This episode is a special treat as Happy speaks to Sheila Gillette as she channels the 12 archangels known as the collective, Theo! You can find Theo at https://www.asktheo.com https://www.facebook.com/asktheo/ A pioneer in channeling, Sheila Gillette, began direct voice mediumship with THEO before the term channeling was born. With raw courage and the assistance of THEO, she began channeling in the early 1970s. Having been tested by leading physicists early on, and witnessing the positive transformation THEO's guidance created in her life and the lives of her clients, she gained the confidence to remain steadfast in sharing THEO's wisdom, and they have been a beacon of light ever since. THEO's teachings and Sheila's experience and knowledge have assisted many people across the world, including Esther Hicks (channel of Abraham), open to their natural intuitive abilities, stand in the light of their soul's truth, and nurture their ability to connect with the guidance about them. Sheila is an author (books published by both Simon & Schuster and Tarcher/Penguin), leader, speaker, and teacher who has witnessed waves of people awaken to their multidimensionality and says the time we're currently living in enlivens her because this is the time of grand transformation we've all been waiting to experience, the 5th dimension. While comprised of twelve archangelic beings, THEO speaks through Sheila in a single voice. THEO has never been embodied, but rather speaks to us from higher dimensions. Paramount to THEO's teachings is Soul Integration™ which leads to a stronger sense of self-love, and what many conceive of as enlightenment. The individual and collective challenges people face, as well as the dreams and ambitions they aspire to, can be met through learning how to become integrated. In this way, the Law of Attraction takes on new meaning as desired vision becomes less cerebral and more fully integrated in mind, body, and spirit. The following is a detail of Sheila's timeline for anyone that is interested. 1969 - Sheila's near death experience after the birth of her 3rd child, pulmonary embolisms, experience with Jesus and miraculous healing. Medical professor used her x-rays in teaching and when students would review her case study, they would surmise she died and were always surprised she survived. This launched a variety of psychic experiences including automatic writing (some in Castilian Spanish and she doesn't know Spanish, info on Watergate 2 years before it happened, she was able to verify later) and a variety of other things that led to direct voice channeling. Sheila channeled Orlos first, they said they were preparing her body for the higher teachers of THEO, whose stronger energy came through later. Sheila was invited and attended the July 25th, 1976 psychic conference at the University of Miami where physicists, engineers, anthropologists, and parapsychologists met and determined psychics and psychic phenomena valid and promising subjects for serious scientific inquiry. One of the lead physicists that tested Sheila was Dr. Evan Harris Walker, originator of the observational theory in parapsychology and author of The Physics of Consciousness. In 1984 Sheila held her first Psychic Workshop in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and invited Dr. Walker, Russel Targ, Stephan Schwartz and other speakers. She spoke at the Aspen Institute Design Conference, and worked with John Denver and the Windstar Foundation Sheila hosted her own events and was a guest speaker at a variety of events over the years. THEO's wisdom draws people from around the world from all different occupations. Sheila and THEO supported Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, psychiatrist, pioneer in near-death studies, internationally best-selling author of 'On Death and Dying' where she first discussed her theory of the five stages of grief, also known as the "Kübler-Ross model". She was a central figure in the hospice care movement. Sheila and THEO supported Virginia Satir, psychotherapist known for her pioneering work in the field of family reconstruction therapy and was honored with the title "Mother of Family Therapy.” Sheila has done hospice support in hospitals and homes. She assisted many suffering from Aids in the 1980s in Dallas/Ft. Worth and Santa Fe, NM 1988 Simon & Schuster published The 5th Dimension: Channels to a New Reality 1989 She spoke at the Los Angeles Whole Life Expo 2000 Sheila and husband Marcus Gillette started a terrestrial radio show that later moved to VoiceAmerica internet radio and iTunes podcasts. 2007 launched new AskTHEO website which led to the creation of the THEO Group membership 2008 Tarcher/Penguin published The Soul Truth: A Guide to Inner Peace co-authored with husband Marcus Gillette. 2011 Launched THEO mentorship programs via teleseminar technology. 2012 moved mentorship programs to live video online interactive webinars. Dec 21, 2012 hosted online, live collaborative ‘2012' event with other new thought leaders. THEO began speaking about 2012 and the 5th Dimension before José Argüelles 2015 Launched THEO's Soul Integration™ Certified Facilitator program. 2016 Spoke at the United Nations 2016 Oct - transitioned AskTHEO Live Radio show to AskTHEO Live Interactive Internet TV to include live video. 2017 launched THEO spiritual travel events - have taken clients to Kauai, the south of France, the Riviera Maya – and going to Egypt fall 2022. Mentorship programs have grown into 9 different programs ranging from 2 ½ day live retreats to full year mastermind experiences. Later this year Sheila and her team are launching the new Art of Relationship book, video teaching and evergreen product.

Join host Piers Kaniuka and researcher and author Dr. James Ryan as they discuss Mitch Horowitz's book Occult America: The Secret History of How Mysticism Shaped Our Nation (Bantam, Sept 2009). This episode was recorded on September 23, 2020.As the Washington Post wrote about author Mitch Horowitz he "treats esoteric ideas & movements with an even-handed intellectual studiousness". He is the editor-in-chief of Tarcher/Penguin and is a PEN Award-winning historian that has been censored in China. Visit him online at www.MitchHorowitz.com and buy his book here.About the book:It touched lives as disparate as those of Frederick Douglass, Franklin Roosevelt, and Mary Todd Lincoln—who once convinced her husband, Abe, to host a séance in the White House. Americans all, they were among the famous figures whose paths intertwined with the mystical and esoteric movement broadly known as the occult. Brought over from the Old World and spread throughout the New by some of the most obscure but gifted men and women of early U.S. history, this “hidden wisdom” transformed the spiritual life of the still-young nation and, through it, much of the Western world.Yet the story of the American occult has remained largely untold. Now a leading writer on the subject of alternative spirituality brings it out of the shadows. Here is a rich, fascinating, and colorful history of a religious revolution and an epic of offbeat history. From the meaning of the symbols on the one-dollar bill to the origins of the Ouija board, Occult America briskly sweeps from the nation's earliest days to the birth of the New Age era and traces many people and episodes, including:•The spirit medium who became America's first female religious leader in 1776 •The supernatural passions that marked the career of Mormon prophet Joseph Smith •The rural Sunday-school teacher whose clairvoyant visions instigated the dawn of the New Age •The prominence of mind-power mysticism in the black-nationalist politics of Marcus Garvey•The Idaho druggist whose mail-order mystical religion ranked as the eighth-largest faith in the world during the Great Depression Resistance Recovery (RR) is reimagining addiction, recovery, and community in the 21st century. Just Persist If you are struggling in life be it in your finances, relationships, or sense of meaning in life, just persist. Nothing good ever comes from people who can give up. You have to be willing to take the hits and keep on moving, to put in the work whenever everyone else parties, to put your nose to the grindstone while others sleep. If you can persist and keep going, success will come, it may take years, but if you put in the work and push through the hard times, you will succeed in the end. 2. Don’t Ask How, Just Why If you have to ask “how” odds are that you don’t really want to do something. If you came across a wild bear and had to get away, you wouldn’t ask how to get out of the way, you would just do it! And the same is true of success. If you really want to do something and have a strong why, then you will be able to figure out the how no matter what. 3. You Have Nothing But Your Word We have all heard that a man has nothing but his word. And as cliche as it may sound, this is true. You have nothing but your word. If you cannot be trusted, if you have no integrity with others and yourself, then what do you really have to offer the world? Nothing. You have to be a man of your word, take your word and your integrity more seriously than you take your job, your relationships, your passions or anything because your word is the only measure of a man.
Marilyn Horowitz teaches screenwriting at NYU and is herself a screenwriter and producer and author. Screenwriting is in her blood and she has even been called in to be a script doctor when scripts need some fixing. What is it about movies, TV Shows and plays that makes mostly every author want their book to come alive on the big or small screen? I've always wondered why some books succeed on the screen and some books don't. I've also wondered why some screen adaptations are even better than the books but I never understood what it really takes to do the writing. It just seemed like a foreign language to me. Marilyn shares tips from her trademarked Horowitz System of writing including content from her NYU textbook, The 4 Magic Questions of Screenwriting on this episode. She explains how you can eliminate writers block and also clears up how you can use each side of your brain to write quickly and easily. Marilyn Horowitz is an award-winning New York University professor, TV show creator, producer, and Manhattan-based writing coach, who works with successful novelists, produced screenwriters, and award-winning filmmakers. She has a passion for helping novices get started. Since 1998 she has taught thousands of aspiring screenwriters to complete a feature length screenplay using her method. She completed her tenure as a judge for the Fulbright Scholarship Program for film and media students in 2013 and as a judge for the New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT) Ravenal Foundation Grant. In 2004 she received the coveted New York University Award for Teaching Excellence. Professor Horowitz has a created a revolutionary system that yields a new, more effective way of writing. She is the author of six books that help the writer learn her trademarked system, including editions for college, high school, and middle school. The college version is a required text at New York University and the University of California, Long Beach. Two of her books have been used in the Lights, Camera, Literacy! program taught to over 1,000 children in Maryland’s Montgomery County Public School System (a recent recipient of the “Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award” for outstanding scholastic performance). Professor Horowitz writes articles for Script magazine, and she pens a monthly column for MovieOutline.com, an online magazine with 30,000 subscribers. She is featured in Now Write! Screenwriting anthology published by Tarcher/Penguin edited by Sherry Ellis and the 2014 edition of The Expert Success Solution. Marilyn’s latest novel, The Book of Zev, reached Amazon Best Seller status when it was released in December 2014. Professor Horowitz has taught more than 100 classes, seminars, and workshops across the country for groups including the Writers Guild of America East, NYWIFT, Philadelphia Writer’s Conference, Script DC, Screenwriters World East, and the Great American PitchFest. In addition, she also hosts periodic writers retreats in Tuscany, Italy. Professor Horowitz has written several feature-length screenplays. Her production credits include the feature films And Then Came Love (2007), starring Vanessa Williams and distributed by Warner Bros.; Caleb’s Door (2009), distributed by Around the Scenes; Found in Time (2011); Nocturnal Agony (2011); and The One(2011).
When Plants Dream with Daniel Pinchbeck: "Revolution is an antiquated term that refers to older political and social arrangements. What we require now is more like a metamorphosis, where we consciously transform our existing infrastructure from within and without, utilising archaic techniques and postmodern technologies to bring about a polar reversal of values and behaviour." Daniel Pinchbeck is an American author living in New York. His latest publications were When Plants Dream and the Occult Control System. He is also the author of Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism (Broadway Books, 2002), 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl (Tarcher/Penguin, 2006), and Notes from the Edge Times (Tarcher/Penguin, 2010). He is a co-founder of the web magazine, Reality Sandwich, and Evolver.net, and edited the publishing imprint, Evolver Editions, with North Atlantic Books. He was featured in the 2010 documentary, 2012: Time for Change, directed by Joao Amorim and produced by Mangusta Films. He is the founder of the think tank, Center for Planetary Culture, which produced the Regenerative Society Wiki. "To realize the latent potential of our digital communications networks, we would build decentralized, peer-to-peer systems designed to be perpetually evolving, supporting social coordination, making easy and hyper-efficient to share skills and resources. Politically, we would establish something like a functional anarchy, based on nonviolent Satyagraha principles, to supersede the current system of military and corporate control. New social technologies would train people to make effective decisions together, based on consensus methods as well as ongoing referendums." - Daniel Pinchbeck, How Soon Is Now?

No one has been spared from the strong impulse to put things off for later. You might find yourself cleaning out the refrigerator when you should really be working on your taxes. Dilly-dallying and lallygagging are a few ways one's aversion for impending tasks manifests itself. In the Netflix series, The Kominsky Method, Alan Arkin's character loses his wife of nearly 50 years to cancer and at the funeral, his daughter who never visits her ailing mother during her illness shows up. The upset father asks why and to which she replies, “Because I was busy”. When pressed further, the daughter blurts out, “Because I didn't think she'll die.” In this case, the daughter's procrastination went too far.On this episode, our guest, Tim Pychyl, Ph.D., professor of psychology, award-winning teacher, successful author, and prolific podcaster, will talk about why we procrastinate. Since the hallmark of executive dysfunction is inefficiency, poor task management, and lack of goal achievement, this conversation will add a critical perspective to methods of supporting individuals with Executive Function.About Tim Pychyl, Ph.D.Dr. Tim Pychyl is the Director of the Centre for Initiatives in Education and Associate Professor of Psychology at Carleton University, Ottawa. Does that man look a little Husky to you? Fur real. After an interrupted Photober, Flora is back at it with the first part of a double feature on Dogman Tales! With stories of upright canids that act eerily intelligent, dogman tales have poured into the world of cryptozoology since the early 90's. While more and more reports are shared than ever before, stories of these strange, dog-headed bipeds date back much further than you might expect. David breaks down dogmen with a basic description and short history of this type of creature. Dogs feature heavily in the folkore of many cultures and the connection between them and crossroads lore is also discussed. Some encounters are covered, including one of the most famous dogman-related events that helped spark the sharing of current phenomena. Psychic readings and channeling texts… Paul Selig, psychic and award-winning author of channeled texts from Tarcher/Penguin (profile), Paul Selig offers channeled workshops internationally and serves on the faculty of The Omega Institute, joins Julie Chan for a conversation about his work as a psychic and author, the physical toll of the job, and his journey from spiritual awakening to the present. Selig holds a Master’s degree from Yale University and serves on the faculty of The Omega Institute, The Kripalu Center and the Esalen Institute. Also a noted playwright and educator, he served on the faculty of NYU for over 25 years. He directed the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Goddard College for many years, and he now serves on the college’s Board of Trustees. Recorded at MouthMedia Network studios, powered by Sennheiser.Beginning clairaudience, being like a radio, and taking care of oneself Selig describes how he started his journey in 1987 a year out of a Masters program at Yale, while working on an opera. How Gideons leave books in a drawer and he reached for a book, beginning a journey out of necessity, hearing a voice telling him to “get his act together”, and his beginning of a clairaudience. How Selig was an open conduit, and how he operated like a radio when he channels he flips the station a bit then has access to other info. When in 2009, after working with a group in his apartment, he began recording and transcribing what the guides delivered as books, with six so far, and how the books are transcripts of sessions and require virtually no editing. Taking care of oneself, and balance. The demands of travel and work, how he is missing the order, schedule, and community and finding the audience more transient. How his current pace and lifestyle is not sustainable, the guides are not tired when he’s tired, how he takes on the physical abilities and issues of those he channels, and how most have a lack of awareness of divinity in so many things, despite that all is holy. His hope is that if teaching continues it will result in a realization for all that can move the process forward. Revealing as a psychic, transient vs. truth, and the physical phenomena What it’s like to be in the field, revealing himself as a psychic, and how there was not as much pushback as he expected. How Chan was inspired by his story and being a psychic is not sexy—they are simply scribes. Being invited to channel at a research symposium of scholars and experts, and how that resulted in his book being published. Selig is not a good new-ager, how there are people showing up, transient vs. truth, and who his guides are. For Chan, channeling feels like vibrations, how channeling results in physical phenomena, how it is tangible and why that helps, and the reality that it is there to be felt.Working interdimensionally, the need for dialogue and research, and the limitations of language How the point of the teaching to realize what operates in a higher way, how he thoughts when stepping into other people that he was traveling, but really he was working interdimensionally, how the coordinate is a way to channel in, how health is changed by the connection to mind body and spirit, and health care is a band aid. A hypothesis of the need for a dialogue about energy and how it affects the mind and body having informed people who understand how the psychic world works, what can be researched, that more research can move things somewhere meaningful, and how there is no need to hide. We rely on a limited language we have inherited. The limitations of language, because when something unknown appears, we ask it its name instead of trying to name it from what we know. There may be another spectrum for us to access. We want everything to match what we have known historically. The tendency to commercialize things, and how humanity itself is on the verge of a leap. How Selig believes that telepathy will be more common in future generations. And what’s next.
Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the new book, How Soon is Now? joins us this week to talk about the global ecological crisis, climate change, and how psychedelics may play a role in transforming human culture. If you do believe that we are in a time of great ecological crisis, what are you doing about it? Taking action is the most important step to creating change, but are we willing to take the sacrifices and action to create change? Daniel shares his insights about how to take action to implement change. While some of these changes may be challenging, i.e., stop traveling as much, it may be necessary to help cut carbon emissions and to slow down the global warming cycle. Or is it too late to even take action? A recent journal article, "Lifetime experience with (classic) psychedelics predicts pro-environmental behavior through an increase in nature relatedness" states: Our model controlled for experiences with other classes of psychoactive substances (cannabis, dissociatives, empathogens, popular legal drugs) as well as common personality traits that usually predict drug consumption and/or nature relatedness (openness to experience, conscientiousness, conservatism). Although correlational in nature, results suggest that lifetime experience with psychedelics in particular may indeed contribute to people’s pro-environmental behavior by changing their self-construal in terms of an incorporation of the natural world, regardless of core personality traits or general propensity to consume mind-altering substances. Thereby, the present research adds to the contemporary literature on the beneficial effects of psychedelic substance use on mental wellbeing, hinting at a novel area for future research investigating their potentially positive effects on a societal level. About How Soon is Now? Description of his book from Amazon.com We are on the brink of an ecological mega-crisis, threatening the future of life on earth, and our actions over the next few years may well determine the destiny of our descendants. Between a manifesto and a tactical plan of action, How Soon is Now? by radical futurist and philosopher Daniel Pinchbeck, outlines a vision for a mass social movement that will address this crisis. Drawing on extensive research, Daniel Pinchbeck presents a compelling argument for the need for change on a global basis. The central thesis is that humanity has unconsciously self-willed ecological catastrophe to bring about a transcendence of our current condition. We are facing an initiatory ordeal on a planetary scale. We can understand that this initiation is necessary for us to evolve from one state of being – our current level of consciousness – to the next. Overcoming outmoded ideologies, we will realize ourselves as one unified being, a planetary super-organism in a symbiotic relationship with the Earth's ecology and the entire web of life. Covering everything from energy and agriculture, to culture, politics, media and ideology, How Soon Is Now? is ultimately about the nature of the human soul and the future of our current world. Pinchbeck calls for an intentional redesign of our current systems, transforming unjust and elitist structures into participatory, democratic, and inclusive ones. His viewpoint integrates indigenous design principles and Eastern metaphysics with social ecology and radical political thought in a new synthesis. According to Levoy, passion fills many roles—it disturbs the safe and settled in your life, it is an impulse toward growth, and it is ultimately necessary for survival because your attachment to life depends on your sense of wonder and passion for vitality. Gregg Levoy is the author of Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life and This Business of Writing. “Most of us are gambling on the biggest risk of all: that one day we can buy the freedom to do what we want later in life.”Jake DuceyWhat if the path you think you're meant to be living isn't your path at all?I grappled with this mental and spiritual Rubik’s cube for decades. Only now — at 48 — do I feel like I have any insight whatsoever into this quandary. Not so with today’s guest. After a drunken car accident at age 19, Jake Ducey had an epiphany: maybe, just maybe, the traditional promise of the American Dream isn't my path to happiness and personal fulfillment. What did he do with this realization? He up and quit school, walking out on a collegiate basketball scholarship to instead light out and travel the world.Along the way, Jake chronicled his journey, distilling his insights down to a book entitled Into the Wind . Undaunted by being turned down by every publisher, he nonetheless self-published his book. And without any marketing budget or publicist, Jake still managed to self-promote Into the Wind to Amazon’s top 300 – no small accomplishment.Jake subsequently piqued the interest and mentorship of people like Chicken Soup for the Soul* author Jack Canfield and Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus* author John Gray. He became a TEDx speaker. And at 23, Jake became the youngest author to land a motivational book publishing deal at a major publishing house (Tarcher/Penguin).The Purpose Principles* – hitting book stores this week — is the product of Jake's journey to date, drawing on the stories of success, failure, and the common threads among some of today’s most successful and influential people to illuminate a plan for living your best life in a changing world – a theme not inconsistent with this show.I’ve hosted more than a few impressive young and precocious twenty-somethings on the show over the last two years because I love getting the millennial perspective on life. I like young people and as a parent of two teenage boys and two soon to be teenage girls, I truly want to understand what makes the next generation tick. What is important to millennials? What is the lens through which they perceive their environment? And how will this perception frame and shape the world they will soon inherit and steward into the future? But let’s face it – at 48 I'm likely older than Jake's father. So is there really anything (anything at all?) that this 23 year old (or any 23 year old for that matter) could possibly teach me? Maybe I'm being a snob (probably). But it's a question worth asking, isn't it? What kind of insights could such a young person possibly have that would legitimize a book of any legitimate merit or substance?I admit to being more than pleasantly surprised by J...
