On September 1, 2024, Mark O'Brien, 55, a citizen of both Ireland and the UK, will attempt two Guinness World Records in one day, tackling two swim sprint challenges in two countries to become the record holder for the fastest swims for someone with Motor Neurone Disease. His first attempt will be a 50m Freestyle in Luton, UK, at Inspire Luton Sports Village at 08:50 AM, where he looks to beat a time of 38.92 seconds. He will then travel to Ireland where his second attempt will be a 100m Freestyle at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin at 16:30 PM where he will look to beat a time of one minute 39.88 seconds. This is not the first time Mark has challenged himself to such a degree, having previously set the world record for the longest non-stop, unaided open water swim by a person with MND around the same time the previous year, with a distance of 6.8 miles (11km). Diagnosed with MND in March 2022, he was inspired by the likes of Rob Burrow and Alex Gibson to raise awareness and encourage increased funding for MND charities. Mark's mission is to make a difference with the time he has left and never give up until his last breath. With his condition deteriorating, Mark is determined to try and still make a difference. All funds raised will be equally distributed between The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA), The UK Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), and Challenging MND. Donations are welcome via his GiveWheel fundraising page. Mark spoke to John Mulligan on Saturday Sport.
We head to the HQ of one of Australia's best new up and coming Hot Sauce companies as Chef Jibba tries to make "Hot Sauce Great Again!!" NO CRYING IN THE COOLROOM is a chef industry podcast dedicated to the milk crate conversations, kitchen battle-scars, and shared psychological traumas of a lifetime lived in hospitality. Tim Kershaw - a comedian; and Lachie Sheridan - a food content creator, are two no-nonsense Ex-Chefs who found a recent friendship in their shared experiences as young kids growing up in the very hard, very real, very underpaid culinary world. Now friends residing in Perth, Tim and Lachie sit down with a kitchens list of current and ex-culinary guests to peel back their own psychological layers and use this podcast to re-live kitchen culture, tell horror stories, discuss current food trends, and share their new life's outside of hospitality …. And! Rip-on the celebrity chef movement and any other food trend bull##it that's popped up in the last 10 years. NO CRYING IN THE COOLROOM is our little world that re-creates all those things that are usually never seen or said outside of a the safe confines of a dark basement kitchen. @timfoilhat @perthdudefood

Stuart introduces his Aliens and Artists project and discusses the inspiration behind it, and the interview then quickly turns into a conversation, as Layman and Stuart share experiences and reflections, riffing on shamanic consciousness, the nature of time, Western esotericism, Terrence McKenna and Alan Watts, encounters with UFOs and "alien intelligences," paranormal phenomena, nature mysticism, the effectiveness of hypnotherapy for accessing the unconscious and healing trauma, and much more. STUART DAVIS is a contemporary musician, songwriter, filmmaker, and podcaster. He has been performing throughout the United States and Europe since 1993. Davis regularly works with music producer Alex Gibson, who produced his last five studio albums. In this episode you'll learn how the rapid progression of cutting edge technology is changing how people socialise and therefore how, what, where and when they drink. Will and Foxy have plenty of opinions on this topic as they reflect on the "constant change" in our interactions with tech and drink, from the historical to the next wave. But to get a better informed perspective we share a discussion that Will was part of for the Persuaders Media & Marketing radio programme on Dublin City FM recently. There Alex Gibson (TU Dublin Head of Digital Marketing) and Ben Finnegan (Head of eSports and Gaming at EPIC Global & host of TBD podcast) help tease out the issues that range from the frivolous to the fundamental for our industry. On our first visit back to our desert island in a couple of months, we talk to Dhavall Gandhi a Whiskey Master Blender whose talent is only matched by his determination to follow his dreams and carve out a career in an "uber-niche" pursuit. We wrap up our Oscar nominees series with the team from Dunkirk. In this two part episode, the artists show how the carefully engineered track builds and maintains tension for the entire running time of the movie, with music playing almost continuously from the opening shot of soldiers walking down the street to the moment Finn falls asleep on the train. They talk about how the mixing time works: they make a complete pass through the film and screen it every week during the final mix; and finally, why director Christopher Nolan feels you don’t necessarily need to understand every word of dialog in his films. “Everything is evaluated for its emotional content as it goes into the mix. Even the dialog has a pace, and a pulse, and a purpose in our mix, and it sits exactly where [Christopher Nolan] orchestrates it to be.” Gary Rizzo “[Composer] Hans [Zimmer] is making the sounds that the audience hears, and I’m making the sounds that the characters hear.” Richard King Oscar nominees: Alex Gibson, Gregg Landaker, Richard King, Gary Rizzo, Mark Weingarten

Alex Gibson is a Artist, Producer, Mixer, Engineer and Brand Developer. He has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Ringo Starr, Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Sting, and Bon Jovi, as well as other talents such as Stuart Davis and Echo Echo. The production teams he has been a part of have been responsible for sales of over 25 million albums worldwide. He has worked with brands like Nike, Volvo, Apple and HBO in various capacities. Alex began his journey in Florida and made his way to Los Angeles via Boston where he studied at Berklee College of Music. He started off in LA as a staff engineer at A&M Studios and stayed with the facility as it made the transition to Henson Recording Studios, where he eventually became the Chief Engineer. We were connected by drummer Blair Sinta, who saw that we were both in a similar place in life and might have some things in common. In this interview we talk about his path to making records and what it takes to get something productive out of an artist. We also talk about the transition he is making from the music industry to points unknown. The week I spoke to him, he was in the middle of producing local artists, mixing a band from Russia, building a website for a venture capitalist, and helping someone build a social media app. I am really excited to have Alex on the podcast for two reasons: He has a deep passion for music and helping artists craft their vision to create the most authentic expression possible. He has been at the heart of a seismic shift in the musical economy and having seen both sides, is trying to imagine what come next. IN THIS EPISODE: What it was like to get to work with his heroes Why he was blown away by Stuart Davis How the d.school at Stanford has inspired him The triggers and signs that are leading him to make a shift How learning about psychology helped him in the studio

Marketing from the Middle of Nowhere™ A series of case-based discussions between two international marketers & academics, Alex Gibson and Sharon McIntyre, about best-practices for marketing small businesses in a global marketplace. The Irish Gibson and Canadian/Irish McIntyre select a shared industry (such as ecotourism), or a shared marketing technique (such as pricing strategy); choose a local successful small business; and then examine the how the respective businesses have excelled. A sense of "place" anchors the discussions: Ireland and Canada have similarities including mythic natural landscapes, sparsely populated geography, proximity to market-giant neighbours, and innovative small businesses. While international listeners and readers may not initially place, for example, Tralee (Ireland) or Edmonton (Canada) on a map of the world; they will think of these towns as wellsprings of off-the-beaten-path innovation, after hearing of the global marketing success of Stockbyte in the online photography industry, and Bioware in the video gaming world. The cases will demonstrate that, in an internet-enabled marketplace, a marketing-savvy small business can thrive and carve out a global market niche. In fact, running a business "from the middle of nowhere" can often be a strategic business advantage.
