"Why He Withdraws" is a follow-up to the last Figs & Teale episode, "Pursuer Problems," and it's Figs' turn for an "affect assembly" with Teale's help. After just a bit of stalling, Figs describes a recent negative judgment of Teale after she didn't text him when she was out with her friends like he asked her to and then went out paddling the next morning before he woke up.He describes these judgments as "inconsiderate," and then—hinting at the deeper vulnerability—"hypocritical" and "unreasonable."Figs, in feeling not considered by Teale (a more classically Pursuer sensitivity) actually started to access all the times he felt judged as the inconsiderate one (his deeper Withdrawer "not enough" sensitivity). He then, in touch with those feelings of not being good enough, tried to be "good" by not outwardly expressing those negative judgments of Teale—which Figs now knows was not actually the "right" thing to do.While walking through Figs' negative judgments and feeling not good enough, Teale demonstrates her acceptance and love of Figs—which is hard for Figs, who is struggling to let it in, and who feels like it's unacceptable not to be able to.In voicing that, however, Figs can see that Teale is also able to hold that "unacceptable" part of Figs, and he is able to experience relief and connection.

Stop labelling the things you don't like about yourself as flaw and shortcomings. Just because you wish something was different about yourself, doesn't mean it's wrong, weird or broken. Logically, we know we're not seeking perfection, but many of us are carrying invisible standards and expectations in our own heads that say "yeah but you should be doing better. Should celebrity and even preaching couples be relationship goals for us? The way we put people on a pedestal and idolize them brings a cold reality when we see their humanity and they fall off the pedestal. People are people first. Learn from the successful and those that have failed. Life has patterns all throughout. Our goal should be duty to the sustainability of the relationship. Emotion will come, but duty must be the priority if you want success in the relationship.
#84 - This week's topic is about relationships. As you all know, they are wonderful, but they can be difficult, too. We may happily journey with someone for a while, but our individuality can often lead us to diverge and go our own ways.Relationships are a choice. You can't pick your family, but you can decide how much you want them in your life. Same with you friends.Picking a business partner is a bigger choice. You are investing in an important aspect of your life. A huge aspect of your life. And then the biggest decision is choosing your spouse. You are committing to this one person to be with and love with and build a life with. As beautiful as it is, it's tricky. There is a lot of give and take, ebb and flow, highs and lows.Working with a business partner can be hard enough, but when that business partner is also your spouse, how do you combine the two, protect each one, and make both aspects of those relationships work?Well, I have brought a success story on today. I am speaking with Finley and Brooke Robinson who have figured out how to succeed at both. They have been married for 20 years, have three kids, work together in Brooke's online fitness business and both are building Fin's relationships coaching business. Two vastly different individuals with two different business styles and personalities. How do they do it?Well, listen in and observe the love and respect and the wisdom that they want to share to help you also succeed in working with your spouse. Show notes at:howtolife.com/084

In this episode we discuss the underlying reasons for getting into arguments, how you may experience the argument, your conflict style and what can be done to argue more effectively with your partner or others. What do you you consider to be an argument? Is is when someone shout at you or do you think you are in conflict if the other person has a different opinion? The way we view and interact in arguments is down to our previous learning about conflict, either in our family of origin, with friends or at school. We learn how to argue and how not to argue. Sometimes our strategies serve us well, often there are better ways of going about resolving differences. In this episode we talk about factors that contribute to one or the other partner initiating an argument and your different conflict styles. For example did you learn to appease others or to strike first pre-emptively? There are useful rules to bear in mind when wanting to resolve your differences in a way that makes both of you feel heard and understood.
Throughout Episode 1, PK and BK discuss everything from what the show is all about to some of their favorite things. They begin by describing their backyard, which is the main setting for the podcast, and then move into answering the question “what is a bevvy” and what does that mean to the show? The rest of the podcast covers many additional topics like the band TOOL, keeping the show organic, hysterical TikToks, and some of their favorite TV shows (including 30 Rock, Top Chef and Anthony Bourdain). This then leads into a chat about a new restaurant that has opened in Nashville, their favorite food to pair with champagne, and wanting to interact with their audience. In this episode Shilla and Michelle discuss social media and the effects it has on us. This conversation follows the public relationship breakdown between Sawatee and Quavo despite their "Couples Goals" on social media, the ladies take a critical look on exactly when Sawatee checked out emotionally and look at all the images, videos and appearances that we allow to influence us on social media. Is what is presented true? Should we be striving to achieve those presented goals of affluence, wealth, aesthetic? How do we use social media? Why do people look for social media validation? Where have these goal rules for social media come from? All that glitters is certainly not gold! As the ladies discuss the impact of falseness and the implication it has on emotional health and even physical health. This episode is a continuation of a previous interview with Jay’s wonderful fiancé, Carlie Roe. In the last recording, the couple explored some major obstacles Carlie has overcome to be where she is today, and in this interview they pick up where they left off on Carlie’s evolution. Carlie discusses working through old narratives and limiting belief systems that caused a lot of self-doubt while entering into her new career, and she talks about some lessons related to delayed gratification. Jay and Carlie also get into the details of why Carlie made the choice to stop drinking alcohol, and why she still hasn’t had a sip in over 3 years. There’s even some relationship and sex talk in this one. All the bases are covered – no pun intended. In this episode, Paul and Stacey will talk about a persistent and repetitive kerfuffle that they used to have often in the car when Paul was driving, and it’s a kerfuffle that a lot of couples can relate to. They’re going to share a clip from their previous three day live immersion event, the Relationship Breakthrough Retreat, where they ended up sharing the story of that kerfuffle in great detail. It all revolved around how Paul drives, and to give a little context to that, Paul is a very confident driver and can drive pretty fast. He spent more than a decade of his youth as a professional driver and so he’s always keen when he’s driving. But with the fast driving, Stacey, who is not a fan of intensity, used to constantly have issues when they were on the road. She actually used to be terrified, and that would in turn distract Paul.He used to get pissed off about it because he felt like Stacey didn’t trust him and her reactions would endanger them on the road. That became a trigger for Paul and he didn’t know how to deal with it. Stacey tried to sort it out by shifting her reactions from yelling and making all sorts of sudden movements, to tapping her hand, which meant that she was still terrified. That was until one night when they were driving and Stacey realized there was a huge difference in their eyesight.Paul could see really far ahead, and that’s what made his driving so good despite going fast. Stacey on the other hand couldn’t see as far, and so to her, Paul always seemed to be driving fast somewhat in darkness which is what made her feel scared. From then on, she started leaning on that skill that Paul had that she didn’t, and that was the breakthrough for both of them that put an end to the kerfuffle. Stay tuned for more on that and how you can apply the lessons from it into profoundly changing your marriage.Key Points Discussed:The job Paul had for 14 years and the valuable lessons he learned from it (01:26)The lions coming at you on the road (02:57)The high insurance rates in Philadelphia because of crazy drivers (06:59)Paul’s disdain for her Stacey’s overreaction and her not trusting him (08:34)How redirecting all his focus inside the car caused him to loose focus outside the car (11:03)Seeing far and speeding through the darkness (14:09)Raising your standard for yourself and lowering your expectations of others (17:42)The shift in perspective that changed everything (19:13)Additional Resources:The 14-Day Boost Programwww.MyRelationshipDevelopmentCommunity.comwww.RelationshipBreakthroughRetreat.com-Ready for the next Relationship Breakthrough Retreat?Click here to get your ticket now!-You can find this episode and more at:MartinoPodcast.com-Subscribe to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google, Stitcher or anywhere else you listen to your podcasts. If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
