Pumpkin Carving Maniacs (0:00:00) Pumpkin carving is a favorite tradition of people all across the country this time of year. It's so fun to see what people will do with their pumpkins. The most popular thing to carve is the classic jack-o'-lantern face. But some people will get really creative. Today, we're excited to talk with some amazing pumpkin carving artists to give us some inspiration and tips this holiday season. Joining us today is Marc Evan and Chris Soria, founders of Maniac Pumpkin Carvers.   Taking Care of Yourself During Divorce (0:35:57) Divorces are draining—emotionally, financially, and physically. There's always more paperwork to go over, the house needs cleaning, the kids need caroling, and as the parent going through the divorce, you need to take care of yourself. However, it's easy to lose sight of taking care of yourself in the mountain of to-dos that accompany a divorce. And while yours kid, your ex, and your family all play a central role in your life during the divorce process, it's time to start making yourself a priority as well. Here today to discuss with us why it's imperative that you take care of yourself during the divorce process and ways in which to begin doing so, is CEO and founder of the online divorce course and membership Afterglow: The Light at the Other Side of Divorce, Dr. Elizabeth Cohen.   What's Going on with Unemployment? (0:52:47) We've experienced unprecedented employment rates this year due to, well, obvious reasons. We started off strong with a 3.5 percent unemployment rate, but then the pandemic hit and we skyrocketed to 14.7%.  About 20 million jobs were lost earlier this year. And while we have been recovering ever since then, things still aren't where they were before COVID-19.We wanted to get an update on where we are now, where things are going, and if there is any hope on the horizon. Here to talk us through it is labor economics expert Michael Ransom.   Staying Organized (1:14:16) Everyone always plans and tries to stay organized, but life can be chaotic and can upset our organization plans. However, allowing yourself to become unorganized is like rolling a snowball down a hill. The longer you let it get out of control, the harder it will be to stop. That's why maintaining an organized lifestyle is so important. We've invited Rachel Rosenthal, an organizing expert, onto the show today to help us understand how we can maintain an organized mindset.   The Death of the Laugh Track (1:28:25) Once upon a time, all of our favorite shows used canned laughter—Seinfeld, Friends, Fraiser etc. We all got so used to it that certain tracks were familiar and even predictable. Decluttering your life is not just a passing craze – it's big business! An industry that emerged in 1984 within Los Angeles, professional organizing has become a lucrative business with professional organizers like Marie Kondo bringing organization and decluttering to American awareness. On today's show, Margaret Sundin-McCann and Stetson Sundin bring on organizing expert Rachel Rosenthal who shares the backstory of what inspired her to start her organizing business. Don't miss this exciting episode and discover the who, what, and why of the organizing industry. Hey, on a side note, in our episodes, we often make references to programs, books, apps, and other tools we love. If you would like to know what these tools are, then click the link below to find out! https://pages.everythingenvy.com/resources Our Free Resource List: https://pages.everythingenvy.com/resources Rachel's Website: https://www.rachelrosenthal.co/ Rachel's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rachelorganizes/?hl=en Partial transcript - We're excited to welcome our guest, Rachel Rosenthal. We are honored to have her on our show because we've been looking up to her for forever. I feel like when we first started the business, you said, “There are a couple of people that I want you to look at,” when I first came on board. Literally, you were one of the first people that I saw on Instagram and we're honored to have you with us. We're excited to talk to you. You've been featured in major magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, Domino's. You've been on TV, ABC News. We're excited to dive into all of that. Welcome to the show. Thank you, guys, so much for having me. I'm excited to be here and chatting with you guys. I appreciate it. You've inspired us so much. You're a boss businesswoman right now. You've been on so many publications. You are the lady boss. We'd love to hear a little bit about your story and what inspired you to start your business and a little bit of backstory. You've been in business for a while now. I'm an old woman. A lot has changed. I've had my business for years now. I started right before my children were born and I always tell people not a steady line up in terms of a journey and no business is, but it has been a journey since then. I went to law school and I decided that wasn't for me. When I started my business, it looked a lot different than it obviously looks now. Being open to change and going with the change of the time has made my business sustainable and being able to continue to work with great clients, continue doing a good job. I always tell my team, “We're only as good as that last job,” because as most of our clients are women, they talk. It has been a journey from there. I started very many years ago, it seems like. I feel like you're one of the OG organizers because organizing as a business is not that old. It's a pretty new industry. After Marie Kondo came out. In our Facebook RISE group, we still have gals or wanting to come in, looking for some support on starting a brand-new business. As you know, we have a lot in there that started. COVID prompted them to start their own business. How was that, starting a business that maybe wasn't as well known yet? You were the pioneer. Now when people start their business, they can look at people like you, they can reach out to people like you. That's what's cool about our community as organizers, I feel like we're all supportive. When people reach out, we do our best to give them knowledge whatever we can. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/everythingenvypodcast/support

When we started the podcast production, taping many episodes, it was before COVID-19 became a global pandemic. Within weeks, even days, the world changed immensely and I wanted to connect with someone who understood the hardship dealing with the virus. Even now as many people are phasing back into socialization, this virus is still a threat and top of mind especially for those touched by a compromised immunity...like myself and today’s guest, Rachel Rosenthal, founder of the professional organizing agency, Rachel and Company. Rachel is an authority focused on home and office organization that’s simple and practical. She left a powerful desk job to follow her passion and now 2500 clients later, has made it into a booming business. In addition to being a successful entrepreneur recognized worldwide, she’s also a mom of identical tween daughters and living a life with Hashimoto’s disease. Rachel spoke with me just weeks into her recovery from COVID-19. She shares with us how she got through, demonstrates some exercises for COVID chest congestion that she learned from CNN’s Chris Cuomo and how her passion for organizing helped her find a little peace during her journey. This week, it's vinyl records vs. Spotify playlists. We talk to Nick Hornby, the English author of High Fidelity, Fever Pitch, About a Boy and many other books that were also adapted into feature films. We chatted with him about the new Hulu adaptation of High Fidelity starring Zoë Kravitz as a record store owner in Brooklyn, what music means to the kids today, and how his puzzle hobby is keeping him busy in quarantine. Then, Stephanie talks to Rachel Rosenthal, who teaches Talmud at the Jewish Theological Seminary and writes frequently about the intersection of Jewish text and modern life. She discusses stories of infertility in the Hebrew Bible, as well as her own experience with infertility as a Modern Orthodox woman. Finally, we check back in with filmmaker Rachel Myers and her grandmother Roberta Mahler, the director and star of Wendy's Shabbat, a documentary about a group of seniors who meet each week for Shabbat dinner at a local Wendy’s fast-food restaurant. Rachel and Roberta, who were guests on Unorthodox back in 2018, tell us about adjusting to life in quarantine, and the surprising new Shabbat traditions their family has created. Decluttering seems to have a permanent spot on our to-do lists, and there’s no end to the advice about how to do it “right.” But bottom line, what’s right is what actually works for you. After all, the goal isn’t to declutter, or even to have a perfect, clutter-free home; it’s to make room for a more peaceful, distraction-free life. In Episode 109 of Edit Your Life, Christine talks to professional organizing consultant Rachel Rosenthal about the difference between “neat” and “organized,” and move on to small, doable ways to integrate decluttering into your daily routine. They discuss handling paper and toy clutter, organizing your closet (no, you don’t have to empty it first), and managing food waste, and Rachel shares her favorite organizing products and tips for maintaining your organized home. + + + + + Every week, Edit Your Life shares practical ideas for decluttering your home, schedule, and mental space without getting bogged down by perfection. Hosts Christine Koh and Asha Dornfest are award-winning bloggers and the co-authors of MINIMALIST PARENTING and won the 2017 Iris Award for Podcast Of The Year.
