There's a high in talking to someone who “gets it” spiritually. If you ever seen the lightbulb come on when you're studying the Bible with someone then you know what I'm talking about. Hebrews 6 Explained in One Take This is a challenging and encouraging chapter of Hebrews that warns about the danger of leaving God. There are many who believe one cannot “lose their salvation,” and that's really a poor way to describe it. But this chapter details the real possibility of leaving God and forfeiting blessings only enjoyed by one who's been saved. There's no earthly relationship one cannot walk away from, and the same goes for a relationship with God. To be sure, the chapter begins with a warning about not growing and maturing in godly knowledge and leaving God can be a result. Before returning to the discussion of Melchizedek, there are hopeful reminders and assurances in God's promises. Guilty as charged. I have that blank stare when you're talking to me sometimes because I'm thinking of what I'm going to say next instead of listening. So many of us are just blasting opinions left and right and now we have apps that highly encourage it! Part of the dissension in our society stems from an unwillingness to listen. Men struggle with this so much. Some admit to it and some don't. It may be an unhealthy gaze at a woman or it may be a problem with porn. Whatever the case, most men have to fight off these God-given and Satan-abused desires. It is a fight we win with God's help. But we have to constantly aware of the temptation. This is not an exhaustive look at how to effectively deal with this temptation, but a glance at the seriousness of it and at a curious verse in Job that will help. It's just a matter of perspective. If you're stuck on a physical mentality, I'll let you in on a little secret - you'll never have enough! It's always the next thing. Read Ecclesiastes for an example of that person. If you're spiritually focused, then you'll identify with this passage in Ephesians. And if you're like the rest of your brethren - always fighting for the right perspective - then you'll have a resource in these scriptures to come back to as a reminder. It's a disgusting illustration. It's a disgusting future. It's a disgusting choice. So many in the world make it sound so good to be “free” from rules and restrictions. They are slaves to sin and the devil making empty promises to those who are struggling just to escape all the corruption. This is a brutal way of looking at the choice to walk away from God. Why do we often ignore this aspect of walking with God? I do it. But the Bible is full of examples and Jesus even gives instructions. Seems like we'd pay more attention to this! When it comes to our kids' whereabouts, responsible parents are always aware. Why? They depend on us to protect them, and it's partly a natural instinct. Those same responsible Christian parents, many times, have little to NO IDEA where their kids are spiritually! Why? Likely because these parents have a weak relationship with God. Not knowing where your children are spiritually is the physical equivalent to making sure you know where they are for a total of four hours in a week. We take our kids “to church” and ease our minds. That's crazy!! Worse yet, it's highly irresponsible! Some Christian parents spend a lot more time checking on their kids' secular education than a biblical education. It's a serious, legitimate question. Don't assume I'm being sarcastic please. Break the action down to its base - getting immersed in water. And that's the root of the question. What is so objectionable about that? What's the objection to doing that as a means to gaining access to the blood of Christ? Something has to be done or accomplished for that access, otherwise everyone is already saved. Jesus did it in the beginning of His ministry. John preached and practiced a version of it for repentance. All kinds of people are doing it in the book of Acts as a means of salvation. So why all the disagreement over something so easy? If you're saying people use it to try and earn salvation, ok, there are people like that. But that's ludicrous because there is no earning anything from God. The Bible doesn't teach baptism earns anything. It's simply an act of faith as a means of accessing God's grace - opening the gift. It's doing what God wants. Think about it. It seems like blurred lines. There are much fewer laws in the this law of the Spirit that we call the New Testament. Most people will agree God was concerned with precision in carrying out His will under the old law. What about now? Does a fewer number of rules equal lesser concern with precision? I had a lot more rules at home when I was five than I did when I was 17. I guarantee my parents were still concerned about precision when they gave me a curfew. What about God? The realm of Christendom would have us believe that Jesus simply accepts anyone who claims Him with very little regard for the differing beliefs and practices.
