Our conversation also covers mobile phone use, how we talk to ourselves and the necessity of a good nights sleep (which Pauline says is the alarm bell for mental health). My guest on this episode is Pauline Clarke, Mindnua and she has trained in the following practices and therapies:• Mindfulness Facilitator & Counselling• M.B.C.T. (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy)• Reiki Master Teaching• N.L.P. (Neuro Linguistic Programming) • Solution Based Counselling• E.F.T. Ordú tugtha éanlaith chlóis a choinneáil sa chró. Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has ordered people who keep poultry to put their flocks in a shed from next Monday to prevent the spread of bird flu. Tá ordú tugtha ag an Aire Talmhaíochta Charlie McConalogue do dhaoine a choinníonn éanlaith chlóis a gcuid ealtan a chur i gcró ón Luan seo chugainn de leisce go leathfadh an fliú éanúil. The order was issued under Animal Health and Welfare regulations. Is faoi rialacháin um Shláinte agus Leas Ainmhithe a eisíodh an t-ordú. Bird flu is already spreading among wild birds in this country and the authorities are afraid that birds in captivity will also catch the disease. Tá an fliú éanúil ag scaipeadh i measc éan fiáin sa tír seo cheana féin agus tá faitíos ar na húdaráis go dtógfaidh éin i ngéibheann an galar chomh maith. It was confirmed yesterday that a swan that died in Co Cavan had bird flu. Dearbhaíodh inné go raibh an fliú éanúil ar eala a fuair bás i gCo an Chabháin. All poultry keepers are being urged to exercise extreme caution and apply biosecurity measures. Táthar ag achainí ar gach duine a choinníonn éanlaith chlóis a bheith fíorairdeallach agus beartais bhithshlandála a chur i gcion. Avian flu was found among flocks of birds in a kennel in north Dublin and Kilmanton last month. Aimsíodh an fliú éanúil i measc ealtaí éan i ngéibheann i dtuaisceart Bhaile Átha Cliath agus i gCill Mhantáin an mhí seo caite. It was the first outbreak of the disease among birds in captivity since last Christmas. B'in an chéad ráig den ghalar i measc éan i ngéibheann ón Nollaig seo caite. It has also recently been confirmed that seabirds have the flu in north Dublin. Deimhníodh le gairid freisin go bhfuil an fliú ar éin mhara i dtuaisceart Bhaile Átha Cliath. In a statement, the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine indicated that there is no risk to people who consume poultry or other poultry products, but that they should always be cooked properly. I ráiteas, thug an Roinn Talmhaíochta, Bia agus Mara le fios nach bhfuil aon bhaol ann do dhaoine a chaitheann éineoil ná táirgí eile éanlaithe, ach gur chóir i gcónaí iad a chócaráil i gceart. Only the truly awful case of avian influenza being contracted by humans has ever been reported. Níor tuairiscíodh riamh go dtí seo ach an fíor-chorrchás den fhliú éanúil a bheith tolgtha ag daonnaithe. The authorities in England have ordered poultry farmers abroad to keep their birds in cages from Monday as well. Tá ordú tugtha ag na húdaráis i Sasana do lucht éanlaithe clóis thall a gcuid éan a choinneáil i gcró ón Luan chomh maith.

Justin Kelly is singer and lyric writer with The Sons Of Southern Ulster. Hailing from Bailieborough, Co Cavan, the Sons of Southern Ulster includes David Meagher, who lives in the Ballina/Killaloe area and Justin Kelly based in Boston. Last year the Sons got together to release an album ('Foundry Folk Songs') of songs about growing up in Cavan in the early 80s! Despite the Cavan roots, the content is relevant to pretty much all of rural Ireland of the time. The album has been received very favourably, with great reviews and receiving an Irish Times Song of the Week accolade. Their music has brought comparisons with The Fall, Sleaford Mods and A House. The songs focus on life in rural Ireland in the 80s, providing a warts-and-all description of a place that was both innocent and abrasive. The album was produced by Daragh Dukes at his Castleconnell Studios and recorded at various locations in Ireland and the USA. Vocals were recorded and engineered by Boston music stalwart David Minehan (of the Neighborhoods) at his Wooly Mammoth Sound studio, not long before he headed off on a world tour as guitarist with the legendary Replacements. The current band line up includes Justin Kelly (Boston, vocals), David Meagher (guitars), Paddy Glackin (Perth, bass) and Noel Larkin (Meath, drums).

14th September 2017 @ Cavan County Museum, Virgina Road, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan. When one thinks of folklore study and folklore collecting south of the border, the Protestant community is not normally the first sector of society to spring to mind. A major collecting project being undertaken by the National Folklore Collection, focusing on Irish Protestants as a cultural group, seeks to redress this imbalance. In this ‘decade of centenaries' what does it tell us about Protestants in independent Ireland? Did the new state live up to the non-sectarian ideals of the 1916 Proclamation (‘cherishing the children of the nation equally)? History Ireland editor, Tommy Graham, was joined for a lively and enlightening round-table discussion by Deirdre Nuttall (National Folklore Collection), Niall Meehan (Griffith College), Críostoir MacCartaigh (National Folklore Collection), Malachy Hand (Loughcrew Megalithic Centre) and Ian D'Alton (TCD). This History Ireland Hedge School was supported by the Commemorations Unit of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and hosted by Cavan County Museum.
