Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we talk about someone who is one of the most well-liked celebrities alive: Queen Latifah! Our guest today is KT from the great podcast "For Your Reference." Our B-Sides today are: Living Out Loud, Last Holiday, Just Wright, and Joyful Noise. We also discuss Queen's book, her iconic BET Lifetime Achievement Award Speech, her music career, and her chances of making it to E.G.O.T. status. There's lively discussion about her undeniable, universal likeability, her impeccable taste in leading men, a deep appreciation for Michael Ealy, and complements to Queen's performance in Bessie. There's respect paid to the full life she's lived, there's criticism levelled at the basketball Common plays in Just Wright, as well as a thorough discussion of Paula Patton's contributions to the film. We marvel at the ‘90s sheen of Living Out Loud and the timelessness of Last Holiday's message and positive energy. And, finally, there's that scene between Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton in Joyful Noise. Be sure to give us a follow on social at @TFSBSide. We're so excited to welcome the amazing KT of the For Your Reference podcast to come on and discuss a savior from down under, 2002's Black and White. Did Cameron watch an entirely different film called Black and White? Yes. Did both have white people saying crazy things? Also yes. We discuss how the savior trope persists across countries, aboriginal representation in film, and the UK's sexiest man. The For Your Reference pod is one of our faves, and should be one of yours too! From interviews to film reviews to just great conversations, please, please, check them out! Find them at @foryourefpod on the socials and check out their linktree. We're also doing the rounds for guests, so if you have suggestions, always feel free to hit us up at @white_pod or at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We'll be back in two weeks with...Black and White (Cameron's version).

For the inaugural episode of Popcorn Pals, we decided to go under the sea with KT and Oti from For Your Reference podcast to discuss Disney's latest live-action remake, The Little Mermaid. Starring Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, The Little Mermaid reimagines the 1989 Oscar winning animated classic about a young mermaid Ariel (Bailey) who makes a deal with Ursula the Sea Witch (McCarthy) to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince. There is much to unpack from Bailey's powerful performance, Ursula's posture, a Lin-Manuel Miranda rap and the hits and misses surrounding the story and visuals. Find out what your podcast pals thought in an episode saltier than the sea itself.Popcorn Pals is a Popcorn Podcast with Leigh and Tim spin-off series.Check out our pals KT and Oti over at For Your Reference podcastKnow someone who loves movies? Bipolar has its ups and downs, and today we’re going to talk about the up: manic. I used to cherish my manic episodes. I wasn’t sure what happened, but it was a miracle that my severe depression had broken and I finally was able to get things done AND do them really well. I had energy! I could clean the whole house. I could get ahead on my projects and hell, start some new ones while I was at it. I was social, witty, funny. My brain was back in action. I drank coffee and it made everything feel even better, so I drank more and more. At some point, the fun ran out and all that was left was anxiety. The same level of go-go-go energy was there, the same sleepless nights, the same brain jumping to a new thought every few seconds. In this episode, I go through my symptoms of manic and all the confusion that comes with it. Below, I’ve linked previous episodes that either indirectly talked about my bipolar or were recorded when I was or was about to be manic. What fun! Have a lovely week, Heifers. Moo, Elaine Want to support Angus Eye Tea? Check out my Patreon at www.patreon.com/anguseyetea with tiers starting as low as $1! TIMESTAMPS 00:00 The hype begins. 1:17 Explaining the basics of manic/hypomanic episodes. I’ll be using “manic” as the main term for the remainder of the episode. 3:22 Examples of times I panicked on the podcast, as well as episodes that were directly about me being bipolar but I talked around it because I hadn’t unleashed that revelation yet! Episodes that were secretly bipolar related: Why I Didn’t Settle On My Medication How to “Come Out” with a Mental Health Disorder The surge of guests in April/Spring of last year My ShePodcasts Live 2019 Experience (Anxious Traveler): I stay up late folding laundry, talking about how 2019 is “not my year,” feeling very anxious One I didn’t mention in the pod, How to Manage Multiple Creative Projects | this is a cry for help lol 9:21 What are my manic symptoms? First up: talking fast. 12:51 Racing thoughts are fun, aren’t they? SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK. 15:27 Caffeine abuse and cleaning up my act so I didn’t have to go through another medication change. 19:32 Brain is only on one setting: GO, GO, GO. Which means that once the happy drains away, anxiety picks up and moves at the same speed. Everything becomes explosive. 22:35 Those are my main symptoms, and as a reminder, this would go on for a few days, not just for an hour. I used to wake up and wait for a beat to see what kind of day I would have: happy and joyous? Extremely anxious? Super depressed? 23:33 Why it’s easy to love my manic episodes and how it’s hard to try to quell it. 26:23 Overall feelings of my manic. A question I have to ask myself a lot these days, am I happy and excited? Or am I manic? I don’t always know the answer. 30:13 SHOUT OUT TO MY PATRONS: KT and Oti from For Your Reference pod, Laura, Taylor from Who Knows? pod, Rachel, and Vanessa from Fabled pod! *** If you enjoy this podcast, please consider giving it a review! In the European Union alone over 9 million tons of cheese are consumed every year. 9 MILLION TONS! And hey, per capita the United States is second place behind EU denizens, consuming a mere 37 pounds of cheese per person per year. Anyway, what is cheese? How is it made? Why does milk have nanoparticles in it? All this and more on this first episode of a two parter on cheese! I know, I can't believe we had to cut an episode on cheese in two. Hello, Heifers and Hipster Witches alike! Our favorite Astrologer Crystal Warren is BACK and this time she’s reading ME to FILTH. If you’re new to this mini-series and/or have no idea where to even begin with this topic, I'd recommend starting with the first episode we did, When The World is on Fire, Can You Turn to the Stars?, which covers some of the basics of astrology, FAQs for an astrologer, etc. Today, Crystal unravels my birth chart, revealing hidden traits I possess, my life’s purpose, and yes, even my PAST LIVES (I know a lot of you were dying to know this after our last episode together!). This is just a taste of how much astrology can explore your life. Since 2020 has been a lot, we’re finding that a lot of people are searching for balance through different avenues. So, Crystal and I thought it would be fun to demonstrate an astrological reading as a potential option! If you’re curious about what your chart might look like then Crystal is an excellent person to turn to! She does readings and can help narrow in on any questions or problems you may have. You can find her on her website at insightfullycrystal.com and on Insta and Facebook @insightfullycrytsal. BONUS FUN: I guested on the For Your Reference podcast where we talked about my FAVORITE MOVIE EVER, Anastasia.
