Dr. Omolara is back! And, she's back with our new podcast Funding Your Healthcare Vision. We're back to remind each and every single one of you — looking to start and build your own mission-driven healthcare for-profit or non-profit business or practice — that we believe in you. We believe that you can change the world, and we know that you have what it takes to make your dreams come true. But here's the thing: if you don't have a funding strategy, your success is going to be sabotaged from the start. And if you're a black or brown woman entrepreneur trying to start or grow a business in health care, using any other sort of funds to elevate your healthcare practice or organization's growth can severely sabotage your success. Is bootstrapping your healthcare vision sabotaging your success before you even get started? Are you looking at equity-based funding and high-interest loans opportunities that will put you in debt and lose valuable stake and say in your own healthcare practices mission and values? There is money ready to be placed in the hands of Black and Brown women in medicine with an idea, a dream, or a vision that helps underserved communities, families, men, women, and children. And, we've branded our podcast to focus on sharing with you strategies that can get you funded (without dipping into your personal bank accounts, giving away equity to VCs and angels, and taking out a high-interest business loan). In this episode of the Melanin & Medicine Podcast, Dr. Omolara is going to support you in getting endless funding from partnership opportunities, so that you could focus on doing what you do best: provide much-needed healthcare to underserved communities that need it most.  What You'll Learn From This Episode:How your intrapreneurial strategies have already prepared you for entrepreneurial partnership opportunitiesThe difference between the types funding available to you and what each can do for your growing healthcare practiceWhy partnerships and collaboration are important to get where you want your practice to goDr. Omolara's own personal story and how she raised nearly $1mil in funding to build a social justice healthcare practice in the community she cares deeply about is dedicated to providing careFind the show notes at:Read the transcript for this episode at: Send Dr. Omolara a voice message at the link below, whether you have a question about funding a mission-driven health practice or a response to this episode. Yeah, you know, entrepreneurs, I think have some similar traits, right, we're typically a little bit stubborn, you know, have a lot of drive and motivation and don't like being kept in a box of thinking outside of that box.”Rob: “I mean, I think there's no right or wrong way.  On who you partner with, there's tons of stories, and it could be a solo founder, multiple founder and their stats saying like people invest in multiple founders more than solo founders.”Rob: “ The way we consume content and the way we consume podcasts has just evolved with the evolution of technology. And I think it's still a great time to have a podcast to leverage that for many different ways and things you want to do, whether that's, you know, driving sales and potential clients by starting relationship through a podcast and selling but driving that relationship to the keynote topics that you want to talk about to, you know, try to make it into more of a monetization platform and a really kind of fun show.”Collin: “ We thought everybody should use their podcast to prospect or, you know, call it prospect, but really build relationships. And not everybody wants to use it that way. We've started to learn the different ways that people can use a podcast to drive revenue. And we've started to identify who we serve best and who we don't.”Rob: “ And the lessons that many of us need to learn is that we can create businesses to serve everyone. But we don't need to, we got to niche out, we got to find that authentic, you can call it your tribe, whatever, right riches and niches, you need to find kind of where you can go deep before you can go wide.”Collin: “I still believe, as an entrepreneur, like sales is the number one skill that you should have. And if you don't, let's say you're a technical founder and you build stuff, then I think it makes a lot of sense to have a co-founder that sells, because you could have the best product, you could have the best service, if nobody can sell it, then nobody cares.”Collin: “Just get started. maybe you just start it as a side hustle first. What skills do you need in order to start whatever business you're thinking about. Or maybe you've already started and you're trying to get to the next level to go all in on entrepreneurship and maybe give up the 9 to 5. Surround yourself with some like-minded people. Have some people that you can seek counsel from. I wasn't like, oh I have an idea for an app that everybody can use. I was like, I'm uncomfortable and how can I feel better?”Kristen: "I learned how to zoom out and see the whole thing and what needed to happen to keep all the things incrementally moving forward, and when was it time to dive down. I've been able to use that. Almost every project I've worked on since has been a banger, if we're gonna be off brand here." Kristen: "I had this core of people who are amazing, and it's like a ripple effect to the pond. I just continued to expand the people that I have access to, the amazing people that those people have access to, and I've learned more in the last four and a half years."Kristen: "You can't foresee all kinds of things that are gonna happen or gonna change what you have to do. And I can use every ounce of my brain power and energy to make a plan that I think is a beautiful great strategic plan with advisors and investors and everybody is psyched about. And then something could happen and it all changes. And knowing that I have to always have the tools in my toolkit to be emotionally well through all of these changes and to throw out plans that sometimes took a long time to craft, is hard."Rob: "I'm not a big fan of big goal setting. And by nature of it, I think we kind of set ourselves a few big lofty goals and as soon as we fall off, it's just like we lose it. Might as well put a marker in the sand. You put a marker in the sand. You plant that flag. And that might take you one month, six months, it might take you a year, and you might go backwards. But you know what, you can always pick up that flag and move it up a little bit and move it back to make it easier, move it out if it seems too easy."Kristen: "Find your people. Get accountability partners that will push you, and also that will support you and hug you when things are hard. Cheerleaders and critics – have both. And that can be through professional organizations or something people do on their own, but it's critical."Connect with Kristen and Brilliantly through the links belowLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristenrcarbone/Email: kristen@brilliantly.coInstagram: @brilliantly.coWebsite: www.brilliantly.coDon't forget to subscribe and leave a review.Connect with Rob:www.beacons.page/robnapoliwww.linkedin.com/in/robnapIG: @rise_up.robnapSpecial offer for #BearNation listeners who are interested in trying Brilliantly Warm, use this 10% off discount code WELCOME10.We have teamed up with Phin, a social impact marketing firm, to give back for each episode.
