On this episode of Headliners Greg is joined by Emma of CROOKED TEETH to talk about their new single DRINK BLEACH (Out 12 May).Crooked Teeth started in early 2017 simply as an outlet for founding member Tyson Evans with no grandeur vision in mind other than to make music as a form of catharsis. Since then, the moniker has evolved into a hard hitting, tried and true rock band with the addition of vocalist/guitarist Emma Oakley and drummer Jason Hayes. In 2022, the trio loaded themselves, gear and aspirations in a minivan and set out to rock faces and make new memories. At festivals such as Aftershock and Welcome To Rockville alongside personal favorites like My Chemical Romance and The Smashing Pumpkins as well as headline dates crisscrossing between both coasts, they earned new fans with their big smiles, potty mouth humor and undeniably catchy two to three minute rock anthems. In between touring the band released three singles with the intent of moving closer and closer to a debut full length which they are now hard at work on. The third and final single of 2022, "Promise", landed a ton of support from Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora and a whopping 165 spins in one month on Sirius XM's OCTANE channel. Crooked Teeth closed out the year with sold out opening slots alongside Boys Like Girls, Dead Poet Society and are ready to kick off 2023 with their brand hard hitting self proclaimed introvert anthem "Loser" featuring Cami Petyn dropping on January 20th. With a new album on the horizon, the band is headed full steam towards chasing down big dreams and creating a family out of new fans.CONNECT WITH CROOKED TEETHInstagram - TwitterSUPPORT THIS SHOWSUBSCRIBE TO YOUR LIFE THE MIXTAPE MAGAZINE

https://www.drstevenlin.com/airway-orthodontics-barry-raphael/What if Crooked Teeth weren't inherited? It would change our whole approach to orthodontic braces if we knew we could intervene or even prevent braces. Integrative or preventative orthodontics take on this exact philosophy, that the jaw should develop straight teeth naturally. Dental practitioners use functional diagnoses and interceptive treatment planning to address the causes of crooked teeth. The approach often means starting earlier, between 5-10 for example when kids' teeth are being replaced by adult teeth, instead of when permanent teeth are finalized. In the final episode for season 1, my guest is Dr. Barry Raphael, an orthodontist for 33 years, who changed the character of his practice to address airway and functional muscle habits. He wants his transition to serve as a model for how the priorities of the profession can and should change. He has brought many airway-focused techniques into his practice.Dr. Raphael works with children as young as 4 years old to address early breathing, posture, and sleep habits to minimize facial shape changes and crooked teeth. In this episode, we take a deep dive into his philosophy and approach and how parents can find similar approaches for their children. You can read more at the Raphael Centre for Orthodontics in Clifton, New Jersey.https://www.morethanstraightteeth.com/

When we dig to the root cause, we find that modern orthodontics may be missing the cause of crooked teeth. Dr. Sandra Kahn began her work in orthodontics with a specialty in physical anthropology at the University of California in Berkeley focusing her studies on human craniofacial growth and development. After 22 years of clinical experience in orthodontics treating thousands of patients, Dr. Kahn was not satisfied with traditional orthodontics as a solution for treating her own children. In 2013, she retired from "traditional" orthodontics to focus in orthodontics related to a healthy airway, with a concentration on pediatric prevention of long-term Obstructive Sleep ApneaHer approach is to treat the entire face and not just the teeth. Dr. Kahn has been invited to serve on craniofacial anomalies teams at both Stanford University and the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF).Dr. Sandra Kahn is an author and international lecturer on the topic of airway centric orthodontics. In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about body image, and their personal relationships with their bodies. They reflect on how we've all been conditioned to see only certain bodies as beautiful, and how difficult (seemingly impossible) it can be to transcend this harmful conditioning. Especially for women, because the conditioning is that much more intense. Both share deep-seated insecurities they carry and how their relationships with these insecurities have and have not changed. As they explore the body-positivity movement, they also look at our excessively triggered society and realize they are triggered by how triggered people can be. This is one of their most revealing conversations to date. Readings: Anne Lamott “Oh my God, what if you wake up someday, and you're 65, or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written, or you didn't go swimming in those warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? It's going to break your heart. Don't let this happen.” “Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft. I think perfectionism is based on the obsessive belief that if you run carefully enough, hitting each stepping-stone just right, you won't have to die. The truth is that you will die anyway and that a lot of people who aren't even looking at their feet are going to do a whole lot better than you, and have a lot more fun while they're doing it.”
