Florida State football held its first practice of April, with Tuesday serving as the seventh day of spring camp. The Seminoles scrimmaged on Saturday, offering the coaching staff's first look into the team in situational action and the player's first opportunity to measure their progress so far. “We wanted to see a day of response...whether it's drastic improvement or just a fundamental focus, situational awareness, the different elements that you get coming out of a scrimmage that will show up, especially for a lot of newcomers,” head coach Mike Norvell said. “It was a good test to see the mindset, response.” Norvell said he liked the energy that the team came with, especially with the staff putting them in situations where a competitive edge was needed — “defined winner-loser” portions where the aim was to build off what was seen on Saturday. “I thought guys handled it well, it was good physicality, good speed....guys that were given a great opportunity, we're getting a great perspective of exactly where they are and I think some guys are taking advantage of it.” Norvell highlighted the performance of several players from the scrimmage — running back Sam Singleton, wide receiver Elijah Moore, defensive back Earl Little and linebacker Omar Graham, who specifically was singled out for continued elevation over the past week, capping it off with a strong showing in the scrimmage. Florida State continued its spring camp journey on Thursday, hitting the field for the second of 15 practices aimed at laying the foundation for this year's edition of FSU football. It was another helmets-only day for the Seminoles as acclimation to on-field action continued, offering an opportunity for the squad to refine the finer details ahead of the first padded practice of the spring on Saturday. “[It was a] great opportunity to clean up on some of the finer details of what we put in yesterday. You had a little bit of new installation, but really with a lot of new faces, also some new terminology, new alignments, different things that we're looking at on both sides of the ball,” head coach Mike Norvell said Thursday evening. “Day one, it's about: ‘Can you get communication? Can you get aligned?' You go back and watch the film, the communication was good, but we're off on some of the alignments. You want to see guys be able to take the coaching, be able to apply it, and be better today, and I thought that was the case.” Defensive linemen Darrell Jackson Jr. and James Williams, who also spoke with the media following practice, earned praise from Norvell for the way they've carried themselves through the early days of spring. “You feel their ownership. ... Those are two guys that you challenge in the room because they both do have experience and high ceilings. [Jackson Jr.] made the choice to come back and I told him, ‘You better not even think about coming back unless you plan on being a top 10 pick,' that's the expectation now.” Norvell also complimented receivers Jalen Brown and Hykeem Williams, saying they have risen to the occasion after being challenged this offseason. “[They're] two guys that made the choice that they want to fight for it. And I'm grateful for that and I'm trying to push them on a play-to-play basis for them to continue to elevate to what I believe that they can be. I've seen both of them in the first two days make plays that get me excited.” Defensively, Norvell discussed what he's seen early from Earl Little, Ashlynd Barker, Max Redmond and the unit as a whole, saying, “Obviously not a whole lot of contact ... but you felt the burst, you felt the guys taking better angles to the ball. Excited about Saturday being the first padded day to start to showcase some of the physicality that these guys have been working to develop.” Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode, Dr. Hettie V. Williams is in conversation with Arjun Collins about the life and legacy of Ella Little Collins and Malcolm X. Williams is the incoming director of the Trotter Institute for the Study of Black Culture at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Collins is the great nephew of Malcolm X and grandson of Ella Little Collins who was a long-time resident of Boston from the mid-1940s until her death in 1996. Ella Collins (born to Earl Little and Daisy Little in 1914 and the half-sister of Malcolm) became Malcolm's legal guardian after his mother died when he was about 8 years old. Collins then had a major influence on Malcolm's life and legacy by helping to raise him until age 21 and remaining actively engaged in supporting him throughout his life. It was she who first introduced him to Islam and took over the Organization of African Unity after he died. It was she who buried him when he died. Ella Little Collins was an activist in her own right in Boston where she was a community organizer and education advocate. Her children and grandchildren including Arjun Collins have carried on the legacy of social justice agitation down to the present. Arjun Collins here explains—at times in evocative terms—the legacy of his grandmother, uncle, and family. This is the uncut raw original edition of our interview. For more information about Arjun click here: Arjun Collins and look for his new book about the environmental and naturalist thought of his great uncle Malcolm X soon.   #MalcolmX #BlackinBostonandBeyond #Blackequality

The Final Whistle: Why Hasn't Ty Simpson Won the Job? Where is Earl Little Jr? Alabama LB Battle! The quarterback battle at Alabama has been a tight one. Jalen Milroe seems to have taken the lead. Ty Simpson came to Tuscaloosa riding a huge wave of promise. Many thought that he would be the hands down choice for QB1. That isn't the case. Why is that? We look at what may be hindering Simpson from taking over. One of the most improved positions for Nick Saban this off season has been the secondary. That group was a weakness the past few seasons. It doesn't appear so anymore. Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold are a few reasons why. After the A-Day, fans got a glimpse of just how good Earl Little Jr could be. He looked as though he would be the final installment of "no fly zone". However, during fall camp, he has gone silent. We aren't hearing much from him. So, what's going on? There is an intense battle at linebacker going on between Trezmen Marshall and Jihaad Campbell. The both are making it hard for Nick Saban and Kevin Steele to make a decision. So, we will decide for them! This week's winner of "Final Whistle Top Fan" is Jay "Luscion" Roepke. He will sit with us to ask question and give his analysis! - The Final Whistle is hosted by former Alabama players Matt Caddell & Chris James, Dan James, Justin Riley, Senordor "Coach Smook" Hines, and Ty Hayes. - #collegefootball #alabamafootball #rolltide

Speaking about the reason why the Prophet reconnected the Asiatics of North America with their fellow Asiatics worldwide with a focus on the Asiatics of North, South, Central America, and the Caribbean (West Indies). The Prophet let it be known in chapter 45 that the world is MUCH larger than the United States. We must remember this and keep in mind that the Forerunner to the Prophet, a modern day John the Baptist, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, and his wife Amy Jacques Garvey were both born in Jamaica (West Indian). Other notable leaders as well such as Malcolm X and Minister Farrakhan are also West Indian. Farrakhan's parents are from St. Kitts and Jamaica while Malcolm X's mother was from Grenada and his father was from Georgia. The mother of Malcolm X, Louise Little is from the island of Grenada. Apparently her grandparents were “liberated Africans” from West Africa, probably Nigeria that arrived in Grenada in the mid nineteenth century. Their family still owns land in Grenada to this day.2 “She (Louise) left Grenada in 1917, she arrived in Montreal, and then lived there for about two years. In Montreal, she was first introduced to Garveyism through her uncle, Edgerton Langdon, the son of Mary Jane and Jupiter Langdon. In Montreal, she joined the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), founded by Marcus Garvey and Amy Ashwood Garvey, and later met Earl Little, who was from Georgia. They married in Montreal, moved down to Philadelphia, and then to Omaha in 1921. And, lastly, I've had the opportunity to meet with some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She has a very large and extended family in Michigan and elsewhere.”2 “She (Louise) was a committed Garveyite grassroots activist. She spoke multiple languages—English French, Patois. She taught her children the French alphabet. She insisted that her children read newspapers such as the Negro World, the official periodical of the UNIA, and newspapers from Grenada. ”2 “Point du Sable married a Potawatomi woman named Kitihawa (Christianized to Catherine) on 27 October 1788, in a Catholic ceremony in Cahokia in the Illinois Country, a longtime French colonial settlement on the east side of the Mississippi River.[15] It is likely that this couple was married earlier in the 1770s in a Native American tradition.”3 “Kitihawa Point Du Sable (also known by her Christian name, Catherine)[1] was a Potawatomi woman who, with her husband Jean Baptiste, established the first permanent settlement in what is now the city of Chicago.”4 “A December 2019 article in the Chicago Tribune mentions a proposal to rename Lake Shore Drive for Jean Baptiste Point du Sable.[4] The article suggests rethinking the history of the city and considering the centuries that Native American people used the area as a trading post -- and renaming Lake Shore Drive for Kitihawa instead.”4 Sources: 1. http://www.noirguides.com/facesofafrobelizeans.html 2. https://www.aaihs.org/on-louise-little-the-mother-of-malcolm-x-an-interview-with-erik-s-mcduffie/ 3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Baptiste_Point_du_Sable 4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitihawa_Point_du_Sable https://theskydeck.com/chicago-facts/who-founded-chicago/ Saudi Arabia - Culture, Etiquette and Business Practices (commisceo-global.com) A Black Imam Breaks Ground in Mecca - The New York Times (nytimes.com) Sheik Adil Kalbani - Search (bing.com) Bedouin (3) | Al Ain | Pictures | United Arab Emirates in Global-Geography Afro-Peruvian rights of national interest in Peru | News | ANDINA - Peru News Agency https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=afro+peruvians&form=HDRSC3&first=1&cw=1427&ch=773 https://pacotaylor.medium.com/ancient-chinese-secret-these-14-phenomenal-photos-reveal-there-were-indeed-black-chinese-6261468b4102 https://realhistoryww.com/world_history/ancient/China_2.htm --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moorish-americans/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moorish-americans/support

Day 1 “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.” - Malcolm X The Address: 3448 PINKNEY STREET OMAHA, NEBRASKA The Story: The historical marker is behind the building. You cannot see it from the parking lot. Near the historical marker lies a small structure that is supposed to resemble the original house. The original house was the brick-and-mortar dreams of Reverend Earl and Louise Little. The current building houses the Malcolm X Foundation. There are five sets of stairs inside to represent the five pillars of Islam. Outside the historical marker reads “El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz was born Malcolm Little at University Hospital Omaha,” although neighborhood historian Bertha Calloway says he was actually born at home, right there at 3448 Pinkney Ave, attended to by doctor W.D. Lear and assisted by doctor A.S. Pinto. It was common practice back then for official birth certificates to conceal home births by listing a hospital name. Malcolm would live in this house on the north side of Omaha for less than a year before the Nebraska KKK, which at the time had a membership of more than 45,000, including a women's branch, a kids club, an annual state convention, ran them out of town. Unfortunately, the family couldn't run far enough, and on the corner of E. Michigan Ave and Detroit St. in Lansing, Michigan the terror caught up to them, killing Earl Little. A quick google image search reveals that there is a Chevy car dealership sitting at the corner now. No one there to tell the story of how that intersection helped birth the great Malcolm X. But during this episode we will tell that story, a story that starts at 3448 Pinkney Street. The story of Malcolm's birth home is a story set amidst a red summer and a mob rising. It includes the story Louise Norton Langdon Little who was born in Saint Andrew Parish, Grenada to Ella Langdon who was the daughter of Jupiter and Mary Jane. We don't know if their names were printed in a family bible, or if Earl would have had a chance to grab that bible before taking his family and fleeing. What we do know is that the story didn't end there on that street and that that street birthed one of the greatest revolutionaries of anytime.

BlackFacts.com presents the black fact of the day for May 19.Malcolm X was born.He was an African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist who was a popular figure during the civil rights movement, and best known for his time spent as a vocal spokesman for the Nation of Islam.Malcolm's father, Earl Little, was a leader in an African-American group. This caused the family to be harassed by white supremacists. When Malcolm was six, his father was found dead on the tracks of the local streetcar. While the police said the death was an accident,  many thought his dad was murdered. As a young black man in the 1940s, Malcolm felt he had no real opportunities. He worked odd jobs, but felt he would never succeed despite how hard he worked. In order to make ends meet, he eventually turned to crime. In 1945, he was caught with stolen goods and was sent to prison. After getting out of prison, he became a minister for the Nation of Islam. He worked at several temples around the country and became the leader of Temple Number 7 in Harlem. After his epiphany at Mecca, Malcolm X returned to the United States less angry and more optimistic about the prospects for a peaceful resolution to America's race problems. Just as Malcolm X appeared to be embarking on an ideological transformation with the potential to dramatically alter the course of the civil rights movement, he was assassinated. In 2021, Family members of Malcolm X have revealed a letter written by a New York police officer that they say shows the NYPD and the FBI were behind the 1965 assassination of the famed Black leader.Learn black history, teach black history at blackfacts.com

Malcolm X who was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19th 1925 from his mother Louise Norton Little and his father Earl Little. He was one of 8 children and grew up in a very proactive household. His father, Earl who was a baptist minister was very outspoken and was a large supporter of the Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Being outspoken came with its consequences, his father would receive death threats from a white supremacist organization Black Legion. They were forced to move to avoid the threats but less than a year later their house was burned, and two years later he was found dead. It was presumed an accident and after his death his mother became insane and had to go to a mental institution in which all the kids went to foster care. As Malcolm grew up he bounced from home to home and eventually in 1946 he was arrested for burglary. During his time in prison he reflected on his life and his brother would visit him, he introduced him to Nation of Islam. He then took very close following of the leader Elijah Muhammad, and when he got out he decided to get involved. He then changed his name from Malcolm Little to Malcolm X to get rid of his slave name. Most importantly he became the spokesperson for the NOI because he was very intelligent and articulate. He used television, radio and newspapers to spread his beliefs and ideas with the world. The NOI grew from 500 to 30,000 followers in 10 years. Malcolm X was very controversial and his statements brought outrage from the public. He told his followers to break away from racism “by any means necessary” which means violence is acceptable. Separate from his rival Martin Luther King who was anti-aggression, Malcolm often scolded MLK for being friends with the white man. He said “You don’t have a peaceful revolution” and “You don’t have a turn the cheek revolution. There’s no such thing as a nonviolent revolution”. These words had an effect on the people of America due to his pro-violence views. These statements won him large amounts of followers but also brought many critics. One of the critics was MLK himself saying “I feel that Malcolm has done himself and our people a great disservice.” showing the feelings he has for Malcolm’s opinions. In 1963 Malcolm was betrayed by his most coveted friend Elijah Muhammad. He had followed Muhammad’s teachings for many year only to find out that Elijah himself was breaking some of the most important rules of his religion. He was having affairs with numerous women and it caused a huge outbreak for Malcolm to handle. He then separated himself from NOI and moved on to start his own organization. The death of Malcolm X was monumental for the civil rights movement. He was killed in 1965 at the Audobon ballroom in Manhattan. He was shot 15 times at point blank range by members of the NOI. This allowed Martin Luther King to take Malcolm’s followers and move forward with the civil rights movement. Without Malcolm X the civil rights movement would have been drastically different.

Poet and activist Lance Newman joins us for Juicy Fruit this week, where some stories from this week lead to a broader discussion of violence against black Americans. We talk about the through line of retribution against African-Americans who are perceived as not knowing their place. Emmett Till, Malcolm X's father Earl Little, lynchings, the massacre in Rosewood, Florida--all were incidents of white supremacist violence that went well beyond just murder. (We do describe the details of some of those killings on the show this week, so if you can't listen to that, you'll want to skip from minute 7 to minute 17 of the show.) The over-the-top nature of how the murders were carried out and what was done to the bodies was intended to terrorize other black people and let them know they could be next. Dr. Story draws a comparison between historical violence to today's police shootings to point out that the need for a Black Lives Matter movement goes far beyond just the events of the past few years. And our colleague and friend at WFPL, health reporter Ja'Nel Johnson, has a huge project out this week looking at racial disparities in health care. It's called Sick & Tired, and she joins us for our feature interview, to tell us about some things that were brought to light in the project--though they weren't necessarily news to Ja'Nel herself. "This is my life. This is my parents' life this is my sister, my uncles, my aunts, my friends. These are the everyday struggles," she explains. "Really I just want to try to educate other people who may not understand and realize that there are still people in this country who do not have fair access to healthcare because of race, because of their income, or educational levels, or other things like that." Sick & Tired is a four-part series. On our show this week, we listen to the feature about violence as a public health issue. You can listen to the whole series at wfpl.org.

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the second study session on one of the most popular texts in the world, The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told To Alex Haley (1965). This broadcast will air one day before the 50 year anniversary of Minister Malcolm's assassination. With the global focus on police terrorism, the efficacy of marching, the impact of White Jesus/Christianity, government spying, and Muslim-bashing, it seemed timely to get reacquainted with "Detroit Red." Listeners should remain mindful that there are reportedly significant portions of this memoir that have never been released to the public. Last week's session outlined the impact of Marcus Garvey on the world view of his parents. We also learned how the contamination of colorism (light skin/dark skin) affected his mother and father in explicit ways. His father was assassinated by a gang of White Terrorists. Minister Malcolm's mother was attacked by White insurance and social workers who blocked Earl Little's insurance policy, obliterated the family by removing her children, and had her institutionalized. As we continue, listeners are encouraged to keep this text in mind when searching for patience to share with black people. published on Apr 6, 2013 Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican-born black nationalist founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) created a 'Back to Africa' movement in the United States. He became an inspirational figure for later Civil/Human rights activists including Malcolm X who's father Earl Little, a Baptist preacher worked with Marcus Garvey before he was murdered . Marcus Mosiah Garvey (1887-1940) leader of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, first African-American leader in American history to organize masses of people in a political movement Garvey was born in Jamaica and immigrated to Harlem in 1916 at the age of 28. In his homeland he had been an admirer of Booker T. Washington's philosophy of self-improvement for people of African descent and had formed the Jamaica Improvement Association. When he arrived in America his ideas expanded and he became a Black Nationalist. For him, Africa was the ancestral home and spiritual base for all people of African descent. His political goal was to take Africa back from European domination and build a free and United Black Africa. He advocated the Back-to-Africa Movement and organized a shipping company called the Black Star Line which was part of his program to conduct international trade between black Africans and the rest of the world in order to “uplift the race” and eventually return to Africa. Garvey studied all of the literature he could find on African history and culture and decided to launch the Universal Negro Improvement Association with the goal of unifying “all the Negro peoples of the world into one great body and to establish a country and government absolutely on their own”. The motto of the U.N.I.A. was “One God! One Aim! One Destiny.” more http://www.marcusgarvey.com/pages/bio

Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother, Louis Norton Little, was a homemaker occupied with the family's eight children. His father, Earl Little, was an outspoken Baptist minister and avid supporter of Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Earl's civil rights activism prompted death threats from the white supremacist organization Black Legion, forcing the family to relocate twice before Malcolm's fourth birthday. Regardless of the Little's efforts to elude the Legion, in 1929 their Lansing, Michigan home was burned to the ground, and two years later Earl's mutilated body was found lying across the town's trolley tracks. Police ruled both accidents, but the Little's were certain that members of the Black Legion were responsible. Louise had an emotional breakdown several years after the death of her husband and was committed to a mental institution. Her children were split up amongst various foster homes and orphanages.
