In episode #268, we're joined by Ben Barr, who is entering his 4th season as the Head Coach of the University of Maine Black Bears. Maine hockey was a wagon through 90's capturing two National Championships under the legendary Shawn Walsh, and would remain in contention up until 2007 under Tim Whitehead. But since then, the program had made only one tournament appearance, in 2012, until last spring when they were again recognized in the National rankings and returned to the big dance under Barr's leadership. Listen as he shares how he's helped revive the Black Bears program, dealing with the challenge of a losing season, and why it's important to find the value in players other than goals and assists.

In a landmark event, engineers at the University of Maine are testing floating offshore wind infrastructure to optimize the use of wind power over water bodies. In a bid to come up with sustainable power solutions, academics and engineers are devising mechanisms to harness the untapped potential of wind energy over sea and ocean. This promising approach could lead to a significant advancement in power generation and could be a major breakthrough in the renewable energy sector.Wind energy remains an under-explored domain with preliminary research often limiting its applicability to land-based use. However, the development and testing of floating offshore wind infrastructure mark a massive shift in this perspective. Advancements like this could drive an energy revolution, paving the way for increased utilization of renewable wind energy in coastal areas, and possibly reducing the dependence on traditional sources of energy.Parallelly, in a completely different sphere, a New York grand jury is hearing evidence in the investigation involving Sean Combs. Soil Testing. Over the years, Natalie has gotten a lot of this kind of question: why are my results from THIS lab different from my results from THAT lab? And WHY are the recommendations DIFFERENT? For this episode, she spoke with Bruce Hoskins who runs the Soil and Plant Anaylitcal Lab at The University of Maine. It's impossible to cover everything you want or need to know about soil testing in an hour, but they lay the groundwork for what exactly happens to a soil sample when you send it into a lab for basic nutrient analysis. Hi everyone, it's Natalie. It's hard to believe this is my sixth episode for The No-Till Market Garden Podcast. It felt super intimidating to commit to finding and interviewing ten people, but it turns out to have been a lot of fun to talk with people I've admired from a distance and also some of my friends. For this episode, I talked with my friend and colleague, Sonja Birthisel. She is a weed ecologist and agroecologist by training, but her interests and expertise are wide and varied. We get into some of her research on the effects of tarping and solarizing on soil biology, important traits of weeds, seed predation, and her work in the community. Mentioned in the show...
