FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem says he doesn't see the point of the cost cap in Formula 1, as he believes it only gives himself and the governing body a headache.
Carlos Sainz Senior is seriously considering running for president at the FIA, Motorsport.com report, as many people within the organisation are urging him to take on current president Mohammed Ben Sulayem in this year's election.

There's also discussion on the upcoming V10 power-unit summit with the sport's manufacturers, and some further context from Yuki Tsunoda as to why he struggled at last week's Japanese GP, and why there are fears that last week's win may have been flattering for Red Bull.

Rumours are rife that South Africa's iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit could be gearing up to host Formula 1 racing again. (Kyalami hosted its first race in 1961 before it fell off the Formula 1 calendar in 1993, and Africa has not been a host to another race since then. South Africa's Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, met with Formula 1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, as well as FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in September 2024. In late October, McKenzie took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that "F1 is coming home soon". Bringing the beloved sport back to African soil would be no small feat. The event would require considerable effort and co-ordination. So, what will be required to reach FIA Grade 1 accreditation? Lize Mari Doubell, Associate at Webber Wentzel weighs in now.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is not against the introduction of full-time stewards, as long as the drivers pay for them. Currently, there is a rotating roster OF stewards, who are all volunteers. Drivers have called for this to be professionalised, but Ben Sulayem says it's the drivers, not the FIA, who should go out of pocket.
Did Max Verstappen overreact by blaming George Russell for his Qatar penalty? Is Lewis Hamilton hinting at an F1 exit, and should Ferrari worry? Should FIA boss Mohammed Ben Sulayem watch his words after drivers' frustration? This week, DC and EJ review the Qatar Grand Prix, where tensions ran high both on and off the track, with sparks flying most notably between Max Verstappen and George Russell. Meanwhile, McLaren's hopes for the Constructors' title took a hit as Lando Norris received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty, leaving Ferrari 21 points behind with just one race remaining. Plus, they share their excitement over Alpine's decision to give Jack Doohan - son of their close friend Mick Doohan - his debut at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.----Red Eye Events and Formula For Success are once again teaming up to host an exclusive LIVE recording of the show at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix! In this episode, we talk about the issues fans have with the FIA and F1 in light of the Susie Wolff and Mohammed Ben Sulayem news. We also talk about the Australian GP and Williams' decision to ground Logan Sergeant this weekend in favor of Alex Albon. If Formula 1 is the “pinnacle of motorsport” then how is it acceptable for teams to be so unprepared by not having critical components such as spare chassis? Perhaps, instead of pushing the issues with the spending cap, the series focus its attention on mandating a spending floor. Mohammed Ben Sulayem was jealous of the attention Christian Horner was getting with his scandal. So MBS decided to a scandal or three, for that matter, of his. Yes, it's the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but we expect MBS and the ongoing Red Bull Racing power struggles to take centre stage. Will the Red Bull Racing team agree to internal compromises OR will they implode and fall apart? Let's hope the end to their dominance isn't as rubbish as it seems from the outside. In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Soumil Arora and Kunal Shah dissect the MBS and Red Bull-gate - what exactly is happening, and why? Also, we talk about the teams/drivers that need to do well in Qualifying and in the Race. Yes, 2024 is a 24 race long calendar but it is the early season performances that will give drivers without a contract from next year much leverage. The track itself is gorgeous under the lights, fast...and dizzy-inducing? The teams will bring low downforce configurations and that should change the pecking order in the race. In fact, after Bahrain, one hopes that the chasing pack behind Red Bull is able to chase without many errors. Tune in!
