A year after Part I, the Wicked movie franchise returns with For Good, an adaptation of the second act of the Broadway musical. In this episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester examine how Wicked: For Good takes advantage of the movie format, and the passage of time since the original musical was written, to strengthen the character arcs of Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero in tandem with the story's themes. Like Part I, For Good also maximizes the opportunity to include locations, action sequences, and other visual elements which wouldn't be possible in a Broadway stage production. The two new songs written for Wicked: For Good, Elphaba's "No Place Like Home" early in the movie and Glinda's "Girl in the Bubble" near the end, reinforce the two characters' motivations for their crucial decisions in the story. Each song also feels especially timely, directly addressing themes of resistance to oppression, the influence of propaganda, and the emotional and psychological obstacles that sometimes must be overcome to make the right choice and do the right thing. Although the characters had similar motivations in the original Broadway show, the new songs for Wicked: For Good reflect the impact of recent political and social events to drive home themes that perhaps felt a little more abstract and distant to many listeners two decades ago. Along the path of their own respective journeys, Elphaba and Glinda also change the other Wicked characters around them, and ultimately Oz itself. Yet For Good also takes place in the background of The Wizard of Oz in a much more direct way than Part I's story. If there's a weak point in For Good, it's that this movie leans a bit too heavily on the assumption that its audience remembers the details of Dorothy's plotline from the earlier film, an assumption that may not be as workable for a mainstream movie release in 2025 compared to the theatrical musical attendees at the turn of the twenty-first century. Together, though, Wicked: Part I and Wicked: For Good tell a complete story for Elphaba and Glinda, and how they changed each other forever. Sarah is joined by Julie Gildersleeve, Courtney Turckel, and Kelly Turckel; we head to Oz together for a spoiler-filled discussion of how this film expands on the stage musical while weaving more tightly into the events of The Wizard of Oz. With Elphaba in exile and Glinda rising as the "Good" face of the Wizard's regime, the story explores friendship, perception, sacrifice, and what it truly means to be seen as "wicked" or "good." We break down the emotional weight of the film — from Glinda's heartbreaking loneliness beneath her bubbly public persona, to Elphaba's fierce determination to protect the animals and expose the truth. We also dive into standout musical moments, including the heart-breaking "For Good," the haunting "No Good Deed," the introspective "The Girl in the Bubble," and the love song "As Long As You're Mine." The vocals, cinematography, and performances (especially Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo) are nothing short of stunning. In this conversation, they break down everything from capturing on-set vocals to crafting the visceral aerial sequences — all while following Jon M. Chu's vision for a darker, more mature final chapter of the “Wicked” story.“In the first film — ‘world building,' ‘set pieces,' ‘youthful exuberance' — those were all our keywords. And what we were leaning towards with the sound and music. On movie two, we'd already laid that foundation. So ‘emotion' really became our superpower on this one. The characters' emotion always guides the sonic world of each scene. And when you know you're leading towards the song ‘For Good,' which is as deeply emotional and compelling and heartbreaking as any song can get — and it represents the culmination of their relationship — you just have to follow the characters and follow what Jon Chu's vision is for each of these scenes leading up to it.”—Jack Dolman, Supervising Music Editor, “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good”Joining today's conversation: - John Marquis, Supervising Sound Editor / Sound Designer / Re-Recording Mixer - Andy Nelson, Re-Recording Mixer - Jack Dolman, Supervising Music Editor - Nancy Nugent Title, Supervising Sound Editor - Simon Hayes, Production Sound MixerBe sure to check out “Wicked: For Good,” now playing in theaters and Dolby Cinemas®, in Dolby Vision® and Dolby Atmos®. - Our previous episodes of Dolby Creator Lab with the artists behind Wicked: The Cinematography of Wicked: For Good, with Alice Brooks and Jon M. Why Communication In Relationships Breaks Down (and HOW to FIX IT)

"Come On Man" Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 24, 2025 60:11

In this episode, we break down why communication breakdown happens in relationships and how what you think is helping may actually be making things worse. Most men were never taught how emotional pacing affects attraction, respect, or trust inside a long term relationship. They were told to be open, vulnerable, expressive, but no one warned them when to stop talking. You will learn how oversharing breeds disconnection, why explaining your feelings too often can quietly kill intimacy, and how talking it out sometimes sends the wrong message entirely. If you are over 30 and trying to understand why the woman in your life seems distant, less affectionate, or uninterested in what you say, this is the episode you cannot afford to skip. We are not just talking communication skills. We are unpacking power dynamics, emotional pacing, and the invisible ways a man can lose influence even when his heart is in the right place. If you have ever asked, “What happened to us?” This is where the real answer begins.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of November 21, 2025. The wait is over for "Wicked" fans as "Wicked: For Good" finally comes to theaters with a pretty good second act, though it doesn't quite hit the high notes of Part One. The musical sequel is worth watching for the sets, costumes, and Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo's chemistry, but it is missing really connective songs other than "For Good.” Also in theaters is “Rental Family”  with Brendan Fraser, a great-looking, deep-question-asking film about connection that gives a wonderful taste of Japan and its culture.  Finally, the ‘good movie’ train rolls on with the Netflix drama, “Train Dreams.” Starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, it takes you back and immerses you in a different time when life moved at a much different pace, and life shaped you in a much different way.  Movies were so good this week, producer KellieAnn even gives her mini-review of “Wicked: For Good” and “Rental Family” after Andy’s segment. And stay tuned for a deep dive on #Wicked2 this December.  The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy, with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics.  Based in the beautiful Beehive State, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and Deseret News / KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.  Listen regularly on your favorite platform, at kslnewsradio.com, or on the KSLNewsRadio App. Join the conversation on Facebook @FanEffectShow, or Instagram @FanEffectShow. In this episode, we dive deep into Lost Season 3, Episode 17: “Catch-22.” Desmond is once again caught between destiny and desperation as visions pull him toward a mysterious parachutist who may—or may not—be the key to the island's secrets. We explore the episode's themes of fate vs. free will, the emotional weight behind Desmond's attempts to save Charlie, and how a single choice can ripple through the fates of everyone on the island. From cryptic flashes to an unforgettable jungle rescue, we break down the moments that make “Catch-22” one of the season's most intriguing character-driven stories. And speaking of choices that alter destinies, we transition from the mysteries of the island to the magic of Oz. To close out the episode, we shift into a reflection on “For Good” from Wicked—a song about connection, change, and the impact people leave on each other's lives. Just as Desmond and Charlie shape one another's paths, Elphaba and Glinda remind us that even the most unexpected relationships can change us “for good.” Whether you're a fan of time-bending visions or gravity-defying friendships, this episode ties together two powerful narratives about how we influence—and are transformed by—the people who cross our paths.
