The Inner workings of your own constant monologue. The importance of innovation and flexibility in times like 2020 and beyond. In this episode Hugh outlines an alternative perspective to the invasion of Ukraine. How potentially, others around the world might be viewing the situation and how they can justify it. We dive into Europe and the United States crude oil production and consumption and how that relates to what is happening in Russia. Why because of the issuance of debt, certain countries like Russia and China might not have the same mindset as the west regarding how to settle this issue. Then Hugh highlights some of his beliefs on why certain freedoms were not only created, but still need to be kept today, especially considering the largest land war in Europe has just started since World War 2. Welcome to my podcast: 'John Scott Lawton's English, you know'. In this rather different episode, I'm interviewed by one of my advanced level students, Mária from Slovakia, about my teaching career and my experiences of living and working in many different countries. The episode is intended to provide live material for students who want to improve their listening skills by hearing natural dialogues in English; albeit in a question and answer format in an interview situation. Here, the tables are turned with the student asking the questions of a teacher to elicit honest and considered responses. I had no idea what questions Mária was going to ask me, so the responses are not prepared or scripted and I give natural, 'off-the-cuff' answers which hopefully will enable listeners to find out something more about my motivations in wanting to teach English, my love of travelling and my opinion on what can be gained from living and working away from your home country. As a potential trigger issue, we talk about what can be done when you find yourself in a toxic working environment, something which is sadly all too common these days. I'm joined today with Betty Kovacs who has her PHD in Comparative Literature and Theory of Symbolic/Mythic Language. Betty is an amazing woman who I really enjoyed having on as a guest. Her expertise in symbolic and mythic language, as it relates to the discussion we have in this episode, is about the stories and ancient writings and myths we grew up hearing about. In this episode we talk about how these stories we're all familiar with were initially constructed, told, and passed on for our development and growth as people and a society. There is a noticeable gap between the rational mind and the minds of ancient, symbolic language and stories. However, while they go about communicating messages in different ways, the messages are quite similar, if not the same. With today's evolution and comprehension of science, Betty explains how there is a bridge between the two ways of communicating as history's stories and today's science are coming to a point. It helps to understand all of this before you listen because we will be fundamentally orienting our conversation around the understanding of these ancient stories and how they are comprehended today. We discuss our origins in this episode and Betty begins to explain how the common stories of early earth and humanity have potentially been miscommunicated. We also talk about how we all can grow from not only understanding these potential miscommunications, but also from the original intent of these stories themselves by understanding symbolic and mythic language/storytelling if you will.We discuss things like the difficulties of American politics, Hebrew texts and Origins, ancient shamanistic practices, a little about Jesus and who the Essenes were, sacred plants and consciousness and where all this takes us as science starts to better describe all of what we previously were taught about other dimensions and conscious realities.Links:Website - The Kamlak Center - Awakening to the Divine GameBook - Merchants of Light: The Consciousness That Is Changing the WorldBook - The Miracle of Death: There Is Nothing But LifeMore about Betty:Betty J. In this episode, Kim Carroll discusses three lighting options: ambient, task, and accent lighting. She discusses the the many different fixtures available to us, as well as a few “Lighting Atrocities” that can make our lives really uncomfortable. The human eye has evolved in natural daylight since the humans first lived on earth. We are finely tuned to the ways that it comes into our homes, from a bright summer afternoon to the soft grey of a winter morning. But we all need artificial light to make our way through a dark house, prepare supper, read a book, write a report, or find a lost toy. Well-placed lighting can set a mood and focus our attention, but how do we plan for good lighting? Ambient lighting, such as a ceiling fixture, illuminates an overall space, while task lighting, like pendants over a kitchen island, focuses the light where we need it. Accent lighting can call attention to the fixture itself, such as a Tiffany lamp, or pull someone's attention to a focal point, like a light over a painting. #interiordesign #interiordesigners #clevelandinteriordesign #interiorlighting

Sometimes on Friday evenings, I say to myself, “To Hell with this jazz, “ and I drift over to Al-Cazar, where I drink too much Scotch, talk very loudly, and slap the sumptuous behind of the belly-dancer. Afterwards I get the eye From the pimp with a crooked smile. Al-Cazar is a nice place To visit on a Friday, But no place to live. The next morning, Cursing a small hangover, I am at work again In the confines of my study. I pause from my pursuits, And wait for the children To return from school, The quiet cocktails before dinner, And the pleasant talk afterwards. This is no place to visit, But it's a nice place to live.
