We have it on audio recording that this movie is NOT Pete's fault even though he picked the movie. Too bad Pete forgot to send it to Charlie in advance. Friends, this movie is bad. Even bad as compared to other bad martial art movies. It not recommended to see unless this is your kind of bad. The director, Godfrey Ho, is famous for taking the budget of one movie and then chopping it up and inserting it into several of other different movies and sending them over to the US for a quick buck. It is one of the more egregious examples as the story is incomprehensible even after several viewings. The best thing about this movie is that we covered it and had a blast doing so.    Don't watch the film and just listen to us make fun of it.

The story so far: After stumbling down a mysterious dried-up well and tunneling through the stone walls to search for an escape, the boys have been trapped in a mysterious, underground, 80s-era-inspired VHS rental shop called Moleman's Movie Hole for months. Recently dying and coming back to life has left them with concerns. After drifting through space and heading for heaven, the boys are back to life in the Movie Hole, and are visited once again by their savior Moleman! Eric, now having died 3 times, is looking to stop that from happening again. Moleman brings him a gift and the foursome sit down to watch Godfrey Ho's martial arts classic(?) Ninja Terminator (1986)! Ninjas ruled in the 1980's! James Eldred from the Cinema Oblivia podcast joins us this week to discuss two underground ninjaspoloitation classics: Miami Connection (1987), directed by YK Kim and Richard Park, and Ninja Terminator (1985), directed by Godfrey Ho. As well as marvelling in the bizarre delights of these insane films, we discuss the place of ninjas in the popular imaginations of Eastern and Western audiences, and also get an impromptu tour through the recesses of James' arcane knowledge of obscure prog rock and Japanese techno. Oh my God!!! We will be announcing a Spoiler Territory section for both films, so if you haven't seen them before you listen, you can nevertheless avoid spoilers for Miami Connection by skipping ahead to the 1:06:52 mark, and for Ninja Terminator by skipping ahead to 1:50:38. The podcast is back at full strength as Sean returns to the co-chair on this one. You would think all that time away would give us time to find new and exciting things to talk about, but thankfully we immediately fall back into our habit of talking about garbage no one has cared about for literal decades. This time around there's a long discussion about Siskel and Ebert's At the Movies and the insane opinions of these two maniacs: Pleasantville being better than Saving Private Ryan, Babe: Pig in the City also being better than Saving Private Ryan, Black Stallion being better than Raging Bull, and Siskel's completely unsurprising love of Star 80. We also discuss that one scene in A Very Brady Sequel, the Action Boyz watching Godfrey Ho movies, getting squeezed out like a toothpaste roller, The Long Kiss Goodnight, the potential end to Sean's Tubi Corner, Jim Carrey's Foghat Man character, Shawn Hatosy sliding down a prop slide, the VHS copy of Medium Cool that destroyed Brad's VCR, Annie, the positive side of Grease 2, the many scores of Tangerine Dream, AIM screen names based on the surfing movie Blue Crush, God Lives Underwater vs. Primitive Radio Gods vs. Godsmack, and of course MTV's Fear. --- Website: www.queenvenerator.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queenvenerator/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/queenvenerator.bsky.social

The Ballad of John D. Cort continues as Tread Perilously returns to Baywatch for an episode called "The Big Race." When an old folks home asks Cort to double his annual $5000 donation, he looks to sell the dive shop for extra scratch. But just as Mitch and Craig pony up $3000 to help him out, he uses the money to buy a boat and enter a water ski tournament with a $15,000 prize. Mitch and Craig become his unwilling partners -- who happen to know nothing about his real reason for needing the money -- but will they take point when Cort cracks a rib during practice? Meanwhile, Shauni is afraid to go in the water. Justin reaches a point where he can make informed judgments about Baywatch -- much to his horror. Erik tries to rework the show into a "beach cop" series with Cort as the lead. Justin tries to rework the episode into a 1980s boob comedy. He also argues for fewer characters on Baywatch. Director Kevin Inch's use of montages is criticized. Godfrey Ho enters the discussion. The logistics of the race's Catalina-and-back course are examined. Geography Corner tries to figure out where the Back to the Beach pier resides. Captain Thorpe makes a special appearance and the replacement sound-a-like music finally gets noticed.

We're kicking off the year with a few faves since our last recording, from Christmas-y musicals to two takes on the future 90s style at the absolute opposite ends of the budget and quality spectrum to, of course Godfrey Ho. We also take a surprisingly soulful detour into the question: if you could watching only 10 more movies before you die, would you choose films you'd seen before or films that were new to you? And finally, we close out with a film that would have made our best of last year had we seen it in time: GODZILLA MINUS ONE.

Santa Nudo and the Smut Peddler (aka Satan's Little Helper) are back in the studio after a long break. Lots of things has been happening while we were of air and busy with other (Cultpix things), including finances, applications and great plans for 2024!We had a second Rene Bond Theme Week and there are enough of her films to come for two more weeks. In October we had 31 Days of Halloween, which inspired us to have regular theme months where we highlight existing films and include some new ones. As part of the October Halloween theme we had a Theme Week of UK Horror and Fantasy in co-operation with our good friends at Stream Go Media. This gave us the chance to show great titles suc as Blood of the Vampire, Circus of Horrors, Devil Girl from Mars, The Gamma People, The Snake Woman and many others. Also in October we had the second week of South African exploitation films made during the Apartheid era. This is a slice of film history never screened/streamed anywhere else before. Last week of October we tried something different with a Theme Week of The Golden Age of Gay Erotica, which we thought might upset some members, but which was wel received and (more importantly) watched.  November was our Noir-vember, with classic titles (some even considered 'quality') and some titles not previously on Cultpix. Sadly the big blog post about it was wiped by the system. After that we had an interesting find, again thanks to Stream Go Media, in the form of the super-productive Hong Kong director Godfrey Ho, who gave us one-legged hopping Chinese vampires in "Robo Vampire" (1988)  in  and Cynthia Rothrock in "Honor and Glory" (1992). IN early November we paid tribute to the great Michael Weldon, by looking back of his touring Psychotronic Films festival in Stockholm and Europe at the very start of our careers. He was and remains a huge influence. The Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI) became our 50th content partner when we signed the deal with them in Lyon, giving us access to two great 1960s films.December was the Cultpix Christmas Calendar theme month, with hand-picked selections of films good enough to hang in your Christmas tree. December was also the René Cardona Jr theme week, famous for ripping of big blockbusters and for using real animals in a way that Hollywood would never dare. Last for December was a bit of a break - an intermission, if you will, with Hey Folks, It's Intermission Time! compilation films. In Januari 2024 we will have a Mike Vraney Memorial Month, to remember 10 years without him, with Lisa Petrucci curating 62 films! Also next year we will have an IRL post exhibition, a new posters coffee table book, the Wickman Week get-together, more theme months/weeks and lots more!We will also get better at doing the podcast and newspetter, we promise. So for now, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, you beautiful Cultpix freaks, geeks and c

"Der tödliche Panther" a.k.a. John Grace from Midnight Movie Cowboys returns to talk about another Hong Kong vampire film – a complete Robocop rip-off that mostly makes no sense as it was a couple of films mashed together called Robo Vampire from 1988!!. John and I try to make sense of this train wreck of a film and while it's nowhere near as good as any of the films that we've covered so far and might make you demand your 90 minutes back, it's somehow fun...I think? New episode alert! Gavin and I are BACK! This time around, we talk about the epic, double Kung Fu screening we attended last week at the New Beverly Cinema! We got a double dose of hardcore, Japanese inspired, Hong Kong cinema. First up was the ‘Seven Samurai' remake, aptly titled ‘Seven Warriors', directed by Terry Tong & Sammo Hung (allegedly), featuring an ensemble cast including: Adam Cheng, Tony Leung, Max Mok, Jackie Cheung, Benny Lam, Lo Lieh and many more! Second up, was the ‘Shogun's Samurai' inspired, Frankie Chan directed, gangster epic ‘Burning Ambition'. Listen in as we breakdown these two amazing features, including the sweeping, heroic nature of ‘Seven Warriors' and the balls to the wall madness of ‘Burning Ambition'. We also discuss training with our Sensei Peter ‘Sugarfoot' Cunningham, the disastrous consequences of a Godfrey Ho edit, and Gavin's amazing Spanish skills! Don't forget to subscribe, like, download and share with your friends! Thanks again for your continued support and we hope you enjoy!

This week we got Ho'd and accidentally watched another Godfrey Ho film. You know…the guy who makes one movie out of several movies and did that like a 100 times and occasionally made money? Yeah... He rules in the worst way imaginable. Bouncing vampires with a paper allergy,, antenna'd cyborgs sinking to hell on a beach, and a near topless witch with a magical roll of toilet paper and a mild interest in beastiality. This movie has it all…so much so that you think it might be 2 movies in one. This week we're covering a martial arts movie that wasn't picked up by the American or Hong Kong film market. This can mean only one thing, it's Chris' pick. And this one stars Loren Avedon and Cynthia Rothrock, and is directed by Godfrey Ho. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary: After six years as a guest of the state, mob hit man Jason Reed wants nothing more than to get an honest job and spend time with his young son, Tommy. He is not ten steps outside of the prison before being greeted by Keither, an old crony anxious to pick up where they left off. While out for a drive with his son, Jason saves a young woman from a gun-wielding thug, not realizing that he has just managed to ruin Keith's plans to recover some stolen heroin. While fending off various retaliatory attacks from his old buddies, Jason must also deal with his ex-wife, a reformed drug addict who has returned from out of nowhere intent on reuniting with Tommy. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thevhsstrikesback/support

This week, it's time for Cynthia Rothrock to join the BMC Action Hero Hall of Fame as hosts Dominic Lawton & Ken B Wild deep dive the 1993 film - UNDEFEATABLE. The boys discuss Cynthia's background in martial arts, the legendary director of the film Godfrey Ho and his many aliases and how much the bad guy looks like Jerry Seinfeld! Meanwhile, Dom takes us through the connections between Godfrey Ho's many film titles whilst Ken tells us of a certain Cynthia Rothrock poster he's fond of! The film pitch this week sees the BMC giving us a female led martial arts thriller. After her sister is murdered by a foul rapist serial killing vampire, straight-laced detective Gina Carano is forced to team up with hard-drinking-motorbike-driving-maverick Ronda Rousey in order to bring him to justice. Will she play it by the book or will Ronda's preference for violence lead her down a darker path to revenge? Gina Carano and Ronda Rousey are UNPENETRABLE! Cast includes Adam Scott, Rob Riggle, Marilyn Manson and Carl Weathers as Police Chief Carl Weathers!
