It's a simple plan this week: We're just looking at what was on television in late May of 1981. Including: A bizarre Happy Days musical, a horrifying Waltons episode, Mork in a bubble, skydiving Hulk, something called "Women Who Rate a 10," Bo Duke with amnesia, Daisy Duke on Enos, Batman on Fantasy Island, a Muppet on a medical drama, a dead parrot at Mel's Diner, and way too many variety shows (from Bob Hope, Steve Allen, Robert Klein, the Gatlin Brothers, and the Mandrell Sisters). It all sounds wonderful, doesn't it? You should probably cancel Netflix and invest in a time machine. The Mayor of Chickentown on The Doctor's Beard podcast! And our regular links... Actor John Schneider is best known for his role as Bo Duke on iconic 1980's TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard," but his talents go much deeper than playing a good ol' boy, and the resumè shows it. Originally from Mt. Kisco, NY, he's a singer who's recorded some 20 albums. He played Superman's father on the show "Smallville" and starred on Broadway. He's currently (through February 2nd) in the longest running show on the Great White Way, "The Perfect Crime," but his personal life took a tragic and traumatic turn a couple of years ago with the cancer death of his wife Alicia Allain. It was a time where he truly learned, 'God has a plan'. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith, Schneider and his new wife Dee Dee Benkie, talk about how their life together now can only be Divine will. Benkie, a former Fox News contributor, had also suffered the trauma of the death of her husband, actor Paul Sorvino. Together they have a powerful testimony about faith, family... and trusting in God. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Get ready for an unforgettable ride! We're talkin' with none other than the legendary John Schneider—star of Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville, and yes, THIS episode! That's right, BO DUKE himself is here!
The one kicks off with some gardening chat, complaints about the Amazon return process at Kohl's when a person in line in front of you has no honor and youth sports seasons starting up. As far as the movie goes, we check out Malibu Express, out of sequence in the L.E.A.T.H.A.L Cinematic Universe. Much like it's follow-up, Hard Ticket to Hawaii, which we reviewed in Ep 20, this one features more than its fair share of Early/Mid 80s Playboy Playmates, although the...exposure...they give and receive in this one outstrips Hard Ticket by quite a bit. A poor-man's mash-up of Bo Duke, Fletch and Fred from Scooby Doo "investigates" computer sales to Soviet Communists, but that plot of the movie never really happens. Then there's another part about a guy with gambling debts who blackmails high-society women with explicit photos and videos. Then there's like three other unconnected storylines. This movie is basically the fever dream of a teenage boy with a Playboy subscription from 1982-1984. The TL;DR version of the movie goes like this: Car, boobs, moustache, boobs, butt, car, gunfight, boobs, explosion, car chase, gunfight, boobs, helicopter, explosion, boobs, butt, The End. The last ten minutes of the movie is devoted to a couple monologues by the good guy and the bad guy that are intended to help you understand what happened. They didn't help. Malibu Express final grade: Steve Entertaining only for being so ripe with opportunity for mockery. Soooo many topless women that it actually detracted from the story. 2.69/5.0 Brandon Plot was...tough to follow?...non-existent? Andy Sidaris doesn't know how to write a movie, but he does know how to employ Playboy Playmates trying to kick off a film career. 3.80085/5, if you were a kid with a calculator in the 80s Cocktail of the Week: The Pineapple 2 oz Malibu Coconut Rum 4 oz Pineapple Juice Build the drink the the glass. Pour ingredients over ice and stir to combine. Cocktail Grade: A trip down memory lane to the old days in Columbus, OH. Delicious and nutritious. We did amp it up a bit by adding some 151 proof rum on a future round to turn it into the Caribou Lou (h/t Tech N9ne) 4.8/5 ------------------ Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to: boozeandbmovies@gmail.com X: @boozeandbmovies Instagram: @boozeandbmovies Threads: @boozeandbmovies www.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/boozeandbmovies/support
Willie Nelson turned 91 this week and being the American icon he is Karl and Tonya decided to review one of his western movies. This one starred not only Willie Nelson (who in his mid-50s at the time was playing Doc Holliday, a man who died at 36 years old), Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Christopherson, and Bo Duke... I mean John Schneider. Others as well, this was a packed cast. It was a perfectly fine Western movie (actually, a remake of an older movie) and really a lot of fun.

His most recent opus is the gritty, psychedelic patriot drama TO DIE FOR, where he portrays Quint North, a disabled veteran on a mission to protect the American flag from unsavory elements that would like to see it disrespected. Enemies of the flag include the local high school's star quarterback, who has drawn media attention by taking a knee while the national anthem plays at his games. Quint also contends with his neighbor, a Native American man who doesn't see the symbol of the flag with the same degree of pride as Quint, igniting racial tension between the two men. But the most crushing blow to Quint's daily life comes when his own daughter files a restraining order against him to prevent him from driving too close to the local school while displaying an American flag, because today's politically correct standards render the flag an offensive symbol. John Schneider uses a bizarre combination of on-location filming mixed with green screen effects, frequently on very different perspectives of size and scale, which create a disorienting visual environment that perfectly complements his character Quint's descent into madness as he is pushed to the limit for the simple crime of being a proud American. Quint's genuinely troubling depiction of alcohol use, and his untreated PTSD go completely unremarked on throughout the film. Could these medical issues explain why Quint's relationships are so unsuccessful? This 4th of July, the fireworks aren't just a boisterous celebration of American strength — they're also a cry for help. This week we welcome John Schneider along with Tammy and Tonya! Best known for playing Bo Duke on the hit TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, John Schneider also maintained a parallel secondary career as a country singer for much of the '80s. Born in Mt. Kisco, New York, in 1960, Schneider grew up in Atlanta and started acting at the age of eight; he also learned guitar, and as a teenager he entertained at parties and other social events. He loved auto racing and briefly attempted to become a professional, and that experience helped him land his costarring role on The Dukes of Hazzard in 1979. Meanwhile, John recorded a country album called Now or Never for Scotti Brothers in 1981. It was a Top Ten hit on the country charts, and the single "It's Now or Never" made the Top Five on both the country and adult contemporary charts, just missing the pop Top Ten. The holiday album White Christmas followed, and John went on to sign with MCA, issuing five albums from 1984-1987. He scored four number one singles during that time: "I've Been Around Enough to Know" (1984), "Country Girls" (1985), and "What's a Memory Like You (Doing in a Love Like This)" and "You're the Last Thing I Needed Tonight" (both 1986). He also managed five other Top Ten hits, and one of his LPs, 1986's A Memory Like You, topped the country charts. John Schneider kept his acting career going with a variety of guest starring roles on television, plus a few films, and appeared in a couple of Dukes of Hazzard reunion projects. He returned to the spotlight in 2001, when he landed the role of Clark Kent's father on the popular WB series Smallville. From that point forward, Schneider worked regularly on film and television, including providing voices for animated series. He resumed his recording career in a low-key fashion in 2009 with the self-released John's Acoustic Christmas, which was followed by another holiday album in 2014: a collaboration with his Dukes of Hazzard costar Tom Wopat called Home for Christmas. Schneider signed with Maven Music in 2016, releasing Ruffled Skirts, which featured Cajun Navy as support, that year. In 2018, Schneider released Odyssey, an ambitious 52-song exploration of American roots music. You can find John on Facebook or visit his website: JohnSchneiderStudios.com Tammy & Tonya started singing in churches at a very young age along with their parents and three other siblings, Renee, Jamie and Laysa. Their father, Tommy Bilyeu, was a Southern Baptist minister in the Ozarks and The Bilyeu Family spread their ministry in song over the region for many years. Branson historians will remember Tonya & Tammy's start in show business by performing with their family, the Baldknobbers, in the late 70's and early 80's. The duo also spent over a decade performing as the "Stutterettes" with Country Music legend, Mel Tillis. It's just not Sunday afternoon without the sweet harmonies and hand-clapping excitement of some good old Southern Gospel music! Ozarks Gospel combines great music with good clean laughter and family fun! Before the curtain closes, you'll find yourself singing along with this wonderful group as they lift spirits through song. New for 2021, Jamie Bilyeu joins his sister on stage to complete the Bilyeu Trio sound. Jamie is from Nixa MO, and is a Southern Baptist Minister, 32 years ordained. He currently serves as senior pastor of Riverdale Baptist Church, where he has pastored 10 years. From I'll Fly Away to Turn Your Radio On, this show is an uplifting, toe-tapping, feel good, take you to church experience. Then when the sun goes down, the fun is just beginning at Ozarks Country. Performing the classic country music of yesteryear and the best of today's hot country hits the Bilyeu sisters bring over 50 years of top-level show experience to the stage. The comedy of Droopy Drawers Jr, a/k/a Tim Mabe, keeps folks in their seats rolling while the hot band featuring Jim Garstang, Todd Brumley, Garrett Massengale, Trent Dugger, and Tim Prososki join with Tammy and Tonya to deliver the songs you're looking to hear...and feel. Mel Barber joins the cast with his amazing vocals. Mel is no stranger to the stage. His professional career has included performing with Worlds of Fun, Opryland USA and Silver Dollar City. Enjoy an evening with talented folks who love making the audience an extension of the show. Combining great music with wholesome comedy, this show is undeniably FUN!!!! It would be impressive enough for an actor to star in a single show that changed the course of television history with iconic characters and cross-generational appeal, but the fact that John Schneider's done exactly that on a regular basis for at least four decades makes him nothing short of legendary. Whether it's currently playing Jim Cryer on Tyler Perry's “The Haves and the Have Nots”, previously immortalizing Jonathan Kent on Smallville and Bo Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard, or showing off his own fancy footwork on Dancing with the Stars, and one of most recognizable faces in all of pop culture. Add in a music career as a four-time chart-topping country artist with over 20 albums to his credit and it turns out his heart is just as huge as the fame that follows, thanks to his co-founding of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals with Marie Osmond that has raised over $7 billion dollars. With two new movies coming soon, Poker Run and Christmas In Tune, let's welcome one of the most iconic television stars of the 20th and 21st century, actor and singer John Schneider.

Before there was the Kibbe and Finnegan show there was the "DukesCast" segment on The MuscleCar Place, and today's K&F is an inclusion of the very last one! This is Episode 4 from Season 1 of the Dukes titled "Repo Men", which originally was featured in The MuscleCar Place (Episode 282)! It is one of the most pivotal of Dukes episodes ever for two reasons: 1) It's because Lee 1 (the General that makes the jump at the end of the opening credits of the show) was repurposed as the Richard Petty race car...that 20 years later would be found, restored, and sold to PGA stud Bubba Watson, and 2) this episode featured Jerry Rushing as "Ace Parker." Jerry was a real honest-to-God moonshiner, had a speedy Mopar as his runner, told all of his tales to Gy Waldron (the creator of the Dukes), and claims to be the real life inspiration for the best driving, most lady attracting, blondest character of them all: Bo Duke. Jerry also thought he was going to have a recurring role in the show...but this was his one and only appearance. Hope you enjoy!
