Sometimes it's hard to believe how things just get lost. Here's a great example of that. Back in the middle 90's some really cool stuff was happening in the Van Halen camp and everybody thought something big was going down. Well what happened? Sammy was out, DLR was in then out, and Gary Cherone was IN. Come along as Nik details seeing the Cherone led Van Halen live and gives you the history of a very turbulent time in Van Halen's history. Duncan gives you the ins and outs of the music and we'll decide if you should spin it or bin it. https://duncan-evans.bandcamp.com/ https://www.instagram.com/glacially_musical/ Like us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Welcome to this weeks episode of The ABC's of Rock. On this show I feature the amazing 90's funk metal/alt-rock band that most certainly should be celebrated for much more than their hit acoustic ballad, 'More Than Words". I'm talking about Extreme. I invite you on this musical journey through their recording career as I curate my favorite deeper albums cuts from all 5 of the studio LP's. I do not own the rights to any of the music played on this podcast. The musicians or the music labels own the copyright. I play this music under the doctrine of Fair Use. I am not here as a DJ, but to offer music commentary and criticism. My goal is for you to gain a larger appreciation for the bands or the musicians played here on this podcast and I ask for you to go out and purchase their music or legally stream it. The musicians need your support and I hope this show contributes to spreading the good word about the bands you hear on these episodes. I do not profit in any way from this podcast. It is truly done out of my pure love of the music. Here is the link to 'Right There' - A short film I wrote and directed. Broken Records - The Search for the Worst Album Ever

It's Broken Records! The hunt for the worst album ever made is back on, and this week Steve and Remfry decide to induct the 11th studio album by hard rock legends Van Halen, confusingly titled III, released on the 17th of March 1998. After falling out with all of his various previous frontmen, guitar god Eddie Van Halen decided to rope in vocalist Gary Cherone of funk rockers Extreme to take his band into the new Millennium. It didn't go so good! Despite the Van Halen camp constantly telling anyone that would listen that their connection with Cheron was the strongest they had ever had, fans hated the album, it sold a fractional amount in comparison with their other work and Cherone was ousted from the band 20 months after the albums release. But that doesn't mean it's bad does it…!

Hard rock legends Van Halen experienced their biggest commercial and critical successes from the late-1970s to the mid-1980s under the frontmanship of the charismatic, energetic goofball of a lead singer that was David Lee Roth. But interpersonal tensions would lead to Roth's dismissal from the group in 1985. Further success was achieved via his replacement, Sammy Hagar, who would also be ejected from the band in 1996 due to more infighting. After a false start in achieving a reunion with Roth, they instead turned to Gary Cherone, the former frontman of glam metal-turned-groove rock band Extreme, to helm the wayward group. The lone album Van Halen cut with Cherone, 1998's Van Halen III was a marked departure from the band's typical sound, containing a heavier emphasis on experimentation, and balladry far removed from their hard-rocking party-centric style up to that point. Fans and critics were not having it, and the record suffered from poor commercial sales and even poorer reviews, to the point where touring attendance suffered, leaving Cherone to exit the band in shame, and Van Halen to go on an extended hiatus until 2003.On this episode of Jukebox Zeroes Lilz & Patrick team up with rapper, radio-man, and Van Halen expert D-Tension to slog through Van Halen III for themselves. Join them as they wade through the depths of Eddie Van Halen's ego, to decide whether this record is best left buried, or deserving of a fairer shake.Local Music Feature: D-Tension - Piss You Off

Ken Davis is joined by Tony Arnold, WBEZ’s State Politics Reporter, Hal Dardick, investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune and Heather Cherone, City Hall reporter for the Daily Line. They discuss this week’s raucous meeting at the Chicago City Council in which about a hundred police officers showed up to express their frustration with slow progress toward a police contract, and hundreds of other protesters vented their concerns that too much money was being directed toward Mayor Emanuel’s proposed police training academy. But, as Cherone reports, all sides seemed united in their displeasure with Mayor Emanuel. The approval for the Obama Presidential Center sailed through, but not without a lone dissenter, Ald. David Moore. Moore and Ald. Carolos Ramirez-Rosa were highly visible dissenters at the meeting, and shortly afterward the Latino Caucus announced that it had expelled Ramirez-Rosa. Tony Arnold provided an update on WBEZ’s ongoing investigation into deaths at the Illinois Veteran’s Home, and their most recent revelation that one victim probably remained in her room for as much as 48 hours before being discovered by the staff. The panel also considered Governor Rauner’s re-write of a bill to license the State’s gun stores and extend the “cooling-off’ period to 72 hours for assault weapons. He extended the waiting period to all guns and reinstated the death penalty – a proposal that seemed to leave politicians on both sides of the aisle scratching their heads. This program was produced by Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV).
