The community of Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, has expressed concern over persistant gang-related violence, which they believe was behind the recent stabbing of a school learner by his schoolmate last week. The incident took place at the Lancea Vale Secondary School, where a fire later broke out, resulting in significant damage to three of the school's classrooms in the Grade 8 and Grade 9 block. Hawke's Bay Rugby Union is ensuring a gang-related disorder that ruined a Hastings game doesn't happen again. Eight Young Maori Party players and their coach were inside a van peppered with shotgun pellets as they fled the match against Tamatea Arikinu on Saturday afternoon. No one was injured, and police say there's no ongoing risk to the public. Union chief executive, Jay Campbell, says Tamatea won't be hosting home games for the foreseeable future. "Until such time they can prove to us that they can run and operate home games that deliver safety for our officials, players and spectators- then that will be the staus quo." Residents of Eldorado Park, Westbury and Riverlea are complaining that police are not doing enough to keep gangsters off the streets and to ensure their safety. This follows a spate of alleged gang-related shooting incidents over the weekend that claimed the lives of six people in Westbury and Eldorado Park. Rotorua's mayor has expressed concern over recent attacks, and says at least one incident could have been gang-related. A 15-year-old girl was assaulted by three other girls outside Rotorua Library in the CBD on Monday afternoon. This follows a 13-year-old girl being beaten and left bloodied in an unprovoked attack last week. Mayor Tania Tapsell says she's working alongside the police to devise solutions and prevent similar acts of violence. Extra police have been sent to Palmerston North after a young father was shot on Sunday. Police believe the shooting on Croydon Avenue in the suburb of Highbury is gang-related. A former intelligence community official testified Wednesday on an alleged covert government program to recover and reverse engineer crashed alien spacecraft. David Grusch, a member of a previous Pentagon office tasked with investigating unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAPs, said he was informed of the alleged multi-decade program through his official duties, but was denied access to additional information. A seven-count superseding indictment was unsealed today, charging 10 MS‑13 members and associates with a RICO conspiracy and murder in aid of racketeering, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced. “When reports surfaced that MS-13 had established a presence in the City of Mendota in the Central Valley, a multi-agency investigation was launched,” U.S. Attorney Talbert said. “Today's announcement is a direct result of the arrests in 2018 of 25 individuals on federal and state charges in connection with their Mara Salvatrucha (MS‑13) gang activities. A local councillor says it's lucky nobody died in a gang-related shooting in Pukekohe on Sunday. Dozens of police were called to the area around Birdwood Road East in the southern Auckland town. Four people were injured and taken to hospital as a result. Franklin ward councillor and a former police officer in Pukekohe Andy Baker spoke to Corin Dann.
Police Minister, Bheki Cele, says police must do more to ensure those involved in gang-related violence are arrested. Cele visited the Sophiatown police station in Johannesburg this morning following an escalation of gang violence in the area. The purpose of Cele's visit was to establish the effectiveness of the operational response to the violence, which includes amongst other SAPS units, Crime Intelligence, Public Order Police , Technical Response Team and Anti Gang Unit (AGU). One Direction's “Drag Me Down” video hit the billion-views mark on YouTube on Monday. The video, directed by Ben Turner and Gabe Turner, premiered on the platform in 2015 and was the first from the group without Zayn Malik, who quit several months earlier.
