By 1985, Eric Clapton's storied career seemed to be flaming out. The Rock God status he'd attained in the 60s with The Yardbirds and Cream and maintained as a solo artist in the 70s had started to wane thanks to inconsistent records, drugs and alcohol. His previous record, Money and Cigarettes, lacked hits and failed to go gold - his first for Warner Brothers. Needing a success in the days of MTV and synthesizers, he turned to Phil Collins who had the magic touch at this time (listen to UAWIL 220 on No Jacket Required). And though they had fun in Montserrat recording the album, all was not well. Eric was slowly but surely breaking up with Pattie Hanson - his wife, the inspiration for Layla and former wife of George Harrison. You can hear his lament on songs like Just Like A Prisoner and the title track. Despite the emotion he may have put into the tracks, Warner Bros weren't happy. So they teamed him up with one of their songwriters, Jerry Lynn Williams, and Van Halen producer Ted Templeman to craft a couple of hits in LA. The single Forever Man did top the mainstream rock charts in the US and helped the album go platinum. But Clapton seems uneasy with some of the synthesizer work and the songs written by others. Nonetheless, this record did bring him some needed success and attention which would lead to bigger achievements in the late 80s, the early 90s and beyond. Released March 11, 1985, we thought this one is an interesting inflection point in Clapton's catalog and worthy of a look as it turns 40. Here at 100 Guitarists, we thought we knew a lot about Allan Holdsworth. But after we did our deepest of dives, we only emerged with more questions: Was Holdsworth the John Coltrane of the guitar? Was he the quintessential fusion guitarist? Why isn't there a Holdsworth signature Synthaxe? And how do you read his weird chord charts? We might not have all the answers—and when it comes to his chord charts, we definitely do not—but we're taking some big swings. We also share our top picks, which includes Tony Williams rippers, slick Ted Templeman-production, and a Beatles cover. In our current listening segment, we're talking about a Wayne Horvitz/Bill Frisell archival release and Jersey Boys.Sponsored by Voodoo Lab: https://voodoolab.com/Follow Nick: https://www.instagram.com/nickmillevoiFollow Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jasonshadrickGet at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.comCall/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. https://www.youtube.com/live/qowvTjMPyGc?si=nwSTUA-EGA5MD8L3 The Story of 1984: How Van Halen's Biggest Album Became a Rock Masterpiece When Eddie Van Halen first introduced Jump to the band, the reaction was far from enthusiastic. David Lee Roth, in particular, balked, arguing that Eddie was a guitar hero, not a keyboard player. However, producer Ted Templeman immediately recognized its potential, calling it a “stone-cold hit.” That moment of skepticism turned to triumph as Jump became Van Halen's only #1 hit, propelling their 1984 album into rock history. 1984 wasn't just another album—it was Van Halen's magnum opus. Released in a year symbolized by George Orwell's dystopian novel, the album instead became the soundtrack to a carefree, hedonistic era. Eddie Van Halen's groundbreaking blend of guitar mastery and keyboard innovation defined the album, which dominated charts, airwaves, and hearts. The Legacy of 1984 A commercial juggernaut, 1984 earned RIAA Diamond certification for selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone. It remains one of the best-selling rock albums of the 1980s, rivaled in the band's catalog only by their 1978 debut. Its tight 33-minute runtime delivered four charting singles: Jump (#1), Panama (#13), I'll Wait (#13), and Hot for Teacher (#56). Even deep cuts like Top Jimmy, Drop Dead Legs, and House of Pain showcased the band's fiery creativity. The album opened with 1984, an instrumental synth piece that set the tone for Eddie's vision of a brave new world. This wasn't just an album—it was a statement. The Road to Stardom By the early 1980s, Van Halen was already a top touring act. Their 1982 Hide Your Sheep tour sold out all 83 North American dates, and their South American debut introduced them to thousands of new fans. In 1983, their headline performance at the US Festival's Heavy Metal Day drew 375,000 fans and set a record with a $1.5 million payday. Eddie's growing celebrity status elevated the band further. His marriage to actress Valerie Bertinelli brought Van Halen into mainstream households, while his iconic guitar solo on Michael Jackson's Beat It created an unexpected crossover between rock, pop, and R&B. Building 1984 Frustrated by the rushed recording of Diver Down and its reliance on cover songs, Eddie sought more control. He built a home studio, 5150, named after the California police code for a mentally disordered person. With engineer Donn Landee, Eddie created a space where he could experiment on his terms. The 5150 studio became the birthplace of 1984. Eddie's fascination with keyboards took center stage, especially with the Oberheim OB-Xa synthesizer. While synths had appeared on earlier Van Halen albums, they were often disguised as distorted guitars. On 1984, tracks like Jump and I'll Wait embraced their synth-driven identity while maintaining the band's hard rock roots. Eddie's guitar innovations also shone brightly. He used a rare 1958 Gibson Flying V for tracks like Hot for Teacher and Drop Dead Legs, while Steve Ripley's stereo guitars added unique textures to songs like Top Jimmy. The album balanced pop hooks with progressive rock influences, showcasing Eddie's genius. The Breakthrough and the Fallout When 1984 was released, Van Halen had reached their peak. The album's success was undeniable, but tensions within the band were rising. Eddie's increasing control over the creative process clashed with Roth's vision. While 1984 cemented their place as rock icons, it also foreshadowed Roth's departure and the end of Van Halen's original lineup. A Masterpiece That Endures Four decades later, 1984 remains a defining moment in rock history. It's a testament to Eddie Van Halen's relentless innovation and the band's ability to push boundaries. From the infectious synth riff of Jump to the hard-hitting grooves of Panama and Hot for Teacher, the album captures a band at their peak—fearless, ambitious, and unforgettable.

TOM JOHNSTON THE DOOBIE BROTHERS ‘THE LOST INTERVIEWS' with RAY SHASHO EPISODE 15 INTERVIEWED FEBRUARY 17TH 2013 The Doobie Brothers are one of those bands that we've depended on, year after year, and expect to see performing invariably at outdoor music festivals, pavilions, arenas, casinos and bike week events across the nation. The group has been exhilarating audiences for decades yet appear timeless onstage. One of the principal reasons for the longevity and success of the Doobie Brothers has a lot to do with an unmitigated affection shared between the band and its audience. It's been an amazing love affair that has persevered for over forty-two years. When the Doobie Brothers finally call it quits … rock ‘n' roll will probably call it quits too. Tom Johnston is the voice, lyricist and guitarist on numerous classic hit recordings by the Doobie Brothers. Inspired by listening to R&B music on the radio, California native Johnston started his first band at 14, eventually broadening his musical horizons by singing with soul and blues groups. After moving to San Jose to finish college, Tom met Skip Spence, original drummer for the Jefferson Airplane. Spence introduced Johnston to drummer John Hartman. Spence was also a founding member of Moby Grape which had a major influence on the Doobie Brothers. Tom Johnston, John Hartman and bassist Greg Murphy formed the power trio “Pud.” When “Pud” unraveled, the evolution of the Doobie Brothers began to take shape. While living in a home dubbed as their “musical headquarters,” guitarist Patrick Simmons and bassist Dave Shogren joined the group. The band quickly generated a huge following in California. In 1971, the Doobie Brothers launched their self- titled debut album, The Doobie Brothers on the Warner Brothers label with legendary producers Ted Templeman and Lenny Waronker. The first track on the album, “Nobody” penned by Tom Johnston, would later resurface in 2010 on their latest release, World Gone Crazy. Their second studio album Toulouse Street (named for a street in the French Quarter of New Orleans) introduced new bassist Tiran Porter and second drummer Michael Hossack (Navy Veteran). The album spawned the Tom Johnston penned classic hits, “Listen to the Music” (#11 Top 100 Billboard Hit -1972), “Rockin' Down the Highway” and “Jesus Is Just Alright,” (#35 Billboard Top 100 Hit -1973) written by Arthur Reynolds (1965) and performed by The Byrds (1969). In 1973, the Doobie Brothers released, The Captain and Me spotlighting some of the bands most memorable classic rock tunes penned by Tom Johnston … “Long Train Runnin'”(#8 Billboard Hot 100 Hit) and perhaps the bands anthem song, “China Grove” (#15 Billboard Hot 100 Hit). The Captain and Me also featured a guest performance by future Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter. The Doobie Brothers fourth studio album, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits released in 1974 spawned the Tom Johnston penned songs, “Another Park, Another Sunday” (#32 Billboard Hot 100 Hit) and “Eyes of Silver” (#52 Billboard Hot 100 Hit). The album also featured Pat Simmons penned tribute to “The Big Easy,” “Black Water” (#1 Billboard Hot 100 Hit -1975). Stampede released in 1975 was the final album before Michael McDonald took over lead vocalist duties from an ailing Tom Johnston. The album featured the cover version, “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)” (#11 Billboard Hot 100 Hit -1975) written by the Motown team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. Subsequent albums …Takin' It to the Streets (1976), Livin' on the Fault Line (1977), Minute by Minute (1978) and One Step Closer (1980) featured a successful second incarnation of the band, which primarily consisted of Michael McDonald(vocals, keyboards) Patrick Simmons (guitars/vocals) Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (guitars, steel guitars), Tiran Porter(bass, vocals), John Hartman (drums) and Keith Knudsen (drums). *Tom Johnston played and sang “Turn It Loose” and “Wheels of Fortune” on the album Takin' It to the Streets. John McFee was added to the Doobie Brothers lineup in 1979 replacing Jeff “Skunk” Baxter and was featured on One Step Closer. After a successful run, the band's signature sound and direction became disillusioned. While working on his solo project, Tom Johnston rejoined the band for a Farewell Tour, and then the Doobie Brothers would call it quits as a band for the next five years. The reformation of the Doobie Brothers was contrived when the band's alumni were asked by drummer Keith Knudsen to perform at a concert to benefit veterans' causes. The band discovered that tickets were in great demand and soon embarked on a twelve-city tour. In 1989, Cycles, the tenth studio recording by the Doobie Brothers, now on Capitol Records, witnessed the return of Tom Johnston and drummer Michael Hossack to the studio as a band. Tom Johnston's distinctive vocals returned, and the band re-established their musical roots. Subsequent releases … Brotherhood (1991), Sibling Rivalry (2000) and World Gone Crazy (2010). World Gone Crazy was the Doobie Brothers highest charting album since 1989 receiving rave reviews and featuring the longtime core lineup of Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons. The Doobie Brothers band functions like a well-oiled machine, touring consistently year after year and enchanting music enthusiasts worldwide. The current lineup of Tom Johnston (vocals/guitar), Pat Simmons (vocals/guitars), John McFee (guitar/strings/vocals), John Cowan (bass), Guy Allison (keyboards/vocals), Marc Russo (saxophones), Ed Toth (drums) and Tony Pia (drums)… represent a musical legacy that defines the quintessence of rock ‘n' roll and a band that we've always depended on throughout the years. The Doobie Brothers have sold more than 40-million albums worldwide. …So why aren't they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Tom Johnston and the Doobie Brothers will be performing live as part of the Bands, Brew & BBQ concert series at Busch Gardens in Tampa on Sunday, February 24th. Let's set the stage. It's 1988. The airwaves are buzzing with the high-octane sounds of Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses, and Bon Jovi. MTV is our go-to for the latest music videos, and hip-hop is making serious waves with N.W.A. and Public Enemy dropping game-changing albums. We're quoting Die Hard, laughing at Beetlejuice, and tearing up at Rain Man. TV's got us hooked on Roseanne and The Wonder Years. The Berlin Wall is still up, and the Cold War is real, but there's a rebellious buzz in the air.Does this album bring back good vibes?
Hello and get ready for so much Van Halen once again! And Better Off Dead! So much good stuff that could have only happened in the 1980s converging in one place. Along with more 70s Van Halen history too, of course. We'll cover stuff like: Savage Steve Holland's real life experiences that went into his script, and later work in children's cartoons Michael Anthony's first meetup with Sammy Hagar Eddie's challenges in early life as a shy kid would couldn't speak english in America His challenges shaking off the controlling influence of David Lee Roth and Ted Templeman making "1984" the way HE and Alex and Donn Landee wanted to John Cusack's initial hatred of "Better Off Dead" and his eventual backpedal The Van Halen family's journey from The Netherlands to Pasadena by boat and by train My shock at finding out Alex's drums on certain songs were actually an electric kit Al, Mike, and Sammy's soundcheck routines and gear specs on the 1993 tour The AC/DC songs Eddie says inspired "Panama" and "Drop Dead Legs" The making of Van Halen 2 and how it was intentionally different from the debut album How "Fair Warning" influenced what happened on "Diver Down" which in turn influenced "1984" Eddie's on-the-road-all-night-every-night initial fling with Valerie Bertinelli that morphed straight into their marriage What happens when a couple of lucky young dudes from Pennsylvania get to party with Van Halen and MTV doesn't know how to keep up with it all AND SO MUCH MORE. Including lots of my musical interludes and suprise voices from throughout time and space! Even more than usual. Please remember that Rock n' Roll is the best, and so are you! On the 48th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1981 classic album from Van Halen, "Fair Warning." Fair Warning was Van Halen's 4th studio album. The album continued to keep Van Halen as THE hard rock band of the era. The album went up to number 5 on the US Billboard album charts and has gone double platinum. Van Halen is led by perhaps the greatest guitar player of all time, Eddie (Edward) Van Halen. Not to be out done is the preeminent frontman of the 1980's, David Lee Roth. A rhythm section second to none, with Alex Van Halen and his signature drumming and the great Michael Anthony on bass and his acclaimed backing vocals. The album was produced by the legendary Van Halen producer, Ted Templeman. Fair Warning see Van Halen going a little darker than normal, from the album cover, to the opening track, like "Mean Street." The album features two of Van Halen's classic songs like "Unchained" and "So This Is Love?" and many beloved Van Halen deep cuts. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 46 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was the Tom's pick. So c'mon Loudcaster's give us a break...one break coming up! After rushing through their 5th album Diver Down, Van Halen wanted to return with an original album that would establish them as the preeminent hard rock band in the USA. Eddie Van Halen had completed his home 5150 studio which would allow him to develop ideas and work out the synthesizer sounds that he was experimenting with but which had also been shot down by lead singer David Lee Roth and producer Ted Templeman. But Eddie was ready to mix his guitar heroics with the new age sounds that were popular at the time. By mixing Eddie's musicianship with Dave's showmanship and throwing in some MTV, Van Halen became the biggest band in the world! The videos for Jump, Panama and Hot For Teacher were all over MTV that summer and even won them some video awards. But trouble was brewing in the Van Halen camp as not everyone was on the same page. Despite it reaching the highest chart position ever for the band at that time (#2 US) and eventually going on to be a diamond seller (10 million+), Dave would leave the band at the end of the year. But for two 10 year old boys from the suburbs, the magic of 1984 still lives to this day! We go track by track as we celebrate its 40th anniversary! But for two 10 year old boys from the suburbs, the magic of 1984 still lives to this day! We go track by track as we celebrate its 40th anniversary! HAIR METAL Podcast EP.21: VAN HALEN - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991) & 2024 Sammy Hagar VAN HALEN Tribute Tour. Watch the YouTube version of this show on the Fandom Podcast Network Channel here: https://youtu.be/mYz71a8V1I8 The Hair Metal Podcast looks back at the Thrash, Glam & Rock Pop Metal bands, music, events and everything else that heavily influenced the 80's & early 90's Hair Metal music era. On this episode of the Hair Metal Podcast, host Kevin Reitzel, and guests Mike Simmer and Kyle Wagner, discuss Van Halen's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (often abbreviated as F.U.C.K.) album. It was the ninth studio album by Van Halen. It was released on June 17, 1991, on Warner Bros. Records and is the third to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and maintained the position for three consecutive weeks. The album marked a record in the band's history, seeing seven of its eleven tracks released as singles. The album marked the first time the band had Ted Templeman working in a producer capacity since 1984, when David Lee Roth was still lead singer. Also discussed is the 2024 Sammy Hagar Van Halen Tribute tour, and the long running debate with fans, who was the better Van Halen frontman, David Lee Roth, or Sammy Hagar. Remember...every rose has its thorn, and on a steel horse... we will ride! HAIR METAL LIVES! Rock on everyone! On the 2nd episode of our monthly sidecast, First Concert Memories, we welcome Van Halen superfan Greg Renoff to talk about the night he saw Van Halen on the 1984 Tour. This night would change Greg's life as he would go on to literally write the book on Van Halen with Van Halen Rising and his latest Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music. You can hear Greg's enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge of Van Halen throughout our chat as we do our best to work the standard 20 questions we ask of every guest on FCM. The Wolf & Action Jackson anxiously awaited this episode as though they did eventually see Van Halen on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge Tour together in 1991, what really turned them onto Van Halen as impressionable youths was seeing the boys on MTV in 1984. Jump, Panama and Hot For Teacher were in heavy rotation on MTV that summer and the world had caught Van Halen fever. But we were too young to understand that you could see a band you saw on MTV on tour and had no idea how to go about getting to a concert (we were 10). However, a young Greg Renoff scored a ticket and got his mom to drop him off in the family truckster so he could witness Van Halen at the peak of their power on what is considered by most to be the best tour they ever did. Author Greg Renoff joins us on the wheel - Greg is the author of Van Halen Rising, and Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music. Eagle-eyed Randy fans will recognize Ted Templeman as the front man of Harper's Bizarre, the sunshine pop band that put out a bunch of Randy covers back in the day. Greg and I talk about Ted's career, as well as Sammy vs. David, Van Morrison, Lenny Waronker, Ry Cooder, Van Dyke Parks, Little Feat, Chunky Novi & Ernie, and lots of Randy. Greg gives us some tidbits I'd never heard before about a couple of Randy songs - in fact, these tidbits are down-right ungoogleable. Listen to find out, and impress your friends at your local pub's next Randy Newman Trivia Night. Thanks Greg, this one was a lot of fun. Thanks for listening everybody, and be sure to vote for TALL PERSON for best OKC Cover Band at okgazette.com.
On the 41st Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1988 self titled debut album, "BulletBoys" BulletBoys were led by trio of ex-King Kobra members, guitarist Mick Sweda, bassist Lonnie Vencent and lead singer, Marq Torien. The band added drummer Jimmy D'Anda. The band drew a lot comparison to Van Halen, due to them signing with Warner Brothers, their first album being produced by legendary Van Halen producer, Ted Templeman and the lead singer Marq Torien's style which resembled David Lee Roth. The Van Halen influence along with ACDC was evident as well in the music. The debut album led by singles, Smooth Up In Ya and For The Love Of Money, which were heavily played on MTV pushed the album to gold status. Torien's unique look and style and his amazing voice also brought attention to the band. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 39 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Sonny's pick as if anyone couldn't tell So give us a taste kissin' kitty or its one, two F You! Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! This week is our fourth in the series celebration of the gender with the most attitude and pure ferocity. Inspired by a show that Kevin played with his band The Swear a week ago, where he took a moment and paused onstage to witness 2 badass ladies commanding the stage like bosses! Per usual, we focus on women that truly rock! Ladies that play loud and heavy with attitude, grit, and that rasp. What's this InObscuria thing? This week we offer up the 9th installment of our series called, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss the more obscure side projects and solo releases from some not-so-obscure artists. This time around we are paying homage to one of the original classic rock gunslingers that helped design the template for hard rock in the 80s and beyond: the amazingly talented RONNIE MONTROSE! While he's no longer with us, his spirit carries on in strength and numbers in his vast body of work from the various bands he fronted or participated in.New to InObscuria? It's all about digging up obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about a band or artist that many of you know in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of side projects he has had over his long career.

The middle of the 80's found VH at a fork in the road. Pack it up or soldier on. One of those was never actually an option. Who could step into these be-dazzled, platform shoes? Very famous/not famous names were thrown around and jam sessions were had. But nothing "jived" until they hooked up with the "Voice Of America" himself, Samuel Roy Hagar. The "Red Rocker". That "Dude From Montrose". The "Whitest Teeth In Rock and Roll", Sammy Hagar. And Diamond Dave? He's studying spanish motherf**kers! Estudiando espanol. Never say the man doesn't tap dance his ass off. The result was an iffy EP and a classic LP. Diamond Dave Mach 2 vs. Van Hagar for car stereo dominance. We'll sell you a seat, but you'll only need the edge.
Episode 017: Seventeen Miles to the SunThe Association - Never My Love (US 1967) A huge hit for these Los Angeles pop chart regulars and the paradigm for what would become the “soft rock” sound with its clear and minimal production that leaves room to emphasize the vocal. The laid back and dreamy quality of this massive single perfectly captures the feeling of being in love and sets a mood that is distinctly California. The Peppermint Trolley Co - Baby You Come Rolling Across My Mind (US 1968) A Redlands, CA band that cut the original version of the Brady Bunch theme, the Trolleys specialized in breezy sunshine pop as evidenced on this lovely heartfelt tune from their only LP. The Beach Boys - Feel Flows (US 1971) Brian Wilson and Co. never quite recovered from the media fiasco that was Smile, but arguably, they wrote and released their finest material during the band's decline in popularity in the 70's. Afforded recording technology only few in the world could claim to own, their 70's output sounds ahead of their time due to both the clarity of the production and their experiments with electronics and synthesizers, as can be heard on this stunning number - one that hundreds of rock bands would mimic in the 90's.Harpers Bizzare - Witchi Tai To (US 1969) Santa Cruz sunshine pop masters that found early success with a few hits under their belt and featured a young Ted Templeman, who would go on to be a producer of many iconic pop hits. This sweet version of a Jim Pepper tune shows off both their soaring harmonies and the hallmark psychedelic production of the time. The Mamas and the Papas - Step Out (US 1971) Taken from the last album these legendary hit-makers would produce, this light and funky tune features a heavy rhythm by LA's wrecking crew studio musicians that offsets the sugary vocals of the group. It makes one wonder what direction they would have pursued had they continued into the 70's.The Millennium - It's You (US 1968) The studio project of fearless pop experimentalist Curt Boettcher, these LA misfits featured a cast of songwriters and singers that could each hold their own as solo artists. This proto Buckingham-Nicks era Fleetwood Mac-esque stunner is taken from their only album which is a masterpiece of soft harmony laden pop-psych. Yes - Sweetness (UK 1969) The love affair between UK bands and the US west coast harmony pop bands proved a source of constant reciprocated inspiration for both camps. Before veering head first into prog territory, Yes dipped their toes into a more jammed out version of harmony pop as heard on this early original from their debut. More evidence can be heard on their lovely take on The Byrds I See You from the same LP. The Orange Bicycle - Carry That Weight (UK 1969) Another west coast sound obsessed UK outfit that turns this Beatles classic into a proto Eagles harmony jam, they released one in LP in 1970 after a three year run of fine pop-psych singles.Ian Matthew's Southern Comfort - Tonight (UK 1970) Mr. Matthews nailed the west coast harmony pop so perfectly that you'd think he was a Los Angeles native. This is no surprise, as his previous outfit The Fairport Convention arguably may be one of the first UK bands to take on the west coast sound as their own. This smooth number is years ahead of it's time and foreshadows a sound that he and so many would take less than a decade later.Bread - It Don't Matter to Me (US 1969) It's only fitting to end this episode with a band whose sound would loom large over the 70's. Bread's ballads were extra personal, heartfelt and tender and foreshadowed both the sensitive singer-songwriter movement and AOR soft rock that would dominate the decade. Though the band featured three songwriters, David Gates was responsible for all of their singles and hits.

Van Halen November kicks off at Sunset Sound with Engineer/Producer/Author/Historian Brian Kehew coming in to Studio 2 for an amazing informative discussion. Brian was introduced to us at Sunset Sound through Ted Templeman biographer Greg Renoff just last week. He told us he had been in the Warner Brothers vault when he was hired to go through all the Van Halen outtakes and unreleased audio and we asked if he could come in studio that day. He agreed and this is that conversation. We have a 2nd installment of this interview that will be released this coming week. Thank you to Brian, Greg and long live Van Halen.
