Chris Gordon has been among the very best American pros since turning pro over 20 years ago. Clearly, he's been there, done that, including reaching as high as 44 in the world in 2013. Chris is well respected for his squash insight as is evident through regular squash tv commentating appearances for stateside PSA events, and he took the mic again for the recent World Junior Championships in Houston. Chris and I recap the event which turned out to be the most exciting WJC in recent memory. Many thanks to our sponsor, Sunrise Courts who are working towards growing the game. According to Autism Speaks, the non-profit research and awareness organization, 2.7 percent of children and 2.2 percent of adults in the United States have autism. So, in a church of just 200, at least two children and two adults probably have autism. Your church probably has autistic brothers and sisters attending.Autistic people can feel intimidating to those of us who don’t understand much about it.Autistic folks may or may not be able to read social cues, may dress differently, speak differently or not speak at all. They may not easily fit into the usual Sunday school classes, youth groups, and adult community groups. They may need quiet spaces, breaks from worship or group meetings, and predictability. The key to reaching out to the autistic and their families is knowing what it is.. and how to love and serve them well as the body of Christ! https://women.pcacdm.org/how-can-the-church-serve-families-touched-by-autism/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What does the Bible have to say about divisive people in the church? As society is presently ripped apart with divisions on every issue, the church is likewise bombarded with divisive people who are using the current cultural divide to mimic the culture and tear apart the body of Christ. Great wisdom is needed from the Lord to help believers discern how to stand for truth without compromise, in way that brings honor and glory to the Lord. https://www.beautifulchristianlife.com/blog/what-does-the-bible-say-about-dealing-with-divisive-people-in-the-church | https://www.agradio.org/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

About The Guest(s):The guest(s) for this episode are Coalt Robinson and Jay Wipf. They are the hosts of the Renewal Cast podcast.Summary: Coalt Robinson and Jay Wipf introduce a new series on human sexuality based on the New Reformation catechism by Chris Gordon. They discuss the importance of addressing this issue in the church and society, as well as the need for a biblical perspective. They emphasize the authority of Scripture and the danger of compromising on biblical truths. They also highlight the role of the church in ministering to those struggling with sexual sins and the importance of hospitality and love in engaging with others. The hosts stress the gospel-centered nature of the conversation and the need for Christians to stand firm in their beliefs, even if it costs them socially or culturally. Key Takeaways:Scripture alone is the ultimate authority for Christians, and it should guide our understanding of human sexuality.Christians should not compromise on biblical truths, even if it goes against cultural norms or popular opinions. The church has a responsibility to minister to those struggling with sexual sins and to offer a gospel-centered message of hope and redemption.Christians should strive to be hospitable and loving towards those with different views on sexuality, while still holding to biblical truths.Quotes:"Scripture alone is our ultimate authority, not popes or church tradition or church councils." - Coalt Robinson"We can't compromise on what God calls sin. It makes us liars." - Coalt Robinson"The purpose and joy of life is knowing Christ and glorifying Him." - Coalt Robinson"The church is a hospital for sinners. We all need Christ." - Jay Wipf"Good works lead to goodwill, that leads to good news." - Coalt Robinson

He answers a question from Kevin about those Dispensationalists who agree with the Reformed on Matthew 24 and being "left behind." P. on why Dr Clark is skeptical that Romans 11 promises a future ingathering of Jews. The opening features Chris Gordon of the Escondido United Reformed Church. Next week, we'll release the first episode of Season 3 of Private Equity Deals, this time focusing on deals in the middle market. As an interlude between Season 2 and 3, this week's show is a classic – it's Bain Capital and KKR's take private of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in 2006. The $33 billion club deal was the largest private equity transaction in history at the time and was significantly larger than any deal since KKR's famous run at RJR Nabisco in the late 1980s. The HCA deal showed the private equity industry the scale of what was possible and set the stage for both mega buyouts and public to private deals ever since. My guest is Chris Gordon, a Partner and Co-Head of Private Equity in North America for Bain Capital. Bain Capital today is one of the world's largest private, multi-asset investing firms that oversees over $165 billion in assets. Seventeen years ago, Chris was a younger member of Bain Capital's HCA deal team. HCA is one of the nation's leading healthcare services providers, with over 182 hospitals and 2,300 sites of care in 20 states and the United Kingdom. Its origins date back to 1968 when it was one of the first hospital companies in the United States. Our conversation covers HCA's history, the private equity environment in the mid-2000s, and the impetus for the HCA buyout. We discuss the complexity of navigating a large-scale transaction, conducting due diligence discretely, navigating the financial crisis, and what happened to the company. We turn to HCA's return to the public markets through an IPO in 2011, Bain Capital's eventual exit of the investment, and the implications of the deal on the firm and industry. While on the west coast, Jon and Justin were invited by Chris Gordon (host of Abounding Grace Radio and pastor of Escondido United Reformed Church) to do some recording. This episode is the third portion of that conversation. The guys talk about what it’s like for an evangelical to walk into a confessional church. What is hard? What is confusing? Yet what is it that’s so attractive? What are pastoral concerns for those making the transition out of emotionalism? Semper Reformanda: Jon and Justin talk about differences between emotionalism and confessionalism--when it comes to corporate worship. In short, we come to receive from the Lord. What does that mean? What does that look like? Part 1 of this conversation Part 2 of this conversation
Transitions are one of the toughest things both in life and on the yoga mat, yet you can indeed train yourself to make them easy and maybe even effortless. When approaching a transition, in order to get to the place of effortless action, there are three key things that I've discovered need to be intention placed around them.Transitions are happening all the time--everyday moments to the larger times in life--job changes, menopause, retirement, adding children to your family, marriages. We also feel the pull of nature's transitions through the seasons, and the cosmic or astrological transitions with the moon and even the planets, so it's natural that they can sometimes feel clunky and awkward or frustrating and rigid rather than smooth and effortless, flowing. But it is possible to create a way of being that makes transitions more effortless, whether they are big or small and whether they are tangible or energetic.Grab the full show notes and resources at www.cairnyogawellness.com/podcast33 and subscribe and listen wherever you catch your podcasts:
While on the west coast, Jon and Justin were invited by Chris Gordon (host of Abounding Grace Radio and pastor of Escondido United Reformed Church) to do some recording. This episode is the second portion of that conversation. The guys discuss the Great Commission. What is it? Is it a call to Christianize the nations? Or is it the preaching of Jesus Christ for the justification of sinners? (Hint: It’s the latter.) Semper Reformanda: Jon and Justin talk about theonomy--how it confuses the law and obscures the gospel.

Nick is joined by Daily Mirror writer David Yates to discuss the latest news and events from around the racing world. They lead with the news that the Grand National has received an entry of just 31 horses from British trainers. In a bid to work out why, and what this means for the sport as a whole, Nick talks to BHA Head of Jump Handicapping Martin Greenwood, who has some strong words on the subject. Among other topics discussed are the new French whip rules, the end to the "bedding in" period in the UK, and Gordon Elliott's £1000 medication fine. Nick is at Huntingdon for the Sidney Banks hurdle, which Nick and Dave preview, while, having returned last night from Riyadh, Nick brings back news from Emblem Road's connections and a surprise guest who has travelled the world working in the sport. Elsewhere, trainer Chris Gordon looks ahead to his two runners in Saturday's Betfair Hurdle.
While on the west coast, Jon and Justin were invited by Chris Gordon (host of Abounding Grace Radio and pastor of Escondido United Reformed Church) to do some recording. This episode is the first portion of that conversation. The guys discuss differences between the preaching of Christ and the preaching of self-improvement, problems with an over-emphasis on application in preaching, as well as the most important thing to look for in a church. Semper Reformanda: Jon and Justin give a recap of their recent trip to California, which included recording content with The Babylon Bee, The Pactum, NoCo Radio, The Heidelcast, and Abounding Grace Radio. In this episode, Dan sits down with Abby Karsten and Chris Gordon. Abby is the Women's Ministry Leader of the Kirk of the Hills Church in St. Louis, and Christine (Chris) is an author of Bible studies for women and co-founder of At His Feet. They talk a bit about their work in their churches and on writing bible study curriculum, but spend most of the conversation on a subject, quite literally, close to all our hearts: the body. Our bodies are not incidental, "we are integrated, spiritual and physical beings" Chris insists. Our bodies are how we experience the goodness of God's creation: watching the dawn break, hearing Beethoven's 5th, eating Indian food, holding a baby. And yet they can also be the location, and often the source of profound pain, shame, and longing. None of this is foreign to our incarnate savior, the trio reminds us. Jesus took on a body, was DEPENDENT on the body of his mother, worked with his body, and yes, probably sometimes got splinters. This was a great show as we chatted with Chris Gordon and Amel Mudjzic, Cloud Security Architects with Trace3. Salespeople take note: We started talking about how vendor websites, vendor webinars, and sales calls are 75% sales/25% technical, and that needs to be completely flipped around. We then got into the four pillars of cloud security, their methodology and how to best secure cloud deployments. We finished on knowledge and career deployment, how they constantly learn, and tips for padawans. Hope you enjoy it!

This is such a special episode. Today I am joined by my dad, Chris Gordon, to talk about loss, love, and finding hope when we need it most. Today's episode gives you a look into our family and the events that led us to this point in our life. We talk about living in the now and how even when everything is stripped away, hope remains. We learn through great loss, great love, and great grief that we are never alone. You are never alone.Choose Hope [06:00]“When everything is torn away, it leaves you wasted. It leaves you where you are, you don't know how to react, and you don't know what to do from that point on. It's not something anyone prepares you to deal with.”“I don't know how this is going to turn out, but we can choose hope or we can choose despair. We have a choice.”“We need to look for the light. We need to endure."Now is your Moment [14:20]“Living in the moment is the only defense against the fear of the future. Living in the moment is all there is.”“Now is now. The past is the past. The future hasn't come yet. After this now, is the next now.”The Spiritual Toolbox [19:10]“All you can do to change circumstances, outside of the medical professions, is to ask for your desires. Not only did we pray, but we had church families, students, and friends that did all they could do to help someone in danger- pray.”“This book is a personal journey of spirit after the worst happens- how to live, heal, and the lessons that I didn't expect.”“My job is to discipline my freewill in order to minimize my sense of selfishness and learn to maximize my selflessness.”“Whenever I remember help coming to me, to change my circumstance, it came in a form of another person- a person actually doing something for my benefit that was not required for their betterment.”Your Energy Never Ends [33:49]“If you ask for help, and it shows up, there's a certain way to receive it. It's not just saying thank you, it's receiving it inside. It's going and doing the same for someone else and passing on that feeling.”“We fight with life- it's violent, unfair- but we struggle to stay here. Death, itself, is peaceful.”“Being born is a holy thing. When you exit, it's the same thing. The energy doesn't stop, it just moves on to somewhere else. You just leave the glove the energy is in here.”Love One Another [43:00]“It is wisdom to understand that one must use one's life to make a difference- to do good, to help those in need without hesitation or judgement. To give other people the best you have-all people, not merely some people.”“Live in purpose, with purpose growing your awareness of opportunities to love one another.”“Hope is important. It's an attitude, a decision to hope and act out of hope.”Hope Guides [51:00]“Hope guides your actions.”“As we become more wise on how to take care of ourselves, we inevitably become more wise about how to do that for others. ‘Do unto others as you would do unto yourself.”“What's left when a storm comes through and tears away everything to the foundation? These are the foundational principles that will withstand the test of time.”Act On Your InspirationDonate to the Anne E. Chris Gordon loves what he does. He especially loves it when he has no juicy stories to bring home other than, "I worked with a bunch of nice people today that wanted to get their ducks in a row, so we set that up." He wishes younger people would set up their estates to have peace of mind, not just for themselves, but for those who will either care for them in the situation of an illness or accident, or those they leave behind. He has some great tips to add some humor to what can be an uncomfortable part of growing up. Even couples married for decades put this off and then there is no easy way to make transfers and act on behalf of the loved on or children if these pieces aren't in place.
