Terence Bendixson was the Guardian's planning correspondent in the 1960s when he wrote a piece that propelled him into walking campaigning. In 1969 he joined Living Streets (then the Pedestrians' Association) when he and its founder hit it off.Foley, a London-based journalist, founded the Pedestrians Association in 1929, when motor vehicles were proliferating; he was concerned about the dangers they posed. In 1939 Evelyn Waugh described Piccadilly Circus as 'still as a photograph, broken and undisturbed'.In its early years the charity shaped road safety law, including the introduction of the first Highway Code and the driving test, 30mph speed limits and pedestrian crossings. Post-war 'The Peds' were involved in the first zebra crossings and the new offence of drink driving As TransportXtra reports.Terence Bendixson was part of the hugely successful Homes for Roads movement, as told by Steve Chambers, of Transport for New Homes https://planningtransport.co.uk/2020-03-08-homes-before-roads.html. https://jo.my/e7cofg Forklift Safety: Safe Movement and Awareness Forklifts keep operations moving but pose serious risks if not handled with care. A busy facility means constant movement—pedestrians, equipment, and changing layouts create potential hazards. Safe operation depends on awareness, control, and the proper habits to prevent accidents before they happen. Here are a few tips to assist you with safe forklift movement in dynamic environments: Use Mirrors and Spotters for Blind Spots – Blind spots are a significant risk, especially when turning corners or moving near high shelving. Convex mirrors at intersections and spotters in high-traffic zones help maintain visibility and reduce collision risks. Maintain a Safe Speed – Rushing leads to mistakes. Always follow posted speed limits and slow down when turning or entering tight areas. Keep control of the forklift at all times, ensuring enough stopping distance to avoid sudden hazards. Watch for Pedestrians and Follow Interaction Protocols – Pedestrians have the right of way, but communication is key. Make eye contact, use hand signals, and ensure pedestrians know your next move before proceeding. Horns and warning lights should be used at intersections and blind spots to alert others. Avoid Collisions in Tight Aisles – Space is limited, so plan each move carefully. Keep loads stable and centered to prevent tipping. Avoid sudden turns or jerky movements that could cause a shift in weight or loss of control. Stay Alert and Adapt to Changing Conditions – Facilities are constantly in motion, with shifting inventory, changing layouts, and multiple equipment operators. Stay aware of your surroundings, follow traffic patterns, and adjust to maintain a safe operating space. Forklift safety is about more than rules—it is about habits that protect operators and everyone in the facility. Every trip should be made with full attention, controlled movement, and a clear focus on safety. A well-managed facility is one where forklifts move efficiently while keeping risks low. Thank you for being part of another episode of Warehouse Safety Tips. Until we meet next time—have a great week, and STAY SAFE! #Safety #SafetyFIRST #SafetyALWAYS #StaySafe #SafetyCulture #ForkliftSafety #WarehouseSafety #PedestrianSafety #SafeOperations

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) is a fairly common feature in production vehicles from the Honda Civic to the Ford F-150. It's shown to have a material impact on preventing impacts. But according to new research, some AEB systems may contain worrisome blind spots. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) just released findings from its recent research into the effects of high-visibility clothing – like the reflective gear worn by construction workers and runners – on AEB systems. While reflective clothing can substantially help human drivers spot people on or near the road, especially while driving at night, it seems to have the opposite effect on some AEB systems.

Once again, your favorite podcast is back, bringing all the pertinent information and social irregularities to light. It will save your life. First off, Carrington's got a beef, a big ole stinky beef with the entire driving population. Hide your driver's licenses because he's coming for them, and he doesn't ask more than twice. Well, maybe sometimes he'll ask three times, but that's the max, usually. Next up, Jaymi brings up a time-old question that started back on the Ark with Noah and his family. That being, what is the correct response to someone knocking on the bathroom door while you're taking care of, business? Should you ask a question back? Ask how their day is going? Maybe crack the door to shake their hand? Don't worry, we'll give you the answer, just sit back and learn. Last off, we play a quickly coordinated game of hypothetical trivia, which went swimmingly for being put together in .69 seconds. Nice! Thank you for listening, if you made it through this bombastic fantastic episode you are truly a strange one, and that makes you special! whether in a good way or not is yet to be seen. Starting another Brand-New Hour-- of The Steve Gruber Show--Coming to you Live from CHICAGO— I am fighting for you from the foxhole of freedom and will do whatever it takes to save America, every, single day! Here are the three big things to know this hour— Number One— Joe Biden is still on vacation I think—I mean he came back briefly to insult Israel after more hostages were murdered by Hamas—including another American—but he never says much about that— Number Two— And Joe Biden has not said much about US Marines being attacked in the streets of Turkey over the weekend—BUT what do you expect from a guy with an Ice Cream buzz sitting on the beach? Number Three— Did Kamala Harris hit 2 pedestrians back in 2011 and flee the scene? That is the claim being made by a woman who was 13 at the time of the alleged hit and run—that would have involved the AG for California at the time—
Two pedestrians were killed over the weekend in separate auto accidents, one in Pleasant Grove and another in Oak Cliff; also, reports of gunshots at Town East Mall turned out to be chairs being thrown in the food court; nearly 200 protesters outside Dallas Black Dance Theater cry “Firing dancers? Not the answer” and “Union busting is disgusting!” ; and the Texas Rangers are coming to terms that a return to the playoffs doesn't seem to be in the offing this year.
