In this interview with author Daniel Pinchbeck, we explore the ultimate meaning of the psychological and civilizational crisis we are facing today. As humanities rapid evolution has disrupted our fragile ecosystems, we must consider a transition between an old world and way of living to the next world, our future societies. Daniel describes his ideas for regenerative or post-growth societies, where an emphasis is placed on the things we can grow together, indefinitely, rather than our current systems that do not produce happiness. We consider ways to enhance regenerative practices and question whether core issues in love have led to corruption. Daniel Pinchbeck is a writer, author and blogger. His works include Breaking Open the Head (2002), 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl (2006), and most recently How Soon is Now (2017). He was the executive director of the think tank Center for Planetary Culture, and launched the web magazine Reality Sandwich and co-founded Evolver.net. How can we collectively act now to dramatically shift our course to a better planetary future? In this episode Amisha meets New York Times bestselling author and speaker Daniel Pinchbeck. His most recent book "How Soon is Now" looks at the ecological crisis as a rite of passage or initiation for humanity and proposes a "blueprint for the future". Daniel speaks about the disruptive breaks and shifts in consciousness required to address our global crises and the technological, systemic and social solutions which will support them- including blockchain, gigantic kelp farms and planetary terraforming. We hear why collective mass action is our best hope for change, how Facebook offers the potential for collective action but thwarts us from having the power and why we must prepare now to act quickly when the next breaking point comes and what stands in the way of committed, collective action. "We are in this process of disintegration - an accelerated meltdown of what were stable aspects of our planetary support system- expressing something within us that has to die, change and be reborn." ~ Daniel Pinchbeck Links from this episode and more at www.thefutureisbeautiful.co
Aired Wednesday, 8 August 2018, 3:00 PM ETHow Soon Is Now?: The Handbook for Global Change with Daniel PinchbeckJoin us this “Wisdom Wednesday” as we welcome special guest philosopher, radical thinker and author Daniel Pinchbeck to discuss his new book, ‘How Soon Is Now?: The Handbook for Global Change.’SHOW TOPIC: How Soon Is now? The Handbook For Global Change…“A blueprint for the future” — Russell Brand“For anyone interested in considering how we got into this mess and how we can get out of it, How Soon is Now? will not disappoint… Pinchbeck is an important thinker of our time, and his is a brave and necessary book.” – Dr Jason Hickel, LSE Review of BooksFor the last few years the world has been on the brink of an ecological mega-crisis, and our actions over the next few years will determine the global landscapes for years to come. In the last few months alone we’ve seen incredible movements arising all around the world which have been borne out of the catastrophic catalysts around us- environmental actions, Me Too, Never Again, and more. This is exactly what author, philosopher, and radical thinker Daniel Pinchbeck has been predicting; that our crucial crises now are actually an opportunity for conscious communal change.ABOUT THE GUEST:Drawing on a huge range of resources and references, from economics to Eastern philosophies and religions, Pinchbeck presents a compelling argument for the need for change on a global basis. How Soon is Now? is a manifesto and a tactical plan of action. It proposes a new narrative for a unified social movement. Through global cooperation, we can face this collective threat- ecologically, socially, politically, culturally, and spiritually- in order to not just survive, but thrive and expand into a new consciousness.Website: https://www.watkinspublishing.com

Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the new book, How Soon is Now? joins us this week to talk about the global ecological crisis, climate change, and how psychedelics may play a role in transforming human culture. If you do believe that we are in a time of great ecological crisis, what are you doing about it? Taking action is the most important step to creating change, but are we willing to take the sacrifices and action to create change? Daniel shares his insights about how to take action to implement change. While some of these changes may be challenging, i.e., stop traveling as much, it may be necessary to help cut carbon emissions and to slow down the global warming cycle. Or is it too late to even take action? A recent journal article, "Lifetime experience with (classic) psychedelics predicts pro-environmental behavior through an increase in nature relatedness" states: Our model controlled for experiences with other classes of psychoactive substances (cannabis, dissociatives, empathogens, popular legal drugs) as well as common personality traits that usually predict drug consumption and/or nature relatedness (openness to experience, conscientiousness, conservatism). Although correlational in nature, results suggest that lifetime experience with psychedelics in particular may indeed contribute to people’s pro-environmental behavior by changing their self-construal in terms of an incorporation of the natural world, regardless of core personality traits or general propensity to consume mind-altering substances. Thereby, the present research adds to the contemporary literature on the beneficial effects of psychedelic substance use on mental wellbeing, hinting at a novel area for future research investigating their potentially positive effects on a societal level. About How Soon is Now? Description of his book from Amazon.com We are on the brink of an ecological mega-crisis, threatening the future of life on earth, and our actions over the next few years may well determine the destiny of our descendants. Between a manifesto and a tactical plan of action, How Soon is Now? by radical futurist and philosopher Daniel Pinchbeck, outlines a vision for a mass social movement that will address this crisis. Drawing on extensive research, Daniel Pinchbeck presents a compelling argument for the need for change on a global basis. The central thesis is that humanity has unconsciously self-willed ecological catastrophe to bring about a transcendence of our current condition. We are facing an initiatory ordeal on a planetary scale. We can understand that this initiation is necessary for us to evolve from one state of being – our current level of consciousness – to the next. Overcoming outmoded ideologies, we will realize ourselves as one unified being, a planetary super-organism in a symbiotic relationship with the Earth's ecology and the entire web of life. Covering everything from energy and agriculture, to culture, politics, media and ideology, How Soon Is Now? is ultimately about the nature of the human soul and the future of our current world. Pinchbeck calls for an intentional redesign of our current systems, transforming unjust and elitist structures into participatory, democratic, and inclusive ones. His viewpoint integrates indigenous design principles and Eastern metaphysics with social ecology and radical political thought in a new synthesis. “We are on the brink of an ecological mega-crisis, threatening the future of life on earth, and our actions over the next few years may well determine the destiny of our descendants” – Daniel Pinchbeck, futurist & philosopher. The Russell Brand-esque Jamie McIvor joins the pod to talk environment, sustainability, climate change and the future of our planet. With a wisdom, positivity and spirituality beyond his years, he provides a simple and clear understanding of why fossil fuels and carbon capture storage are not viable solutions as the world sleepwalks to a precarious pollution tipping point. He is currently pioneering a mould-breaking, anaerobic, biotechnology process that mirrors mother nature, and one which if implemented, would not only reduce carbon from the atmosphere, but potentially remove it altogether. Jamie explains how a near-death snowboarding accident caused him to rethink his career path and we also learn what it is like to live on a barge in central London. In typical fashion, Pinchbeck offers a wide-ranging exploration of the issues, including the roles that psychedelics and sexuality will play in the coming shift. Daniels interests range from the transformation of global currencies and sustainable farming to tribal initiation rites. His fans know him best as one of the few who foresaw the rise in interest in Ayahuasca, Iboga, and DMT more than a decade agoa topic he wrote about in his 2002 book, Breaking Open the Head. His 2006 book, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, delved into the crop circle phenomenon, among other esoteric topics.
Daniel Pinchbeck has successfully morphed himself into of the most sought after, poignant and razor sharp social critics and consciousness surveyors of our time. His latest book "How Soon is Now" is like a how-to survival guide for the complicated world we are forging our way into. He stopped by the kitchen table to talk about the book, going "down and in", some politics, new economic systems and a whole bunch of other stuff. One hour with Daniel is just scratching the surface. It was a pleasure to spend some time with him and I hope we get to do it again. Also, be sure to pick up a copy of "How Soon Is Now" when it's released in February of 2017. Daniel Pinchbeck, author of Breaking Open the Head and the forthcoming book, How Soon is Now, talks with Rak Razam about planetary crisis and evolutionary pressure. As we face a multitude of social, economic and political challenges, can we utilize the revolutionary energy of these times to transform our very way of being? If consciousness is the key, how do we entrain our consciousness to come into a Gaian, planetary groove? Is the shamanic revival helping nurture this consciousness, even as sacred plants become hip and commodified? Are we humans on the cusp of realizing we are a super organism in a symbiotic relationship with the earth as a whole system? Are corporations an organ of that being and can we reclaim them and other cultural extensions to bring culture back into balance with nature? Is the planetary crisis our species initiation, and does it need us to break open our hearts, as well as our heads to survive? A thought provoking discussion with two leading minds of the New Paradigm. It's time for another request episode here on DMP, and this one comes from a listener who thought we should play The Smiths. What a great idea! Jonny and co-host Andy Goergen discover this legendary British band together, as we're both slightly too young and far too American to have latched on the first time around. Lead singer Morrissey has one of those love-it-or-hate-it voices, but there's no denying his talent and dramatic delivery of these sad songs. While the subject matter is often angsty, you'll be carried right along by the upbeat rhythm section and Johnny Marr's fast, flashy guitar licks. Here's the playlist: 1. Big Mouth Strikes Again (The Queen is Dead) 2. Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before (Strangeways, Here We Come) 3. Cemetry Gates (The Queen is Dead) 4. Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now (Single) 5. This Charming Man (The Smiths) 6. How Soon is Now (Meat is Murder) 7. The Boy With the Thorn in His Side (The Queen is Dead) 8. There is a Light That Never Goes Out (The Queen is Dead) 9. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want (Single) 10. I Know It's Over (The Queen is Dead) 11. Barbarism Begins at Home (Meat is Murder) Encore: Death Cab for Cutie - "Marching Bands of Manhattan" (Plans)

Working out where to start with my November Rubber Stamped was somewhat difficult. From a personal perspective alongside playing with Nick Warren and recording Rubber Stamped August 2009 Sick Music (my Jazzy, Soulful Drum and Bass mix) my October Rubber Stamped was one of my favourites yet. Nevertheless I managed to get my arse onto beatport.com and bought 14 tunes brand new today. 12 were new to me but I had been aware of 2 of them for 4 or 5 months but until today they had not been released. Nick Warren played the original mix of Downpipe by D Ramirez and Mark Knight v Underworld at Fratelli Club back in June and Sebastian Ingrosso rocked Fratelli club on the opening night May 22nd with what was at the time his new tune How Soon is Now. This tune is a main room banger if ever I heard one. If you like you can check out the youtube video wall on my homepage where you can see the crowds reaction when he dropped this in the club. To say it was going off is an understatement. My November mix starts off a bit deeper and techy then builds up through the gears ending with some proper main room bangers. Hope you enjoy the tunes and as ever if you are listening then drop me an email with some feedback at matt at djrubber.co.uk Nice One Matt
