The event, which featured performances by Primus, Mastodon, and Coheed and Cambria, was marred by TOOL's decision to play similar sets on both Friday and Saturday nights. Despite promises of unique performances, the band repeated four songs—"Fear Inoculum," "Rosetta Stoned," "Pneuma," and "Jambi"—leaving fans feeling shortchanged and prompting boos at the end of the second show. The high cost of attending the festival, which required purchasing vacation packages, further exacerbated fan disappointment, with some even considering a class-action lawsuit. This reaction highlights the high expectations fans have for TOOL's live performances, which often feature complex and atmospheric music that explores philosophical themes.” (Perplexity) ______Hosted by: Luke = https://bsky.app/profile/rockednet.bsky.social Alex = https://bsky.app/profile/voiceofalex.bsky.social Rowan = https://bsky.app/profile/rowbuck01.bsky.social

It's always a treat to talk about “hometown” metal, especially when it's one of the heaviest, most modern, progressive metal bands in the entire genre. Actually, to call them “prog” might be a bit misleading, although “progressive” is certainly an apropos descriptor for the shared artistic odyssey which Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher, and Troy Sanders (collectively known as MASTODON) had embarked upon more than 20 years ago and are still going strong with no sign of stopping any time soon.   Perhaps the more accurate description of MASTODON is “Atlanta's own shamans of megalithic, caveman powered, super technical, stoner sludge prog metal” (and any other applicable subgenres we might've missed).   It's time to get “in the loop” and fully comprehend the best way NOT to drive down Blood Mountain to minimize vehicular induced toddler vomitus whilst mentally preparing to welcome “B.G.” to the “T&T Main Stage” as we do our best to “MRFA” while screaming excerpts from “Brave Tales of Taintler” into the “echo chamber” as you JOIN US for the “pure girth” of MASTODON Inside The Metal (ATL-Edition), Chapter 1: The Aughts (2000-2009).   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your Podcasts. Hell Bent For Metal celebrates when White Ward very recently stood Side By Side with us, and made their stand against homophobia completely clear in as vocal a way as they could. As they're one of the hosts' favourite bands, this one felt personal. In a very, very good way.The absolutely classic Dio anthem 'Holy Diver' is this week's Camp Classic, as both Tom and Matt immediately agree that it speaks to their queer sides, in many different ways – which leads to a bucketload of digressions about growing up queer. There's some brief queer metal news regarding Bloodstock and Mastodon.Plus there's the usual visit to the Hate Crew Gaybar, where this week's picks for the jukebox are Swagger And Stroll  Down The Rabbit Hole by Diablo Swing Orchestra, and Diorama by Møl. And it's safe to say that there has never been less agreement in the bar.

Sence & Doug Welcome their first guest to the show. Guitarist/Artist Gery Klappert. Gery goes way back with Alex Blue on drums/vocals with Azur while pondering the idea of starting a group from the ground up as ultimately preferable to joining someone else's band. Ensembles without bassists are debated as well and Gery's guitar centric mindset mined mainly through the power of Jimi Hendrix realized. Age differences and generations dealt with. Spoiler alert. Gery K. born in 1988, Soundsational in 1974 and Death Metal in 1968 making him the resident old fart of the crew. We find out Gen X has four years pre Death and four years post Sound. "Groovy" as they say. DMD unwittingly showboats a friendship with Brent Hinds of Mastadon. Fishing for ratings he exploits any situation thrown his way so watch out, snookums! The spiel moves toward Toxic Masculinity rearing its beautiful head once again in an obscure name choice by SNS "The Phallic Principle" and the process of picking a moniker that is imaginative enough to avoid another prissy, pissy pants group and their pesky attorneys composing the letter nasty. And speaking of nasty Alex gets off performing near strip club Scarlet's with neighbors and happy endings. One could wager he's in tha dog house as he gets home. Addiction and genuine sickness are acknowledged. "The worst drug. Musicians buying gear is like a drug! There is no rehab for it." Gery describes a Motorhead covers w/ Mudknuckles (feat. Ray of Load on lead vocals) at Churchills and having 3 days to learn the set. All this with his wife in the hospital! Talk about pressure. Sence describes a "he who shall not be named" circumstance as subject matter devolves into naked haircuts and what not. (P.S. Mastodon’s Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher got together with their old pal Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage to talk metal for our podcast. Except, that didn’t really happen. Instead, the guys had an impromptu riff session, including hilarious off-the-cuff stories about how Mastodon’s Brent Hinds taught Jesse to save his tour per diems for drugs, Phil Anselmo of Pantera’s bathroom antics, Bill’s high school breakdance troupe, Troy’s recommendation for the perfect place to dump a body, and so much more. This week we talk with John Kevill of Warbringer. He discusses the long delay between records, the starting-over process that occurred between album cycles and the direction of the latest record Woe to the Vanquished. We also get into his knowledge of history and his take on the current era -- the best time to be alive, according to him -- and he throws down an epic Arnold monologue per our request. Brandon and Petar introduce you to Brent Hinds' new fast food restaurant, tackle the Harlott vs. Slayer similarities and break down the argument of plagiarism vs. homage, and discuss why Tool joining streaming services so late may work in their favor.  Songs: Warbringer - “Silhouettes” Warbringer - “Remain Violent”

This week we have legendary Bolt Thrower vocalist Karl Willetts on the show to discuss his new project Memoriam. We talk about his approach to lyrics on Memoriam's new album For the Fallen, which Bolt Thrower songs they plan on playing live, what he envisioned when he decided to create a new band, the decision to end Bolt Thrower after Kiddie's passing, and what newer bands he's digging. Brandon and Petar find a company that helps out the unappreciated bass player, discuss James Hetfield's recent comments about “Escape," talk about Marduk and their statement on the Oakland concert cancellation, Judas Priest not being metal according to Brent Hinds, Steve Tucker's promises that new Morbid Angel will be death metal, and the new Baroness/Neurosis punk cover tribute band. Songs: Memoriam - "Reduced to Zero" Memoriam - "Surrounded (By Death)"

This week we recorded a bit early due to real life stuff. As such, we have a lot of asides in our discussions. We still talk about some news. Like the new Ulver song, Mastodon's Brent Hinds claiming Judas Priest aren't metal, new Carach Angren, and Iapetus. The underrated release Eden highlights is Atsuko Chiba's Jinn. We then have an extended discussion on "the cult of the new", and finally an extended discussion on Logan, the send-off to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Bonus points if you figure out why I keep saying "we got the money shot".
