Peter Brock is an American automotive design and motorsports legend. At age 19, while attending Art Center School, Brock became the youngest designer ever hired by General Motors' design department. In November 1957, legendary GM stylist, Bill Mitchell, selected one of Brock's sketches to become the iconic 1963 Corvette Stingray. After securing his SCCA racing license at 21 years old, he acquired an ex-Le Mans Cooper and returned to California to pursue a career in racing. He landed at the famed Max Balchowsky's Hollywood shop. His next move would be as Carroll Shelby's first employee, running the newly-formed Shelby School of High-Performance Driving. Soon he was working for Shelby American, where he penned logos, merchandise, ads, and car liveries. He designed the Shelby components of the Shelby Mustang GT350s, and his renowned Shelby Daytona Cobra coupe won the FIA GT World Championship. Following his success at Shelby, he founded Brock Racing Enterprises. Brock put the previously-unknown Japanese car maker, Datsun, on the map. The BRE prepared Datsun's dominated SCCA racing, winning on Sunday --and selling on Monday. In 1967, he ventured to Baja with Mary McGee to race in the first Mexican 1000. The experience led to an obsession with off-road racing, and the desolate peninsula. Brock returned to lead the Datsun factory race team for the next three years. Since those early days, he's repeatedly covered the Baja 1000 as a journalist. In 2010, the Art Center College of Design awarded Brock their Lifetime Achievement Award for "Outstanding accomplishment in the fields of automotive design, technology, innovation, motorsports, and journalism." He was inducted into the Sports Car Club of America Hall of Fame in 2017. Follow Peter Brock on Facebook here. Learn more about Peter Brock and BRE here.
Benjamin discusses his go around in the 2022 Hyundai Kona N-Line, a crossover that strives to be the median point beween the standard Kona and the speedy Kona N. Hyundai is trying to follow the path of the German M Sports and AMG Lines, but is the Kona N-Line a successful push in the right direction? Is this just a style and attitude package, a weak echo of the Pontiac Trans Am Firehawk? Sami then chimes in with his recent experience in two compact hatchbacks. A dying breed, the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback and the Canada-only 2022 Kia Forte5 GT are both available with manual transmissions. Sami seems to think the hatchback styling of these cars stray too close to the sedan variants, and that cars like these are slowly losing their relevance to crossovers. Finally, the duo discuss high-performanc driving techniques and how they apply to driving in the snow. Listen now to get the whole scoop, and don't forget to subscribe and review.
We had been planning to have Eric on the podcast for several months but couldn't wait any more after he went to his first wheel to wheel event a few weeks ago at PittRace. We first heard of Eric as a result of his two Facebook groups related to high performance driving and high performance driving fitness. He was joined on this episode by his teammate Fred. They are forming a new racing team to help satisfy their recently acquired wheel to wheel racing itch. On this episode’s Dominating with Dawson, Ben gets subjected to the term “Lift Off Oversteer”. Ben has not experienced it to this point, as far as he can tell. We end up discussing what it might be and how it is a result of weight transfer. We also go into how weight transfer can be used to help and to hurt you on a track. Regardless of whether this is a Bigfoot sighting or a real phenomenon, we take a bit of time to discuss the topic and its potential effects. You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc. Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating or even better, a podcast review, we would greatly appreciate it and it would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving. For instance, leaving an Apple Podcast rating is very easy. If you go to your podcast library, under shows and click on the podcast you can leave a (5?) star rating and enter your review. The ISDA Secure Transportation and Executive Protection News Podcast for Tuesday, October 9th, 2018 ====================== In Driving News From AutoWeek Your car is not necessarily listening to you, but it's definitely paying attention Did you ever have the feeling you were being watched? Or at least listened to? If you drive a modern General Motors vehicle, you may be correct (as long as you opted in). According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, GM recently conducted a three-month study of customers' radio listening habits using vehicles equipped with an in-car Wi-Fi system. The goal? To ascertain if there is a relationship between what drivers listen to and what they buy. Why? To increase the effectiveness of targeted radio advertising, of course. The study, implemented last year, observed the behavior of 90,000 Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC drivers who agreed to participate in the Los Angeles and Chicago metro areas. https://autoweek.com/article/technology/your-cars-radio-may-be-listening-you ========================= In Cyber Security News From CNET Google shutting down Google+ after exposing data of up to 500,000 users But the search giant didn't disclose the vulnerability because it reportedly feared regulatory scrutiny. Specializing in the ‘business of dentistry', his unique, in-depth knowledge of the components of a successful practice has helped thousands of dental offices thrive in today's challenging business environment. Gary's seminars, highly acclaimed audio and videotape programs, and his in-office consulting services have helped many dentists develop a more profitable and enjoyable practice. A familiar presence on the dental lecture circuit, Gary frequently addresses dentists and team members at national dental meetings, regional seminars, and study club meetings here in the United States and internationally as well. His seminars are designed for the doctor and the entire dental team and are recognized for being both highly educational and entertaining. Attendees often comment that they learned more than they ever imagined and that Gary's seminar was the most fun they have ever had at a dental meeting!! Although Gary is not a dentist, he owns a dental practice in partnership with Dr. Paul Nielson. His practice is called LifeSmiles Dental Care and this practice serves as a learning and teaching laboratory for Gary to ‘test' concepts that he can apply in his teaching. In addition to maintaining an active speaking schedule, Gary has published over 350 articles on practice management topics in professional publications. His articles have been published in leading journals including Dentistry Today, AGD Impact, Dental Management, Dental Business Today, Dental Update, Dental Economics, Dental Practice & Finance and many state journals. Gary is also the founder of Ride & Learn, and Race & Learn, perhaps the most unique continuing education programs in dentistry today. Ride and Learn combines Gary's interests in continuing education and Harley Davidson motorcycles. A number of times each year Gary leads a small group of dentists on Harley Davidson motorcycle tours through some of the most scenic parts of the country. Each evening the group convenes for an evening of stimulating CE in the lodge. The Race and Learn courses are held at the world-famous Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona and combine dental courses with high performance driving. A summa cum laude alumnus of the University of Oregon, Gary lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife and four children.
