Downtown Denver has seen better days. A new Gensler survey shows only 55% of Denverites reported having a “great experience” downtown in 2024, down from more than 70% in surveys conducted in 2021 and 2023. But construction on the 16th St. Mall is supposed to be finished soon! And the mayor has a big, complicated plan to give the recovery an even bigger boost. So host Bree Davies is sitting down with Brad Segal, the founder and president of PUMA, a real estate economics and planning firm that consulted on the plan, to explain how the Denver Downtown Development Authority is supposed to bring life back downtown — and why its success matters to all Denverites. It's time for our spring membership campaign! Get more from City Cast Denver when you become a City Cast Denver Neighbor. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston on Wednesday announced the creation of a new police unit focused on downtown safety, a move that another official said would yield "significant changes in the crime map" for the corridor within a year and encourage people to come back. Joined by Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas and other city officials on the 16th Street Mall, Johnston said the success of the city depends on the success of downtown.“Downtown Denver is not just the backbone of Denver's economy, but it's the cultural and civic heart of the Mountain West," Johnston said in a news release. “These new public safety resources — coupled with $570 million in economic investments through the Downtown Development Authority, the completion of construction on 16th Street, and non-stop events and attractions all summer — downtown is well on its way to being the vibrant core of our city once again."
I called out Pat McAfee for him and his staff's comments on the Colorado State/Maryland travel-gate game. An Australian couple was banging in the shallows in the Gold Coast in front of onlookers. Then, the man did something straight out of Vegas. Downtown Denver could be getting a gondola system to help clean up the area. What states are the friendliest and the not so friendly? Chili's is opening a ‘Office' (tv show) themed version of their restaurant in Scranton. Russell Wilson signs with the Giants… They also signed Jaimies Winston. Who should start? Shedeur Sanders is off the Giants' board… hopefully. So Titans, Jets, Steelers, or Raiders will draft him.
On Saturday March 1st in the Cathedral Basilica in Downtown Denver, the Church welcomed 3 new deacons, ordained to the diaconate with intention towards the priesthood. Archbishop Aquila adresses them with words that apply alike to all people: Follow Jesus. He alone truly knows us.
From the pulpit of the Cathedral Basilica in Downtown Denver on the 7th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Archbishop Aquila reiterates Jesus's message in the Gospel reading, a simple teaching too often dismissed or explained away: "Love your enemies. Pray for your enemies." Christ speaks directly into the soul of the individual. Seek God first, and He will give you the grace to love others.

The heart of the Mile High City could get a major jolt of electricity. If all goes according to plan, the Ball Arena Redevelopment Project will pave the way for new buildings, parks, housing and litany of retail spaces that are estimated to expand downtown by 40%. For Matt Mahoney, senior vice president of development at Kroenke Sports and Entertainment (KSE), scoping the massive project is as much an exercise in architecture as it is in building relationships—especially in a place like Denver, where "development" can be a dirty word. On this episode of the Voices of Experience podcast, Mahoney explains KSE's vision for a new entertainment district, the key to getting the community on board, and how to plan for a project that won't wrap up for at least 20 years. They don't make stuff like they used to…turns out that's true for Denver's buildings as well. Art Writer and Architecture critic Michael Paglia has written about the Mile High's growth spurts over many decades for Westword, and he's seen some multi-story highs and lows, architecturally speaking. Michael joins host Bree Davies to discuss the city's built environment of the 21st century — the good, the bad, and the really, really ugly — while pointing out some of the bright spots in our architectural story. Read some of Michael's in-depth pieces for Westword on Denver's Architecture, both good and bad: “Ten of the Best New Buildings in Downtown Denver” (2019) “The Ten Worst 21st Century Buildings in Downtown Denver” (2015) “With the AIA Convention in Denver, A Look at Ten Architectural Gems” (2013) Bree and Michael talk about the One River North building with the canyon in the middle, as well as these buildings (and here's a lil' map of them, if you wanna do a tour): Prism - 999 17th Street Coloradan - 1750 Wewatta Street Via - 828 Broadway 2785 Speer - 2785 Speer Boulevard For even more news from around the city, subscribe to our morning newsletter Hey Denver at denver.citycast.fm. Downtown Denver has a lot of big, beautiful office buildings that are… empty. Simultaneously, the city is facing an ongoing shortage of housing options, particularly affordable ones. Which all leads to one big question: Could some of those vacant office buildings be converted into apartments or condos or some kind of office-shaped domicile? The answer is yes, kind of. Host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi sit down with Brad Segal — urban planner, real estate economist, CU Denver professor (and Bree's former boss) — to talk about the potential for a vacant-office-to-housing pipeline and the future of downtown. Paul forgot to mention this building on the 16th St. Mall that is being eyed for residential conversion. Brad spoke at length about the revitalization of downtown in the late 80s. To learn more about that, check out our interview with former mayor Federico Peña. The City of Denver is in the midst of studying our office building situation, which Esteban Hernandez at Axios dug into. Downtown Denver is definitely not the hellhole that some suburban Republicans think it is, but since the pandemic it's certainly seen better days. The work-from-home boom means fewer and fewer people traversing the city's core and, in turn, fewer customers for downtown shops, bars, and restaurants. But even with many eateries shuttering in the last few years — The Market, The Paramount Cafe, The Hard Rock Cafe, and even McDonald's! — has come opportunity. Host Bree Davies is joined by Westword food editor Molly Martin and newsletter editor Peyton Garcia for lunch at one of the most exciting new spots — Little Finch on 16th Street Mall — and a conversation about the potential for a downtown dining rebirth. Check out Molly's write-up on Little Finch for Westword; she also mentioned Sofia's and Dragonfly Noodle. Bree talked about the recent Supreme Court ruling on a local website designer's refusal to serve the LGBTQ community. Don't miss our episode on the case from last December! Few people have been or will ever be as connected in the craft beer industry as Chris Black. If you haven't met him or heard of him, then you surely caught wind that Downtown Denver had a little beer bar called Falling Rock Taphouse for 24 years. In 1997 what we think of as the craft beer industry hadn't really begun yet. With only around 800 breweries in the US, opening a beer bar with 69 taps of what we call craft beer was an anomaly. And while it's hard to believe in 2023, opening a craft beer bar in Downtown Denver sounded like a risky and unproven idea. But it's no exaggeration to say that Falling Rock and Chris Black were an integral part of crafting the shape of our industry. While he had a vibrant and loyal business year-round, Falling Rock was a mandatory stop for everyone visiting the Great American Beer Festival down the street from him every year. Unlike the average beer bar in your town, Falling Rock didn't ride the wave of craft beer, it was the moon that created the tides. From humble beginnings in Houston to ascending to the top of the craft beer heap, he has seen and heard more about beer than J. Edgar Hoover did about our personal lives. His understanding of the business of craft beer is as wide as it is deep. And yet, in June of 2021, after steady declines and a grim forecast of the future, Chris, his brothers and their loyal fans and suppliers closed the taps on his iconic taphouse for the last time. This is the story of Chris Black and the rise and fall of what we can only hope was his first craft beer bar - the Falling Rock Taphouse. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed spending a couple hours talking with one of the few people I'd call my craft beer hero. And when you get a guy like Chris to share his time and his insights, you give him a microphone, sit back and interrupt as little as possible. And that's the treat you'll get to experience in the fourth segment. It runs a little longer than I normally do but I couldn't bear to cut any of his opinions and insights. And now, Chris Black. Ryan Meeks, Architect at Shears Adkins Rockmore (SAR+), Aaron Laird, Project Executive at Turner Construction, and Scott Hicken, AOC Executive Producer, join us episode 243 of Art of Construction. Meow Wolf is an arts production company that creates immersive, multimedia experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms. Their latest permanent exhibit, titled Convergence Station, opened in Denver earlier this year. Ryan Meeks was the lead architect on the project representing SAR+, and Aaron led things as the contractor representing Turner Construction. Meow Wolf Denver is in a 90,000-square-foot building with 60,000 square feet of exhibition space, as well as a theater, dining area, retail space, lobby, kitchen, loading dock and storage. Tucked between the viaducts of Interstate 25 and Colfax Avenue in Downtown Denver, the building is certainly one of the most high-profile to be built in Denver in recent years, and with its position right in the middle of two busy freeway overpasses, caught the attention of the town. When a building like this is built in Art of Construction's backyard, we had to hear the backstory. Join Devon, Scott, Ryan and Aaron as they discuss the journey of being on a once-in-a-life-time project, everything that went in to designing and building this complex and mysterious building, how they stayed true to the art collective's grand visions while still meeting Denver's safety requirements, the open-minded and collaborative attitude such a job requires, and the magic that can happen when artists and builders are brought together with one common vision to create something for the betterment of society.

Steve Hibbert – who is a recent transplant to Colorado - had a nearly 3 decade-long career as a professional actor, theater director, improv/sketch writing teacher, and as a TV/screen writer. He now teaches improv and sketch writing at the Bovine Metropolis Theater in the historic Larimer Square District of Downtown Denver. Steve got his start in the '80s and early '90s as a performer, writer (later teacher and director) at the justifiably famous breeding ground for comedy: The Groundlings Theater in L.A. And, yes, he played ‘The Gimp’ in "Pulp Fiction."
Steve Mancinelli Owner | AMI Accredited Automotive Manager | ASE Certified Master Technician (Advanced Level Specialist, L1, and Service Consultant) Steve has over 48 years of experience in the automotive field here in Downtown Denver. After graduating from Creighton University in 1983, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, he chose to continue the family business. Among the above certifications he holds, he is also a registered Colorado Emissions Technician, he has earned his Accredited Master Automotive Manager (AMAM) degree through the Automotive Management Institute and served on the Automotive Service Association (ASA) board of directors for 6 years. Steve finds the field of vehicle service and auto repair to be the most challenging ever. Because of this, he ensures his employees are updated regularly through training and have access to the latest high tech tools and equipment in order to solve the toughest car problems. Ongoing training in communication skills is equally important to Steve, in order to maintain that “Old Fashioned Service” his customers have grown accustomed to since his grandfather opened the business back in 1950. With roots that deep, Steve and his staff of service advisors and auto mechanics are continually involved with community events and causes. Key Talking Points: COVID 196 shops and 23 service bays have closed in Denver- liquidated, retired, moved due to high rent in the downtown area Dynamics of the family business Been in the automotive industry for over 45 years- grew up sweeping floors and pumping gas for his dad’s business Challenges- expectations, leaning on each other, failed partnerships, not knowing each other's roles, not having processes and systems in place Asking for help and getting training- networking Started with 1-day seminar with NAPA and lead to a series with Dale Carnegie Institute, and involvement with ASA as the board of directors for 7 years Napa training by Bob O’Connor- started 20 groups in the Denver area Credited master automotive manager Advice- listen to others Pressed with space with 3 service bays and 2000 square feet- pump oil service tanks. Went to a meeting and another shop owner shared he had eco boxes in his inventory storage room on racks- hold 9 different boxes. Tripled the number of SKUs Community service Fundraiser for “Max Fund”- a woman in the community (1 mile from the shop) started putting a coffee can on her porch as a “donation fund” because her dog Max needed surgery that she couldn’t afford. Community and neighborhood banded together and Max was able to receive his surgery. The woman continued “Max Fund” and ran it as a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats. Steve will hold fundraisers at certain times during the year and proceeds from every job ticket goes to “Max Fund.” Steve has raised over $11,000 Front counter Training is critical- sales techniques and different approaches Must also have natural ability to read customers and enjoys interacting with them Customer’s vehicles are very personal to them- need to hire someone who is empathetic Steve has always had a woman on the front counter- more women customers than before. Good Morning, Colorado, and welcome to the Daily Sun-Up. It’s Tuesday December 1st, and we’re feeling lucky to start the day with you. Join us daily for an in-depth look at one of our top stories. Today, we’re discussing Glenwood Springs, and how they’re spending more than $10 million on repairs and upgrades to water supply infrastructure following the Grizzly Creek Fire. We’ve also released another bonus episode today, featuring insight from one of our readers on what they’ve learned while living through a global pandemic in Colorado. Before we begin, let’s take a look at what happened on this day in Colorado history - adapted from Derek R Everett’s book “Colorado Day by Day”: Today, we take you back to December 1st, 1894. The day Francis B Lowry was born in Denver. Lowry joined the US Army during World War One. He served as a photographer and observer of artillery positions from aircrafts, an innovative technology on the field of battle. During his 33rd mission German guns shot down his plane and he died in the crash. Now, our feature story. The Grizzly Creek Fire was not even 10% contained. Jumbo jets still were dousing flames as firefighting teams from across the country scrambled to protect Glenwood Springs and a critical watershed above the Colorado River. And teams of scientists were in Glenwood Canyon, too, battling alongside firefighters. Those hydrologists, biologists, geologists, archaeologists and recreation specialists are still there, even after the flames are gone, waging a behind-the-scenes battle to protect water and natural resources. Colorado Sun reporter Jason Blevins is joining us today to talk more about the aftermath of the fire, and what’s in store in terms of recovery. Jason, thanks so much for the time! So, the Grizzly Creek fire was still raging in Glenwood Canyon when a team of scientists descended on the burn zone to began assessing damage and making a recovery plan, can you start by talking about what they found? And, the city of Glenwood Springs has water intake infrastructure in Glenwood Canyon, can you tell us what was specifically damaged? And what are they spending money on? Thanks so much for the insight, Jason. It didn’t take long for Glenwood Springs to identify immediate repairs and upgrades to protect water systems from expected sediment and debris flowing from scorched canyon walls. By early September, less than a month after the Grizzly Creek Fire started, the city had a list of $86 million in projects. And the money started flowing almost immediately. Thanks for listening. Before we go here are a few stories you should know about today: On the first day of a special legislative session, Colorado lawmakers are potentially exposed to coronavirus. A Republican staffer in the Colorado House was on the chamber’s floor Monday morning despite testing positive for COVID-19 last week according to Democrats. - As unemployment claims in Colorado tick back up again, the site where out-of-work Coloradans go to request benefits was down on Monday morning possibly due to expired domain. - State officials have agreed to consider new county-by-county variances to red-level shutdown restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, but they warned rising case loads mean they will cast a skeptical eye on anyone hoping to replicate Mesa County’s “5-star” exemption program. - New Colorado state guidance could mean fewer teachers have to quarantine at home after a positive case of COVID-19 at their school, allowing more classrooms to stay open. Good Morning, Colorado, and welcome to the Daily Sun-Up. It’s Monday November 30th, and we’re feeling lucky to start the day with you. Join us daily for an in-depth look at one of our top stories. Today, we’re discussing the prioritization of wildlife in The Gap expansion. Before we begin, let’s go back in time with some Colorado history adapted from historian Derek R Everett’s book “Colorado Day by Day”: Today, we take you back to November 30th, 1994 when the federal government’s highest-security prison, known as Supermax in Fremont County, admitted its first inmates. It was nicknamed the Alcatraxz of the Rockies, and it secures the nation’s worst offenders under lock and key. And now, our feature story. It’s a picturesque and remarkable feat of preservation. Meandering plains, mountains and meadows reflect the fruits of a decades-long effort to link massive, contiguous public and private parcels along a 5- to 8-mile-wide corridor -- roughly from Monument Hill north to Larkspur, wrapped in expansive conservation easements, protected habitat and, to the west, Pike National Forest. It teems with wildlife. There’s a herd of elk on billionaire John Malone’s Harmony Ranch that can range from 350-500 animals. Countless Front Range motorists may not know these details, but they’re more than a little familiar with the landscape: Their vehicles slice through it every time they buzz down that busy stretch of Interstate 25. And that’s been a problem -- both for drivers surprised by deer in the headlights and the wildlife that has risked becoming roadkill. With the Colorado Department of Transportation’s current project to widen an 18-mile stretch known as The Gap, motorists and wildlife would have made for an even more toxic mix. That’s where about $20 million of the $350 million project come into play. Colorado Sun reporter Kevin Simpson is joining us today to talk more about the project. Great to have you joining us, Kevin, can you start off here by telling us how $20 million of this project got set aside specifically to deal with wildlife mitigation? Kevin clip 00:00 - 00:44 And how difficult was it to get this data? Kevin clip 00:44 - 01:22 So, can you talk more about how that data helped the project's effort to get a slice of the funding? Kevin clip 01:22 - 01:45 Right, and what went into the planning besides this data? Kevin clip 01:45 - 02:32 So, how about these mitigation efforts? What are engineers doing to fix these problems? Kevin clip 02:32 - end Thank you so much for your time, Kevin. And thank you all for listening. Finally, here are a few stories you should know about today: Democrats, who are in the majority, are prioritizing eight bills for the lawmaking term. The aid totals about $200 million, with an additional $100 million to help Colorado's public health response. - Polis on Wednesday announced that he was entering quarantine after being exposed to someone who has tested positive for coronavirus - With no action by Congress, Colorado and other states are racing to offer coronavirus aid. - The federal Lifeline program provides $9.25 to low-income consumers for wireless or broadband service. But the FCC’s upgrade on Dec. 1 may leave some CenturyLink or mobile customers behind -- and with higher bills. For more information on all of these stories, visit our website, www.coloradosun.com. Amid the coronavirus shutdown, I went on a walk for sanity. I got a dose of reality. We’re living in a historic time. Not this age, not this millennium, but right this minute. We haven’t been touched by a pandemic of this magnitude for more than 100 years, and as we incorporate social distancing — a phrase not in such common use just weeks ago — and face the potentially life-altering consequences of the coronavirus, we live in the knowledge that our world may look very different when the danger passes. Now, as so many of us live under near-quarantine conditions, working from home — or not working at all — while hoping to quash the march of COVID-19 across the country, we’re bound to find ourselves in moods of reflection, uncertainty and hope. There is much to contemplate. And so The Colorado Sun is asking all of you, anyone with the capacity and the willingness to commit your thoughts to print, to share your observations of the many aspects of this remarkable period. We’ll publish select pieces periodically — an ongoing time capsule of sorts — as we confront the challenges ahead of us. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There are so many different models of leadership and there are so many different solutions out in the market. Martin Lanik, CEO of Pinsight and the author of the business bestseller, The Leader Habit, says what makes their process different is the realization that traditional classroom-based leadership development just doesn’t work. They focus on 5-minute daily leadership exercises that build positive habits. They work with organizations to help them hire better leaders, and then to promote better leaders to identify the right high-potentials that they should invest in and to develop them to prepare them for executive positions. Martin shares some effective leadership behaviors you can practice to the point that they are your second nature. Watch the episode: Listen to the podcast: Hiring and Developing Better Leaders with Martin Lanik We are in Downtown Denver with Martin Lanik. He’s the CEO of (https://www.amazon.com/Leader-Habit-Master-Lead-Minutes/dp/0814439349) . I had the good fortune of getting a copy before it was released and finished reading it. Martin, thank you so much for taking time to be on the podcast. I’m happy to be here. Thank you, Bob. Martin, if you would tell us a little bit about your business and who you serve. I run a software company called Pinsight and we focus on leadership development and leadership assessment. We work with organizations to help them hire better leaders and then to promote better leaders to identify the right high potentials that they should invest in and to develop them and prepare them for executive positions and work with those high potential as we are developing them. I’m paramilitary so the leadership model was pretty understood and taught and so on. What took you down the path of working on leadership and developing solutions and applications to help? I have a background in Industrial Organizational Psychology. I have a PhD from Fort Collins from Colorado State University. I started very early on in my career focusing on leadership and leadership assessment and then development. Then I worked as a consultant out of Pittsburgh and London working with global organizations, helping them with their leadership strategy. When the recession hit, I identified an opportunity. I thought, “There’s an opportunity here in the market where you can take all the really good parts of general leadership programs and then streamline them so they become much more cost-effective and scalable globally. That’s how I founded Pinsight. Let’s make leadership as natural as brushing your teeth. Click To Tweet (https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbusinessleaderspodcast.com%2Fhiring-and-developing-better-leaders-with-martin-lanik%2F&text=Let%E2%80%99s%20make%20leadership%20as%20natural%20as%20brushing%20your%20teeth.&related) I think about the folks that are listening and they’re going, “There’s a number of leadership programs with one description or another.” It’s really module-based inside the book where you could go through and try to do some work with big topics and work your way through, what led you basically to the thought process to start chunking it for lack of a better term? You are absolutely correct. There are so many different models of leadership and there are so many different solutions out in the market. What makes our process different is the realization that your traditional classroom-based leadership development just doesn’t work. This was actually why I decided to write the book. Several years ago, I came across an article in the Journal of Consulting Psychology that shows that American corporations year-over-year are now spending more and more money on leadership development, to the point that it was about $14 billion in 2012. Our general confidence in leadership is actually decreasing. There’s a negative relationship....
With so many luxury apartments popping up in downtown Denver, it’s a wonder the market can sustain prices. Everywhere we look we see cranes in the sky indicating that, Developers are not slowing down. Link - https://www.denverpost.com/2018/09/13/denver-straining-to-absorb-luxury-units/ Starting off With a home run in the first inning, Nolan Arenado became the fourth player in Colorado Rockies history with four-straight seasons of 30 home runs and a 100 RBI. Arenado is also the youngest third baseman to do so. The Rockies will face the Dodgers for a three-game series starting Monday. Colorado has yet to win a division title, but with the way they've been playing lately… winning eight of the last 11 games… this could be the year it all changes. Today’s podcast includes two minis sandwiched between a couple of wonderful songs. Here’s what’s on tap: Mini 1: Denver…in which we find our Driven to Drink couple uncomfortably stuffed, with food and booze…and the energy they intended to bring to this fades quickly, which is why what was supposed to be a full-on podcast becomes a mini. High…or perhaps lowlights: Greg uses vocal fry and effeminate prosody, which is not wonderful. On the other hand, we love the Aussie accent and its apparently oft-used rising intonation that might typically be interpreted as a question in the U.S., but perhaps not in Sydney. Downtown Denver, in terms of food and drink, gets two enthusiastic thumbs up. “The Roosevelt” is an exceptional modern speakeasy near the convention center. Greg went classic with a Sazerac and a Manhattan. Jen leaned modern with two proprietary, fragrant, time intensive drinks. Lots of local beer and spirits. Lots. And also other things quite legal in Colorado. Fun, kids. Very fun. We went to “The Kitchen” and it is an outstanding place. Go there, em effers. They had the best pork tacos on the planet. It was like duck confit, but pork based. If Greg were placed on a deserted island with only one food item forever and ever, he would choose the pork tacos from The Kitchen. They are the wind beneath his wings. Greg also tried Montanya rum andA.D. Law’s 4-Grain straight bourbon and rye whiskeys. All of it was, like The Kitchen, outstanding. Really, people. Denver is dry as fuck. Dehydration is impossible to avoid. Denver International Airport’s architecture is outstanding. Mini 2: Post-Denver…in which your faithful companions go all-in with Lagunitas. Jen has, of course, Hop Stoopid (102 IBU, 8% ABV). Greg goes with Brown Shugga (51 IBU, 9.8% ABV). We read the wit and oddly deep prosetry (…it’s like prose but it’s like poetry…) on the Lagunitas bottles, and we wonder, “How do you say Eschew?!” On a side note, Jen had an imperial IPA in Denver, “Jagged Mountain Triple Bypass” coming in at a whopping 450 IBU, and an almost impossible 14.5% ABV. Very sweet. Kind of syrupy. But delicious. Beware Jen’s big sneezes in the midst of the IBU conversation. They are loud and they are abrupt, and if you’re wearing headphones it might be less than a pleasant experience for you. The Music: “Get Out of Denver” by Bob Seger“Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver“I Can Read Your Mind” by R.J. Heid We present to you, “Get In to Denver.”

People might not see how the sweet science of boxing and basketball go together. Other than the referees and judges perhaps being crooked, they don't really mix. That's why we had two separate calls on this episode as Duran Hill of Sting Like a Bee Entertainment and Kalen Deremo of Roundball Mining Company join the show. Hill shares his background with us - with his father and uncle both boxers, he was destined to get into the fight game. And being named after legendary boxer Roberto Duran, who his family knew, that just added fuel to his fire. He wanted to be the next Sugar Ray Leonard, but an accident derailed his promising career. But as one door closed, another opened as he got into the business side of boxing. The Denver Native is currently promoting a 7-match fight card on Friday, June 13th at the Exdo Event Center in Downtown Denver. For tickets, visit his webpage here. The card features some local talent that could soon burst onto the national scene. On the national stage tomorrow night are your Denver Nuggets. Deremo, one of three contributors at RMC, dives deep into the NBA Draft with us. We go over the dream scenario of the Nuggets landing a lottery pick and just how high up that pick could be. This is an interview I did today (January 19, 2009) with Jason L. Owens, volunteer manager for Volunteers of America - Colorado. I was inspired to check out VOA as part of President-Elect Obama's call to service on Martin Luther King Day. VOA is one of 5,000 organizations where volunteers signed up to help today. Obama himself did some painting today at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Jason gave me two volunteer applications, for my wife and I to fill out. We will do so and plan to spend some time learning what volunteer opportunities are nearby our home in Downtown Denver.
