Preslav aka buildorburn discusses the Grixis Jewel deck in Legacy. The deck aims to establish an infinite turn loop with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn using Coveted Jewel. Its got it all! Card advantage, mana advantage, stack superiority, and time & life total management. It has multiple versions, but the fetchland version with surveil lands and dual lands is favored for its ability to combat Delver and Rescaminator decks. The Eldrazi will be descending on Innistrad again with Shadows Over Innistrad: Remastered coming to Magic: the Gathering Arena on March 21, 2023. Emrakul, the Promised End is the massive mythic of the set that has an opportunity to shake up gameplay in both Historic and Explorer after its released. I, for one, am looking forward to it. The current top dog of the NRG Series leaderboard joins us to discuss all things Modern for all your RCQ preparation needs. Zach Allen returns for a conversation about the various types of 4C Yorion decks, the merits of Murktide's flex spots, the position of green creature combo decks, and his favorite ways to cascade right now. Sure you can play the best deck when you try to take down your Modern RCQ, but what is the best deck REALLY? Turns out, there might be more than one... And when you least expect it, surprise, a maindeck Emrakul! Ready for another suprise? Boom, you just lost to burn on turn 4 before your Omnath could even do anything. Season 14, Episode 22: Modern State of the Format + Picks of the Week Two weeks ago, WotC declared Modern healthy and functioning as intended. No deck has too large of a meta share, the most popular deck (Izzet Murktide) is beatable, and plenty of people still succeed with their brews. But at high level Modern tournaments, the top tables tell a different story. Three archetypes duel for dominance: the best control deck (4c Good Stuff), the best disruptive tempo teck (currently Izzet Murktide), and the best combo deck (currently Living End). It is a rock-paper-scissors dynamic that lesser decks struggle to disrupt. Today on Faithless Brewing we put Modern under the microscope and dig into the top decks. Morde has been crushing with 4c Midrange lately (including a Top 32 finish in the Showcase Challenge two weeks ago) and shares his insights into the delirium package, the Elementals package, the importance of Wrenn and Six, and the strategy's inherent variance. At the same time, other players have turned to big mana combos like RG TitanShift and alternative tempo shells like Grixis Ledger Shredder (formerly Grixis Death's Shadow) to attack the format. Finally, for the brewers at heart, we look at six under the radar decks that have recently found success in MTGO leagues. The rogue strategies pair forgotten classics like Vendilion Clique, Serum Powder, and Frantic Inventory with surprising new tech like Experimental Synthesizer, Michiko's Reign of Truth, and Haktos the Unscarred. There's still plenty of space to innovate in Modern if you are willing to brew outside the box! **** Like our content? Faithless Brewing, Episode 52: Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast Somewhere in the Multiverse, there are grizzled veterans who played Polymorph before it was cool. Those players are bankrupt now, their tickets squandered, their play points long depleted. Finding Polymorph fodder when Emrakul can be your only creature will take you down strange and lonely deckbuilding paths (yes, we see you Dwarven Mine). Enter Lukka, the newest addition to the roster of red planeswalkers. Lukka's -2 is a Polymorph with a twist: it only finds creatures of higher converted mana cost. Small change, massive upside. What if we could have our mana dorks, and eat our spaghetti monster too? What if we could graft a Polymorph endgame onto an already functional ramp curve? Things just got very interesting. This week we spin the wheel with Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast, in Modern, Pioneer, and even a touch of Standard. The best part about Lukka? He's not a Companion. The worst part about Lukka? Yeah, he's probably friends with Companions. But we're willing to forgive him if his critter pals deliver the goods. Happy brewing! If you love drafting and playing Frontier, or if you wanted to get your friends to play the format with you, there's really only one way to make it happen: Cubing. There are a number of reasons to build a Frontier cube. It mixes some of the best draft formats in recent memory (KTK block), puts some powerful cards in your hand such as Ulamog and Emrakul, and also lets you field a variety of archetypes from past standards that really became fleshed out with the Frontier card pool. In this episode Kevin and I had on a Cubing aficionado to help us build a Frontier cube. We covered the basics of building a cube, talked about what cards we'd include if we were building a cube for Frontier, and also talked about various ways you could build the cube to keep it fresh and fun for you and your friends. Great topic for casual players everywhere!

Rise Of The Eldrazi has finally been released upon the world, much like Emrakul's own escape upon the plane of Zendikar, and Lennox and Chad discuss their first hands-on experience with the new cards at their pre-releases. They look at what hits and misses they made in their predictions (hint: regress is good in limited), as well as cards that weren't even on their radar. They also discuss the decks they and their opponents played and what they think of the format so far... Zendikar is a world full of dangerous terrain under foot and floating blocks in the sky, and it looks a lot like the Mushroom Kingdom if you squint hard enough. The only thing it's missing garish green pipes. This tenuous connection is all the excuse needed to make this episode's video game theme Super Mario! Just don't try jumping on the top of an Eldrazi! Rise Of The Eldrazi is around the proverbial corner and this week Lennox is joined by new co-hosts Chad and Iain to parse the incomplete spoiler and give their take on how the set is shaping up. From the mighty Emrakul, the Aeons Torn to the ineffective Glory Seeker, the trio undertake the mammoth (umbra) task of simultaneously breaking down the set so far, and making terrible puns. What game is more fitting to provide the intro music for a 'cast looking at big creatures than Shadow Of The Colossus by Team Ico? We couldn't think of one either and that's why SotC ended up being this week's videogame theme.
