If there's a central inquiry to the Waking Youth podcast it's this: How might we consciously initiate ourselves—as individuals and as a species–into the next stage of our evolution? Turn our ecological emergency, our polycrisis, into an opportunity for global transformation?Daniel Pinchbeck has dedicated his life and career to living this question.Author of Breaking Open the Head, 2012 The Return of Quetzalcoatl, How Soon Is Now, and more recently, the Substack newsletter Liminal News, Daniel's work explores consciousness, politics, mysticism, and social change. He has spent decades not just writing about change, but actively seeking it through projects like the Evolver Network, The Elevator's Substack, and online courses on the ecological emergency. In this episode, we unpack Daniel's story of becoming—from his early days as a child of the Beat Generation in New York, to his awakening into a more mystical paradigm. We talk about writing as a tool for transformation, how to catalyze social and environmental shifts, the war between the genders, and the connection between non-normative relational models (like polyamory) and social healing.Last but not least, we listen to Daniel's words of wisdom for the younger generations, coming of age in this pivotal evolutionary moment.Enjoy!References:* TAZ: The Temporary Autonomous Zone* Techno-Feudalism: What Killed Capitalism* Why Materialism is Baloney* Morphogenetic Fields, Rupert Sheldrake* Manifesto for the Noosphere* The Myth of Male Power* The Red Pill* The Outrage Machine* Sexual Personae* Existential Kink* Eros Unredeemed* The Case Against the Sexual Revolution* Internet for the PeopleCredits:* Music Audio Producer & Editor: Carlos Sierra* Producer, Writer & Host: Carlota Guedes To hear more, visit www.wakingyouth.org

Podremos viajar en el tiempo para entrar en los estudios donde se gestaron éxitos como “This Charming Man”, “What Difference Does It Make?”, “Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now”, “William, It Was Really Nothing», «How Soon Is Now?” y, cómo no, The Smiths, su LP debut. In April 2019 KAV SANDHU (Happy Mondays) launched BLITZ VEGA with ANDY ROURKE, the legendary bassist who helped craft the iconic sound of the 80s with seminal band, The Smiths. His recognizable and undeniable iconic bass lines from Barbarism Begins at Home to How Soon Is Now helped solidify the sound of the Smiths. It is no wonder Johnny Marr declared Rourke's playing on The Queen of Dead LP as "Something no other bass player could match."BLITZ VEGA debuted their first single, "Hey Christo" in April 16, 2019. They played their debut live show on July 24, 2019 at the House of Machines in the Los Angeles Art District. They followed up with the release of their second single "Lost & Found" mixed by Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream/ Kasabian/ Massive Attack) on September 20, 2019 and a single for Halloween on October 30, 2019 called LA Vampire. They then released the single "Strong Forever" on November 17, 2022 which featured special guest Johnny Marr, the guitarist of the Smiths. Rourke and Marr reunited for their first recording together in 35 years. KAV helped Shaun Ryder re-form the legendary Manchester band Happy Mondays in 2004. He went on to tour internationally with the Happy Mondays, playing Coachella with the band in 2007 and co-writing their album Unkle Dysfunctional as well as the title track "Playground Superstar." He launched his solo project under moniker "KAV" in 2008 and debut his EP "Blaggers N' Liars" which the single was featured in Showtime. KAV co-founded the club night Getloaded in London's Turnmills nightclub, one of the biggest indie festivals in London and awarded "Best New Festival " at the UK Festival Awards in 2004.Andy passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer on May 19, 2023. As Andy had requested, BLITZ VEGA will be releasing their album in early 2024. Matthew Sweet, an American guitarist, has had a criminally understated career, marked by a sensational solo album, “Girlfriend”, three terrific albums with Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles, “Under the Covers” (Vols 1, 2 and 3) and some very tasty soundtrack work, including the Austin Powers movies. In 2014, he also appeared as Apu's singing voice in an episode of The Simpsons. Our “Album you Must Hear Before you Die” is “Rid of Me” by P J Harvey. We hated it and can't pretend otherwise! She was, at one point, in a relationship with Nick Cave, who admitted that he “still had a certain amount of work to do on (his) understanding of the concept of monogamy.” Jeff is totally impressed that Kid Rock's built his own personal copy of The White House, with a gold elevator right in the middle. Of course, Kid Rock's claim to fame is that he had a hit single which sampled Warren Zevon's “Werewolves of London”. We also try some of Mr Beast's chocolate – pricey but available at your local supermarket. Not very good, really. Enjoy. ___________________________________________________________ References: Michael Stipe, “Girlfriend”, “Evangeline”, “I've Been Waiting”, Girlfriend – musical/stage show, Robert Quine, Richard Lloyd, Television, Tuesday Weld, Susanna Hoffs, Under the Covers, “How Soon Is Now?”, “Austin Powers in Goldmember”, Lloyd Cole, "Chelsea Hotel", I'm Your Fan: The Songs of Leonard Cohen, “The Simpsons” P J Harvey Rid of MeGirlFriendUnder the Covers Mathew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs

This week's show is with Daniel Pinchbeck. Daniel is the New York Times bestselling author of Breaking Open the Head, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, How Soon Is Now, and When Plants Dream (with Sophia Roklhin). He hosted the talk show Mind Shift on Gaia TV and was featured in the 2010 documentary, 2012: Time for Change. He has written for many publications including The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Wired, Dazed & Confused, Purple, and ArtForum. He is the director of Liminal.news, an online course platform, and publishes a regular newsletter, Danielpinchbeck.substack.com . In this conversation, Daniel and I explored the fascinating topic of Secret Histories and Spiritual Revolutions, why we need magic right now, and how our relationship to myth can reawaken our imaginative and intuitive faculties. The quote we mentioned: “What if at the higher levels of meaning consciousness is like a hyperspace in which each point is equidistant from the other and where ‘the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere? … The mythologies of the occult seem like baroque music: there is an overall similar quality of sound and movement, but, upon examination, each piece of music is unique; Vivaldi and Scarlatti are similar and different.” - William Irwin Thompson, Passages About Earth I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: Even as someone who spends a lot of time contemplating the importance of magic, it impacted me deeply hearing Daniel share about how Western esoteric knowledge in particular is largely missing in today's world We, as a culture, have ridiculed and denied the truth and power of magic and esoteric knowledge, and there's something very healing in reclaiming it I loved what Daniel said about how our relationship to myth can reawaken our imaginative and intuitive faculties. Humans live and think mythologically, that we are scientific and logical just isn't true, the more we can make our mythical nature conscious, the more we can engage with myths in a generative and opening way Resources and stuff that we spoke about: The article that inspired this conversation Daniel's Official Newsletter: Liminal News Daniel's Website: theliminalinstitute Thank you for listening! Today's guest is a MUST RELEASE!! I interviewed Daniel back in January and feel that now is the perfect time to release this conversation - as Pluto enters into Aquarius. Pluto isn't afraid to question who's in charge, navigating the most complex systematic networks and quietly ripping them apart from the inside out. Queue up this conversation with Daniel Pinchbeck! He is the author of Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, How Soon Is Now, and When Plants Dream, among other works. In his books and Substack, he explores philosophical and critical perspectives on shamanism, and his personal transformation from a cynic to a mystic. He's a philosopher, author, psychonaut, and activist. In this episode, we discuss: how his mom being part of the Beat generation influences his work how he explains the Aquarian, liminal age that we're now experiencing how we can grok this idea that this earth is reincarnating why thinking should be from the heart how integration + shadow work can circumvent the corporatization of psychedelics the importance of going beyond our traumas the importance of grief and sorrow Follow Daniel's Substack: https://danielpinchbeck.substack.com/ Subscribe to the Art of Humanity at www.artofhumanity.io/subscribe Find me on LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, or email: hello@jessicaannmedia.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/beingishuman Instagram: https://instagram.com/beingishuman Twitter: https://twitter.com/beingishuman

He is the director of Liminal.news, an online course platform, and publishes a regular newsletter, Danielpinchbeck.substack.com . In this conversation, Daniel and I explored the fascinating topic of DMT, (N, N-Dimethyltryptamine) also known as the Spirit Molecule. We covered what DMT is, its history and research that's been done about it, and how Daniel sees its role in human consciousness and the challenges of the world today. I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: Daniel described the two schools of thought around the use of psychedelics, one ceremonial and one purely focused on their medical use, given the wider benefits of modern humans reclaiming our connection to nature and to the ancient practice of ceremony and ritual, if you're listening to this show then you don't need to choose between those options - you can have both! I loved what Daniel said about the ways that different spiritual traditions have practices such as darkness immersion and meditation that open humans to the kinds of experiences that taking DMT can create... ultimately all of these practices appear to be giving us an experience of reality beyond that of our ordinary human consciousness There's a renaissance in the use of DMT in its various forms happening now and we're discovering uses and benefits in all kinds of fields - as Daniel said, this could be akin to the period in which we discovered electricity and how to harness it Resources and stuff that we spoke about Daniel's Official Newsletter Thank you for listening! Physical Therapy has as many vibes as he does aliases. You never really know what you're going to get from his sets—you can probably count on a bit of UK garage and some breakbeats, but beyond that, it's a free-for-all. He's gone through phases ranging from DIY pop edits to grayscale Berlin techno to all the fantastic and unpredictable music on his label Allergy Season to his latest EP of vocal-heavy 2-step tracks, part of a recent move towards more emotional dance music that he says captures his "twee" side. If there's anyone that truly believes in the power of crying on the dance floor, it's him. He's an expert at themed mixes, pulling together loosely categorized sections of his vast and sometimes hilarious collection. (Other sets, like his revered Honcho Campout recording, are gloriously all over the place.) But for his RA Podcast he's gone straight for the dance floor, choosing the kind of thing he would play at a club rather than one of his NTS sets. It's typically era-spanning and adventurous, yet woven together with an expert touch, running from an underrated Texas dubstep label (Pushing Red) to old-school IDM to vintage Miss Kittin and even an obscure (or just forgotten) turn-of-the-millennium cover of "How Soon Is Now" that would only really sound right in his hands. Today podcaster, writer, musician, director and Emmy-winning actor Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos, The Lovely Bones) joins me to talk about the classic 1985 album by the Smiths, Meat is Murder. We talk about how this album broadened the Smiths post-punk sound, incorporating elements of rockabilly and funk, the under-heralded rhythm section of Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce, how Morrissey's lyrics and persona compares to Tennessee Williams and Oscar Wilde, the difference between depressing music and music that explores negative subject matter, how impactful the band was despite their short time together, the small tweak from Johnny Marr that rescued How Soon Is Now?, how this record turned Michael vegetarian, how the Smiths album cover design inspired the front cover of Michael's novel. Plus, Michael talks about getting into a fight at a Morrissey concert and whether he will play Lou Reed in the adaptation of his novel The Perfume Burned His Eyes.
This week's guest is Johnny Marr. Since co-founding The Smiths, Johnny has gone on to perform, write & play guitar with a long list of luminary bands & projects that include Modest Mouse, The The, The Pretenders, Blondie, The Cribs & Talking Heads. Johnny has contributed & worked closely with Hans Zimmer on film scores for Inception, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 & most recently No Time To Die, the newest James Bond film. In addition, Johnny has consistently released & supported solo records, with the newest release Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, out February 25th. John, Amy & Johnny discuss the role that perception takes in his song writing, the sense of community between him & his audience & why he's more comfortable fronting a band than solely playing guitar. Amy & John share their views on human “vibration,” it's relation to health, & Johnny describes its presence in the “How Soon Is Now'' riff. Johnny tells why he doesn't tout the puritanical version of sobriety & of course, John & Johnny talk about their shared obsession, running. Our episode opens with John & Amy's reflection on the similarities between the human species. Amy questions her age appropriateness of body piercing & they both share their own experiences of having various body parts pierced. They also discuss how human struggle can shape our similarities. This week's featured music is by Johnny Marr, from his new record Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, out February 25th. Theme music by Michael Lerner. Daniel Pinchbeck – Conspiracy Theories or Con’s Piracy Facts?Finding Reality in a Post-Truth WorldAired Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM ESTInterview with Author, Publisher and Psychedelic Traveler Daniel Pinchbeck“There’s so much fake news and real lies out there, we don’t know what to NOT believe.” — Swami BeyondanandaWith reality checks bouncing like crazy for Q-Anon folks and others who believed that Donald Trump really won the election, one might imagine folks would sober up and join a group like Q-Anon-Anon to recover a bit of sanity. But … no.People continue to believe what they want to believe, and take shelter in preferred realities regardless of what is happening in “real” reality. At a time when the veils are being lifted on toxic perpetrations, some of which challenge our most fundamental beliefs about what is real, what do we do? At a time when folks on one side believe EVERYTHING is a conspiracy, and folks on the other believe that NOTHING is, how do we find a story that will help us move ahead together? Our guest this week, Daniel Pinchbeck is the author of a new book, Conspiranoia: The Betrayed States of America, where he shines a light down the rabbit hole to help us find a likelier (if not lovelier) story, and seeks to balance conspiracy theory with con’s piracy fact. That is, he is willing to look at the exploitative practices and relationships behind our true malaise, and recognize many of these conspiracies as trance-like distractions. The founder of Reality Sandwich magazine, and co-founder of Evolver.net, Daniel is the author of Breaking Open the Head, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, and How Soon Is Now, as well as his most recent, Conspiranoia. He has also appeared on The Colbert Report, Coast to Coast AM, The History Channel, Whitley Strieber’s Unknown Country, BrandX with Russell Brand, Interview Magazine, Purple, and many other places. If you’re ready for a journey “beyond belief” to find a more “real” reality, please join us this Tuesday, January 26th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET.To find out more about Daniel Pinchbeck and his work, please go here: http://www.pinchbeck.io/Support Wiki Politiki — A Clear Voice In the “Bewilderness”If you LOVE what you hear, and appreciate the mission of Wiki Politiki, “put your money where your mouse is” … Join the “upwising” — join the conversation, and become a Wiki Politiki supporter: http://wikipolitiki.com/join-the-upwising/Make a contribution in any amount via PayPal (https://tinyurl.com/y8fe9dks)Go ahead, PATRONIZE me! Parry has just released a new film, Tawai, which focuses on the meaning of indigenous traditions and the quest for deeper states of awareness and consciousness. Recorded at The Assemblage, a co-working and co-living community based in New York City.

His new book, How Soon Is Now, comes out in Februrary, 2017. Featuring a preface from Sting and an introduction from Russell Brand, How Soon Is Now? looks at the ecological crisis as a rite of passage or initiation for humanity and proposes a "blueprint for the future" - how we must redesign our technical and social systems to avert the worst consequences of ecological collapse. Sting says the new book, How Soon is Now? by Daniel Pinchbeck “Gives us the context we need to understand the chaos and turbulence of our times.” Russell Brand calls it “A blueprint for the future.” And Charles Eisenstein says it “pushes the climate change conversation well beyond its usual edges.” But how can a book covering everything from energy and agriculture to culture, politics, media, and ideology, ultimately be about the nature of the soul? Tune in and find out.
Author Daniel Pinchbeck and Destin discuss the courage required from us individually and collectively to face the shadow presented to us by a President Trump as well as by the ecological crisis we face. According to Daniel, we can see this period as an initiation or a rite of passage for humanity as a species. What is the next "operating system" for human society? How might it work and how can we contribute to it? Daniel Pinchbeck is the bestselling author of Breaking Open the Head and 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl. His new book, How Soon Is Now?, comes out in February from Watkins howsoonisnow.info. He was a founder of Reality Sandwich and Evolver.net. He was featured in the 2010 documentary, 2012: Time for Change. He is currently launching a new media platform, WOKE Woke.network.
