Lesson of the Day 200 - There Is No Peace Except The Peace Of God with Wolter

Voice From Heaven

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 18, 2024 56:57

LESSON 200There Is No Peace Except The Peace Of God.Seek you no further. You will not find peace except the peace of God. Accept this fact, and save yourself the agony of yet more bitter disappointments, bleak despair, and sense of icy hopelessness and doubt. Seek you no further. There is nothing else for you to find except the peace of God, unless you seek for misery and pain. This is the final point to which each one must come at last, to lay aside all hope of finding happiness where there is none; of being saved by what can only hurt; of making peace of chaos, joy of pain, and Heaven out of hell. Attempt no more to win through losing, nor to die to live. You cannot but be asking for defeat.Yet you can ask as easily for love, for happiness, and for eternal life in peace that has no ending. Ask for this, and you can only win. To ask for what you have already must succeed. To ask that what is false be true can only fail. Forgive yourself for vain imaginings, and seek no longer what you cannot find. For what could be more foolish than to seek and seek and seek again for hell, when you have but to look with open eyes to find that Heaven lies before you, through a door that opens easily to welcome you?Come home. You have not found your happiness in foreign places and in alien forms that have no meaning to you, though you sought to make them meaningful. This world is not where you belong. You are a stranger here. But it is given you to find the means whereby the world no longer seems to be a prison house or jail for anyone.Freedom is given you where you beheld but chains and iron doors. But you must change your mind about the purpose of the world, if you would find escape. You will be bound till all the world is seen by you as blessed, and everyone made free of your mistakes and honored as he is. You made him not; no more yourself. And as you free the one, the other is accepted as he is.What does forgiveness do? In truth it has no function, and does nothing. For it is unknown in Heaven. It is only hell where it is needed, and where it must serve a mighty function. Is not the escape of God's beloved Son from evil dreams that he imagines, yet believes are true, a worthy purpose? Who could hope for more, while there appears to be a choice to make between success and failure; love and fear? There is no peace except the peace of God, because He has one Son who cannot make a world in opposition to God's Will and to his own, which is the same as His. What could he hope to find in such a world? It cannot have reality, because it never was created. Is it here that he would seek for peace? Or must he see that, as he looks on it, the world can but deceive? Yet can he learn to look on it another way, and find the peace of God.Peace is the bridge that everyone will cross, to leave this world behind. But peace begins within the world perceived as different, and leading from this fresh perception to the gate of Heaven and the way beyond. Peace is the answer to conflicting goals, to senseless journeys, frantic, vain pursuits, and meaningless endeavors. Now the way is easy, sloping gently toward the bridge where freedom lies within the peace of God.Let us not lose our way again today. We go to Heaven, and the path is straight. Only if we attempt to wander can there be delay, and needless wasted time on thorny byways. God alone is sure, and He will guide our footsteps. He will not desert His Son in need, nor let him stray forever from his home. The Father calls; the Son will hear. And that is all there is to what appears to be a world apart from God, where bodies have reality. Now is there silence. Seek no further. You have come to where the road is carpeted with leaves of false desires, fallen from the trees of hopelessness you sought before. Now are they underfoot. And you look up and on toward Heaven, with the body's eyes but serving for an instant longer now. Peace is already recognized at last, and you can feel its soft embrace surround your heart and mind with comfort and with love.Today we seek no idols. Peace can not be found in them. The peace of God is ours, and only this will we accept and want. Peace be to us today. For we have found a simple, happy way to leave the world of ambiguity, and to replace our shifting goals and solitary dreams with single purpose and companionship. For peace is union, if it be of God. We seek no further. We are close to home, and draw still nearer every time we say:There is no peace except the peace of God,And I am glad and thankful it is so.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

NOTES: Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.” .  Matthew 18:21-22 (ESV) Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.   Ephesians 4:32 (NLT) “Everyone thinks FORGIVENESS is a lovely idea, until they have SOMETHING to forgive.” - C.S. Lewis. God has forgiven us of a DEBT that we ACCRUED against him that we would never be able to pay BACK. How do I forgive?  Thank GOD for FORGIVING you. Ask God: “WHO do I need to forgive, and for WHAT?” REPENT of your SIN of unforgiveness. Forgive each OFFENSE from your HEART SEAL it with a BLESSING.  Forgiveness is the LANGUAGE of God's KINGDOM, and we have to learn it! BOTTOM LINE: FORGIVE as you have been FORGIVEN. THE CHALLENGE: Follow the STEPS.

I'm not sure forgiveness is real. I like to think of it as a riddle. May this guided meditation encourage ideas related to "forgiveness." It's a process, not a decision or an event. You don't have to forgive everyone. Here are the three phrases we'll work with: 1. I forgive you for the harm you have caused 2. Knowingly or in ignorance, you were suffering and lost 3. I forgive you

The heart is at the center of everything; it's the most important vital organ in our body, second only to the brain. It pumps our blood, which the word says gives us life, and if anything goes wrong with it, the rest of our body will be significantly affected. I guess that's why the Lord says above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. It's funny how the things in the physical often mirror the spiritual, and in this episode, we discuss the condition of the heart, how it comes to be, and where it leads. Follow Us:Our WebsiteInstagramFacebook

This episode is the first of two episodes recorded June 2021 with Kate, Nicole, Luisa, Chona, Tierra and Leslie. With host Cassie Parks they share the current chapter of their journey to manifesting more money and their dreams. In this show we'll discuss forgiveness, letting go, how what you say, think and feel impact what you create when leveraging the law of attraction. And stepping into the being rather than howing when manifesting. More details below. ***Show notes are based on answers submitted prior to the interview. In this episode these women share the amount of money they have manifested and then share their biggest “ah-has” they have had when it comes to leveraging the law of attraction to manifest money and more. Some of those are: Forgivenss is a big piece of letting go, and letting go is a big piece of manifesting. What you say and think and feel is what you create. Stepping into the being vs. doing/HOW-ing manifesting. This has forced me out of my comfort zone and to really step into feeling and being vs. doing and how-ing. I loved when I asked about feeling the need to be perfect or get it right on my assignments when we were on a call. I was nervous about asking the question in front of everyone, but I wanted to show up and be coachable. I felt that because I kept thinking about being "wrong" that I was holding myself back from growing and having the ah-ha moments. Next we talk about the evidence these women have been gathering that tells them what they want is on the way. Next these women share the biggest ways they have been growing into manifestors who attract what they want. Some of these are: I'm consciously practicing trusting my intuition. I'm feeling generally happier! Growing more in my faith and feeling more peace and trust The biggest way I have shifted is trusting more in the universe that money is on its way to me and believing that I deserve it. I've shifted more into being and becoming the person I want to be. Manifest $10K CassieParks.com Pay After You Manifest

Faith Community Bible Church

Slideshow for this message is available  Introduction John 16 There are certain diseases in life that can be deadly and yet on the surface they have no outward symptoms. Take for example heart disease. A doctor might take your blood pressure and check your cholesterol. His eyes narrow in concern as he looks at you. That's not good. What's wrong? I feel fine. Okay maybe you feel fine today, but that is not sustainable. That clamping down, that restriction, those stiff inflexible arteries are creating all this pressure that is going to result in a heart attack. You look fine on the OUTSIDE, but on the INSIDE there's something desperately wrong. Here's another analogy. Take an engine that is slowly running out of oil. On the OUTSIDE, everything seems fine. But on the INSIDE there's very serious problems. Because there's no oil, friction is increasing. When friction increases, heat increases. When heat increases, the materials start expanding. When materials start expanding it creates more friction, which results in oil burning which creates more heat. And all you need to do is apply a slight bit of load, just a few more RPMS and it's only a matter of time before the engine seizes up. You see what's going on on the INSIDE can really affect how you are able to respond to pressure on the OUTSIDE. Some of us are walking around with constricted spirits. Our hearts are filled with worry and clogging things up.And this spiritual heart disease, those constricted vessels, make it so that the heart can't flush out that worry. Instead, there is all sort of mental and emotional friction. Sick hearts don't respond well to pressure. The strain and pressures of life are serious business. On the OUTSIDE, it doesn't appear to be that serious. Everything seems fine. You might look fine on the outside. In a social setting, you laugh. You smile when you are supposed to. But there's a sorrow. You are mourning on the inside. There's something broken internally. Maybe that describes you. You are running out of oil. The temperature is rising. The pressure is rising. There's a sorrow you carry. There's a heaviness you shoulder. There's a discontent and an anxiety that just sits. There's heavy unresolve you carry around in your spirit. It could be tension in your marriage. It could be concern about your children. It could be financial strain. It could be a feeling of insecurity. Things you care about are spinning out of control. Hope diminishes. Increasing and mounting disappointment. You've experienced loss after loss. Some are micro-losses but some are significant. And they add up like thousands of pebbles on a scale. And as far as you can see into the future, there's just a non-stop conveyor belt of loss coming. What are you going to do about that? There's something in our passage today that will truly minister to you in your sorrow. It's really important at this point to manage our expectations about what this passage promises. Here's what it won't do: it won't change your circumstances. You will leave here today and your circumstances will be just as hard. Nothing outside of you will have changed at all. The load will still be there. The weight will all be there. The pressure will all be there. It won't restore any of the things you've lost. But something inside will have changed. It will be like fresh, clean, slippery oil poured into the engine that will reduce the friction and the temperature falls, and it cause it to run smooth and clean and quiet. You have to ask the question, “How is it that Paul sung in prison after having been flogged? How can Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stare into the throat of the furnace and welcome it's flames to the glory of God. How can Jesus for the joy set before him endure the cross?“ That kind of pressure exceeds anything I'm experiencing right now by significant degrees and yet there's a stability, a steadfastness, a certainty that I am certain I do not possess. What do they have that I do not? It has nothing to do with personality, gifting or ability. Here's what they have: the Spirit of God. They have the promised Comforter lubricating the chambers of the heart. We want to do something a bit different today. This week the elders had some new awareness of our need for prayer as a body. Here's the plan for today: - Proclaim the Comfort (Reduced time of preaching) - Pray for the Comfort (Extended time of prayer. I'm going to pray a longer prayer that I have prepared) - Receive the Comfort (Give you a chance to take communion and then pray with the person next to you and really ask God to change) Review So just a paragraph of context here. You remember Jesus is preparing his disciples for coming persecution and his death and departure. They aren't ready for it and worse still, they aren't getting it. They are having are hard time swallowing what feels like a giant horse pill of bad news. They can't get the message down. And so Jesus speaks. And then he speaks it again. So you can see the confusion. You can see the bewilderment. They can't comprehend. Those plain words don't translate to their hearts. They don't understand. Their spiritual senses are impaired which means they can't actually perceive the obvious thing right in front of them. When the senses are impaired, the reality just can't be perceived. For example, a common and rather unique symptom of COVID is losing taste. I'm sure many of you had this distinct pleasure. When I had COVID I completely lost my smell and taste. It's such a strange experience because you bite into a bar of Ghirardelli chocolate, fully expecting to get sent to paradise but instead there's nothing. You might as well be eating cardboard. There's all this flavor available to you but something is not working. The link between the tongue and the brain is broken. And in this case of the disciples, the link between the head and the heart is broken. Jesus is saying to them and he's saying to us, there's truth here that would cause your eyes to roll back in your head with delight. There's spiritual flavors available to you that would send you to another world in ecstasy. But the link is broken. The link is broken such that you can be in direct contact with world changing truth and perceive nothing. Isn't that amazing? Isn't that scary? It causes you to wonder what you are missing? How is that one person so transformed by Jesus and yet it does nothing for me. Let that curiosity drive you. You are noticing something very important. Your becoming aware of your spiritually impaired senses. What this passage teaches is that the Spirit of God can restore that broken link. Look what Jesus does next. He notices that they can taste nothing. He notices they are completely unaffected, completely dull to the spiritual realities, so he says: What he is referencing here is his death and resurrection. In a little while you will not see him. Why? Because he is going to die. He will be in tomb. And they will be crushed. Emotionally, they will be reduced to a heap of crumpled sackcloth. He's going to die. But then again in a little while they will see him. He's going to rise from the dead. And that will be the ultimate moment of celebration. There will be rejoicing, celebration, three shouts, and a heel click. That is going to be some serious emotional whiplash. So Jesus again, in his mercy and grace is trying to prepare them to weather the sorrow that he knows is coming. He wants to get the heart healthy on the INSIDE so when the pressure comes on the OUTSIDE they are able to bear up under the pressure. So we get this incredible analogy here. What Jesus is trying to illustrate is that the suffering they are about to experience will lead to an incredibly joy in the same way that the pain of childbirth leads to the joy of a child. So look to the joy. When you are in the middle of the heat, when the pressure is turned up, when you feel like you are going to crack in half, remember that joy is just about to dawn. So this analogy of pregnancy gives birth to three points. Here's the first. Keep in mind that sorrow is coming. It's a determined reality. There's nothing you can do to stop it. It's coming. Jesus is telling his disciples, you WILL weep and lament. You WILL be sorrowful. Now if the King of Kings tells you that sorrow is coming, then there's no use fighting that point. Do not try to ESCAPE it. It's like trying to fight the setting sun. Cry all you want, worry, and complain or you can accept that the night has a purpose and just crawl in bed and wait for morning. We need to accept that suffering is part of life. Intellectually we may agree, of course, suffering is part of life, but emotionally we still might be miles away from actually accepting that. We hate pain and suffering. We will go to incredible lengths to make sure we never have to suffer. Our core assumptions revolt, “What do you mean accept suffering?” As entitled Americans we firmly believe it's our constitutional right to NOT suffer. And while this kind of aversion to suffering is understandable it is not always possible to remove it, and even more shocking than that, if we don't suffer we will never experience certain types of joy. Suffering is a PREREQUISITE to some of the greatest joys of life. Certain types of joy are only possible through the experience of pain. Here's a few simple examples. Everyone likes a warm fire in the winter. Why? Because it's cold. You have to get cold before the fire feels wonderful. I'm guessing the time you were most thankful for your bed was on the heels of a miserable night on a squeaky bed in a sketchy, dirty hotel. I'm guessing the time you were most refreshed by a glass of water, came on the heels of painful thirst. Jesus is letting them know that the pain that is coming will result in some tremendous joy. The pain is the birth canal of the joy so don't try to escape it. You see, when you realize that joy is coming and that pain is just part of the equation of that joy, you learn to look at the discomfort in a different way. You begin to associate the discomfort with the coming reward. For example, when you are on a long run or hike or you have been slaving away in the yard all day long the body starts barking at you in pain, it's almost possible to look at that pain as a barometer of you future pleasure. You can comfort yourself by the thought, “Man that shower is going to feel great. That double portion of spaghetti that I earned is going to taste amazing.” You don't look for ways to escape the pain. You look through it knowing it's part of the process. That's the more mature version of suffering that Jesus is encouraging. So long as we believe that suffering can be removed by our ingenuity, suffering will be nothing more than an infinitely thick brick wall than can never be demolished. And the more unable you are to remove it, the more painful it will become. One of the greatest antiseptics to suffering is to accept the suffering. Accepting that it can't be changed of course doesn't remove it. But when you finally accept it, that wall of suffering becomes transparent and you can see right through it. In accepting that God has purposes in suffering, he gives you x-ray vision. You can see what's on the other side and it makes it so much more bearable. That's what Jesus is doing here. The pain is necessary. But the joy is certain. Don't try to escape it. It's a package deal. Every mother knows that the only way to have a baby is to go through the screams and agony of childbirth. We live in a day of epidurals, pain medication, and muscle relaxants so a lot of the edge is taken off, but for those of you who didn't get that luxury, you can really appreciate this point. There's only one way and it's through screaming bloody murder. Once this process begins, once the life starts growing, there are not multiple options. There's one option. It's the pain option. It's the suffering option. It's the screaming option. Experienced mothers do this better because they know it can't be debated. It can't be overcome. No use whining. Let's just get this over with. And in the same way if you make your goal in life to escape suffering, that's the surest way to ensure you will never be happy. Jesus is encouraging his disciples to accept the suffering. It's part of the package deal. The hardship is just something to endure, not something that defines you. There's a second thing this analogy of childbirth teaches us. During the solar eclipse here in Idaho, you had the moon perfectly block out the sun. That's the picture. The reward, perfectly blocks out the sorrow, and you shout at the beauty of it. Here's where we see this in the text: When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. Now, one of the things I love most about the Scriptures is that they don't candy-coat life. They are often so raw. The suffering of real people is all through its pages. And in those moments of true, gut-wrenching suffering platitudes don't work. Serious suffering is all-consuming. All serious suffering takes up the entire horizon of your consciousness. All serious suffering will overhwelm and overshadow every true thing you know. In serious suffering you despair of life itself. Childbirth without antiseptic is that kind of torment. When a mother is in childbirth, she has lost sight of the reward. All she cares is that that the suffering go away. She just wants the pain to end. The pain is so intense that future motivations are stripped away. She's blind with pain such that no previous conversation could prepare her for what she is enduring. She focuses on the work of that labor. She has forgotten about the joy. She is working. She is sweating. She is focusing on her breathing. In all serious suffering - in harsh, cruel, and severe suffering - there will be moments when the suffering eclipses the reward; the reward vanishes and all that is left is the pain. Maybe that's you. You can't see the reward. That's true but this is also true. There will be a moment when the reward will eclipse the suffering. When the suffering is completely forgotten and you will happily say, “It was worth it!” There are many amazing things about the labor process, but by far and away the most amazing thing to me about labor is that a woman would ever choose to do it again. **After watching my wife go through that, I thought, “I don't even have to ask.** We are a one-child family.” But you see the reward is great. The pain is eclipsed by the reward. During the suffering the reward is nowhere to be seen. But afterward, the reward is large and beautiful. You will be persecuted for my name sake. You need to settle into the coming night. It won't be easy. It won't be fun. You are going to have to expend all your efforts and concentrate on endurance. You will be in pain that will blind you. But suffer well and I promise you, the pain will soon be forgotten. Do the work of suffering. Face into that blinding suffering with courage knowing it is something you must do. Why? Because the reward is great. So what is this REWARD that eclipses the sorrow? Of course, this is Jesus himself. And one of the main reasons it is so delightful, so worth it is that it is eternal. You can endure an awful lot if you know there is an end in sight. If you just knew how long, you can set the expectation. Suffering is hard, but it doesn't last forever. So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. Do you hear that? The reward is there. An Olympic athlete who wins gold will always have that medal. He will always have those memories and those photos. That's something that can never be taken from him. The arrow of heavenly reward moves in a similar direction. It's a one way street. There is something that is so beautiful that is coming on the backside of that reward and it will last forever. It's eternal. We don't see it now. We see through a glass darkly, but all the pages of the NT rustle with it. The wind of the Spirit blows its fragrance into our imagination. Jesus himself in this text is the reward for the disciples. And Jesus is the reward for us. What will you care of the suffering 10,000 years into heaven's rest? The suffering will only intensify the joy. Those who suffered most in battle have the greatest thankfulness. They have the best stories. They are the war's most sung heroes. If suffering is the path to joy, it almost makes us long for a bit more suffering to intensify heaven's joy. It almost makes us jealous for those who have gone before us and spent their life for Christ. Hebrews 11 You see, he was looking to the reward. He was looking beyond. We have this whole string of faithful witnesses, then later in verse 37 by faith, It makes you realize, that there's a reward of joy waiting for us. And the joy of heaven is Jesus, a joy that never diminishes. God cannot give us a joy apart from Himself because there is no such thing. And you can see this ultimate satisfaction bleeding through in the next verse. In that day, in the day when the delivery is complete, you will ask nothing of me. Why? Because you have what you want. You have what you need. You will be perfectly content. A mother with her newly born baby resting on your chest wants nothing. She is so happy. Christian, that day is coming when we will be happy in Jesus Christ. Psalm 16:11, Psalm 16-17 But until then, until we are with Christ, we must ask. We must petition. And what are we asking for? For Christ! We must ask to see him. We must ask to have vision of who he is so that the problems of this world seem like light and momentary affliction. Because the more we can see Christ, the more he is real, the deeper his person is pressed into the core of who we are, the more joy will bubble to the surface, the more we can accept the trials and difficulties are pathways to our satisfaction. We don't need to get through our suffering to finally get on with God's plan for our life. This is God's plan. And it is through that sorrow that joy will come. If the God of the universe can cause the greatest tragedy of all of human history to be transformed into the greatest achievement blessing then he can certainly take our less significant burdens and redeem them for his good purposes. Communion And that mystery is what we are about to remember in communion. What happens to us in communion is similar to what happens to a photo in a developing studio. In high school, I worked in a developing studio. There was all these steps in the process but my favorite step was at the end. You are in this darkroom and you pull out this piece of highly sensitive photographic paper. And you put it on a light table and expose it to light for just a brief moment. There's just a flash of light across the paper. Now in that moment, that paper was transformed. It's all there. The work is FINISHED. But if you look at the paper there's nothing on it. It's invisible. The change has happened but you can't detect it. So what you do is you dunk that piece of paper in the chemical tank, and slosh it back and forth and slowly over time, the chemicals work on that paper and the image slowly appears over the course of a couple minutes. It was like magic. The chemicals don't do anything but reveal the finished work of the light. And that's a metaphor for what we are about to do here in communion. We are about to celebrate the finished work of Christ's death on the cross. That was a flash of divine light across history. In a moment, in an instant, the curtain was torn in two from top to bottom. That dark inner room of the Holy of Holies was exposed. That shockwave rippled through graveyards past present and future. And that flash of divine love has burned its imprint upon our souls. But it needs to be developed. It needs to be brought out. We need to soak in truth. We need the Spirit to rock us back and forth and let that truth slosh over us so that we could see in us, what has already been accomplished. That is what communion is. We are allowing the truth of the Spirit to slosh over our hearts to help us see the beauty of Christ, to help us to see the matchless perfection of Christ. You see, who Christ is, what he has done, and what he has accomplished, it's all there. It's complete. The work is finished. The seed of that accomplishment will grow in us and one day it will mature and we will finally see Christ for who he is. And it is the Spirit of God, it is HE who will do that for us. Now I don't want to talk about the Spirit of God as if he's not here right now. He is here now. And it is absolutely right to pray for this vision. So I'm going to pray and extended prayer here. Then we are going to prepare for communion. And then we are going to do a soft close to the service where you turn to your neighbor and you pray for these things. Prayer Father in heaven, We are here this morning to confess our need for spiritual sensitivity and spiritual sight. We are like the blind man of John 9. We cannot see. We have so little spiritual understanding. We could talk about these concepts all day long but until they land upon our hearts, UNTIL WE CAN SEE, we are wasting breath, time, and effort. Indeed, we have talked about these things for far too long without change. We need the light of your word to shine upon our shuttered hearts. We need it to penetrate. Lord we fear the condemnation of Isaiah: We fear being a people who keep on hearing but never hear or perceive, who continue to see but never understand, who listen to but only hear the echo of our own voices. Save us. We fear the dullness of our heavy ears our our shaded lids. We fear the hard heart that comes from listening without change. Jesus you came into the world for judgment that those who do not see may see and those who see may become blind. Lord, we confess we do not see. Make us see. We ask that your Spirit speak to us so that we might be able to speak to you. We ask that your Spirit give us sight that we might see you. We ask that your Spirit open our ears so that we might hear you. In every way we need you, Spirit, to awaken our dulled senses. We need to have our appetites awakened, our taste restored, our sight corrected, our hearts illumined. And what do we need to see? In our blind and dulled state we can't even know what spiritual resources we are missing. We cannot detect it. Show us what we cannot know or see. Override our resistance; sharpen our dullness. We are not different than your disciples, there is much more you would love to speak to us but we cannot handle it. Lord make us well so we can handle it. Expand the capacity of our hearts. Increase our well of understanding. Break down the deflectors of pride and selfishness that prevents our ears from hearing. Whatever we need, would you give it? Lord, if it's repentance that we need, we beg you for it. Show us our ruined self! Reveal to us our pride and the bankruptcy of our self-righteousness. Show us that we turn to idols instead of you. Show us our pious perch that needs to be chopped to the ground. Help us repent of our intellectual snobbery. Rid us of the glory-stealing showmanship. Lord if there are relationships in the room that are not right, make them right through repentance. Lord, if there is self-pity and self-centeredness that is destroying progress in growth, bring repentance. If there is addiction, a love of sexual sin, substance abuse, drugs, alcohol, even addiction to media, Lord forgive us. We have made ourselves large and you small. We have stolen your rightful place as Lord and king and sovereign to tell us what is good and best for us. Forgive us Lord. Cut the weeds of sin at the root. If it is our repentance we need to see, we beg that we might see our need for it. If it's your love we need to see, reveal it. Help us to see that no height or depth can separate us from it. That it is being offered to us daily, infinitely, helpfully. That though we struggle with anger, bitterness, and selfishness, you exist in perfect love with perfect peace. And because you love us we leave our concerns, anxieties and cares with you. We cast them on your shoulders because they are broad and wide and because you care for us. Lord may we setup our home near your green pastures because you care for us. Lord we confess by merely behold your love, standing in your presence, just that alone can make us holy, devout, strong and happy. May your love abide in us, gracious God. If it's your forgiveness we need to see then melt our frozen hearts. Help us to see that though our sins are many your mercy is more. Show us that your intercession on our behalf if perfectly effective. Help us to see that though our sins and shortcomings present us with a list of accusations a million miles long; nevertheless they will not stand against us, because all have been laid on Christ. How can it be? Lord even though we are lukewarm and have so little love in our heart for you, you forgive us and love us still. If it's your power we need to see, help us see it. The patterns of sins are nothing before the power of your Spirit. You have parted seas, dropped armies, pulverized city walls with a word. What stronghold is too great for you? What problem cannot the Lord of hosts solve? None. You are greater than our problems. You bring order out of confusion. You bring victory out of defeat. You are greater than our false identities. Lord, save us from our unbelief and our mute, unasking tongues. You are powerful and we confess it. The Lord God omnipotent reigns. If it's a vision of eternity that we need, then help us see it. Our eyes are fixed on this narrow spectrum of time. Oh, if we could just look above the rim of this thimble full of days we call life and look into the sea of eternity, we would be changed. If we could spend a day in heaven and gaze at your throne and the cherubim that cry out HOLY, HOLY, HOLY. If we could stare into the night sky and realize that the billions of galaxies invisible to the naked eye represent the tiniest fractional part of your eternal glory that we will one day behold. Lord, humble us with your greatness and expand our vision of the being we are praying to right now. Lord as we approach the table we remember your sacrifice where ETERNTITY, POWER, FORGIVENSS, LOVE, and RIGHTEOUSNES are all seen. Lord, open our eyes to see it afresh. Change us Holy Spirit. It is a scary thing to allow you to come closer than arms length, but we invite you now. Change us with a view of who you are.

We pray for forgiveness and for the grace to forgive others. In fact, Jesus teaches us that our forgiveness of others determines whether or not we are forgiven. This is not because our forgiveness of others is a work that earns our forgiveness from God. Rather, it is that our forgiveness from God, which is infinite and unconditional, should make us willing to forgive others. If it doesn't, then we have to ask if we've received the forgiveness of God through faith.

Why do I always have to be to one to forgive?

Pat's View: Inspirational stories

Why do I always have to be to one to forgive? On so many occasions, I've told my children and people that I've talked with, "You have to forgive."  And time after time, I've seen the look on their face or heard the words, "Why me? Why are you getting on to me? Do you know what they did?" And  dozen of times (especially my children) I've answered, “I’m talking to you, so let’s focus on what you need to do. You can’t change what they do, but you can change you. You are only responsible for you."   Peter's Question I wonder if that feeling is what prompted Peter's question for Jesus. I would love to know his back story or at least his feelings behind his question, “Lord, how many times do I have to forgive a person that does me wrong? Seven times?" Sounds like a lot of times to me! Knowing Jesus like I know Him, I wonder if He smiled and shook His head as He answered, “No, not 7 times. 70 times 7.” I can almost see Peter’s jaw drop in response to Jesus’ outlandish number.   Jesus had a story too.  Jesus continued with a heart-wrenching story that began with “The kingdom of heaven is like this.” Matthew 18 beginning at verse 23 in the Good News Version says: Once there was a king who decided to check on his servants' accounts. 24He had just begun to do so when one of them was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. 25The servant did not have enough to pay his debt, so the king ordered him to be sold as a slave, with his wife and his children and all that he had, in order to pay the debt. 26The servant fell on his knees before the king. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay you everything!’ 27The king felt sorry for him, so he forgave him the debt and let him go. Are you still with me? 28“Then the man went out and met one of his fellow servants who owed him a few dollars. He grabbed him and started choking him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he said. 29His fellow servant fell down and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back!’ 30But he refused; instead, he had him thrown into jail until he should pay the debt. 31When the other servants saw what had happened, they were very upset and went to the king and told him everything. 32So he called the servant in. ‘You worthless slave!’ he said. ‘I forgave you the whole amount you owed me, just because you asked me to. 33You should have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you.’ 34The king was very angry, and he sent the servant to jail to be punished until he should pay back the whole amount.” Worse than Jail I want to zoom in on verse 34. The way the story is worded here it sounds like jail was this servant’s punishment; which would be bad enough when you realize he would never be able to get out because he wouldn’t have a way to make any money to pay back his debt if he was in jail, especially a sum that big. But, when you look at version after version they all read closer to what the NIV says. The NIV says, “In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured….” So not only did the servant have to endure unending imprisonment, he was tortured.  According to Matthew 18:34; What were the consequences of un-forgiveness? Prison and torture. Jesus continues in verse 35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” That is exactly, exactly what I see repeated in the hearts of people everywhere I go. Un-forgiveness makes you a prisoner. And every time you think of that event or that person, you will be tormented. But that’s not the end of this toxic choice, it will poison you thoughts and your heart.  If you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:15 NLT   If you want to receive forgiveness, and EVERYBODY needs forgiveness, then you must give forgiveness.   How? I know! I know! It’s hard!  And the truth is there are some things you can’t forgive! There I said it…does that make you feel better? But, let me finish that sentence with the bigger truth, There are some thing you can’t forgive without God’s help. Did you forget living for Jesus is not one more self-help program? He never intended for you to do anything alone. He wants to help you in ever area of your life- including forgiveness.   Ask God to help you forgive. I don’t mean one of those quick, in between commercials on TV, prayers. Open your heart to God and deeply and sincerely ask for His help.   Choose, as an act of your will, to forgive. Forgivenss is not an emotion. We will talk about the emotion in a minute, but chose to forgive.   Forgive from your heart. It is a deeper place than your mind. HELPS Word-studies calls the heart “the affective center of our being.”   Give your hurt to God. It is toxic in your heart. When you give your pain to Him, a Divine Exchange can take place- He gives you wholeness.   Psalms 147:3NIV “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.”   It may take some time for your emotions to heal, but they will if you don’t feed them by rehearsing the situation over and over in your mind. This is a prime example of pulling down every thought.   Process the emotion through the lens of truth. Don’t inflate the situation. Seek understanding. Ask for wisdom. Why did this action hurt you? Is there something deeper in your heart that needs to be healed? Sometimes a reliable person can help you process the situation. Choose mercy instead of judgment. Choose love instead of resentment.   Pray for them. So many people miss this step in the process of forgiveness. It is critical! If you refuse to pray for them, then you won’t get whole. Matthew 5:44 NIV “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” When you pray for the person that offended you, the situation becomes a key in God’s hands to release you from the prison of offense and heal you. But, the process doesn’t stop there because you are praying for them. God is able to go to the root of the offender’s heart and heal them too. Hurting people hurt people. God wants to use the situation to bring life to the offender.   Support your choice to forgive with your thoughts. When a thought comes up about the person or the incident that occurred, capture that thought and replace it with one that builds up instead of tears down.   Don’t let your thoughts become toxic. Remind yourself “I’ve forgiven them of that” and then pray for the person. If you feel pain at the thought of that person, then take it to the cross again.   I pray something like this; “Thank you Father for healing my emotions and if there is any little bit of un-forgiveness left then, I repent Father. Heal this hurt. Take the sting out of this memory."   Remember that emotions are signals. What is the signal telling you? "Father, I choose to love them. I release them and believe that you are transforming them into the image of your dear Son."   Your thoughts are like a stream of water. When it is pure, it nourishes your soul, body and spirit. But, when it is polluted with un-forgiveness, bitterness and anger, it poisons you at every level.   Guarding your heart begins with a single thought.

Peace is not possible without forgiveness. Martin Luther King once said, “Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a permanent attitude.”  Forgiveness actually benefits your heart health and your mental well-being.  It is a daily act of living a life of peace.  "Life is an adventure in forgiveness," writer and editor Norman Cousins once stated.  Join us for some tips to help make forgiveness a part of your daily life. Forgivenss can be very difficult.  However, it is much easier to do than living with resentment.  Forgivenss allows you to learn the lessons of life and move foward.  It is important to forgive yourself and others even when they don't ask for it. ***Please note, technical challenges - part of the recording is missing, we don't know what happened.  But if you go here you can read the missing parts.   Mark and Kally Indigo Mountain:  Wellness, Toys & Gifts Follow us and keep up with us on Facebook.

In this message preached from Romans 4:25, Steve Johnstone plumbs the depths of how Paul describes the blessedness of those who believe that Jesus truly is alive from the dead.
