Have any of you been abroad in the fields during the past week? If so, you must have marked the waning year. The leaves are fading all around us, clothing the departing year with a wonderful beauty. As they fade away one by one, they preach to us, and say, "You, too, O men, will soon fall to earth and wither!" Have you heard the sermons of the falling leaves? You say to yourselves, "Winter will soon be here." You begin to store up your stocks of fuel to meet the coming cold. But do you not see those gray hairs upon your head--are they not wintry tokens too? Do you not note those trembling limbs, those loosened sinews, that furrowed brow? Do not these betoken that your winter is hastening on? Have you made no provision for eternity? Will you be driven away forever, where there shall be no hope? Have you laid up no stores of comfort for another world? O fools, and slow of heart--even the birds of the air rebuke you! It was but the other day I saw the swallows gathering, and away they flew across the sea to sunnier climates. They did not wait here until all their food was gone and they must famish. No, they took to themselves wings, and followed the sun. Has all the wisdom entered into birds--and have men none left? "Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons, and the dove, the swift and the thrush observe the time of their migration. But My people do not know the requirements of the LORD." Jeremiah 8:7Will you wait in this poor world, and linger among its dying joys--until you die and perish forever? Oh, that you would take the wings of faith, and fly where the Sun of Righteousness points out the way, and you will reach the land of everlasting summer, wh

Shadowboxing: Unmasking the Monsters Within In this episode of the sermon series 'Shadowboxing: Confronting the Monsters Within,' we explore the concept of the 'false self' and the inner 'monster' through personal anecdotes and literary references like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. By delving into the Bible story of Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, and Esau from Genesis 27:1-20, we uncover the masks we wear to navigate life's challenges and seek acceptance. Insights from Christian psychologist David Benner and the Enneagram help us differentiate the false self from our true God-given identity. The sermon concludes with reflections on autumn's symbolism of letting go, inspired by Lucille Clifton's poem, 'The Lesson of the Falling Leaves.' 00:00 A Memorable Mistake in London 03:06 Facing Fears and Cultural Monsters 06:43 Exploring the Monster Within 07:29 The Tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 11:09 The False Self and Genesis 27 15:54 Setting the Stage: Isaac's Prayer and Rebecca's Revelation 16:20 Jacob and Esau: The Struggle Begins 17:12 The Shrewdness of Rebecca and Jacob 18:43 The Deception Unfolds: Jacob's Mask 20:12 The Consequences of Deception 20:45 Reflecting on Identity and the False Self 21:56 Understanding the False Self in Christian Context 22:46 Personal Journey: Confronting the False Self 23:34 The Enneagram and Self-Discovery 25:34 Jacob's Transformation: From Supplanter to Israel 27:00 The Struggle of Marginalized Identities 28:11 The Spiritual Journey: Losing the Self to Find the Self 28:55 Confronting Our Fears: The Lesson of the Falling Leaves

We're a bit weary of garage rock tropes, so it's time to head to the country. First this week is "The Woods" by The Nickel Bag. This 66er advocates leaving the city, but should you follow this pied piper? I might - the swirling organ has me hyp - mo - tized!! That same year, the "Old Macdonald" nursery rhyme got rewritten by some LA weirdos - The Seeds  called it  "Mr. Farmer." Lots of seedy sibilance, and when has Sky Saxon ever ssssteered you wrong? Let's cross the pond to celebrate the changing seasons with "Falling Leaves"by Scotland's Studio Six. A mod pagan ritual! The final idyll comes courtesy of England's The Factory and their 68 psych out, "Path Through The Forest." These guys take us way out - maybe too far!! Won't you come along??? As if we want to protect ourselves from the bruise or the wound we could get if we fall. As if we want to protect ourselves from the unknown. But what's another normal process of falling? Right, to fall.I mean, that's what we do regularly when we are kids. Fall down the stairs. Fall back on our bums out of simply standing around. A bit falling here and a bit falling there. We might cry, but we get back up and go off."Duration: 10 minutes Enjoy!Hugs, AnnAInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/annathetimeexpert/

Summer often departs unwillingly, with warm days that linger into autumn. In years to come, the transition will probably take even longer, but eventually the sun sinks ever lower, the days grow shorter, the light dims, and the natural world prepares for the long winter to come: drying, darkening, withering, dropping, and dying — to be reborn. The music of the season slows, darkens, and takes on a more somber affect, echoing the complex colors and diminishing energy of autumn, as the sun withdraws to its winter retreat. On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, an electro-acoustic journey in the autumn soundscape, on a program called FALLING LEAVES. Music is by LUDOVICO EINAUDI, JOHANN JOHANNSON, KEVIN KELLER, MARCONI UNION, DIATONIS, TIM STORY & HANS-JOACHIM ROEDELIUS, ROBIN GUTHRIE & HAROLD BUDD, and BRIAN ENO.
