Lets be straight here, not every show needs to play crummy Christmas themed music as Christmas nears! As a prime example, this edition of the Coast Highway Shuffle has NO Christmas music. None. Nada. It DOES, however, feature awesome tracks by artists like Sunsquabi, The Cure, ZZ Top, Free, Sunchild, David Gilmour, Kurt Vile, Marc Scibilia, Cass Elliott, Moon Taxi, The Beatles and MANY MORE! Enjoy! {and Merry Christmas!!}
THIS edition of the CHS is 2 days after Christmas, which explains why there is NO Christmas themed music in it! INSTEAD, there IS great music from artists like ELP, The Who, Ambrosia, The Meters, Billy Strings, Dave Edmunds, KT Tunstall, Larkin Poe, Black Sabbath and MANY more! Enjoy!! {and an early Happy New Year 2025!}

Join Sis and Big Pops for a fun, fun talk about one of the things we love most—Nerd Stuff. We discuss our fav bits of nerd news: 28 Years Later, what constitutes the PG-13 rating, Sony pulling all Spiderman stuff, John Cena and Eric Andre in Little Brother, Reacher Season 3 trailer, Rob Pattison was Batman not just Edward in Twilight (in case anyone forgot), casting for the Harry Potter TV-Show, and casting of “The Artist.” For bingeing, Big Pops has watched the Day of the Jackal and the new Dune TV show on Max. He is still loving reading the Jonathan Hickman rune of FF and is listening to Christmas Music. Sis has watched Christmas in Paradise, Wicked Part 1, Klaus, George C. Scott's A Christmas Carol, and has been re-watching Harry Potter. Then, Pops shared his pull list! This week he introduces us to Superman Issue 20 by DC; Holiday Tales to Astonish, a one-shot by Marvel; as well as Hornsby and Halo Issue 1 by Image. His new number 1 is West Coast Avengers by DC. His Book of the Week is Justice League Unlimited Issue 1 by DC. We then reviewed the movie Wicked.

Welcome to episode 133 of Holly Jolly X'masu! In this episode, I talk about the 1963 album, “$100 Million Christmas In Stereophonic Sounds,” featuring Hiroshi Ishimaru conducting the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. I hope you enjoyed Hiroshi Ishimaru's “$100 Million Christmas In Stereophonic Sounds.” It's really a fantastic album. I'm sorry that this episode is a little lighter on content than most episodes. I had a lot going on around Christmas and really needed to take a mental break for a couple weeks. I'm also struggling to get over a stomach bug, so that made it hard to devote a lot of time to researching and writing this episode. I'm going to try to get another episode out before the end of the month, and then start working on recording and digitizing the records I got for Christmas. Be sure to listen in next time when I talk about singer and actress Mari Henmi's 1971 album, “Mari Henmi & X'mas Evening.” It's an interesting album, sort of a one-woman musical play. It has some great performances so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you'd like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know. Remember, I've added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you'd like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I've also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I'll be trying to add more. All proceeds will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!

DateDecember 24, 2024SynopsisIn this sermon, we explore how God disrupts and rewrites our expected endings through the lens of a surprising Christmas carol and a fresh look at the nativity story. By examining how the traditional interpretation of "no room at the inn" might actually be a story of radical hospitality, we discover a God who consistently shows up in unexpected places and subverts our assumptions about how things "must" end. This message of divine disruption reminds us that our seemingly fixed endings are never truly final in God's economy of grace and possibility.ReferencesScripture: [Luke 2:1–20](URL here) About The Local ChurchFor more information about The Local Church, visit our website. When you think about Christmas, what is the song that is the soundtrack for this season of your life? Maybe it's Joy to the World, O Holy Night, or White Christmas. But have you ever thought about the very first Christmas song that was ever sung?A lot of us would probably think it's Hark! The Herald Angels Sing from Luke 2:14. But that wasn't the first Christmas song. The first Christmas song actually came nine months before that – it was Mary's song.This time of year isn't the same for everyone. There are many who struggle with the holidays and many who may be coming out of a season of suffering. Today on Fearless, I'm taking a look at Mary's story. I hope it is a reminder that, despite what we have going on, we are to be like Mary and praise God despite our worldly circumstances. Six-time Grammy winner, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer, and Kennedy Center honoree Amy Grant joins us to chat about the pursuit of honesty in songwriting, the stories behind some of her songs, and her catalog of modern day Christmas classics. PART ONEPaul and Scott chat about the idea of a "definitive" version of a Christmas song, discuss their favorites, debate about Christmas songs they love and hate, and delve into Scott's elementary school crush on Amy Grant. PART TWOOur in-depth interview with Amy GrantABOUT AMY GRANTPerhaps the most influential pioneer of the Contemporary Christian Music genre, Amy Grant released her first album while still in high school. Her fourth album, 1982's Age to Age, found unprecedented success with hit singles such as “Sing Your Praise to the Lord” and “El Shaddai.” Age to Age topped the Christian album chart for 85 weeks, earned Amy her first Grammy award, and became the first Christian album to be certified Platinum by the RIAA. Her 1984 album Straight Ahead spawned hits with Amy's original compositions “Thy Word” and “Angels,” and became the first Christian album to land on the Billboard 200. By the mid-1980s, she further crossed over to mainstream success when “Find a Way,” which she wrote with Michael W. Smith, hit the Top 40 on Billboard's pop chart. The following year, Amy reached the top of the pop chart with “The Next Time I Fall,” a duet with Peter Cetera. Her 1991 album Heart in Motion sold 5 million copies and spawned four Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including the self-penned hits “Baby Baby” and “Every Heartbeat.” That same year, she enjoyed another Top 10 pop hit as a songwriter with Michael W. Smith's “Place in This World.” Amy continued to find mainstream success in the mid-1990s with singles such as “House of Love,” a duet with her now-husband Vince Gill, as well as the songs “Lucky One” and “Takes a Little Time,” which she wrote with Keith Thomas and Wayne Kirkpatrick, respectively. Starting with 1983's A Christmas Album, holiday music has been an important part of Amy Grant's artistry. She has since released the albums Home for Christmas, which was certified three-times Platinum; A Christmas to Remember; Tennessee Christmas; and The Animals' Christmas, a collaborative album with Art Garfunkel featuring songs by Jimmy Webb that explore the nativity story from the perspective of the animals. Amy's original songs “Tennessee Christmas” and “Breath of Heaven” have become modern day holiday standards. Her Christmas concerts, often featuring husband Vince Gill and longtime collaborator Michael W. Smith, have become a holiday tradition. To date, Amy has released twenty studio albums and has sold over 30 million records worldwide. Seventeen of her albums have reached #1 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart, more than any other artist in history. She has won 6 Grammy awards, 26 Dove awards, and has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Amy has received honorary doctorates from two universities, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2021. She was a recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievement in 2022.

I addition to our year end Christmas Music spectacular game we are pleased to bring you our review of "The Christmas Chronicles" movie starring Kurt Russell. This movie may portray the coolest onscreen Santa ever...and he even knows how to drift a Challenger! This review originally aired in KF Show #281 in 2023. Movie Summary: Two kids who have lost their dad to tragedy are on the very edge of tragedy themselves…the tragedy of not believing! Teddy the older brother is turning to crime, and Katy the younger sister is innocent. They catch Santa in the act at their house, jump in his sleigh, scare the bejesus out of him, lose the reindeer and the presents, crash the sleigh, steal a red 2009 Dodge Challenger, jump it, end up in jail, then a chop shop, and then have to get it all back together by Christmas morning or the world explodes. Even worse, during the chaos they also lost Santa's magic hat, which is the think that makes the sleigh fly! At the end though they make it just in time to Save Christmas and Santa finally reveals (in the coolest of Kurt Russell moves) that the hat was a ruse. As Santa Claus himself could (of course) fly the whole time and the whole crazy night was to show Teddy - who was suffering from the loss of his dad - how regain the belief in something himself, and something far bigger. If you're only in it for the cars, the Challenger shines wonderfully. We believe Four Star Motorsports did the prep....and we THINK we have identified the Canadian stunt driver too!
