Guitarist and singer Becca Steven's resume includes stints with the adventurous jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding, electrifying trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, and hip-hop inflected jazz vocalist José James. She's part of New York's new music scene, and has contributed to a compilation of Laura Nyro covers. So you might guess that The Becca Stevens Band would not be your typical indie rock group. And you'd be right. The band's 2015 debut record is called Perfect Animal, and it's full of shimmering, strangely augmented chords; angular melodic swoops and dives; and rhythms that catch the ear but don't settle where you expect. There are also breathtaking forays into pop and even R&B, including covers of songs by Frank Ocean and Usher. The result is a pulsing, personal experience, guided by Stevens' singular voice and vision, that is the most exciting entry on her resume yet. Becca Stevens and her band perform in-studio. He writes about the sophisticated technology and a so-called predictive policing system in his new book, "The Perfect Police State." And, trees in neighborhoods all over the mid-Atlantic U.S. are being choked by fast growing, non-native vines. As Jacob Fenston of WAMU reports, a new study says freeing trees from these invasive vines is an essential tool to fight climate change.

Olga Tufnell (1905–85) was a British archaeologist working in Egypt, Cyprus, and Palestine in the 1920s and 1930s, a period often described as a golden age of archaeological discovery. Tufnell achieved extraordinary success for an “amateur” archaeologist and as a woman during a time when the field of professional archaeology was heavily dominated by men, typically with university training. Olga Tufnell's 'Perfect Journey': Letters and Photographs of an Archaeologist in the Levant and Mediterranean (UCL Press, 2021), edited by Jack Green and Ros Henry, presents, for the first time, letters and photographs by Tufnell primarily during her pioneering work in the 1920s and 1930s. From the Palestine Exploration Fund archive, these records not only shed light on the discoveries made by Tufnell and her colleagues, but are also a window into the past, often narrating contemporary events, and revealing a great deal about the way in which Olga Tufnell viewed the rapidly changing, often contentious world around her. With expert commentary and annotation by the editors that situate these records in their historical and archaeological contexts, this book is a crucial addition to the growing bibliography on the history of archaeology around the world, and the Levant specifically. This text can be read well as an archaeological account, a historical primary source reader, or a travelogue from a past age. Third-generation sustainability superstar Alex Shadrow is our guest. She's an entrepreneur who says it's in her DNA to solve the fashion waste crisis! Better known by her moniker "Sustainabae" — a name she certainly lives up to — Alex tells us the story of her eco-warrior family, how she became a member of Al Gore's Climate Reality Leadership Corps, her passion for fashion and why being the COO of resale website List Perfectly is a dream come true. Also, she's an Instagram star with some 65K followers! But before heading over to her IG, hear what she has to say. There's a strong case to be made that resale and secondary sales can significantly reduce carbon footprints, not just with clothes, but all types of items — and that's where ListPerfectly comes in: an e-commerce solution for sellers to crosspost products on a bunch of major channels (i.e. Poshmark, Mercari, Instagram, Shopify, eBay etc.). We also discuss Alex's past startup ventures, the challenges women entrepreneurs face, her year of not buying anything new, why Adidas beats Nike and the next step in her professional journey.
The shift to electric vehicles. Capital gains tax concerns. And digital retailing challenges. Buy-sell consultant Mark Johnson weighs whether now is the right time for dealers to buy or sell.

Do we really need legal documents? And if so what are they? When do we need them? Who should use them? And what happens if I don't? There is a lot of incredible info in today's episode and you may want to listen a few times. But we will have the notes and a checklist for you. I have finally started my book reading list for 2021 with two novels that are arguably very different for me. The first book is "Nomadland," which is the subject of a new film on nomad life that is getting a lot of attention. The second is the dystopian novel “This Perfect Day” by Ira Leven, who is also the author of Rosemary’s Baby, a horrifying journey into a future. On the face of it the two genres of novels don't seem to have much in common, but when you dig a bit deeper I think they do. On today's episode of Rolling Home we'll discuss why. The COVID-19 pandemic is contributing to rising hunger in Maine, and at the same time much of the state’s seafood harvest is struggling to find a market. Now a new program is addressing both challenges at once.
Getting stuck in perfection is exhausting and yet so often we're in a compulsive cycle to do it! It's a buffer that our minds created to try to keep us from experiencing the pain of rejection. This episode goes deeper into how this pattern happens and why. Awareness of this is literally half the battle! Plus, some tips on how to change this frustrating habit in your life. I share some real examples of how the hustle of perfection drained me and also a recent example of how one question you can ask yourself can help you co-create with God when you're willing to shift out of chasing perfection.
At the midpoint of the season, the Seahawks are 6-2, but they found another way to lose in frustrating fashion. According to Adam, this was even more frustrating than the loss to the Cardinals, because the team played whatever the opposite is of complementary football. Instead, each phase of the game contributed to something that made it more difficult for another phase. Whether it was giving up a big return on special teams, untimely turnovers, or making a terrible decision on defense when it mattered most, each phase found a way to contribute to the loss. But it's not just on the players, or on the coaches, there is blame to share throughout the organization for some of what we're seeing on the field. Fortunately, for a defense that seems to have most of their difficulty with mobile quarterbacks, there aren't many left on the schedule. Jared Goff is the next man up to face this Seahawks defense. Can the team make the necessary adjustments based on issues we've seen in the recent loss to the Bills and some of the previous games as well? Will an improved offensive line be able to slow down Aaron Donald? But maybe the most fun matchup will be seeing D.K. Metcalf going up against Jalen Ramsey. The last team to face the Los Angeles Rams was the Miami Dolphins. Not only did Miami win that game, but they also beat the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Sam Marcoux, of the podcast Welcome to Perfectville, joins the show to take a victory lap for their "perfect record" in the NFC West. Also in the second half of the show, we remembered to announce the latest winner of the Tiny Piece of Seahawks Stuff, but we forgot to bring the latest trivia question (even though Jeremy explained the origin of all the work that went into it). Congratulations go out to Iupati Mouth for the win in the pick'em league this week. Philip Rivers and a Seahawks petitioner land in the Do Better segment this week. While a small town gets cute in their political efforts and our veterans earn Better at Life honors. Pick'em League Home at CBS Sports Post 'Go Hawks' in the comments for the latest

Kansas writer Sarah Smarsh's 2018 book, "Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth," was a New York Times best-seller and a finalist for the National Book Award. It earned her high-profile invitations, such as introducing civil rights icon Dolores Huerta at the 2019 Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago. "It's been very humbling to know that folks who kind of have their hands on the levers of power saw something worth reading in the book," Smarsh said. Her new book is about a very different but perhaps more powerful figure: "She Come By It Natural: Dolly Parton and the Women Who Lived her Songs," is out this week from Simon & Schuster. "I was raised by women who didn't go to college, they never studied feminist theory, but they embodied feminism's tenets, even if they were averse to the term because it had been somehow weaponized by, you know, political forces," Smarsh said. "And it struck me that Dolly Parton was a was a perfect model to explain that."

Liverpool may have first made a move for Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis – but Kostas Tsimikas is the ‘perfect candidate’ to provide cover and competition for Andy Robertson. That’s according to Josh Williams and David Hughes, who dig deep into the stats to look at why Norwich’s decision to turn down a big-money bid for Lewis may actually prove to be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool - unless it was their intention to always go for Tsimikas... After discussing an interesting theory, Josh and Dave look at the type of left-back the Reds are getting and explain why, unlike a number of Jurgen Klopp signings, the Greece international could fit in straightaway at Anfield. We read and email about owning chickens and Falen talks about a well-known influencer that said they had the answers which ended up not being true.
To her many Instagram followers, it seemed like the 'Young Mummy' Sophie Cachia had a pretty rosy life. She had a successful influencer career and pyjama business that she had built off her Young Mummy blog, which she'd started after marrying an AFL player called Jarryd Cachia and having the first of their two kids at just 22 years old. But like most things on social media, there was a different story happening behind the scenes. Sophie was starting to question the life and identity she'd built for herself over the years. All of it. So, she opened up her marriage. She started dating women. And everything changed. Recently, Sophie was listening to Mia's interview with Glennon Doyle and nodding along furiously. It was a voice memo that made this interview happen.
