About 80% of dentists are undervaluing what their practice is worth! A shocking number, don't you think? The fact is, several dentists wait until they slow down to sell without realizing that their practice value is highest when they're at their peak.  To share everything you need to know to get the most bang out of your buck when selling is this episode's guest, Michelle Hedgecock.  Michelle is a clinical researcher and a former dental surgeon, and owned two thriving practices in Austin, Texas. After having to sell at 42, she realized how ill-prepared doctors are when it comes to selling and determining the fair market value of their business. This experience ultimately drove her to become a business development associate with Connect The Dents, where she performs practice valuations and guides doctors in determining the best options and timings for selling their business. How practice valuations can help you plan for the future, tips on increasing the fair market value of your practice, what EBITDA is, and when doctors should consider selling for max profit are some main themes of this conversation.  Michelle and I also touch on the different types of buyers, including individual doctors, DSO's, and DPO's, and what types of practices are ideal for each. Tune in to learn more about how Michelle and the unique valuation process and matching program at Connect The Dents can save you 6-10% in selling costs.  PS. On this episode, Keith & Geoff welcome Marvin Etzioni into Thunderlove Studio - he is also known as the Mandolin Man. Etzioni is best known as a founder and bassist for the band Lone Justice. He is also a noted songwriter, composer, and record producer. He has released three solo albums in addition to performing with loads of artists. In 1982, Etzioni met Ryan Hedgecock, who shared his love for country and roots music. Hedgecock was already performing with Maria McKee. Hedgecock and McKee asked Etzioni to back them on bass duties, along with drummer Don Heffington and the band Lone Justice was launched. Etzioni was a member of Lone Justice from 1983 to 1986, during which he encouraged them to write original material, and contributed the songs "East of Eden," "Working Late," "You Are the Light," and "Soap, Soup and Salvation" (written with McKee). Marvin has produced for numerous artists, including Peter Case, Counting Crows, and Toad the Wet Sprocket. Etzioni's compositions have been covered by Cheap Trick, Victoria Williams, Julie Miller and Judy Collins. Etzioni produced and wrote songs with the Williams Brothers (Andy Williams' nephews Andrew and David).  Together with David Williams, Etzioni co-wrote "Can't Cry Hard Enough" which became his most successful song. In the 1990s, Etzioni recorded and released three albums: The Mandolin Man (1991), Bone (1992) and Weapons of the Spirit (1994).Etzioni employs the analog-vinyl-digital (AVD) technique, in which his master tapes are converted first to vinyl, and the vinyl is recorded to digital for the final product. In 2012, Etzioni released the 2-disc album Marvin Country on Nine Mile Records. On the album, which had been in development since 1985, Etzioni played mandolin, mandocello, guitar, bass, piano, Mellotron, porchboard and keyboards. Included are duets with Lucinda Williams ("Lay It on the Table"),Steve Earle ("Ain't No Work in Mississippi"), Richard Thompson ("It Don't Cost Much"), Buddy Miller ("Living Like a Hobo"), John Doe ("The Grapes of Wrath"), Maria McKee ("You Possess Me"), and the Dixie Hummingbirds ("You Are the Light"). Guest:  Rebecca “Becca” Stoddard is a pediatric occupational therapist and owner of Breakthrough Therapy based in Phoenix, AZ. Becca is enthusiastic about working with children and their families to help them achieve their gross motor milestones. Becca has completed 2 courses on Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI). She plans to complete a 3rd course at the beginning of the year. With experience in visor therapy settings, Becca uses both intensive DMI therapy and ongoing weekly DMI therapy at her practice. She also offers a free gross motor skills screening that can be done virtually, in person, and at home.  Interview: What is Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI)? DMI is a specialized, hands-on technique focusing on head control, trunk control, and achieving gross motor milestones. Some of those milestones are rolling, sitting, balancing, crawling, standing, and walking. DMI exercises look different from the traditional therapy approach. Some exercises use gravity and a lot of sensory input to get automatic responses from the child to help them reach milestones. There is also a unique box set that is used as the child gets older and progresses. One of the main parts of DMI is an emphasis on neuroplasticity. That's a fancy term for creating new connections in the brain. The key factor in achieving this is repetition to create those new pathways.  How do I know if my child would be a good fit for DMI therapy? When a child exhibits gross motor delays, it can be things like the inability to hold their head up, not being able to roll, and the inability to maintain balance while sitting up. In a study, gross motor delays can occur in up to 68% of children with autism. Children with autism are more at risk of delayed gross motor skills.  What are some red flag diagnoses that might be indicated for gross motor delay?  There is a wide range of diagnoses that can include gross motor delay. Some of the main ones are cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, gross motor delays, and development delays. Every child is different and can be a possible candidate that can benefit from DMI therapy.  What is an example of what DMI therapy may look like for a child?  One example could be putting a child in an inverted upside-down position to work on core strength. The brain will automatically want to be upright when in an inverted position. Putting a baby in that position will force the body to create the desired response to be upright. Another example would be an exercise focusing on walking and stepping up on a surface. The thigh would be supported as the child tries to step up onto a box. DMI support goes from proximal to distal. As the therapy progresses, the support will go from the hips to the thigh to the ankles.  What can a parent do at home to help their child strengthen and build gross motor skills?  Parents can take their children to the playground and practice going up steps without holding onto the railing. With a baby sitting on the lap, lean him/her backward, and give the baby a chance to try and sit up to build belly muscles that work out core strength. When laying down, aid the baby with holding him/herself up with his/her arms and exercises on the knees. A website Becca refers her clients to is pathways.org as a reference to what to expect maybe their child to be doing at certain ages.  Recap:  - Work on core strength - Encourage play in various positions - Physical play with toddlers and slightly older children    Resources: www.DMItherapy.com Pathways.org | Tools to maximize child development www.breakthrough-therapy.com Instagram: @breakthrough_therapy_dmi Article Reference Research reference: Hedgecock, J. Boston-born composer Sid Richardson releases Borne by a Wind. In this debut portrait album, Richardson explores the point of intersection between music and literature in gritty and original ways, opening with Red Wind (2017), a collaboration with African-American experimentalist poet and National Book Award-winner Nathaniel Mackey that features Mackey as the narrator in excerpts from his poetry collection Blue Fasa alongside the Deviant Septet. Earlier works on the album include There is no sleep so deep (2016), written for and performed by pianist Conrad Tao; LUNE (2015), written for and performed by violinist Lilit Hartunian; and Astrolabe (2014), recorded by the Da Capo Chamber Players. Elvida is a melodrama or opera in one act by Gaetano Donizetti. Giovanni Schmidt wrote the Italian libretto. The opera was written as a pièce d'occasion for the birthday of Queen Maria of the Two Sicilies. The choice of subject matter was no doubt intended as an elegant acknowledgment of the Queen's Spanish ancestry. Donizetti received a little financial reward for the work and, as a result, put the minimum of effort into its composition. Elvida was first performed on 6 July 1826 at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, but it "made little impression on the audience". This opera was not performed again until 2004. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13 in B-flat minor (Op. 113), subtitled Babi Yar, was completed on July 20, 1962, and first performed in Moscow in December of that year. The hour-long work requires a bass soloist, men's chorus, and large orchestra and is laid out in five movements, each a setting of a Yevgeny Yevtushenko poem. This unusual form gives rise to various descriptions: choral symphony, song cycle, giant cantata. The five earthily vernacular poems denounce Soviet life one aspect at a time: brutality, cynicism, deprivation, anxiety, corruption. Kirill Kondrashin conducted the 1962 premiere after Yevgeny Mravinsky had declined the assignment under pressure; Vitaly Gromadsky sang the solo part alongside the combined choruses of the RSFSR State Academy and Gnessin Institute and the Moscow Philharmonic. They had a charismatic lead singer with Maria McKee, a big time producer in Jimmy Iovine, the backing of a major label and contributions from Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Little Steven, and many more. The problem is none of these people knew what to do with their hybrid of classic country and punk leaving Lone Justice to fall as soon as they rose.  Founder Ryan Hedgecock tells his story passionately and compellingly and you really come away with a unique view of the rock machinery.
