De skulle försvara Sverige i händelse av en rysk invasion, men vad ska en hemlig motståndsrörelse syssla med om kriget inte kommer? undrar Dan Jönsson. Åsikter som uttrycks är skribentens egna.Lite utanför Hörby i Skåne bodde i mitten på nittonhundratalet lantbrukaren Karl-Göran Persson. Som alla svenska undersåtar hade han fått beredskapsbroschyren Om kriget kommer i brevlådan, dragit sina slutsatser och under ett par decennier byggde han med tonvis av cement och improviserade armeringar om sitt hus till ett bepansrat fort. Där skulle han hysa kungen och regeringen när kriget kom. Det märkliga byggnadsverket, i folkmun kallat Söderto fästning, står kvar än idag som en ruin i leråkern, orubblig och gåtfull – och något i historien om denne udda prepper gör att den dyker upp i tankarna när jag läser om den hemliga, svenska motståndsrörelse som skapades under kalla kriget för att operera bakom fiendens linjer efter en invasion. Stay behind, som den har kallats, verkar ha bestått av en lätt kufisk samling original och hedersknyfflar, som av patriotism och pliktkänsla gått in i en organisation med synnerligen oklara syften och befogenheter och en struktur och en verksamhet som ter sig ytterst svår att få grepp om. Utom att ett flygplan alltid skulle stå redo att föra kungafamiljen till England vid ett nödläge. Och att medlemmarna ägnade sig åt att åka på mystiska söndagsutflykter, kalla varann för lustiga kodnamn och öva på att gömma papperslappar i hemliga brevlådor.Nej, så kan det förstås inte ha varit. Men intrycket jag får när jag läser statsvetaren Johan Wennströms Sveriges sak var vår, ett första försök till genomlysning av denna dunkla, paramilitära organisation, är just det: av någon sorts oförarglig men ändå käckt hjältemodig Ture Sventon-klubb, ett demokratiskt hemvärn som i bästa svenska samförståndsanda samlades runt det nationella intresset, ”Sveriges sak”. Wennström fyller många luckor, rätar ut en hel del principiella frågetecken kring denna organisation som först kom till allmän kännedom i början på nittiotalet och då under visst ståhej eftersom det tycktes peka på att det militära under-täcket-spelet mellan Nato och det officiellt neutrala Sverige var långt mer både ut- och invecklat än någon dittills hade trott. Wennström tillbakavisar den bilden: Stay behind, eller Metro som den möjligen hette egentligen, var ett helsvenskt initiativ och fungerade, skriver han med en lite rörande jämförelse, ungefär på samma sätt som Arbetsmarknadsstyrelsen AMS, i samarbete mellan arbetsmarknadens parter. Att den skulle ha tagit order från Nato och Washington är otroligt, eftersom ledande medlemmar förnekar det i sina dagböcker. Och några andra förstahandskällor verkar svåra att uppbringa. Allt var ju superhemligt.Sådant är förstås ett problem när man skriver historia. Men det som gör just Wennströms historieskrivning lite extra svår att svälja är nog ändå den där idén om att det skulle finnas något sådant som ”Sveriges sak”. Vilket Sverige? frågar jag mig. Det civila, eller det militära? Det offentliga, eller det hemliga? Det neutrala folkhems-Sverige eller det under-täcket-spelande Natolandet Sverige? Arbetarrörelsens eller storföretagens? Det finns något blåögt och enfaldigt i själva premissen, och kanske kan det också förklara det fantastiska faktum att Wennström och hans förlag – landets största – lyckas med konststycket att till omslaget välja just den bild ur Andrej Tarkovskijs Offret, där de berömda trapporna vid Tunnelgatan i Stockholm förvandlas till en krigszon. I denna klärvoajanta scen, inspelad 1985, flyter blod på exakt den plats där Olof Palme skulle mördas bara månader senare – men i boken finns bilden enbart för att illustrera det inbillade hot från öst som motståndsrörelsen skulle bekämpa. Det är oerhört märkligt.Det hör nämligen till saken att Stay behind-nätverket figurerar i spekulationerna om Palmemordet. Utan att ge sig alltför djupt ner i det här kaninhålet är det ändå rimligt att fråga sig vad en hemlig, paramilitär motståndsrörelse egentligen ska hålla på med när kriget, som den förberett sig för, aldrig kommer? Till vad ska den då använda alla sina resurser, all sin dyra radioutrustning, sina hemliga nätverk och internationella kontakter? Inte nödvändigtvis till att mörda landets statsminister, förstås – men som Kari Poutiainen konstaterar i sin bok Den hemliga alliansen inträffade mordet vid en tid när förtroendet mellan landets politiska och militära ledning inte var det bästa, milt uttryckt, och när Palmes engagemang i framför allt kärnvapenfrågan av Reaganadministrationen sågs som ett allvarligt hot mot USA:s och Natos intressen. Hur allvarligt? Tillräckligt allvarligt? Vi vet inte, men Poutiainen, som ihop med sin bror Pertti på nittiotalet ägnade nästan 900 sidor åt att tålmodigt mala sönder den dåvarande Palmeutredningens alla villospår och underlåtenheter i boken Inuti labyrinten, gör här en lika grundlig – 800 sidor lång – historisk genomgång av hur CIA:s och Natos hemliga påverkansoperationer, infiltrationskampanjer och direkta interventioner under kalla kriget bildar ett mönster. Från sextiotalets Indonesien, över sjuttiotalets Chile och Italien, till åttiotalets Nicaragua: inga medel var för brutala. Inga underhuggare för smutsiga. Inga allianser för oheliga.Särskilt dröjer Poutiainen vid fallet med den italienske kristdemokratiske politikern Aldo Moro, kidnappad och mördad av stadsgerillan Röda brigaderna 1978. Moro ville bjuda in kommunistpartiet till regeringsförhandlingar, en absolut röd linje för USA och Nato, och mycket i de efterforskningar som sedan gjorts tyder på att mordet var en klockren CIA-operation, att Röda brigaderna infiltrerats, troligen med folk från maffian men också medlemmar av det italienska Stay behind-nätverket, Gladio. För Poutiainen blir mordet på Olof Palme en uppenbar parallell, en skjutjärnsoperation ägnad att undanröja en besvärlig, men unik och därmed på många sätt rätt sårbar politiker som med sina försök att bygga förtroende hos den sovjetiska perestrojkans ledare såg ut att hota Natos politiska och militära sammanhållning. Vad kunde väl då ligga närmare till hands än att äntligen aktivera detta dolda nätverk av hängivna antikommunister, patrioter och vapenfetischister?Nej: Poutiainen lyckas förstås inte bevisa att det han med ett vidare begrepp beskriver som den Nato-lojala svenska ”säkerhetsstaten” faktiskt låg bakom mordet. Men bara en kik ner i kaninhålet är faktiskt ganska kuslig. Bland det som rör sig i dunklet märks en man i beige, som spårlöst avviker från brottsplatsen; en ljusskygg radiogrupp ledd av en viss ”Barbro” som med sina walkie-talkies lär ha varit ute mordkvällen, och en hemlig Säpo-operation med kodnamnet ”Così fan tutte”. Som en insider uttrycker det: ”det mesta av det svenska motståndet stod på tå” den här natten. Känslan av att veta både allt och ingenting är smått förlamande. Arkiven, i den mån de existerar, brukar ju öppnas när imperierna faller. Under kalla kriget planerade Sovjetunionen att ockupera Sverige vid ett krigsläge. Hotet gjorde att regeringen 1949 startade en hemlig organisation som skulle evakuera nyckelpersoner till Storbritannien och organisera motståndet mot ockupationsmakten om det värsta skulle hända.Den svenska motståndsrörelsen, med kodnamnet Metro, var redo att slå tillbaka om kriget kom. Högt uppsatta politiker, direktörer och fackföreningsledare samarbetade i det fördolda för att säkra Sveriges självständighet – med stöd från både kungahuset och regeringen.I detta avsnitt av podden Historia Nu Premium samtalar programledaren Urban Lindstedt med Johan Wennström, statsvetare och forskare vid Försvarshögskolan, om Sveriges hemliga motståndsrörelse under kalla kriget. Han är aktuell med boken Sveriges sak var vår där vi får en samlad och väldokumenterad bild av den hemliga svenska Stay Behind-rörelsen.Sveriges motståndsorganisation Metro – i folkmun kallad Stay Behind – organiserades i strikt hemlighet från 1949 och framåt, med uppdrag att verka i det tysta efter en eventuell sovjetisk invasion. Dåvarande statsminister Tage Erlander utfärdade i juni 1949 fyra hemliga fullmakter för att planlägga en motståndsrörelse. Fullmakterna gavs till högt uppsatta personer inom näringslivet och militären – bland dem försäkringsdirektören Alvar Lindencrona och arméchefen Carl August Ehrensvärd. Verksamheten legaliserades formellt 1955 genom ett tidigare okänt konseljbeslut.På Fleminggatan 17 i Stockholm, bakom en anonym dörr märkt ”Driftbyrån”, dolde sig under kalla kriget en av Sveriges bäst bevarade hemligheter. Här utbildades utvalda svenskar i sabotage, konspiration och överlevnad – inte för att anfalla, utan för att göra motstånd vid en framtida sovjetisk ockupation.Organisationen var strikt hierarkisk, uppbyggd enligt principen om ”vertikal kontakt” – medlemmarna kände endast till sina närmaste över- och underordnade. Under täcknamn fick de utbildning i sabotage, spaning och hantering av cyanidkapslar, ofta i isolerade bås där de inte ens såg varandra.Forskaren Johan Wennström avfärdar övertygande att den svenska motståndsrörelsen inte var en NATO-filial. Till skillnad från andra europeiska Stay Behind-nätverk var den svenska rörelsen självständig, även om det fanns vissa kontakter med väst. Organisationen förberedde flyktvägar till Norge och Storbritannien, planerade för ett exilhögkvarter i England och tränade för sabotage- och partisankrig.En unik aspekt av Metro var samarbetet över klassgränser. Både LO:s ordförande Arne Geijer och SAF:s ledare Curt-Steffan Giesecke deltog i rörelsens ledning. Samarbetet speglade den så kallade Saltsjöbadsandan – ett svenskt försvar byggt på samförstånd snarare än konflikt.Organisationen finansierades med statliga medel och bidrag från näringslivet fram till 1992, men lades aldrig formellt ned. Under 1990-talet tog general Robert Lugn över ledarskapet – därefter blir spåren allt mer otydliga. Daniel Susac (#3) is one of many well-regarded catchers in this system, and he spent time in Single-A Stockton after the draft with TJ rehabee Gunner Hoglund (#10), who was moved from Toronto in the Matt Chapman deal. High-A Lansing, the Lugnuts, saw MLB's other Max Muncy (#6), this one an infielder from the 2021 MLB draft, spend time with the club. Double-A Midland features some good pitchers who had injuries and bad numbers this season in RHPs JT Ginn (#8) and Ryan Cusick (#13), who are both spending time in the Arizona Fall League to make up some innings. Triple-A Las Vegas has yet another well-regarded catcher in Tyler Soderstrom (#1), but he played more first base this season than catching and a decision needs to be made soon about his defensive home. He took throws from SS Zack Gelof (#4), who hits to all fields but had higher than ideal strikeouts due to chasing breaking stuff and is going to the AFL to work on it.
