What is it about work that defines us? Is it that “A man should be what he can do,” as Private Prewitt says in “From Here to Eternity”? Or that “A job is not just a job. It's who you are, per Remy from 2010's “Repo Men”? Is it some pithy third pop culture quote that we couldn't find because the Internet stopped working for about an hour earlier today? Who can say? This week, our boys Sid and Keith will breakdown the breakdown of what actual jobs consist of - standards versus goals, setting targets, understanding that obstacles aren't an unwelcome challenge but the actual reason for the job existing … oh yeah, we're diving deep this week, dear listeners. Getting all introspective up in this podcast, ya heard? So, tune in and turn up this week's episode of the Overlap Podcast or you'll be missing out on understanding the … jobliness of jobs. Setting targets is the leaders job. Standards vs goals Overcoming the obstacle to hit your targets is the job. There will always be obstacles; that's why the position is needed. Sam and Beth discuss a personal favorite from back in the home video days of one night rentals and compounding rental fees. Repo Man is a Gen X cult classic that we think in many ways accurately reflects Gen X sensibilities. If you want to understand Gen X, watch this movie. Lead actor Emilio Estevez set himself apart from the rest of the Brat Pack by choosing interesting projects, which would prepare him for later success as an actor and filmmaker through the coming decades. Director and writer Alex Cox developed this satirical film with fellow UCLA grads, based on his own experiences working with a repo agent. Harry Dean Stanton (of Alien fame), turns in a surprisingly hilarious performance as “Bud” the battle tested veteran of the industry who shows “Otto” (Estevez) all the tricks of the trade as he shares the sacred “code” that all good Repo Men should abide by. This film is kooky, chaotic, and filled with great sight gags, but it also has something to say —-no matter what circumstances we are born into, there is an inescapable confusion and pressure as we are thrown into adulthood: “it still hurts”. BONUS: Our usual opening banter has been replaced this episode with a several minute scathing rant regarding the recent transition and partnership between Podcasters and Riverside. We sincerely hope you tune in.

It's the end of June and Dave takes 2010's Repo Men off his shelf to discuss the father son relationship... nope, not this week. Though there is a father and a son in this movie, it is nowhere near the plot of this movie. Is this a satire, a comedy, a drama? Phil couldn't settle on what this movie wants to be and found the plot mechanics muddled and thin. Dave enjoyed the performances and found parts of it entertaining enough but thought it lost a little steam as the movie went on.
You know, Jabbo gets away with alot. He's on a pretty impressive, uncontrolled movie picking streak. Scene In Fifteen belongs to the people! And Nashon! Not the guy that picked Repo Men this week. We did say any movie, so give us Repo Men, and we'll give you a rating! Your favorite host is back, with her all too spoiled co-host. Scene In Fifteen keeps it rolling with this 2010 Sci Fi gorefest starting Jude Law and Forrest Whitaker. Crazy movie with a crazy plot and some interesting scenery to boot, but is it enough? Will we have to hunt you down to retrieve a KEEP IT or is a SLEEP IT inevitable? The best way to find out is to listen. I mean, there are other ways, but ya know, those are gross. ENJOY ANOTHER SCENE IN FIFTEEN!

(Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) يتغلب كيس ومولي على التدخلات القانونية السيبرانية ومحاولة خيانة من ريفيرا لدمج وينترميوت مع نيورومانسر، وينتهي الأمر بكيس يعيش في عالم جديد شجاعأفلام:· Escape from New York (1981)[40][41]· Burst City (1982)[42]· Tron (1982)[43]· Blade Runner (1982)[44]· Brainstorm (1983)[45]· Videodrome (1983)[46]· Repo Man (1984)· The Terminator (1984)· Brazil (1985)· RoboCop (1987)[47]· The Running Man (1987)· Gunhed (1989)[48]· Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)· Circuitry Man (1990)[49]· RoboCop 2 (1990)· Hardware (a.k.a. YVETTE NICOLE BROWN BIO Yvette landed her first television role - - a two-episode gig playing Toni Childs' sister "Sherri" on GIRLFRIENDS - - by chance. Casting director Robi Reed called her in to audition from a post card submission. Yvette had no credits and no agent. That stroke of serendipity at the beginning of her career, taught Yvette that you never know how God is going to move in your life and career. Booking a series regular role two months later, on the first pilot she auditioned for further proved the point. That show, ABC's THE BIG HOUSE -- which starred Kevin Hart, only lasted a few episodes; but that experience proved to be a blessing as well. Through it, Yvette learned the transient nature of the business and to always "travel light".Yvette has since appeared (and often recurred) on shows as varied as ENTOURAGE, PSYCH, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, HOT IN CLEVELAND, MELISSA & JOEY, THE OFFICE, THE SOUL MAN, THAT'S SO RAVEN, HALF & HALF, SLEEPER CELL, HOUSE, TWO AND A HALF MEN, THAT 70'S SHOW and BOSTON LEGAL - - where she got to perform "Big, Blonde & Beautiful" from Hairspray. It was a bit of a homecoming because Yvette is no stranger to singing. She was managed by Michael Bivins (of New Edition and BBD) and signed to Motown Records when she was just a teen.Younger viewers may know Yvette from her recurring role on Nickelodeon's DRAKE & JOSH, where she played movie theater manager, Helen Ophelia Dubois. Landing that role was another serendipitous experience. The role of Helen was to be a one-time role; one that Yvette auditioned for while on hiatus from THE BIG HOUSE. That one-time role turned into four years of employment and introduced Yvette and her silliness to the best group of fans in the world...kids! The cast of DRAKE & JOSH reunited in 2008 for the holiday movie, "Merry Christmas: Drake & Josh," a film that broke Nickelodeon viewership records when it was seen by over 8 million viewers the night it debuted. It has since gone on to become an annual holiday favorite.Yvette has also had a successful career in commercials. She's appeared in over 40 national spots. You may have seen her in ads for BIG LOTS, PINE SOL, CITIBANK, FIBER ONE YOGURT, DAIRY QUEEN, HAMBURGER HELPER, ARROWHEAD WATER, HOME DEPOT, COMCAST, LG and DiGIORNO'S PIZZA to name a few. Yvette was also immortalized in puppet form as "Mrs. Lewis, from downstairs" in a series of NIKE spots alongside puppet versions of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. She is also making a name for herself in the voiceover world. She can currently be heard as "Luna" on Disney's ELENA OF AVALOR, "Principal Waller" on DC's SUPERHERO GIRLS and the dual role of "Portia" and "Zenith" on Crackle's SUPERMANSION where she works alongside Bryan Cranston and Keegan Michael Key. She also voiced the character "Cookie" for three seasons as one of the HUB Network's POUND PUPPIES. Listen closely and you can also hear Yvette on WABBIT, FAMILY GUY, PUPPY DOG PALS, THE REGULAR SHOW and DOC McSTUFFINS just to name a few and recently made her feature animated debut voicing "Ladybug" in the film "Yellowbird"Most recently, Yvette has made the rounds of numerous game shows and talk shows including THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT, THE CHEW, THE VIEW, THE REAL, HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT, TO TELL THE TRUTH, CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD, PYRAMID, MATCH GAME, CELEB NAME GAME and her absolute favorite, THE TALKING DEAD.In addition to her commercial and television work--most recently as a series regular on CBS' THE ODD COUPLE, Yvette also has a burgeoning film career. She made her film debut in the romantic comedy, "Little Black Book," working alongside Brittany Murphy and Oscar winners, Holly Hunter and Kathy Bates. Her next film, Michael Bay's futuristic thriller, "The Island" put her on the set with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. Supporting roles in other films including "Dreamgirls" and "The Kid and I," - - where she first met and worked with one of her childhood heroes, Henry Winkler - - soon followed. She was in the box office hit, "Tropic Thunder" (directed by Ben Stiller) where she worked with Matthew McConaughey; as well as the family film, "Meet Dave" where she realized a childhood dream by sharing the screen with Eddie Murphy.Other film roles include the family film, "Hotel for Dogs" starring Emma Roberts and Don Cheadle, the romantic comedy, "The Ugly Truth" starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, the indie hit, "(500) Days of Summer" starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt; and the action thriller, "Repo Men" where she shared the screen with Jude Law and Oscar winner, Forest Whitaker. Most recently, those with a keen eye, could see Yvette peeking thru loads of prosthetic makeup as one of the "three fates" in the Percy Jackson sequel, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters".Yvette also appeared in the hit BET mini-series THE NEW EDITION STORY and hosted SyFy's game show, COSPLAY MELEE, Yvette also co-starred in the recent ABC sitcom THE MAYOR and starred as Shirley Bennett for five seasons on the NBC hit comedy series COMMUNITY.Yvette currently resides in L.A. Presented with Holley! At the SEMA Show Holley dropped a number of new product offerings, including the super nice (and super affordable) Hooker exhaust manifolds for the traditional Small Block Chevy. Hooker's line of cast-iron exhaust manifolds are designed to perform far above factory manifolds and are offered in five finishes: natural cast, cast-iron gray ceramic, black ceramic, silver ceramic, and titanium ceramic. For builds under 550 horsepower that don't necessarily need tubular headers, like a weekend cruiser, these manifolds might be the answer you are looking for! Just visit Holley.com to peruse and view for yourself. While you are there....pick out a few more things for Christmas and be SURE to tell them that we sent you! Dukes Review: When Corndog picked a Georgia episode to review I knew to trust his judgment. This episode features everything: Jerry Rushing, the self-proclaimed real-life Bo Duke, Lee 1 in it's after jumped form, and a thin Boss Hogg with a weird accent and even weirder eyebrows. Add to that mismatched GL's as far as the eye can see, real GL horn sound effects, and writing credits by none other than Bob Clark (from "A Christmas Story")! 10 Corndogs. Host Aaron Odom (@TridentTheatre) and TikTok celebrity Jason Roy Gaston discuss the development of a strange but lovely modern opera, its fanbase, and an unfortunate incident when that fanbase felt threatened.
Kenny Robinson is one of the hardest working comedians in Canada & has been making his living as a comic/actor since 1984. Along the way, he has helped to launch careers for many upcoming comedians & has done so selflessly. I first took notice of Kenny when he hosted his TV show, "After Hours" in the early 2000s & his train has kept rolling on through the years. I met Kenny while I was performing with my band at a bar in London, Ontario circa 2008. He was working his show at the local Yuk Yuks & found his way to my show as he was looking to blow off some steam & relax after his set. He is one of the warmest & kind celebrities I've met to date. Known for his raunchy or "blue" comedy, Kenny has also done a lot of mainstream work in both comedy & acting, including regular appearances on the TV series "Doc" featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, movie roles alongside Chris Rock (2001 "Down to Earth") Jude Law & Forest Whitaker (2010 Repo Men). Most recently, he's appeared as "Reggie" on the Tv series "Coroner" & as "Earl" on "The Umbrella Academy" . Meanwhile, he is on tour creating laughs all over Canada. His "Nubian Comedy Revue" has been very well received as he continues to give younger artists a leg up. In this episode, we discussed his beginnings in show business & his successes along the way to the present.

Váš oblíbený pořad přináší nejen zaručené tipy dvou redaktorů, ale i vyhlídku očekávaných novinek do konce měsíce a zamyšlení nad nejsledovanějšími tituly měsíce uplynulého. "Repo Men" is a 2010 action film which is kind of set in the present day but also kind of set in the future. It tells the story of a future where nothing is different to 2010 except you can now get expensive robots on payment plans. It follows a Repo Man for robot hearts who goes on the run once he himself has to have a robot heart.John Leguizamo plays Aspery, a black marker organ donor who does the regular Leguizamo character journey - 2 scenes and a death. Before there was the Kibbe and Finnegan show there was the "DukesCast" segment on The MuscleCar Place, and today's K&F is an inclusion of the very last one! This is Episode 4 from Season 1 of the Dukes titled "Repo Men", which originally was featured in The MuscleCar Place (Episode 282)! It is one of the most pivotal of Dukes episodes ever for two reasons: 1) It's because Lee 1 (the General that makes the jump at the end of the opening credits of the show) was repurposed as the Richard Petty race car...that 20 years later would be found, restored, and sold to PGA stud Bubba Watson, and 2) this episode featured Jerry Rushing as "Ace Parker." Jerry was a real honest-to-God moonshiner, had a speedy Mopar as his runner, told all of his tales to Gy Waldron (the creator of the Dukes), and claims to be the real life inspiration for the best driving, most lady attracting, blondest character of them all: Bo Duke. Jerry also thought he was going to have a recurring role in the show...but this was his one and only appearance. Hope you enjoy! The new format contains a lot of spoilers of newer movies that I haven't seen yet. Alicia Postigo Hey guys, I just listened to the last podcast and Jonathan got the pronunciation of my last name right the first time, just FYI. Keep up the awesome pod-casting. Ray R I'd love to hear your thoughts on the whole Ghostbusters fiasco. There doesn't seem to be much redeeming about the movie except for Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Chris Hemsworth, Andy Garcia, and Nate Corddry all but one of whom appear to be minor characters. Previously I had no intention of seeing the film because it just doesn't look like it would be any good but I've actively soured on the film since the internet lost it's mind over James Rolfe not wanting to see it. http://cinemassacre.com/2016/05/17/ghostbusters-2016-no-review-i-refuse/ The backlash to Rolfe's completely reasonable video that has nothing to do with gender has made it such that if you don't want to see Ghostbusters you're automatically sexist regardless of your reasons. I plan to have a movie marathon weekend when Ghostbusters comes out and see every other movie in theatres except Ghostbusters while wearing my Cinemassacre t-shirt. A quiet protest for the voice of reason. If I go see Finding Dory on Ghostbuster's opening for reasons having nothing to do with gender or identity am I still sexist? Do people really reveal the content of their character by the movies they watch? Liz Irwin The level of anticipation I have towards The Dark Tower movie is hard to quantify. I truly believed nobody would ever try to make it into a movie or series. It's an epic tale and I'm beyond thrilled with the casting of Roland, a little nervous regarding McConaughey. Nick Jensen I love the Dark Tower series, well the first four are amazing, but as far as the movie goes I'm not really holding my breath. History has shown that Hollywood has not been able to adapt King well at all, unless your name is Frank Darabont or Rob Reiner, and being as expansive and non-traditional as the Dark Tower is I could see this not working out. That being said, I will probably see it because I'm a huge Stephen King fan. The movie I'm most looking forward to is Jason Bourne, I know it's not sci-fi but it's the one I'm looking forward to the most, and I'm still very interested in Suicide Squad even though I'm getting a bit of comic book movie fatigue. Movies to avoid: Goosebumps, loved the books as a kid and picked it up to watch while drinking a couldn't finish it; Legend with Tom Hardy, not sci-fi but I love Tom Hardy but could only watch about 30 minutes of this there was no storyline whatsoever, very disappointing. John Sheehy John Sheehy I've been looking forward to the Ghostbusters since I first heard about it. Don't know if Starbuck is going to make a cameo but this cast have made some really good comedy movies. Whatever this thing on the internet is I've been trying to ignore it, I'm going to blindly call both sides idiots, the movie isn't out yet. Disappointed with X-Men, it seems flat and I felt it's been twisted in the direction of a Young Adult Franchise Cash-cow. Warcraft is the best collection of actors to ever have we want to leave a movie….a few nice moments but it was tough going. The King and Queen however do look promising in the first episode of Preacher….Ruth Negga was in an Irish cult hit and delighted to see her get bigger roles than just helping Brad Pitt figure out how to stop Zombie's My Sci-fi recommendation is for everyone to watch Repo Men for all the health care questions and I'm also going to recommend Eye in the Sky. (Drone movie with Helen Mirren et al) I think we all grew up watching movies exploring how we will react and use technology in the future and this movie follows a familiar approach. Also it serves as a reminder that we are now living in the not-to-distant future when we can wage war from thousands of miles. Please spend some time to consider that rather than on an internet tantrum over a reboot. I don't just mean the war aspect but also, if Eye in the Sky was released 20/30 years ago it would have been classed as a Sci Fiction and today it's just mainstream drama. US Army Video MAV - Micro Aerial Vehicles https://youtu.be/_5YkQ9w3PJ4 Regarding the format change: Chris Williams I loved the new format, you guys are excellent. Something I would enjoy is a section for good indie/smaller film recommendations. Movies you have enjoyed that we may not have heard of. Anyway thanks for all of the effort you put it, fantastic show :) Michael Simshauser Can't say I'm a fan of the new format. Firstly although I wonder if a name change to the podcast maybe in order ? A majority of the beginning of the show was dedicated to talking about Warcraft and Captain America-Civil War. While I am interested in seeing Warcraft and have already seen Civil War, to me they are Fantasy and Superheroes and strictly not Science Fiction. I applaud you for trying something new but I believe it needs more tweaking especially if you are looking at expansion. And the echo that was on Rem's audio throughout the episode also detracted from the episode as well. I have been listening to you guys for awhile now and have found many great films and podcasts because of your podcast and I hope that you can return to your halcyon days soon. Robert Sedler I prefer the old format, mostly because I could easily avoid spoilers by selecting episodes for films I had seen, skipping any and all discussion of films I had not seen yet. Because I really dislike modern movie theaters (mostly because of modern movie audiences) I won't be seeing films like CA:CW or Deadpool until I can rent them. When the discussion this week covered these films I heard a spoiler or two and was then forced to pull the plug on this week's podcast. I appreciate the need to evolve, but I really do prefer a more in-depth look at one film rather than covering so many at a time. Will Neville Sorry guys, but I think I prefer the old format as well. Spoilers are the main issue for me. Is there anything you guys can do about that? Perhaps a spoiler-free version? Other podcasts that I listen to do this. A great example is the Game of Thrones The Podcast by Bald Move. They provide a separate spoiler-free episode that only discusses the TV show and none f the book spoilers. Hans-Kristian Moslund First - you guys are rock-stars, really enjoy the show. And thank you for taking the risk to explore new frontiers, and bold. :-). .. . What worked for me in the new format; - reminded me a bit of a great hang-out with friends, talking about movies - i loved Jonathan doing the interview - i liked that you talked about 'new stuff' coming up, and also some visits to the pasts (what to re-watch and what to avoid) - in general - your podcast is the best Sci-Fi show in town, defacto the gold standard. - great with guests, but really enjoy having 2 key hosts. Some ideas that I could suggest for consideration ; - maybe introduce a bit more tight format with 3-4 sections, without losing the great relaxed setting - suggestions could be : what's coming up / what are you guys excited about. What have you rewatched and enjoyed (with the same format as before the change - but like 20 min or so). - And I would really really like a "series pilot episodes rewatch", where you looked into the premise for a new, old, failed series (the castle, expanse, bsg, dr.who, the 100, B5, dome etc.etc) and also discussed what universe / worldview the serie represented. - have a 5 - 10 min "fun" segment, discussing "biggest ships", "biggest guns", "strangest creature", "stupidst plot", "best suit". Sci Fi technology that has become real, or coming. - Also, suggest the "top 3-5" things that our friends from "game of microphone" uses when you review stuff. - there are a lot of podcast about 'super guys movies' (e.g. total geekcall), you are the kings of sci-fi, so i have you as nr 1 podcast for that reason. the super guys stuff also is fun, but I would always hope to hear more about sci-fi than super-guy´s stuff from your show. John Sheehy Hey guys, the new format is great with all the wandering conversions. It's more a different show from the same team rather than a different format but there is so much going on in SciFi/Fantasy/Superhero movies at the moment, it's great your covering it all and I like the mix of guests. Culturally Ill Podcast An unlikely endeavor of insignificant proportions, we will strive to bring you a podcast that takes a look at films and television shows of cultural importance. When we fail at that, we'll bring you a podcast bad-mouthing and fanboying (or girling) our favorite and least favorite movies and shows!
