Is America a nation Chosen by God? A New Jerusalem and Shining City on a Hill? What is the shape of Christian Nationalism today? Now 4 years past Jan 6, 2021 and anticipating the next term of presidential office, Yale professors Eliyahu Stern and Philip Gorski join Evan Rosa for a conversation about religion, politics, and the shape of Christian nationalism now.Together they discuss what religion really means in sociological and historical terms; the difference between religions of power and religions of law or morality; the American syncretism of pagan Christianity (perhaps captured in the Qnon Shaman with the horns and facepaint); the connection between nationalism and the desire to be a Chosen People; the supersessionism at the root of seeing the Christian conquest of America as a New Jerusalem; and how ordinary citizens come to adopt the tenets of Christian Nationalism.Eliyahu Stern is Professor of Modern Jewish Intellectual and Cultural History in the Departments of Religious Studies and History and his current project is entitled No Where Left to Go: Jews and the Global Right from 1977 to October 7.Philip Gorski is Frederick and Laura Goff Professor of Sociology at Yale University and is author of The Flag and the Cross: White Christian Nationalism and the Threat to American Democracy (with Samuel Perry) as well as American Covenant: A History of Civil Religion from the Puritans to the Present.Special thanks to our production assistant Zoë Halaban for pitching this conversation.About Eliyahu SternEliyahu Stern is Professor of Modern Jewish Intellectual and Cultural History in the Departments of Religious Studies and History. This podcast is an eye-opening, provocative conversation about universal consciousness. We discuss the global shift that is taking place from negating the spiritual, mystical side of life to a spiritual renaissance. Our guest is Betty Kovacs, the author of the Merchants of Light: The Consciousness that is Changing the World and The Miracle of Death: There is Nothing but Life. We discuss the friction between western science that has focused on a materialistic view of life and the shamanic, larger view of reality that we are all connected, immortal, and divine. Dr. Kovacs incorporates the findings from quantum physics that supports this universal consciousness. And introduces us to the findings that consciousness remains after matter is gone. We also touch on the views of birth and death being two different sides of the same state. Can ease the experience of loss at the time of death? Join us for this one-of-a-kind conversation. In the first of a 2 part podcast, Professor Ana Laura López de la Torre discusses the history and democratic structures of the Universidad de la República, Uruguay with Sophie Hope. Ana Laura López de la Torre is a Professor in the Facultad de Artes, Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay and for 2022-23 is an Honorary Research Fellow with the School of Arts, Birkbeck. She has an established participatory arts and research practice established between 2000 and 2012 when she lived and worked in London, with major commissions from the ICA, Whitechapel Gallery, Gasworks, Tate Modern and South London Gallery, La Casa Encendida (Spain), de kunstbank (Belgium) and Demokratische Kunstwochen (Switzerland). She also worked as Associate Lecturer at the University of the Arts, London. Since moving back to Uruguay in 2012 she has been the Director of the Centro Cultural Florencio Sánchez, a public cultural centre in Cerro, a historical neighbourhood in the periphery of Montevideo. She continued to develop her participatory arts practice in the region, developing projects related to community-based organisation, cultural democracy and environmental struggles in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. From 2012 to 2015 she was the Coordinator of the first Uruguayan postgraduate course in Cultural Management, at the Espacio Interdisciplinario of the Universidad de la República, where she still teaches and is part of its Academic Advisory Board. In her current post at the Universidad de la República, she leads a department specialised in community-based art, and within this department she is Coordinator of two interdisciplinary research groups: Naturaleza, Sociedad y Arte (exploring human / more-than-human relationship in urban communities) and ACTO (Art, Organised Communities and Territories). The Universidad de la República is the public university of Uruguay. Founded in 1849, it enrols over 150 thousand students annually. It offers free tuition at undergraduate and postgraduate level in all disciplines and fields of knowledge. With its main infrastructure in Montevideo, over the last 30 years the university has embarked in a decentralisation process, creating 10 university campuses in different cities. Although fully funded by the state, the autonomy of the university's governance was enshrined in a national law in 1958 following 20 years of organised action by students. The governing bodies of all the Faculties and Institutes (and its central authorities) are democratically elected, with representation of teachers, students and graduate bodies, all academic, political and managerial decisions are taken by these bodies. Voting is compulsory and takes place every 4 years. The term ‘university democracy' encompasses this form of self-governance, which over the decades has produced the ethical guides that rule academic life.

Who we are is how we lead. It's not just about what we do in the world when it comes to leadership; it's also about who we are. Take a minute to consider whether it is possible to divorce one's identity from the roles we play. I don't believe so.You need to have a solid understanding of who you are as a person and how to use that knowledge to your advantage as a leader. You may assess your leadership strengths and weaknesses using this knowledge to become a more effective leader. Then, you can work to improve your weaknesses while enhancing your strengths.A sought-after keynote speaker, facilitator, coach and author, Alain Hunkins helps leaders achieve performance goals, more easier. His work connects the science of high performance with the performing art of leadership. Leaders trust him to help unlock their potential and expand their influence, leading to superior results, increased engagement, higher levels of retention, and greater organizational and personal satisfaction. He has a gift for translating complex concepts from psychology, neuroscience and organizational behavior into simple, practical tools that can be applied on the job. With his Master's in Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Professional Theater Training Program, and a BA from Amherst College, Alain is on the faculty of Duke Corporate Education, ranked #2 worldwide in 2019 by Financial Times on its list of customized Executive Education programs. I'm joined today with Betty Kovacs who has her PHD in Comparative Literature and Theory of Symbolic/Mythic Language. Betty is an amazing woman who I really enjoyed having on as a guest. Her expertise in symbolic and mythic language, as it relates to the discussion we have in this episode, is about the stories and ancient writings and myths we grew up hearing about. In this episode we talk about how these stories we're all familiar with were initially constructed, told, and passed on for our development and growth as people and a society. There is a noticeable gap between the rational mind and the minds of ancient, symbolic language and stories. However, while they go about communicating messages in different ways, the messages are quite similar, if not the same. With today's evolution and comprehension of science, Betty explains how there is a bridge between the two ways of communicating as history's stories and today's science are coming to a point. It helps to understand all of this before you listen because we will be fundamentally orienting our conversation around the understanding of these ancient stories and how they are comprehended today. We discuss our origins in this episode and Betty begins to explain how the common stories of early earth and humanity have potentially been miscommunicated. We also talk about how we all can grow from not only understanding these potential miscommunications, but also from the original intent of these stories themselves by understanding symbolic and mythic language/storytelling if you will.We discuss things like the difficulties of American politics, Hebrew texts and Origins, ancient shamanistic practices, a little about Jesus and who the Essenes were, sacred plants and consciousness and where all this takes us as science starts to better describe all of what we previously were taught about other dimensions and conscious realities.Links:Website - The Kamlak Center - Awakening to the Divine GameBook - Merchants of Light: The Consciousness That Is Changing the WorldBook - The Miracle of Death: There Is Nothing But LifeMore about Betty:Betty J. In the final episode of Series Three, Joe speaks with Essex University historian Lucy Noakes and Chicago-based artist Michael Rakowitz on the creation of cultural memories around war and conflict. They cover a wide array of topics, including the Churchillian turn of British World War II narratives and how the words monument and demonstrate are linked by their roots in Latin. Their discussion beautifully encapsulates a number of topics covered across the series and explores more radical ways of remembering - or remembering better. Lucy Noakes is a social and cultural historian with specific interests in war, memory and gender. She is co-editor of the book British Cultural Memory and the Second World War, sits on the Academic Advisory Board of the Imperial War Museum's Second World War Galleries redevelopment project, and is a series editor for the Social History Society book series New Directions in Social and Cultural History. Michael Rakowitz is an Iraqi-American artist working at the intersection of problem-solving and troublemaking. His anti-war statue April is the Cruellest Month formed part of the Turney Contemporary for the English coast series in 2021. Michael is also Professor of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University. As always, the show was presented by our very own Joe Glenton. In this scintillating conversation, Dr. Kovacs and I discuss the nature of consciousness and who we are as human beings. We talk about the deep truths behind ancient myths. Dr. Kovacs has been exploring the nature of consciousness her whole life. This was greatly accelerated when, within a three-year period, her mother, her son, and then her husband were killed in three separate automobile accidents. While she had studied shamanism before her son's accident, she and her husband actually experienced their son's consciousness after his death for an extended period of time. While she had studied shamanism before her son's accident, she and her husband actually experienced their son's consciousness after his death for an extended period of time. These experiences completely changed their lives. Her first book, The Miracle of Death, is about these altered states of consciousness. After her retirement, she began an intensified period of research into our ancestors' experience of a vaster consciousness, Cosmic/Christ Consciousness, which she relates in her new book, Merchants of Light. ****************************************************************** To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv *** AND NOW *** The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.com The ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewpaper.com

Ever feel like you're living in one square inch of reality and calling it reality? Well, the fascinating Dr. Betty Kovacs has. I had the great privilege to talk her about life, death, religion, and everything in between on all dimensions of reality. Ever since she was child, learning about the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Dr. Kovacs started asking the big question of "WHY?" Her normal has always been trying to find ways to break out of the norm, step outside of it, and find something beyond that, because that is the nature of all of our creativity. We get into her studies of symbolic and mythic languages, how religion has influenced our way of life, how the pandemic is an example of the decay and destruction of the heart consciousness in western culture, quantum physics, essentially trying to answer the big questions of life and human existence, and so much more. We also dig into the amazing connections between the deaths of three people closest to Dr. Kovacs: her mother, husband, and son. Dr. Kovacs earned her doctorate from the University of California, Irvine, in Comparative Literature and Theory of Symbolic/Mythic Language. She taught Literature, Writing, and Symbolic/Mythic Language for twenty-five years. In this episode, I speak with Dr. Betty Kovacs, author of Merchants of Light, about how the ancient civilizations had higher interconnectivity with cosmic consciousness through their shaman-mystic traditions.Today this consciousness is surfacing once again all around the world. It is rising out of the dreaming, symbolic, visionary mind that is sensitive to deeper orders of reality and in tune with the creative principles of both the human psyche and the universe. This mode of consciousness can heal the wounds of our current worldview by igniting these creative principles within modern, rational consciousness. Here’s what you can expect from the episode;- What is Merchants of Light?- What are the misunderstandings of our view of ancient civilizations?- How the ancient people were using sacred plants and other techniques to reach altered state of consciousness- How the Duerteronomists reversed the course of our spiritual and religious construct- What she thinks the ancient civilizations will say about our modern societyShe received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, in Comparative Literature and Theory of Symbolic/Mythic Language. Episode 41 Was religion hijacked? My very special guest on the podcast today is Betty Kovacs, Ph.D. Last week I talked politics, this week it’s religion and 2,500 years of repression by both Church and State. More about Betty: Betty J. Kovacs’ extensive study of the shaman-mystic spiritual tradition of prehistory reveals how this early knowledge of the blueprint for our evolution was distorted and covered up by Western religions. She shares her knowledge and passion through her books, speaking, teaching and media interviews in the United States and Europe. She speaks to national and global audiences through webinars, keynote presentations and media interviews. More than 2,500 years of repression by both Church and State have thwarted our evolution, forced our science into a limited, materialistic understanding of life, and now threatens the survival of all life on our planet. We need to know this history. Twentieth-century scholars have unearthed this lost history in the nick of time. In spite of its repression, this is the fifth time this ancient knowledge has emerged in Western history. Only now are we able to see its origins, its continuity, and the depth of what it can mean for us today. The ultimate fruit of the tree of life is the knowledge that we are all Universal Mind, immortal, divine, and creators. Without this knowledge of who we really are, we have fallen into depression, violence, fanaticism, fundamentalism, addiction to power, death and drugs that promise to transform our experience of a world without heart and soul. We are destroying ourselves and the planet. We have forgotten that the heart connects us to a larger reality that nurtures the birth of a just and feeling world. Merchants of Light: The Consciousness That Is Changing the World returns to us our shaman-mystic-scientist heritage that carries the blueprint for heart consciousness. This blueprint is revealed in the heart wisdom of the mystic and in the new science of quantum physics. The return of this Consciousness is changing the world. Author Betty J. Kovacs, Ph.D., a recognized expert, shares her knowledge and passion through her books, speaking, teaching and media interviews in the United States and Europe. She speaks to national and global audiences through webinars, keynote presentations and media interviews. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, in Comparative Literature and Theory of Symbolic/ Mythic Language. She taught Literature, Writing, and Symbolic/Mythic Language for twenty-five years. She served many years as Chair and Program Chair on the Board of Directors of the Jung Society of Claremont in California and sits on the Academic Advisory Board of Forever Family Foundation. Within a three-year period, she experienced the deaths of her mother, her son, and her husband in separate automobile accidents. While she had studied shamanism before her son’s accident, she and her husband actually experienced their son’s consciousness after his death for an extended period of time. These experiences completely changed their lives. Her first book, The Miracle of Death: There Is Nothing But Life, is about these altered states of consciousness. After her retirement, she began an intensified period of research into our ancestors’ experience of a vaster consciousness, Cosmic/Christ Consciousness, which she relates in her new book, Merchants of Light: The Consciousness That Is Changing the World, winner of the Nautilus Silver Book Award and The Scientific & Medical Network 2019 Book Prize. Here [in Merchants of Light] are the spiritual secrets that the priests of the patriarchy and their drive for power have tried to repress, but which we urgently need at this present moment of evolutionary crisis. __Lewellyn Vaughan-Lee, Ph.D., Sufi teacher and author The Kamlak Center: www.kamlak.com Heartmath.com Music for all episodes by Jon Griffin. “The Holocaust is not mere history, and the memorial landscape barely hints at the maelstrom of reverberations of the Nazi era at a personal level.” Aaron Freiwald, Managing Partner of Freiwald Law and host of the weekly podcast, Good Law | Bad Law, is joined by Professor Mary Fulbrook, from University College London, to discuss her recent book, “Reckonings: Legacies of Nazi Persecution and the Quest for Justice," and the overarching themes that impact our world today. Professor Fulbrook’s book expands our understandings of Germany’s past, exploring the ways in which individuals became enablers and accomplices to the perpetrators, the diversity of experiences among a wide range of victims as they struggled and died, or managed, against all odds to survive and the continuing legacy of Nazi persecution across generations and continents. The process Mary illuminates is how the lives of individuals across a full spectrum of suffering and guilt, capture one small part of the greater story. Aaron and Mary delve into these concepts and more, diving deep into Mary’s work on the book as well as her research on the area as a whole. Mary and Aaron talk about Mary’s personal background and family history, the shaping of history versus that of memory, the failures of the legal system, comparative geo-political locations, and the landscapes of Western and Eastern Europe. They discuss the miscarriages of justice, the memorialization that has happened since, and the impact of the Holocaust on today as well as the past. Professor Fulbrook is currently directing a funded collaborative research project on ‘Compromised Identities? Reflections on perpetration and complicity under Nazism’ (2018-2021.) Joining UCL in October of 1983, she is Professor of German History, having studied at Newnham College, Cambridge as an undergraduate, and at Harvard University, where she did her MA and PhD. Professor Fulbrook currently supervises a number of PhD students on topics on modern German and European history. Her teaching has ranged from introductory courses on German history from medieval times to the present, through to more specialized source-led teaching on the German Democratic Republic, and MA courses on ‘Theoretical Issues in History and Literature,’ and ‘The Making of Modern Europe.’ Professor Fulbrook’s work continually includes themes such as European Studies, Heritage, History and Cultures, and Language, Linguistics and Literature. Among wider professional commitments, Professor Fulbrook is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Memorial Foundation for the former concentration camps of Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora. She has served on the Council of the British Academy, and as Chair of its Modern History Section. She was a member of the Advisory Board of the German Historical Institute London; and a member of the International Advisory Board of the Bundeskanzler-Willy-Brandt-Stiftung. She currently serves on the Editorial Boards of German Politics and Society, and of Zeithistorische Forschungen. She was the first female Chair of the German History Society, and was joint founding Editor of its journal, German History. To find a copy of Professor Fulbrook’s book, please click here. In this episode, we ask whether prisons do the jobs they were originally created to do. Has there been an increasingly enlightened approach to balancing reform, care and punishment? What did this look like in past regimes, and where is our current system succeeding and failing? To answer these questions, we spoke to Dr David Scott from The OU's School of Social Policy & Criminology, who has published more than 15 books on issues around crime, punishment and justice - including his most recent work Against Imprisonment. He is a former coordinator of the European Group for the Study of Deviance and Social Control, the most established critical criminology forum in the world today. He’s also a member of the Academic Advisory Board for INQUEST, a charity supporting the bereaved families of those who die in state custody.
What voices have been silenced in the history of the Holocaust? How did victims and perpetrators make sense of their experiences? How did the failed pursuit of post-war justice shape public memory? In her new book Reckonings: Legacies of Nazi Persecution and the Quest for Justice (Oxford University Press, 2018), Mary Fulbrook uses diaries, memoirs, and trials to recover the full spectrum of suffering and guilt. By exposing the disconnect between official myths and unspoken realities of post-war justice, Mary illuminates the changing public attitudes to perpetrators and survivors. Mary Fulbrook is a Professor of German History at University College London. Her numerous books cover modern Germany, its two dictatorships, the Holocaust, and questions of historical interpretation. She currently directs the AHRC Compromised Identities project on the character and personal legacies of perpetration and complicity. Fulbrook is also a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the former concentration camps Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora as well as the Editorial Boards of German Politics and Society and Zeithistorische Forschungen. Associate Director of the UMass Poll, which conducts public opinion research in Massachusetts and the United States to inform policymaking. Under current judicial interpretation, the government has very little wiggle room to curb the spending of money for electioneering. Spending money to influence elections is interpreted as integral to first amendment rights. However, the Supreme Court has signaled that governments are able to compel disclosure of political contributions. Disclosure -- publicizing who donors are, who they are giving to, and how much -- is seen as the primary way that governments can mitigate concerns about the role of money in politics. There are a number of disclosure policy proposals out there, and the goal of this panel is to sort through the various ideas for reform. The lawyers on the panel (Gerken and Potter) will talk about the legal foundations and policy proposals. The political scientists (La Raja and Primo) will talk about the empirical evidence of the effects of disclosure laws.
