Is a pregnant nun about to crash Poland's election?

In theory, the government's guy looks set to win Poland's presidential election, making life a hell of a lot easier for Donald Tusk as he attempts to undo eight years of destructive authoritarian rule under the previous rightwing populists. But might a pregnant nun swoop in and change everything at the last minute? For an explanation of this metaphor (and yes, it is just a metaphor), listen in to this week's great interview with Poland's best political YouTubers, Dominika Sitnicka and Agata Szczęśniak. We're also digging into Sweden's plans to crack down on porn influencers, and celebrating the sweeter side of last week's mass blackouts in Spain and Portugal.    Dominika and Agata are reporters at OKO.PRESS and co-hosts of its YouTube show, Program Polityczny (which can be watched with English auto-subtitles).   Thanks for listening. The world is in flux. What's Europe's place in it, exactly? This week, we're bringing you something different: a big, sprawling conversation with leading European historian Timothy Garton Ash. What can other parts of the world learn from Ukraine, as it pioneers bringing acts of ecocide into the discussion of justice in the context of war?Ukraine is not only having to confront the destruction of human life and infrastructure caused by Russia's invasion but also having to deal with damage to the environment. The question of the environment is closely linked to that of justice. Ukraine is a pioneer in bringing the acts of ecocide into the discussion of justice in the context of war. The lessons of Ukraine are thus of vital importance to those parts of the world that suffer from environmental damage in the context of armed conflicts, climate breakdown, and other crises. An expert panel gathers at the RSA to foster public discussion and continued cooperation between organisations and individuals for an ongoing environmentally focused conversation about the consequences of Russia's war in Ukraine, situated in the context of wider environmental challenges faced globally. This event is held in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute London, the Delegation of Flanders (Embassy of Belgium) in the UK and Ireland, Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland, the Cyprus High Commission and EUNIC London (European Union National Institutes for Culture). The event is made possible thanks to the financial support of the Culture of Solidarity Fund powered by the European Cultural Foundation.#RSAUILBecome an RSA Events sponsor: https://utm.guru/ueembDonate to The RSA: https://utm.guru/udNNBFollow RSA Events on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thersaorg/Follow the RSA on Twitter: https://twitter.com/theRSAorgLike RSA Events on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theRSAorg/Listen to RSA Events podcasts: https://bit.ly/35EyQYUJoin our Fellowship: https://www.thersa.org/fellowship/join

Memorial redress and indigenous epistemological representations are invoked to fight binary oppositions and hierarchies between the whites and the non-whites, the center and the periphery, those deemed superiors or inferiors.

Our guest in this episode is curator, author, and educator Ana Devic. She is best known as a member of the curatorial collective What, How and for Whom (WHW). Formed in 1999, WHW is an exemplary case in the history of curatorial studies.Ana Devic is also in charge of the international study program for young artists called WHW Akademija based in Zagreb. With Ana, we'll further our exploration into other modes of engaging with artistic practice and hear about other possibilities, within and through art and politics. Her take on collectivity, as a spark rather than a value in and of itself; her emphasis on encounters and accessibility, and formal and informal modes of learning were really thought-provoking.EPISODE NOTES AND LINKSThis episode's conversation is part of the collaborative project ‘Communities of Learning, Bridging the Gap of Isolation', initiated by WHW and supported by the Culture of Solidarity Fund of the European Cultural Foundation.Ana Devic is a curator, writer, and teacher Ana Dević and a member of the curatorial collective What, How and from Whom (WHW). https://www.whw.hr/novosti/index.html#Formed in 1999, the curatorial collective What, How and for Whom (WHW) is an exemplary case in the history of curatorial studies.
