Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking!Just because you're successful doesn't mean everyone likes you. In fact, success can often draw criticisms that might not be given to other performers. In Australia, we call that the “Tall Poppy Syndrome”, where people look for reasons to bring successful people down! We look at some criticisms (not by us - mainly!), of highly successful artists and try to find a reason for them. This month seems to have a host of rock star deaths! In Knockin' on Heaven's Door, we mourn the passing of David Lynn Thomas of post-punk group Pere Ubu; Drew Zingg, an American blues and soul guitarist, best known for work with Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs; Joey Molland from Badfinger, and Richard Chamberlain, of Dr Kildare, Shōgun & The Thorn Birds. Our “Album You Must Hear before You Die” is Bob Marley and the Wailers' “Catch a Fire”, a landmark album that established reggae as a musical force, influencing such artists as The Clash, The Police, UB40 and Eric Clapton. Colossal Street Jam has a new album coming out in January, 2024. We had to the chance to sit down with lead singer Gene Potts to learn all about this exciting band! We take a listen to the title track, No Way To Live as well. Join us as we talk Rock and learn all about Colossal Street Jam!Rock and Roll music that DESERVES to be heard! Here's a little background on the band:It's once been said that all roads lead to home… That's precisely where this long-time band of brothers & creative soulmates found themselves, when their well-traveled musical roads converged. It was at this poignant juncture that COLOSSAL STREET JAM was born. One may define their electrifying synergy as the cosmic melding & explosive concoction of abstract minds, unique talent, inherent soul, and tireless passion for their beloved craft. Having a deep & mutual admiration for one another, as well as having tremendous respect for their many, and diverse collective influences, who helped shape their gritty, melodic, psychedelically tinged hard rock stylings, each member truly brings their own individuality, and nuance to the mix. An eclectic potpourri for the senses, CSJ ultimately, and seamlessly fuse their independent ideas to deliver a singular vision & signature sound that can easily be coined as “New Classic Rock” for the ages. This hard-driving, 70's inspired, 5-piece ensemble is comprised of Gene Potts (vocals)… Sal Marra (guitar/vocals)… Tony Flora (bass)… Dave Halpern (drums)… and Eric Safka (keys). With their roots firmly planted and their musical heritage tightly in place, CSJ has long been an integral part the legendary Asbury Park, NJ music scene. Always proud to honor these roots, and the place that gave them their start, the band forever carries with them that feeling of tradition, and heart that has endeared them to growing audiences both nationally and internationally. In 2016, the band's release, “Living Free”, was met with critical acclaim and worldwide press. The albums single, “Songbird” received extensive radio airplay both locally, and globally. In 2018, that same record won an award for Australian Indie Album of The Year For Internet Radio. It subsequently remained on the Indie charts, Down Under, for 6 months. Later that year, in November of 2018, CSJ released their follow up album, “Just Take Hold”… Once again, they were greeted with extensive Indie and College radio airplay for that record's namesake single, “Just Take Hold”, as well as for their cover version of the Sugarloaf classic, “Green Eyed Lady”. In May and December of 2019, CSJ completed two successful European tours, which journeyed them throughout The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. COLOSSAL STREET JAM has shared stages nationwide with the likes of Mark Farner, of Grand Funk Railroad, Robbie Krieger of The Doors, The Black Crowes, Kings X, Stone Temple Pilots, Rival Suns, Blackberry Smoke, The Drive By Truckers, The Hold Steady, Gov't Mule, Johnny Winter, Sebastian Bach, Bruce Dickinson, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Morse, Zebra, Deep Purple, Leslie West, Clarence Clemons, and countless others.

Anthony Wild is the founder of Kids Rock The Nation, a non-profit with the mission to share the power of music with children by giving aspiring young musicians in need instruments to ignite their passion for music and their passion for life. Before dedicating all his time to kids, Wild was a full-time musician. His love for music started at a very young age in Wisconsin. “When I was 5 years old, I got a shiny new drum set for Christmas,” Wild said. His older brother Andrew, a musician in a band, had a hand in showing Wild how to play his new drum set. “As time went on, I kind of moved into singing because I realized I was a better singer than I was a drummer,” Wild said laughing. Inspired by the sounds of Luther Allison and Jimmy Reed, the blues was calling Wild's name. By the time Wild was 15, the aspiring singer had met a producer named Mel Barlow in Leesburg while spending the winter here with his parents. Wild recorded with Barlow, recalling it was a defining moment for him as a teen. “It gave me an opportunity to really do something where I could kind of express myself because it's tough being a child,” Wild said. “You're trying to figure out who you are, what am I going to do with my life.” Wild ended up making the Sunshine State his home. Here he was able to work alongside the members of The Kingsnake Blues Band, blues/rock singer and guitarist Ace Moreland, journeyman drummer Ronnie Byrd Foster and guitarist Warren King. “I was able to perform one night with Robbie Krieger from The Doors,” Wild said with a smile. “That was a really big moment, but I was grateful to have worked with all these amazing musicians over the years.” One day Wild's career came to a screeching halt. “Cancer. I was diagnosed with cancer,” Wild said with tears in his eyes. Lacking a steady income, and unable to buy costly private insurance, Wild tried finding out other options with a doctor he had been seeing. Wild recalled the moment with the doctor vividly. “He just looked at me and he said, ‘Well,' he said, ‘Anthony, you know, you're a musician, you don't really have a lot of money per se.' He said, ‘What is it that you think that anybody's going to do for you?'” In fact, there was not one, but two doctors that were willing to help Wild. Hear what the husband and wife doctor duo did for Wild and how their kindness led to starting a nonprofit that gives the gift of music to kids in need all over the nation, on the latest episode of Riff On This!

Welcome back to another edition of Broken Records, where Steve and Remfry are charged with the unenviable task of finding the worst album ever made. This week we're looking at Other Voices, the 7th studio album from the LA psychedelic rock band The Doors, released on the 18th of October 1971. In the aftermath of the release of arguably their finest album, 1971's LA Woman, The Doors were rocked with the untimely passing of their iconic frontman Jim Morrison. They had already been writing as a three piece without the singer and had composed enough material to make a follow up, assuming that Morrison would return from his new home in Paris to complete the material but unfortunately, he passed away July 3rd 1971 before he was able to record any vocals. With this news rocking the band they became somewhat punch drunk, stumbling around trying to recruit the likes of Paul McCartney and Iggy Pop, before deciding that Jim Morrison, one of the greatest rock singers ever, didn't need replacing and that both guitarist Robbie Krieger and keyboardist Ray Manzarek could handle vocal duties themselves. The result was Other Voices, released a mere three months after Morrison's passing, it stripped The Doors, not just of an iconic voice, but of almost all personality they previously had. In terms of bad ideas, this is right up there, luckily they saw sense and disbanded in 1973, but the appearance of Other Voices in their discography remains a troubling reminder of a very troubling time for the band.

KEE-RYST this movie blows! If you're a Doors fan you'll be happy to know this voluminous episode is mostly about the band, not the movie(much like the Part 1 ep). Did Jim do heroin? Probably not, but Robbie definitely did. Is Ray a big wanker? Yes, but he's still the reason the band exists and continues to be famous. Is John helpful to have around when your lead singer pulls a knife on an innocent woman and there's no one else around to help her? Certainly not! But he sure can play that ride cymbal, eh? Show captionThe DoorsDoors guitarist Robbie Krieger: ‘The music will outlast the crazy Jim stuff'In the musician's new memoir, he aims to tell the true, uncensored story of one of the greatest bands of all time while dispelling some long-running mythsIn order to represent his version of setting the record straight, then, Krieger has just published a memoir, Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying and Playing Guitar with the Doors. It's a doorstop-thick attempt to retell an oft-told tale, this time informed by a desire to suck the hot air out of the more inflated earlier versions, aided by a hilariously flip tone that makes this late-arriving history perhaps the most reliable, and certainly the most entertaining, of all. The witty prose, fashioned by co-author Jeff Alulis, stands in marked contrast to the bitter tone of the two memoirs penned by the band's drummer, John Densmore – the second of which focused on his protracted lawsuit against the two other surviving members of the band – as well as the pedantic, and at times pretentious, tone of the published reminiscences of keyboardist Ray Manzarek.Krieger's tome also aims to blow holes in the mega-selling 1980 book on Morrison, No One Here Gets Out Alive, as well as Oliver Stone's bloviated 1991 movie The Doors, which Krieger takes down in an entire mocking chapter. To the guitarist, Stone's movie wins the prize for fostering the single most outrageous fallacy. “The scene in the film where Jim supposedly pushes a fan into a closet and sets it on fire is the worst,” Krieger said. “That is ridiculously untrue.”At the same time, Krieger's version of the story hardly wants for drama or lunacy. Here's what happens in just the first three pages: Morrison proclaims himself God and threatens to throw Krieger “right out of the universe”. Minutes later, during a dinner, Morrison comes on to the wife of the band's producer and, then, as they're all tensely driving back to their hotel, he grabs the steering wheel, manned by said producer, and swerves directly into oncoming traffic. After somehow making it back to the hotel alive, Morrison runs up to his room on the 12th floor and proceeds to dangle his body out of the window while stone drunk and stark naked, before leaping back into the room at the last minute to grab Krieger's crotch and pin him down on the bed for an unsolicited dry hump. “All those things did happen,” Krieger said. “But it seemed normal at the time. It was like, ‘It's the 60s, man. Anything goes.'”This year marks half a century since the storied singer of the Doors, Jim Morrison, met his untimely death. Or at least that's what most reasonable people believe happened. Due to a combination of denial, wishful thinking and some eagerly promoted conspiracy theories, however, some people actually believe that Morrison still lives. According to the Doors' guitarist, Robbie Krieger, that's just one of many outrageous myths, misconceptions or outright lies that have clung to the band's story. “To me, what happened to the Doors was pretty damn cool just the way it was,” Krieger told the Guardian from his home in Los Angeles. “This wasn't a story that needed to be hyped.”☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆https://linktr.ee/jacksonlibon---------------------------------------------------#facebook #instagram #youtube #twitter #tiktok #love #instagood #follow #like #ouy #oyu #babyshark #lilnasx #girl #happybirthday #movie #olive #garden #menu #deviance #autotrader #trading #khan #academy #carter #carguru #ancestry #accords #abc #news #bts #cbs #huru bluebook #socialmedia #whatsapp #music #google #photography #memes #marketing #india #followforfollowback #likeforlikes #a #insta #fashion #k #trending #digitalmarketing #covid #o #snapchat #socialmediamarketing #bhfyp

In the new episode of the RBP podcast, hosts Mark Pringle, Martin Colyer & Barney Hoskyns invite David Kamp to reminisce about The Rock Snob's Dictionary, already 15 years old but still wonderfully droll and still very on-the-money about people like, well, Mark, Martin & Barney. We ask David to explain the origins of Rock Snobbery and to revisit his epic Vanity Fair pieces about Sly Stone and the unlikely friendship 'twixt country icon Johnny Cash & producer Rick Rubin. The week's overaching theme of 1971 — inspired by Asif Kapadia's new Apple TV series — leads to discussion of Sly's dark masterpiece (and rock-snob staple) There's A Riot Goin' On, and then on to the Doors' redemptive swansong L.A. Woman, released three months before Jim Morrison's death in Paris. Clips from John Tobler's 1983 audio interview with surviving trio Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger & John Densmore prompt discussion of the Doors' legacy & status in the rock pantheon, after which Mark & Barney talk us through their highlights among the new articles in the RBP Library. These include great pieces on Bob Dylan, Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Rough Trade, Some Bizzare's Stevo, the Stones' Keith Richards, plus a lovely 2008 conversation between Simply Red's Mick Hucknall and the mighty Bobby "Blue" Bland. Many thanks to special guest David Kamp; visit his website at davidkamp.com. Pieces discussed: The Rock Snob's Dictionary: An Introduction, Johnny Cash and Rick Rubin, Sly Stone's High Power, The Doors, The Doors audio, Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Van der Graaf Generator, Stevo, Sylvester, Bob Dylan, Scott Walker, Johnny Cash, Rough Trade, Keith Richards, Mick Hucknall meets Bobby "Blue" Bland and Jen Cloher.

A él pertenece "Riders on the Storm" de The Doors. Hicieron doblete invitando a Robbie Krieger. "Five to One/Break on Through". Escuchar audio
Kansas también tienen nuevo disco, tras tres años de ausencia: "The Absence of Presence". The Doors ("Yes the River Knows"). Recordamos la versión original de este último tema y otras más de The Doors, de su disco "Waiting For The Sun" de 1968. Escuchar audio

The Rock N Roll Archaeologist finds a new band to love! Join Christian as he interviews Josh Kennedy, lead guitarist of The Black Moods. Straight ahead rock n roll that reminds the Archaeologist of the fictional band from Almost Famous, 'Stillwater'!The Black Moods play raw, amplified rock & roll.Born in the Arizona desert and reared on stages across North America, the band delivers a modern update of a timeless sound, breathing fresh life into a familiar mix of electric guitars, anthemic hooks, and percussive stomp. The Black Moods' three members — frontman/guitarist Josh Kennedy, drummer Chico Diaz and bassist Jordan Hoffman — aren't looking to reinvent the wheel. Instead, they're piling into a vehicle that's existed for decades, souping up the engine to suit their contemporary needs, and steering those wheels toward their own rock & roll horizon. The band formed in Tempe, Arizona. Inspired by local heroes like the Gin Blossoms and Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers — both of whom have become champions of the Black Moods, often tapping the group as a high-profile opening act — The Black Moods began building their audience the old-school way: by hitting the road. They toured heavily, promoting albums like their 2012 self-titled debut and 2016's Medicine with gigs across the country. By the time "Bella Donna" hit the radio airwaves during the summer of 2018, The Black Moods' fanbase had grown exponentially. There, in the same practice facility once shared by hometown heroes like the Refreshments, the band funneled the spirit and swagger of their live show into their most dynamic recordings to date. That live show — which The Black Moods sharpened with cross-country tours alongside the Doors' Robbie Krieger, Shinedown, Jane's Addiction, Eve 6, Cracker, and numerous other headliners — has always been one of the band's strongest selling points. With one boot planted in the same ground as their influences and the other pointed toward unexplored territory, The Black Moods blaze their own path while still paying tribute to those who came before them. Both "Bella Donna" and "Bad News" were recorded with Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny "K" Karkazis, who flew to Phoenix and set up a makeshift studio in the band's own rehearsal space. Now, thanks to singles like "Bella Donna" (which also lends its name to the first wine in The Black Moods' wine series), The Black Moods' fury and fire onstage is matched by their electricity on record. The band's name is The Black Moods. And these days, those black moods are looking pretty bright.https://theblackmoods.com/

The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger stopped by Jonesy's Jukebox at the Viper Room to hang on the KLOS Subaru Live Stage! Krieger got candid about how The Doors got their name, as well as the side of Jim Morrison that came out only when he drank. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dionysus. The Backdoor Man. Mr. Mojo Risin'. The Lizard King. The Mythical American Poet, Jim Morrison. That's one person you won't be hearing on today's episode of Make It Stop. Comedian Ethan Marsh from Old School Game Show joins the fray this week to discuss The Doors' Full Circle. The album was released less than a year after Jim Morrison's entry into the 27 club, with keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger assuming the roles of the dual frontmen, and they wasted no time transforming the band from the dark and moody psych blues outfit everyone knew them as to a cornball schmaltz novelty act. Your intrepid hosts lose their damn minds as they follow the downward spiral that is Full Circle, pulverized into babbling heaps by the confounding tonal shifts and outrageous East-Meets-West racism. As if there was ever any doubt, this episode settles once and for all that the rest of The Doors absolutely loathed Jim Morrison to the core, and Full Circle is a poorly choreographed dance upon his grave.Part of the Pantheon Podcasts podcast network.

Plata þáttarins kallast Waiting for the Sun og er þriðja hljóðversplata The Doors.

We've entered 1970, and The Doors are back in the critical spotlight with their penultimate album, Morrison Hotel. Both a critical and fan favorite, this album saw The Doors moving (mostly) away from the pop and psychedelic sounds that dominated their last couple of albums, in favor of a rawer blues-influenced rock and roll sound. We take you track-by-track through the album, from the rollicking opener "Roadhouse Blues" through the ending of "Maggie M'Gill".Cosmic America reviews artists and their records, and we do it by going album-by-album through their careers. Be sure to subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.
We've reached the end of our Doors odyssey — we're not doing the non-Morrison albums that followed this one, and we're also not doing American Prayer for reasons that should be obvious if you listen to any of those titles. But that's okay, because this is a tremendous high point upon which to leave. LA Woman, released in 1971, represented a sort of full circle for the band, who returned to more spontaneous studio performances after the perfectionism of the previous three albums. The songs are even bluesier than those on Morrison Hotel, and the album contains two bona fide rock and role classics. If you enjoy these and other Cosmic America podcasts, be sure to subscribe to Cosmic America on iTunes or Stitcher, and consider reviewing the podcast on either of those sites. Back we are, tackling the fourth (and easily most controversial) album in The Doors' canon. The Soft Parade, released in mid-1969, represented a pretty big departure from the band, and…well, the critics didn't dig it. Like, at all. They hated the horns and strings on some of the songs, they hated the lyrics in places, and they seemed to have a significant amount of Morrison fatigue going on, after some of Jim's on-stage and in-press shenanigans over the previous couple of years. So the critics slagged the album and that was that. Or was it? Was this album really so problematic, or just a victim of bad timing and bitchy music journalism? We dive in and go song-by-song through the entire album.
Back for round 2 of The Doors' discography, Galen and Alex tackle their sophomore effort, Strange Days. An interesting mix of late 60s psychedelia, guitar/organ pop sensibility, and another grand epic of a song, this album unfortunately has gotten a bit lost in the historical shuffle. But not here! We walk you through each track song-by-song, and also take some listener questions via Twitter and Facebook.Be sure to subscribe to Cosmic America on iTunes or Stitcher, and consider reviewing the podcast on either of those sites. On our 34th episode, we reach the midway point of The Doors discography, reviewing 1968's "Waiting For The Sun". Significantly different in character from the previous two albums, this piece of work is a bit less coherent, a bit more muddled, yet still shines through with several excellent tracks and an intriguing departure from the sound they'd developed to this point. We also take a listen to the infamous studio version of "Celebration Of The Lizard", the whole-side would-be epic that garnered so little traction among the producer and band members not named Jim that they decided to shelve almost the entire thing.Cosmic America reviews artists and their records, and we do it by going album-by-album through their careers. Cosmic America's raison d'etre is reviewing interesting music by interesting artists — and doing it in a completist fashion, by reviewing all of their studio albums in chronological order. It's what separates Cosmic America from other music review podcasts that only tackle individual albums. For this episode, we launch into the music of The Doors, starting with their seminal debut album. Consistently ranked as one of the best albums of all time, it's obvious that this collection of songs made a huge impact on the American (and rock and roll) music psyche. But is it actually good? Does it hold up over 50 years later? We deep dive into each song on this episode, and answer some reader mail. You can contact us on Twitter at @akmccarthy or @doctorgc.
