NYC-based Hungarian drummer Ferenc Nemeth is a Grammy-award-winning musician and educator who continues to push the boundaries of jazz drumming, composition and education with his unique approach of self-development and artistry. Nemeth has been one of the most sought after drummers both, in Europe and the United States with a lineage from a musical family, lending him a unique dynamism and versatility fostered from a very early age. From his early days at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Thelonius Monk Insitute of Jazz in Los Angeles, Nemeth has learned from and worked with the world's finest jazz musicians and groups including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Terence Blanchard, Kenny Werner, the Billy Childs Trio, Bob Sheppard, Dave Carpenter, John Clayton, Jimmy Heath, The Henry Mancini Orchestra amongst others. An ever-present thirst for exploration and experimentation has seen Nemeth travel widely and play with musicians from a stunning variety of backgrounds and countries. This occupation in turn, has also resulted in Nemeth's regular participation in workshops and teaching programs around the world. We catch up in this informal chat after our artist residency at the Bimbache openART Festival to unpack some serious themes revolving around the challenges musicians face today in an ever-growing and confusing industry that threatens the authentic growth and integrity of artists at various phases of their careers with a strong focus on goals, personality development, and intentionality. Watch the extended, unedited taping session here (includes additional footage and transcripts).
In this episode of the Dover Download podcast, Deputy City Manager Christopher Parker chats with Dave Carpenter, Community Development Coordinator, and Ryan Pope, Housing Navigator, about Dover's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the upcoming five-year consolidated plan. Carpenter explains that Dover has been an entitlement community since the 1970s, receiving direct federal funding to address community needs, particularly in housing and economic development. Pope discusses their current community engagement efforts, including surveys and public listening sessions, to gather input for the new consolidated plan. They highlight emerging themes such as housing affordability, housing quality, and economic development. Carpenter notes the challenges of working with limited funding and the importance of prioritizing needs effectively. The plan will go through public hearings before the Planning Board and City Council in early 2025, with final approval expected by spring. In the second segment, Parker speaks with Brian Early of Media Services and Erin Bassegio of the Planning Department about recent city developments. Early reports on the School Board's budget preparation, the Joint Building Committee's work on the Dover High School Athletic Complex, and City Council actions on the waterfront pavilion project. Bassegio details the Planning Board's December meeting, which included approvals for the Library renovation project, various residential developments, and discussion of a Court Street project. She also mentions updates from the Arts Commission and Conservation Commission, including new staff members joining the planning department.
Wondering how Taylor Swift's music can intersect with the Gospel? Join our Pastors Lora East and Dave Carpenter, along with our music director, Nancy Reeves, unpack the surprising and insightful journey of our recent unconventional sermon series - the Gospel According to Taylor Swift. We'll shed light on why this series was chosen, the divine timing around it, and how it sparked deep, meaningful conversations within our worship community. In this faith-filled exploration, we'll also discuss the importance of embracing current pop culture phenomena like Taylor Swift's music to connect with the younger generation and make our services more relatable. With new concepts come controversies, and we'll share how we navigated through these waters. But it's not all about challenges - we'll also look at the positive influence of integrating elements of modern culture into our faith discussions. Using themes from Taylor Swift's music as a springboard, we encourage dialogues that push boundaries, accept varying perspectives, and create space for discomfort - because growth often happens outside our comfort zones. We passionately believe that these conversations, although tough, have the potential to enrich our faith community's understanding and acceptance. So tune in to hear how our church, with its unique qualities, has become a welcoming space for people of all faith backgrounds and perspectives. Don't miss this episode, for it promises to be as enlightening as it is surprising.Support the showSupport us here:https://www.bpcusa.org/financial-ministry/ BPC Youtube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/BrentwoodPresbyterianChurch
GHIT 0349: Dave Carpenter from the Three Pedal Mafia's Cheaties Car At long last, we have secured Dave Carpenter for the podcast. Dave drives in the orange Cheaties themed Cressida with the Three Pedal Mafia team. In addition, Bill drove in the Cressida at the last race in NJMP where it finished 6th overall in spite of Bill driving. With so much to talk about, we tried to limit it to the Lemons race at NJMP's Thunderbolt track, all about the Cressida, and how Dave manages the team and maintains a pretty strict budget and still routinely finishes in the top ten overall despite being out paced by a large fraction of the field. Hopefully, we will have Dave on again to talk more about his racing past and iRacing. PS Vicki is in full post race hangover/zombie mode for this episode. On the cusp of our Winter 2021 events, Taste Radio's hosts discussed the speaker agendas for NOSH Live and BevNET Live, which include retail executives from Erewhon, Whole Foods, Foxtrot and Earth Fare, along with founders of several high-profile brands, such as Fly By Jing, Dreampops and Super Coffee. They also highlighted notable new brands and products, including wellness shots, vegan snacks, an innovative “shimmering sparkling water” and the largest peanut butter cup in the world. This episode also features an interview with Dave Carpenter, who is the master blender for Redemption Whiskey. Promoted as “leading the rye revival,” Redemption markets a range of super-premium whiskies that are intended for modern drinkers to rediscover rye and the spirit's storied history in the U.S. by way of complex, yet approachable expressions. As part of our conversation, Carpenter spoke about how Redemption has aligned its marketing and innovation strategies with the palates and lifestyles of modern consumers, why its distillation process isn't included in the brand's story, how its bottle shapes and package design play important roles in how customers perceive the brand and the company's approach to finding the balance between premium and value when it comes to pricing. Show notes: 0:47: Talkin' Turkey, BTS At The WCB, Water, Shots and Nuts -- The hosts discussed their respective Thanksgiving dinner plans and Ray's annoyance with the holiday's traditional centerpiece, what attendees can expect from a packed speaker lineup at NOSH Live and BevNET Live, why they're impressed with Todd Carmichael's foray into the water business and a “wholly” impressive line of plant-based snacks and meal. 22:16: Interview: Dave Carpenter, Master Blender, Redemption Whiskey -- After a brief chat about Carpenter's impressive mustache, he and Taste Radio editor Ray Latif spoke about what differentiates rye from other whiskies and the boom, decline and reemergence of the spirit in the U.S. Carpenter also discussed Redemption's on- and off-premise education strategy, why a growing number of master blenders have degrees in chemical engineering and whether trends fit into the brand's innovation planning. Later, he explained how subtleties in Redemption's bottles are intended to speak volumes and why the brand's flagship product is priced relatively affordably for a premium whiskey. Kat Tansey began work on the Hero's Journey in 2015 when she came to the realization that she had been writing and teaching about it for all these years, telling stories and creating courses to help people succeed in a variety of Hero's Journeys. But she had not actually taught them about the Hero's Journey itself. Kat saw that this was a bit like the give a man a fish story. She had been giving them a fish instead of teaching them how to fish. It was time to teach them about the Hero's Journey. Kat's first step for this latest version of Awakening Your Hero's Journey has been to make it a guided online course and connect it to a Discussion Center where people can join a group for each stage of the journey and learn from each other's experiences in that stage. Awakening to Your Hero's Journey is now also part of her new, bigger vision, The Resilient Hero Program. Valeria interviews Kat Tansey. Kat is an award-winning author and innovative educator who believes in the power of a well-told tale to teach while it entertains. An inspirational teacher, Kat spent her early career training thousands of people and consulting with over fifty corporations to help them meet the challenges of change. Her first book, written as a novel, was Winning the Change Game. The book reflected on the lessons Kat learned from twenty years in the corporate world as a training and change management consultant, and featured Alexander Hamilton, who was instrumental in the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, as the change guru. Kat's second book, Choosing to Be: Lessons in Living from a Feline Zen Master, is the story of her journey from deep depression to emotional wellness after she was struck down by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the early 90's. Choosing to Be has been awarded the Independent Publisher's Bronze Medal, and has been highly praised by people like Thom Hartmann, distinguished radio commentator and lifelong meditator, who said it is one of the best books on meditation he has ever read. The illustrious Findhorn Press in Scotland picked up the rights to Choosing to Be and released a new, 2nd edition in September 2010. Kat spent much of 2009 researching insomnia to resolve her own sleep issues, and then created an ebook titled: Insomnia Relief Recipes to educate people with insomnia issues about the science of sleep and teach them how to become confident sleepers without using drugs. Empowering and promoting women has always been a significant part of Kat's journey, and she focuses that passion toward collecting the wisdom of midlife women. Her weekly talk show, Finding Magic in Midlife, allows her to interview and discuss in-depth, lessons learned from a wide variety of accomplished and well-known midlife women. Kat is building an archive of these interviews and plans to develop a series of programs to pass this wisdom on to current and future generations of women. In early 2010, Kat collaborated with her good friend Dave Carpenter to produce the highly praised e-book, Prospering in 2010. They have also created an exciting subscription series of webinars, Prospering in 2010: Embracing Change to Accelerate Success, which people can join any time during the year. Kat has a BA in English from Mary Washington College in Virginia and an MBA from Pepperdine University in California. She lives in Ojai, California with her partner, Greg, and enjoys taking long walks where she develops dialogues for her next book. David Carpenter on Secret Service Deputy Director William J. Callahan and recent change in command at Secret Service ~ "It is a good sign. He was actually. . . just been appointed. He was Deputy Director prior to . . . the election. When the former, Joe Clancy, the former Director, retired, or left, he was a natural to keep continue running the agency. That continuity is critical. It's critical to everything." David Carpenter (right), with Andy Ockershausen (left) in-studio A Ockershausen: This is Our Town. I'm so pleased with our next guest, a man I've known for over 30 years. He's the type of guy that makes you feel real safe. He's the epitome of security. We invited him to Our Town because he can give us some personal insight on what it takes to have the kind of confidence to be a special agent in charge of the Presidential Protective Division of the US Secret Service. Dave Carpenter went on to serve as former ambassador and assistant secretary of state and then was hired as vice president of Global Security of PepsiCo. Dave Carpenter, you're part of Our Town. I'm so glad you decided to come back. David Carpenter: Andy, I can't tell you what an honor and a privilege it is to be here. One, it's great to see you. Two, just to be a part of this is special to me, thank you. A Ockershausen: Our Town is something that Janice created because we lost track of so many people, like Dave Carpenter. We didn't know you were back here until Jim Wells, who shall remain anonymous- David Carpenter: Yes, please. A Ockershausen: ... If we can do that. I don't know how we do that. David Carpenter: I beg you. A Ockershausen: Dave, I found out so much about you. You're from the Midwest. What happened in your background in growing up that led you to the Secret Service? David Carpenter: It's like anybody else, it's a combination of being in the right place at the right time, a little bit of luck, and some networking with actually friends of my family. I'm originally from Denver, Colorado. A Ockershausen: Is that were you were born in Denver? David Carpenter: I was born in St. Louis- A Ockershausen: Wow. David Carpenter: ... When my parents were there watching a Cardinals baseball game. A Ockershausen: This is a great story. David Carpenter: At the seventh inning stretch, my mom decided it was time for me to arrive. They whisk her off to the hospital. I'm now, on my place of birth, is St. Louis, Missouri. A Ockershausen: What year was that, David? David Carpenter: 1947. A Ockershausen: Wow, and the war is over and you're almost a war baby, but you did miss that. David Carpenter: Just missed that. A Ockershausen: Your dad was quite involved in Oklahoma, was he not, with Phillips? David Carpenter: Yeah, my father was a ... Actually, he's from Arkansas originally. He was- A Ockershausen: You're from all over aren't you? David Carpenter: We're from everywhere. They're still trying to figure out exactly our lineage. He was from Arkansas. He went to a school that had a total of eight boys in the school. They won the state basketball championship three years running. A Ockershausen: Of Arkansas state? David Carpenter: In Arkansas, based on, solely on him. First of all he was a big man. He was about six eight. This was in high school. Two, he was just one of those gifted athletes. A Ockershausen: He could do everything. David Carpenter: He could do everything. He went on to play for ... First of all, he's in the Arkansas Hall of Fame. He was inducted at the same time with Joe Garagiolo and Bear Bryant. A Ockershausen: Oh, my. David Carpenter: Which was a pretty good group to be sitting at the head table with. Went on to play with Phillips 66. Which was the AAU Powerhouse. A Ockershausen: That was a big deal. Ft. Wayne had a team. They played all over the Midwest. David Carpenter: Right, Akron, they were ... It was a precursor to the pros. A Ockershausen: That's right. It was as step up.
