A naïve observer would think that everyone lies in the duck world. The biologists lie about numbers and locations of winter ducks, the hunters lie about not seeing ducks, the hunters lie about killing ducks, the non-profits lie about flooded corn to the north, the biologists lie about the number of ducks on the continent. Lies, Lies, Lies. DrMike cuts through the BS in another information packed episode, that more about what telemetry tells and does not tell us, and your duck migration forecast for the coming week.

This week we welcome Dennis Stroughmatt! Known today as a master French Creole fiddler, Dennis Stroughmatt was raised with a love for the music of Bob Wills, Ray Price, Tony Booth, Johnny Bush, Spade Cooley, Wade Ray, and Darrell McCall by his father Jack Stroughmatt. Jack was an avid music buff with thousands of records in a collection that dated to the 1930s. When Dennis began to recognize the music that surrounded him, it was the sound of twin fiddle and steel guitar (as well as a driving horn section) that got him excited and bopping in the middle of the living room floor. With time and different moves, Dennis eventually became enamored with the French Creole music that was local to southern Illinois and southeast Missouri...but that Honky Tonk sound was every present, always in the back of his mind and his heart. The chance meeting of the legendary fiddler and singer Wade Ray would rekindle that feeling and remind Dennis that Western Swing was still in him. After the passing of Wade, Dennis would again passionately return to French Creole and then Cajun fiddling as his professional focus....but the sounds of his childhood never let go. Fast forward to the present....Dennis is still enjoying French Creole and Cajun fiddling...but the time to "swing it" is now and his focus on Honky Tonk and Western Swing has never been sharper. Ready to put his study with Wade Ray, Hadley J. Castille, and Buddy Spicher into play....Dennis Stroughmatt, The Honky Tonk Fiddler, is here! Also a strong vocalist in the Ray Price and Tony Booth style, Dennis is ready to hear from you........... For more information, visit his website: HonkyTonkFiddle.com

This week we welcome The Kendalls! Formed in 1969, The Kendalls recorded an album for Stop Records, from which a single was released in 1970: a cover of John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" (previously a hit for Peter, Paul & Mary). The Kendalls version narrowly missed the top fifty on the U.S. country charts. The duo signed with Dot Records in 1972, and released an album and two singles, "Two Divided By Love", (a cover version of The Grass Roots' pop hit) and "Everything I Own" a cover of Bread's 1972 hit. Eventually, the Kendalls parted with their record label, before signing with the independent Ovation Label in 1977. Their first single for the label, a cover of Kitty Wells hit "Making Believe", made the lower regions of the charts (Emmylou Harris' version of "Making Believe" hit the U.S. Country Charts around the same time). It was the Kendall's 2nd single on Ovation, a "cheating" song called "Heaven's Just a Sin Away", that proved to be their breakthrough. The song topped the country charts and was also a minor crossover pop hit, and won the 1978 Grammy for Best Country Vocal by a Duo or Group. In 1981, after Ovation Records closed, the duo signed with Mercury Records and continued to have hits with "Teach Me To Cheat" and "If You're Waitin' On Me (You're Backin' Up), which both made the country top 10. More hits followed with "Movin' Train" and "Precious Love," which made the top 20. Their last #1 was 1984's "Thank God For the Radio". The Kendalls had many more Top 20 hits in the 80's and early 90's. The also had a supper club in Gulf Shores, Alabama and a theater in Branson, MO.

Since 1975, she has recorded a number of albums of gospel favorites, as well as her original songs. Lillie Knauls To answer the question, "Lillie who?" Here's the answer about this incredibly moving musician. Ms. Knauls was born in Arkansas. Her parents had six girls and one boy. Church was the first place Lillie went in life. When the church doors opened, the Knauls family was there. Lillie can't ever remember not loving the Lord. She asked Him to come into her heart at a very young age. At age 13 her father passed away and the family moved to Seattle, Washington, to live with her Mother's sister. Lillie attended Middle and High school, and began working at Pacific Telephone in 1956. While working at the Telephone Company in San Jose, Lillie took a leave of absence to sing with the Edwin Hawkins Singers in 1970. This was when their song, "O, Happy Day" was Number One on the Gospel charts. It was the first Gospel Song to cross over to Secular Billboard Charts, and sold over a million copies. Ms. Lillie's version can be found on her "Lillie Knauls Past and Present" 2007 Dove Winning CD. They sang all over the United States and Europe, in concert halls and on television shows. Knowing that God called her to a full-time music ministry, she walked away from her job of 22 years at the telephone company. During her farewell luncheon, God gave her a scripture which is still one of her favorites, Matthew 6:26, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store in barns, yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" God has proven Himself true to His Word! He is faithful and supplies ALL her needs with no regular paycheck. Around the world several times, the "MUSICIANARY" goes wherever the doors are opened. Ms. Lillie ministers in large and small churches, Aglow Fellowships, rest homes, prisons, Christian Women's clubs and major Christian TV programs. In addition, God gave Ms. Lillie the gift of being single. (1Corinthians 7:32) Lillie is a frequent speaker at Single's Rallies where she shares on the subject, "Single and Satisfied." She stresses the importance of singles being involved with families, especially ones with children. Lillie has covered the globe ministering and singing about God's love in all nations, except those under Communist rule. Once in Rio de Janeiro, she sang to 200,000 people and 500,000 in Ghana! Though the times and places change, her musical message remains the same... strictly Christ-centered! Ms. Lillie now lives in California and has covered the globe ministering and singing about God's love. She continues to bless and delight audiences all over the world! This week we welcome Pam Setser and Kensley Medrano! Pam adds to her musical memories with the current lineup of groups she performs with; The Pam Setser Band, Apple & Setser, Leatherwoods, and Ozark Granny Chicks. She also performs as a solo artist. And today, Pam's newest album, “Now”, reflects her life in music. It is an Americana mix of folk, bluegrass, gospel, 1930s swing, and country. It all began with her family. "I started singing when I was 5 years old," Pam recalls. "My dad was already playing some guitar; mom played some autoharp...so we started playing as a family band, The Simmons Family." She feels blessed to have been able to play music with her parents. "I am the youngest of four children, so music was a great outlet for me to see places I wouldn't have experienced otherwise," Pam says. "We had lots of fun and adventures together, and I treasure those memories." Pam also sang in church. "My grandpa was a Baptist preacher," Pam says, "so the church was and still is a part of my life." Pam learned to play the autoharp when she was 8. "I would lay it on my lap to play so I could use my left hand for strumming" recalls the left-handed musician. She describes how "my mother tried to teach me on a right-handed mountain dulcimer, but I was having trouble..."; so "Lynn McSpadden, the maker, said, 'Let me make her a left-handed dulcimer.' And that was what I needed." At 15, Pam took up spoons. "I saw someone play them and just thought how neat," she remembers. "I want to do that!" By the time she was 23, it was time to learn guitar and upright bass. "Most of my guitars have been specially ordered," Pam says. "Not every music store carries lefties. My latest guitar is a Red Gibson J200. We looked for it for three years and finally found it at a store in Texas called Southpaw." She plays upright bass, by the way, right-handed. Of all these instruments the mountain dulcimer is her favorite. "It has such a sweet sound, and I have such wonderful memories playing duets with my mom." While rearing her two children, Pam says, "my income from my music was our fun money...money was tight then." "Most of the songs on Crooked Ridge are more familiar songs," Pam says, "whereas on Now, most of these songs are first-time recordings." Pam enjoys a diversity of Americana music, and that is reflected in the 13 songs on Now. But at the end of the day, it is all about the song. "I didn't pick the songs thinking about genres. I picked the songs because I liked the words and melody. When we recorded them, each song took its own direction." Pam is now with Valerie Smith's Bell Buckle Records. Valerie is also acting as Pam's creative marketing director. Pam continues to make her musical memories with her records, performances with her bands while living in Mountain View, Arkansas, the place where she grew up and still calls home. Like many musicians, Pam has been performing on Facebook because of the pandemic. "I feel God has given me my talent, and I always hope my music blesses those who listen," Pam says. "I feed off an audience that gets into your performance. No matter what is going on in my life, when I get on stage, it's like all is OK." For more information visit PamSetser.com. Kensley was born to sing. She has a natural ear for all things music and finds great joy in using her God-given talent. At 12 years of age she has performed in many vocal competitions, school events, and has even performed on Branson stages. The old saying, “the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree,” is very appropriate. Kensley is the daughter of former Grand Jubilee female vocalist, Callie (Agler) Medrano. Callie started singing with Grand Country in 2006 in both Comedy Jamboree and Grand Jubilee. She moved back to Kansas in 2012 to raise her family. Kensley has been a vocal student of longtime Branson vocalist, Nicole Starling. Last year Mike Patrick got to see Callie and Kensley and told them to find a date when they would be in Branson for a vocal recital and he would find a guest spot for her on Branson Country USA. The magic happens this Friday night. This little lady is so talented! Never short on a smile and great attitude, this girl will go far! You will enjoy her performance.
This week we welcome Ryan Pelton as Elvis! Ryan Pelton is an international, award winning, Elvis tribute artist, actor, and singer/songwriter. He often refers to himself as the "Forest Gump" of the ETA world, and claims to have been blessed with an extraordinary amount of dumb luck. In September of 1998, Ryan Pelton was dared by his mother to enter a local Elvis contest in Columbus, OH. At the time, Ryan was building websites for a living. Ryan didn't grow up in an "Elvis" household. He knew little about the King of rock-n-roll, except for the fact that adults in public often said he looked like a "young Elvis" growing up. Despite only having one week to prepare, Ryan entered the contest and against all odds, he won. "I remember having to write the lyrics on my hand because I wasn't familiar with any of the songs. And keep in mind, I had never sang before in my life before that first contest. Pelton's days as a website designer were soon over, as he wanted to pursue the entertainment world, saying, "I don't want to be ninety years old one day and look back saying, "what if?'" Over the next decade, Pelton honed his craft becoming an international, award-winning Elvis Tribute Artist. In 2001 Pelton was declared the "World Champion" when he won the Worldwide Images of the King Contest in Memphis, TN. He has performed all over the world, from casinos to fairs, theaters to festivals, production shows to professional sports arenas. Entertaining audiences in the tens-of-thousands, there can be no doubt that Ryan Pelton is the rarest kind of performer – living up to his billing time and time again. Legends in Concert is located along the famous 76 Strip and has been a part of the Branson entertainment scene over two decades. Two power-packed hours of fabulous entertainment awaits you! This week we welcome, from Confederate Railroad, Danny Shirley! Confederate Railroad first rolled onto the national country music scene in the early 90s with its unique style and sound. Headed by founder and frontman Danny Shirley, the former backup band for both David Allan Coe and Johnny Paycheck got their big break by signing with Atlantic Records. The first single from their debut album ("Confederate Railroad") was "She Took It Like A Man". It went to No. 26, a preview of what was to come. "The next two singles, "Jesus and Mama" and "Queen of Memphis" went to the top of the charts. Three more huge hits followed, "Trashy Women", "When You Leave That Way You Can Never Go Back", and "She Never Cried". "Trashy" would lead to a Grammy nomination and become their signature song. That album with six hits and nearly three million sales brought Confederate the Academy of Country Music's Best New Group Award in 1993 as well as numerous nominations from the Country Music Association and the British Country Music Foundation. The second album, "Notorious", produced one of the group's most popular songs "Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind" which became a No. One video as well. "Elvis and Andy" and "Summer in Dixie" would further establish the Railroad as one of the most versatile acts in the business. This album would sell more than one million. Their overal totals are 18 charted hits and five million albums sold. From rowdy country to raw emotion, a Confederate Railroad concert today covers a wide range of feelings. Young people will be there rocking to "Trashy Women", while their parents and even grandparents will likely be singing along to "Jesus and Mama". The band plays 100 or so dates each year. Whatever the venue, they are right at home...be it a fair, a club, or a biker show. Shirley, the lead singer and vocalist, and his mates, Mark Dufresne on drums, Mo Thaxton on bass and vocals, Rusty Hendrix on lead guitar and Joey Recker on keyboards and vocals are obviously having fun right along with their appreciative audience. At the end of each show, the band stays around until every fan who wants an autograph, or to pose with the group for a picture or just say "hello" is taken care of. This week we welcome the Branson Famous Baldknobbers! In 1959, Mabe brothers Bob, Bill, Lyle, and Jim began performing twice a week in a converted roller skating rink on the Lake Taneycomo lakefront to entertain visiting fishermen at night. The brothers combined popular country tunes with Ozark Mountain music and threw in a dash of comedy to entertain audiences. Their instruments were simple like: the washtub bass, banjo, Dobro, and a mule's jawbone for rhythm. Little did they know in the late 1950's that they would become the founding fathers of Branson's music show industry. The brothers combined popular country tunes with Ozark Mountain music and threw in great, hillbilly comedy to entertain growing Branson audiences. In 1969, the Baldknobbers, as the brothers called themselves, built a theater on Highway 76, making their act the longest continuously running show in town. From their humble beginnings, they began growing in popularity and size, eventually converting an old skating rink into Branson's first live- entertainment theatre. Now 63 years later, the big-red curtain raises every night at 8pm to entertain Branson visitors. You can check out the Branson Famous Baldknobbers at their website: Baldknobbers.com, or call their theatre at 417-231-4999.
This week we welcome T Graham Brown! It was one of the most vibrant and exciting time periods in Country Music history – the mid-1980s. A new and exciting crop of talents were springing up all over the place – and T. Graham Brown remembers it like it was yesterday. “I remember Randy Travis and I hit at about the same time,” he recalls. “Our first singles were so close to each other. I'm not sure if it was the same week or not. Brown's initial entry to Country Radio was the sad and soulful “Drowning In Memories.” That Top-40 single helped him to establish himself, and by the winter of 1986, he had warmed up to audiences with the bluesy hit “I Tell It Like It Used To Be.” Other hits quickly followed, with his first self-penned release “Hell And High Water,” which became his first number one song. “I Wish That I Could Hurt That Way Again” and “Don't Go To Strangers” were the next releases, which all became chart-toppers. The soulful vocal stylings of T. Graham Brown were all over the airwaves, as his sophomore release Brilliant Conversationalist added more titles to his arsenal of hits, such as the seductive “The Last Resort,” and “She Couldn't Love Me Anymore.” It was a time period that Brown sums up as something of a blur. “Doing shows, visiting radio stations and promoting our records, kept me out on the road over 300 days a year and that was a lot of traveling! This was when I was on tour with Kenny Rogers, who was the biggest thing going back then. His audiences continued to make him a radio favorite as he continued to amass more hits like “Darlene,” the smash duet “Don't Go Out” with Tanya Tucker, and the regret- filled “If You Could Only See Me Now.” At the same time his singles were climbing the charts, T.'s powerful voice could also be heard on radio and television. His sense of style provided the platform for a successful series of cameos in commercials for international brands such as Coca-Cola, Harrah's Casino, Burger King, and Taco Bell. As the 80s progressed into the next decade, Brown continued to flex his artistic muscle. A well-received concert album enabled him a chance to pay homage to his early influences, like the incomparable Otis Redding, and his hero George Jones, who he teamed up with on several projects, including the CMA Award-winning Vocal Event of the Year release, “I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair.” It was a gripping 1998 release about his battles with alcohol – “Wine Into Water”- which helped him introduce his music to the Christian audiences. In recent years, his first-ever Gospel album, Forever Changed, netted him a Grammy nomination, with the promise of more such music on the way. Now entering his fifth decade as an entertainer, T. Graham Brown's career continues to sail along at a pace that seems to suit him well these days. “I'm having more fun out there now than I ever have had. I'm not out there chasing the hits. I'm just trying to stay out there. We're planning on doing another Gospel record later this year. And, for T. Graham Brown, it's all about a career that he enjoys. He'll tell you with a grin, “I've got a band and a bus, and I'll keep taking the music to the people as long as God lets me. This week we welcome Terry Johnson as Willie Nelson! Don't tell Terry Johnson that dreams don't come true. Just a country boy from Tyler, Texas, Terry spent his childhood in Texas and Arkansas, fishing, messing around on boats, and working hard at school. He earned an MBA from Texas A&M and went on to build a successful career in the technology industry. In the summer of 1973, before his sophomore year at college, Terry was working as a carpenter's assistant at a golf club outside Austin. One night after work one of the golfers knocked on his trailer door. It was Willie Nelson himself. The Red-Headed Stranger passed on a few tunes, playing songs for Terry for almost two hours on one of his road guitars, an old National. Ever since that summer night, Terry has been Willie's #1 fan. He would go on to sing those same songs thousands of times, practicing Willie's signature, soulful baritone for friends and family and, eventually, around dark and smoky karaoke bars in Northwest Arkansas. He would hold on to that National guitar for the rest of his life. One night last winter, at a spot outside Branson, Missouri, a Legends in Concert associate heard Terry sing Always on my Mind and walked over to his table. “Who are you?” He asked. “ Nobody,” said Terry. “Man, I have never heard anyone who sounded exactly like Willie Nelson before. I'm with Legends in Concert and you really need to come in and audition." Things happened pretty fast after that, and the next thing Terry knew he was given the opportunity to perform at Legends as Willie. This marked an important new chapter in Terry's life: fulfilling a lifelong goal of making people happy singing their favorite Willie songs — and in front of a real audience. Here's to the Legends in Concert team that believed in a 67-year-old retired businessman who just so happened to sing like Willie and had always wanted to do it in front of an audience like you! Legends in Concert is located along the famous 76 Strip and has been a part of the Branson entertainment scene over two decades. Two power- packed hours of fabulous entertainment awaits you! This world famous live tribute show features an amazing cast of all-star entertainers assembled on one stage in one of the most sought after productions in the world. Don't miss out on this extravagant concert in Branson. To order tickets or for more information call the Dick Clark American Bandstand Box Office: 417-339-3003 or visit www.LegendsInConcert/Branson
This week we welcome The Kendalls! Formed in 1969, The Kendall's recorded an album for Stop Records, from which a single was released in 1970: a cover of John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" (previously a hit for Peter, Paul & Mary). The Kendall's version narrowly missed the top fifty on the U.S. country charts. The duo signed with Dot Records in 1972, and released an album and two singles, "Two Divided By Love", (a cover version of The Grass Roots' pop hit) and "Everything I Own" a cover of Bread's 1972 hit. Eventually, the Kendall's parted with their record label, before signing with the independent Ovation Label in 1977. The Kendall's had many more Top 20 hits in the 80's and early 90's. The also had a supper club in Gulf Shores, Alabama and a theater in Branson, MO. After her fathers death in 1998 Jeannie has pursued a solo career. In 2013, she joined forces with entertainer Carl Acuff Jr. who now opens the show and sing's with Jeannie to recreate that unique sound and those favorite "Kendall's" hits.
