and take the reigns. I really enjoyed the people and the company. I became VERY busy. But one day I looked in the mirror found myself asking “Why am I doing this? I hate telecom?” Have you ever looked in the mirror and asked yourself a similar question? "Finding Your Why" by Mikael Kristenson is licensed under CC BY 2.0 Click to Listen Ask Why Often Now I have learned to ask WHY often. The question brings clarity. But more importantly to you - I find I am often asking my coaching clients WHY. Not only do I need to know they have clarity - but knowing their why helps me direct the conversation. Recently a good friend of mine shared his WHY with me. He called it his LIFE model. Wow - it hit home with me - and apparently with many others. The LIFE Model I forget when Jonathan Milligan of Blogging Your Passion first shared his LIFE model - but it stuck with me. Jonathan helps people who want to become full time bloggers. His LIFE model was needed to help him help others - but it goes so much further than that. I think it describes almost everyone I have met - certainly everyone I have coached. LIFE stands for Lifestyle, Influence, Financial, and Effort. L - Lifestyle: Jonathan wanted to be able to work where he wanted, when he wanted, and doing the things he wanted to do. If he wanted to work at a coffee shop today - no one was stopping him. If he decided to take some time with the kids today - he did not want to have to ask for time off. Even better, if he decides to take a month in the mountains, he can work from there. I - Influence: Jonathan wanted to impact the lives of others in a positive way. F - Financial: He was tired of getting a paycheck where he did not control the flow. He could at best expect two small bonuses in the year - a tax refund and/or a bonus. Otherwise, he was tied to a number all year he could not change. While having a steady paycheck is nice, it offers you no flexibility or control. E - Effort: Jonathan is a hard worker. He wants to enjoy working hard. And he wanted to have something that drove him to work hard. What is Your Model for Why? When I saw his model I just knew he had described almost everyone I know. Clearly I was right. Him sharing his model has had a huge impact on his audience on Blogging Your Passion. If LIFE works for you, then you need to get clear on the details. What matters to me and Jonathan might not matter to you - but from my experience this is going to be very close. What would you like to change? Your career? Your income? Those you serve? The beginning of making progress is a clear view of where you are now vs. where you want to be. Questions To Clarify Your Why What does your tomorrow look like? Take a moment (or more) and decide. Think about what you really want from your work, your money, and your time. Take 5 minutes and answer these questions? 1. Who do you want to serve? (If you are a Christian or of other faith the correct answer here is not Christ or God - that is a given.) 2. What are the constraints in your life that are in your way as you try to accomplish #1 above? 3. What are the challenges where you work today? Sometimes it is easier to support another who is doing what you are called to do. Spiritual maturity defined is just, being in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing. Second best may possibly be another name for missing the mark. If Life is your opportunity to learn to love, Do not let it pass you by. Rebbe T.
